@AssumeItWasSomethingClever oh god. His have mainly been far better than Alan ha.

@Angelmiracle we've been discussing boy names for a while but only because he wouldn't consider the fact it might be a girl ha

melissa112 · 07/10/2018 14:37

Congratulations @WhatALearningCurve on your lovely news!!

Is anyone else 17 weeks and still not felt movement? This is my first baby and I was carrying some belly fat (and still am) so wondering if this is making it? Around 14 weeks it looked like my bump had popped out but I seem to have deflated... when I lie down my belly is almost flat but quite hard below my belly button (and a bit podgy above..). I'm quite concerned with not feeling anything and feeling like my bump came then went! I guess it was just bloating.

I know my placenta is at the back so was hoping to feel something by now. I'm 17+3 today. I heard baby's heartbeat at 15+6 at the 16 week appointment but still can't help worrying.. is it normal to not feel anything or even feel like the bump is growing at this stage? My OH says it is growing but I just can't see it Sad

melissa112 · 07/10/2018 14:37

Masking not making*

WhatALearningCurve · 07/10/2018 14:42

@melissa112 I'm 18 weeks on Tuesday and haven't felt anything yet. I was also carrying (a lot of) body fat when I found out I was pregnant so don't feel like I can see any changes apart from under my belly button where it now feels hard. Saw some friends last week and they both kept saying how much more real it seemed now that I looked to be getting a bump.

I think when you see yourself / someone else day to day it's hard to see how your body is changing but someone who doesn't see you that much sees it much more easily.

WhatALearningCurve · 07/10/2018 14:44

@melissa112 also meant to say that I hadn't seen the friends in about a month ha

melissa112 · 07/10/2018 15:13

@WhatALearningCurve glad I'm not alone in this. I think we sound similar belly wise, mines definitely harder underneath and the bottom of my belly now curves upwards instead of being wobbly 😳

That's nice that your friends noticed. I think you're right about seeing ourselves every day so it being harder to notice. I'm seeing a friend for tea on Thursday and haven't seen her in ages so hoping she says something Grin

1986mumof5 · 07/10/2018 15:45

@whatalearningcurve congratulations!! Lovely news x

Angelmiracle · 07/10/2018 16:12

@melissa112 I was 18 weeks before I felt DS but it was week 19 before I twigged on the flutters etc were baby movements. I was wearing a size 16 then.

I've felt this one since 13 weeks and really strongly towards end of this week. It is very low down which feels so weird. Like I am being properly poked! However I didn't notice anything yesterday and nothing so far today. Now I'm worried, I know baby is very small still and has maybe just changed to a different position. Always something to worry about πŸ˜₯

OP posts:
melissa112 · 07/10/2018 16:19

@Angelmiracle I'm sure as you say that baby has just moved to another position, maybe it's legs/arms are facing inwards? As part of my Google (I know I shouldnt) about not feeling anything, I came across lots of posts where they hadn't felt baby move for a few days, then all of a sudden the movements were back. Or they'd gone to the hospital and baby had tucked him/her self somewhere where it was hard to feel them with them being so small.

I'm sure baby will be back to prodding you soon Smile

SquirtlesMumAgain · 07/10/2018 16:30

I didn't feel DS until 18 weeks but have felt this one. I think it's partly knowing what it feels like. I go a couple of days not feeling anything, will worry later on but at the moment it is so little it is probably just angle & position.
DS danced/pushed on my lower abdomen a lot (thankfully not my bladder itself but that kind of area!) so hoping this one decides on somewhere else, it was damn uncomfortable at points!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 07/10/2018 16:32

Has anyone got any tips on how to prevent hunger?
I'm constantly ravenous and could eat a horse. It's also affecting my mood as I'm always hangry. πŸ˜‚
Today I've eaten a bowl of nesquik, two bacon sandwiches and whilst the roast chicken is cooking, I've just devoured half a sharing bag on Doritos. So I eat enough just can't stop the hunger!

BadBadBeans · 07/10/2018 21:12

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I think regularly eating filling snacks like peanut butter or hummous on toast, or a handful of nuts and dried fruit, are the way that I survive ravenous days best. I did go to a lovely cafe the other day that did almond butter on toast, topped with a variety sliced fruit - it was soooooo filling and delicious. Maybe try a more filling breakfast as well - I find muesli keeps me full longer than anything else, including porridge!

@WhatALearningCurve congratulations!

@melissa112 I think it's fairly normal not to feel movement as late as 20 weeks. I felt it at 18 weeks with an anterior placenta with my first, but I was very slim which I think might make it easier to feel? I think I've felt movement a couple of times with this one - I felt a sort of scrabbling last night that I'm pretty sure wasn't gas! - but I'm not 17 weeks till Wednesday and I wouldn't say I have had anything yet that I could hand-on-heart say is a definite movement. Try not to worry - it will happen!

hanny24 · 07/10/2018 21:41

Hi new to thread and mumsnet! I'm due end of March 2019 however I still have not had my scan yet but I am 14-16 weeks they think (though this might change once I have scan!)

Hi @hanny24 you're welcome to the thread! Is this your first baby?

OP posts:
wordsmithereens · 07/10/2018 22:15

@TheWanderlust, just checking in to see how you're doing? Hope you've had a peaceful weekend.

DH just felt baby for the first time! It's been prodding me for a little while now, and I have definite confirmation I'm not imagining gas to be baby, because he felt the prodding earlier when it was being active. :) Think he's quite excited, it's nice for it to be getting more real.

ladycarlotta · 07/10/2018 23:42

@assumeitwassomethingclever @whatalearningcurve haha dp keeps suggesting the names of Arsenal players. Dennis, anyone?

We watched the new episode of Doctor Who just now and baby went absolutely nuts from the opening scene onward. I've never felt it move so much; DP could feel it and I got a proper kicky jab whereas before all I've felt is kind of rolling. Whether it's delighted or affronted by a woman Doctor I can't say, but it's clearly invested.

ladycarlotta · 07/10/2018 23:44

Welcome @hanny24! Sounds like you've found out you're pregnant quite late comparatively? Congratulations - how exciting, although I hope not too much of a shock.

TheWanderlust · 08/10/2018 07:09

Thankyou @wordsmithereens finding it difficult to accept that I can't carry on as normal. I've never really had any time off before so feels quite alien to me.

Have started making myself a bit of a structure to follow for the next few weeks so that I don't end up stuck in the house for days. Found a local yoga class and have arranged a few catch ups with people I haven't seen for a while. Hopefully it will make the days go by easily.

Jenfur · 08/10/2018 07:54

@TheWanderlust that sounds like a good plan, keep busy but rested and feel better soon.

@hanny24 congratulations and welcome!

I'm at 16 +2 - the horrible point where I dont feel pregnant. I've felt flutters and swirls since about week 13 but couldn't say for sure that they were all baby, however now don't seem to feel them like I'd hope so making me nervous. Have the midwife this week so hoping they can check the heartbeat and put me a bit more at ease.
There's also a rumour going around work that the business is closing soon so I could be made redundant a couple of months before baby is here. So, bit stressful!

wordsmithereens · 08/10/2018 08:16

@thewanderlust It's hard to switch gears when that's what you're used to! Sounds like a great plan to keep some structure going though and use the opportunities the time gives you. Hope the balance works for you and you can enjoy the full-time job of growing a new life a bit more. :)

@jenfur Oh no, re: job... fingers crossed rumour mill is overactive early and they work something out. I'm sure lack of movement isn't concerning at this stage, but hope the check in is a bit more reassuring than that!

Just woke up to have a bit of a cry about "what if I won't make a good mum" etc. Glad I got it out if my system in a way... it's all part of the journey.

Shampooeeee · 08/10/2018 08:26

Welcome @hanny24, it must be strange not knowing how far along you are. I hope you find out your due date soon.
@Jenfur, that sounds stressful. Fingers crossed for your job. I struggled with not feeling pregnant a few weeks ago but the movements are getting more regular now and I’m starting to relax.
@wordsmithereens sorry to tell you this but the doubt doesn’t stop. I had a cry last night because I feel like I’m failing DS. I’m just so tired and he’s had a week of waking in the night and refusing to nap even though he needs it and is grumpy. This leads to very fraught afternoons and me feeling guilty. He slept well last night and I went to bed early (and managed not to wake at 4am) so everything seems better this morning. These hormones are a bit of a nightmare!

wordsmithereens · 08/10/2018 08:33

@Shampooeeee I'm not surprised, somehow. Think we'd all like to cut out the difficult emotions from our life, but they come part and parcel with the joys, don't they? Sorry you're having a rough time at the moment as well, I'm sure you're doing the best job you could! Hope today continues to be better.

cardboard33 · 08/10/2018 09:08

@assumeitwassomethingclever echoing the healthy food options! I have a fast metabolism in general so always have eaten little and often but since being pregnant this has been one of the most noticeable changes... I've been taking a banana to bed each night as I know I'll get hungry, and then also eating porridge and then another breakfast (something fiber) once I'm at work. Then throughout the day, so I've started having toast or something small when I get home from work to tide me over. I don't I've put on that much weight (she says) and I've been fortunate in that I haven't gone off any food or suffered with sickness but am definitely really hungry after a few hours of not eating!! It's so annoying!!

I've suddenly realised over the last week or so that I do have a bump which is quite exciting. I'm a tall size 8 and have always had a flat tummy whereas I've noticed it's got more shape to it now and husband says my breasts (now I actually have some) look great so that's lovely although struggling to work out what to wear for work. I found the maternity section in my local h&m at the weekend (after going in previously and thinking they didn't have any in store) ... It was in the separate kids shop, for anyone who might find this helpful, as given I don't have kids I'd never been in there before!! But they only had casual stuff and nothing work appropriate which was a bit rubbish. Hoping I can find something more at the weekend.

I can't remember the name of the lady who had a scare at her 20 week scan last week ... But hope you had as good a weekend as you can with your partner.
