OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
katyt1 · 24/06/2007 19:31

another reason to use diposables in the first few days at least is meconium.
i never saw any of ds's as dh did all the nappies for the first few days (must remember to polish his halo!) but it's not meant to be very nice an dbest to get rid of it, not put in washing machine!

becky, all the best for tomorrow, will be watching out for your news.

naetha - bad luck on the uti front, hope it calms down soon, i had bad utis after having ds and ouch does it hurt.

right, dinner, ironing and bed early, dh out, so tv to myself!

MamaMaiasaura · 24/06/2007 20:43

right - disposables in the early days it is.

Trying to talk to dp but he is busy rolling dice for his d&D [hmm}

toomanyshoes · 24/06/2007 20:48

evening all,
have been unwell with a middle ear infection for the last week. Incredibly dizzy which make me throw up and couldn't take anything for it becuase of the baby. Feeling much better now though so back to work tomorrow.
Midwife called this morning and asked if she could pop round and book me in this afternoon. It was the same one I saw after DD was born and she remembered all the detils of birth etc which was very nice. Was very supportive of home birth idea but also suggested I could book a private room at hospital to avoid post natal ward (that's the bit I am desperate to avoid!) so going to see how i feel nearer the time.
Just realised it's only 12 weeks until I go on mat leave!! Hurrah!
Hope you're all having lovely weekends...

gingeme · 24/06/2007 21:30

Evening ladies havnt had a proper look through the thread. Hope everyone is well. Had a lovely weekend at my parents apart from the sickness. It seemed to catch me about 2 am. Was busy chucking my guts up this am and my Mum was knocking quietly on the bathroom door to see if I was ok. Felt like I was little again.
Well Ive got my 11 week scan tomm at 12. Cant wait.

ayrshirelolo · 24/06/2007 21:40

awright everyone! Must say i've had a fab day, dh got up early to see to dd and then took her up to his mum's for breakfast so i could have a quality lie in.Bliss! then we went out to "have a look" for a bigger car - and ended up buying a second hand estate i pick up on wednesday - exciting! came home and phoned my mum to tell her and she was all"can you afford it? is it a good idea?...shouldn't you have looked around.. " negative stuff but just had roast chicken and gravy for dinner and am now eating chocolate, so DON'T CARE what my old mum thinks! more chocolate needed i think!

Naetha · 24/06/2007 22:28

Chocolate is good Ayrshire! I bought one of those huge Dairy Milk Crunchie bars today - its sat on top of the breadbin seeing how long I can leave it before I scoff the lot!

Sorry to hear you've still been feeling all sicky Gingeme and Toomanyshoes - lets hope it starts to fade soon! I'm still waiting!

Awen - loved what you were saying about your DP - mine is currently trying to reassemble his warhammer army while telling me in great detail about every single unit and their unique abilities! I guess they just don't grow up do they!

MamaMaiasaura · 24/06/2007 22:33

LOL - Naetha I thought I was alone. Ds has lord of the rings figures he paints DP off 'gaming' tomorrow night for his weekly fix. I have assured him bean will not be following in his footsteps (who am I kidding )

Gingeme - how exciting re scan. Good luck and all that Jazz - think that is 2 of you for scan tomorrow. you and Becyau

My nuchal fold is Tuesday 9.10 and goingfor3 has her scan at 8.30 (dont know if nuchal one)

I have just stropped with playing final fantasy got to a tricky bit (I swear the computer cheats )

Just eating a few ginger bics as ever so icky and then off to bed for me.

goingfor3 · 25/06/2007 08:11

Mines not a nuchal they don't do them in my area unless you pay privatley, I saw on another thread that a Hertfordshire hospital doesn't do the 12 week scan so I feel I am lucky to even get that!

ayrshirelolo - Good luck with your car. Just after christmas we told DP's parents we wanted to buy our first car and they were so negative about the cost of running it, maintaining etc so we didn't say anything about it to them again. A few weeks ago one of DP's friends took us to a few showrooms and we bought one. When we told DP's parents they were shocked we didn't ask them for help when choosing [hmmm]. I just don't think they like the fact we have our own freedom and we don't have to rely on them for lifts! When DP first took us out in the car I felt really tearful probably from my hormones but form the fact that we can go where we want with out waiting for buses and trains.

beller · 25/06/2007 09:41

morning all...

Goo dluck for all scans this week, look forward to hearing xx

Naetha- know how you feel about you nan, mine is old too,and my mums mum, will be devastated when she goes, and shes losing her marbles a bit now.

Angechica and Awen- im thinking of the cloth nappies too....still no sure, bu would like to give them a go?! will have to do some investigating.

Got my first free dental checkup this thursday!! apart from that , I have to go out with clients twice although one is to see snow patrol, so looking fwd to that, will just have to get as much sleep in the next couple of days!

Hope everyone is well xx

VP · 25/06/2007 12:19

Naetha · 25/06/2007 12:34

Hey VP - I read your other thread, and while of course you're going to worry, it seems like a light bleed is quite common during early pregnancy. I know a lot of people on this thread have experienced it in this pregnancy or previous ones with no ill effects. I was reading somewhere that one person bled constantly right up until the day she gave birth without any problems.

On a separate note, I was in the shower this morning and looked at the palms of my hands and all I could see were veins everywhere! It literally looked like my palms were spiderwebbed with small blue veins. Is this another pregnancy symptom? I know your veins are meant to expand during pregnancy, so I guess this is what it looks like when they do?

It also kinda hit me today that I'm having a major operation in less than two weeks! I'm having my gall bladder out by keyhole surgery, but I was so pre-occupied about getting to 12 weeks and everything else that I just shoved it to the back of my mind. I've got a pre-operative assessment this friday when they'll take even more blood (I'm honestly surprised I have any left!) measure my BP, do me an ECG and I'm really hoping I'll get a scan as well! I'm fairly certain I get an ultrasound to check the size and consistency (ew) of my gallbladder - maybe if I ask nicely they'll check up on bean as well!

I'm trying to avoid getting scared about the whole thing just by not thinking about it! At the end of the day, if something's going to happen, then its going to happen, and realistically there's not much I can do about it, other than hope for the best

goingfor3 · 25/06/2007 12:38

Naetha - I also have to have an operation in a couple of weeks if everything goes well. I will need to have a cervical suture. Like you I've been ignoring it!

VP · 25/06/2007 12:43

Thanks Naetha good luck for your op, keep us posted

nicky6 · 25/06/2007 13:01

dear all can i get added to the list due 28/1/08 first timer, I dont know how to do it

Well worried alot last week that i was feeling ok, not being sick etc but was made up for on sunday by being really sick and ill all day so now i wish i had enjoyed my temporary reprieve.

Well i went to my mums at the weekend and apart from crying in the morning before driving down there it was all very good indeed - i am 9 weeks and they are the only people we have told. Was so nice to tell my mum she had few tears and gave me lots of helpful tips.

Scan on 19/7 - i cannot remember a time when the days dragged by so much, good news for all those who have had scans.

nicky6 · 25/06/2007 13:05

Naetha - meant to say - i have had had the gallbladder keyhole surgery. Leaves barely any scar, you are just very sore when you come out and have to rest and take it easy - because although it doesnt look like much has happened on the outside quite a lot has happened on the inside.

They normally give you an aenemma beforehand which is not that pleasant.

but just takes a few weeks o f complete r and r, i went back to work too quick as i was in the middle of a trial and split my stitches inside - not a great plan and wouldnt recommend it!!!

beller · 25/06/2007 13:38

naetha- good luck for the scan, hope you get to see beany, kep us udated on the op, and take as much time to rest as you can x

VP- Welcome..like its ben said, a few people have had bleeds and al ben ok....i know that dosnt send much comfort, good luck for the scan tom x

Have added you in Nicky6 xx

Angechica · 25/06/2007 13:44

there is quite a lot on ebay if you search on Kushies, Bambino mio or Tots Bots. Presumably they are supposed to be unused...

Watched Homeward Bound:the Incredible Journey on telly yesterday afernoon and cried like a baby. Did anyone see it?

nicky6 · 25/06/2007 14:31

thanks beller - i couldnt quite work it out x

VP · 25/06/2007 14:49

Just thinking about my scan tomorrow (as if I have been thinking about anything else) will it be an internal probe scan or a normal scan? in my panic I didn't think to ask my midwife, can anyone out there shed some light?

goingfor3 · 25/06/2007 14:52

Before 6 weeks it will be internal after 8 weeks I think it's always external.

Housemum · 25/06/2007 15:18

Afternoon all! I can't believe how little I have done today. Rainy weather just makes me want to curl up and do nothing. Think it's also because the scan is on Thursday - I have been looking forward to this date for so long, and now keep wondering you know, is all Ok etc? Pregnancy paranoia time I guess! Have only just managed to wash up this morning, so much for the grand plan of sorting the toy mountain!

On less self-pitying note, felt really chuffed yesterday as DD1 and I did Race for Life - I deliberately chose to walk not run, as I am not super-fit and didn't want to chance anything, also it was so muddy underfoot I didn't want to risk falling - but we did it in 45 minutes which I thought was pretty good for untrained, unfit walkers!

Naetha · 25/06/2007 15:24

Argh! Just rung up the hospital to make sure they knew I was pregnant (felt like the 1 hour they'd allotted might not be enough given I'm pregnant) and it turns out that neither the pre-assessment nurse NOR the anaesthetist know I'm pregnant!!!!!!

I'd wail about my waste of taxpayers money and the ineptitudes of the NHS but its being done by BUPA!!!!

It seems like there will be 3 options:

  1. It will go ahead as planned, as normal.

  2. The general anaesthetic will be changed to local and heavy sedation (not something I'd particularly look forwards to, but if its better for bean then its better that way).

  3. The op doesn't happen at all, by week 25ish I'll probably be in constant pain, will have to watch what I eat very very carefully (minimum fat) and will have to have the operation after giving birth and breastfeeding etc etc!

Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, just needed to get that out of my system!

Hi everyone. Ds party went well on saturday. All had a good time - including the adults as mil made food for them and it was lush Haven't posted since as been so lethargic and feeling rough. Did absolutely nothing yesterday and followed suit today. Supposed to be getting ready for holiday but I've had a headache most of the day.
Good luck with your scan today gingeme
Naetha - good luck with the op. Ditto Goingfor3

gingeme · 25/06/2007 15:31

Well done Housemum amd Mr Housemum.
Good luck ladies having ops. Im sure all will be well.
Well had my scan at 12 today but they couldnt do the nuchal or measurements as beany is too small. So they have told me I have to go back on the 6th to have a second scan. We saw and heard the heart beat though and saw a tiny hand which was fab.
Dont mind having a second scan. I thought it was a little early as all the other scans Ive had have been between 12-14 weeks and you see everything on them. Oh well seen the tiny being now

plummymummy · 25/06/2007 15:36

Glad the baby is ok gingeme. I think between 11 and 13 weeks there is quite a lot of growth so in a way I don't understand why they do them at 11 weeks.
