mummybear43 · 23/06/2007 08:23

Hi all
I am from the North West in the UK. I amn having my 8th child and am due on 7th Jan. I have been reading your posts for some time and am awaiting any appointment at all....it seems no one wants to care for me as I am too complicated. I had my last son ten years ago at 25 weeks via emergency caesarean and his brother at 29 weeks 14 weeks ago.

looking forward to getting to know you all

katyt1 · 23/06/2007 08:56

lots of good names being mentioned. it's awkward when you have an 'odd' surname that you have to think about too.
i just have a long surname so have to keep first names short, hence tom for ds.
still happy with mary for a girl, but totally stuck on boys names. tho ryan is a poss.
also i have this thing that i want everyone to have different initials, so no, j, k or t. plus we have 2 cats, boris and barney so b is out too.
other possibles at the mo are
oscar
leo
luke
hamish (dh's fave )

efmc - stay here, you're settled in and comfy aren't you?

welcome ayrshirelolo

and mummybear43, blimey you do sound like an ineteresting medical case, in a nice way
8th child, wow wow wow!
so how old are they all, and was it only the last 2 that were early?

got my scan date through for 17th july but dh can't make that time, boo hiss, so do i go on my own? i don't mind but he's insistent that he must be there in case of bad news... anyone done theirs on their own???

right, dh having a ds day, i'm meant to be having a 'day off' we'll see how that works, good so far

keep well all

mummybear43 · 23/06/2007 09:18

Oops, I am not at all sure where I should be posting to introduce myself but I have just noticed that I have made my first mistake already and said that I also had a son 14 weeks ago....that was meant to be years of course! pregnancy definately does strange things to my brain!

Please move my posts to the appropriate place if it is wrong and apologies for mistakes until I learn the rules.

MamaMaiasaura · 23/06/2007 12:30

spud01 thanks for updating the list.

Has anyone heard from KMT since she first posted? hope all is well

Am starting to get very nervous about scan on Tuesday. DP and ds are coming (ds because is 9.10 and didnt have anyone to drop him off at school.) ds is very excited but I am now worrying. Excited I am 12 weeks today but had horrid dream a few days ago and also aware that things dont always go how we would hope. Sorry to bring thread down.

goingfor3 · 23/06/2007 18:50

awen - I'm having my scan on tuesday, at 8.30! I'm also feeling anxious about it. I'm sure many people feel like that too.

Angechica · 23/06/2007 19:09

good luck with your scans!

i 'm on here pondering about cloth nappies but all the threads on subject are v mysterious - like they're written in another language! Any already-mums have any recommendations?

MamaMaiasaura · 23/06/2007 21:14

angechic - we want to try those too.

goingfor3 - good luck for tomorrow xx hopefully we will get to see little fingers and toes and everything.

ayrshirelolo · 23/06/2007 22:43

spud01 - thanks for adding me to list, it's nice to be on one! good luck with scans next week eveyone, i got my appointment in the post today and it's not till 25th July (WAIL!!)! I think it's natural to worry, though, although difficult to be rational when you get up for the 2am pee and can't get back to sleep!
Also got interested in concept of cloth nappies for dd, but found the whole thing difficult to understand and wimped out, sorry! think you can buy a sample to try though.Have to confess i never got round to it and she's just turned 1.

Housemum · 24/06/2007 09:12

Awen, Angechia - try :
the nappy lady

Twinkle

Kittykins

for cloth nappies. I think it's the Nappy Lady site that has advice re what would suit you best (eg do you have a tumble dryer or not, how often do you do the washing etc) I used some with DD2 and chose Tots Bots. Great, no leaks, but v big so didn't work with trousers unless you bought them from somewhere like cut4cloth (just as well she's a girl!) and they took forever to dry without a tumble dryer. Will try some different ones next time but don't know which yet.

katyt1 · 24/06/2007 09:42

i went for fuzzi bunz with ds, we used them 100% for a while, then gradually changed to about 50% of the time. we try and balance eco-thoughts with modern life. and disposables are just easier, last longer, etc.
but def try some, prob best to try a few brands tho we chose and stuck with one.
i love them as they come in loads of cool colours and look good without shorts/trousers on top, would be fab for a girl under dresses.
sure other pocket style ones are good too.
(one drawback of fuzzi bunz is they are american so tad expensive and harder to get hold of, but resale value on ebay is near full price...)
hth.

dh taken ds off for long walk so i am meant to be working here, better get on....

Naetha · 24/06/2007 09:48

Welcome Ayrshire and Mummybear Efmc - there's no reason why you can't stay on both threads, if you can keep up!

My friend was saying that Kittykins do a mix-pack of a variety of different types of nappies and you can try them all then stick with the ones you like best. Her strongest bit of advice with nappies though was not to bother with cloth nappies until at least 6 weeks, ideally later!

I think I'm starting to come out of the whole morning sickness / exhaustion thing - in the last week I've been staying awake until 10:30 or later (used to be about 8:30!) despite driving 600 miles over the last two days. I was very naughty and had a whopper meal at burger king yesterday though - and very nice it was too! Did feel naughty!

Was lovely to see my gran and my old schoolfriends though. I get on very well with my gran, but it was a bit of a sobering meet - she is 93 now, not in the best of health, and was very down about never being able to meet the baby etc, despite any protestations... If she was to go in the next few months I don't think it would be a bad thing - she's had a wonderful life, and in the last two years has lost her sight and hearing and gets very frustrated. I suppose I'm just steeling myself for bad news I guess...

Sorry I didn't mean to bring the thread down! My schoolfriends were great - they coo'd over me and everything, it was great!

goingfor3 · 24/06/2007 10:10

I bought some cloth nappies from TK Maxx yesterday. I bought six cotton bottoms prefolds and 2 wraps for £12 which is a bargin. I only need one more wrap as a friend gave me 11 small motherease sandies and a wrap. I have everything for 12 months to potty training too as I used them on DD2, though she potty rained at around 18 months so I didn't ever need large sizes. Different people like different nappies but I found prefolds really good and cheap too. I liked Motherease one size but we live in a hard water area and they go crunchy really quickley.

MamaMaiasaura · 24/06/2007 11:52

Thanks for the links for cloth nappies Housemum

Naetha - Interesting point about using them after 6 weeks, is it because so tired/lots to do/ routine not established?

We live in a hard water area too so have to consider that, and no tumble dryer. Think I will get a sample set to start me off. I think I will have a few disposables for days out etc till I get the hang of reusables.

Am sat in bed after a lovely shower and hairwash. Had toast, orange and tea stomach just starting to feel queasy. Had very very naughty graphic dreams last night twas with another man too

Housemum · 24/06/2007 13:00

Katyt1 - just to let you knwo you can't sell nappies on eBay anymore - they come in the pervert category! No undergarments can be sold - which includes nappies! I only found out because I sold some last year then tried to sell this year and couldn't. Some of the nappy websites do have facilities to sell, and of course there's always the For Sale on MN, or the NCT sales.

hadn't thought of looking in TK Maxx - I'll see if ours has any - good idea.

Know what you mean about graphic dreams - I shouldn't have been watching Dr Who just befoer bedtime - mmmmm...

MamaMaiasaura · 24/06/2007 13:11

mmm - Jack Harkness, Dr Who & the Master ...

katyt1 · 24/06/2007 13:12

i didn't know that housemum, that's PC gone mad surely?!?!?
i wasn't planning on selling ours anyway as hoping for more children as well as ds & this bump. think they will be a bit well used by the time we're finished with them
still, the world's going mad!

and i still have lots of work to do, better check ds is actually asleep first tho..

katyt1 · 24/06/2007 13:15

i dreamt about going to a uni reunion that wasn't my uni, but wearing my uni t-shirt...hardly sexual...boo hiss!

BeckyAu · 24/06/2007 14:45

Hi everyone.... Good grief I'm a bag of nerves today. Have scan tomorrow at 2pm and am so wound up about it I have been snapping at DH and bursting into tears when the computer wouldn't do what i wanted it to do and generally feel so on edge. I know we're all feeing the same which is good as I know I'm not going mad (well no more than usual ) and I just can't wait til tomorrow. I'm going to try to get a second viewing on a house in the morning so there's just so much to think about... that and lots of work deadlines too. Argh! Sorry! Just needed to say all that. I don't mean to sound all moany as I'm not really. I just have a very busy head with lots going on! I hope you're all having a lovely weekend xx

MamaMaiasaura · 24/06/2007 15:04

beckyau ((hugs)) totally understand. Am sure everything will be fine tho xx

BeckyAu · 24/06/2007 15:28

Thanks Awen xx

Naetha · 24/06/2007 16:27

Don't worry about daft arguments BeckyAu - its all the fault of the hormones! Me and DH had a massive argument this morning about a computer game of all things!

Awen - the reason my friend didn't recommend cloth nappies in the first 6 weeks was not only because you've got so much else to think about, but also because the whole stay-dry technology in disposables is a lot better than in cloth nappies, and it means you and the baby are more likely to get a bit of sleep, rather than just going off to sleep, having a wee and waking up because the nappy is sodden.

I'm so not looking forwards to work tomorrow, especially as its coming up to month end and there'll be comments about how much time I haven't been spending working!

Also my bladder is still being a bit narky - I don't know if its the UTI not fully cured, or whether the UTI and/or position of bean is aggravating my existing bladder condition (insterstitial / allergic cystitis) but either way its rather painful unless I drink non-stop, and that makes me feel sick!

fruitful · 24/06/2007 19:27

Blimey this thread moves fast.

I'm sick, knackered and we've got the builders coming tomorrow to hack out an old fireplace. Dh is taking the car for its MOT/service so I will be car-less and trying to keep ds out of the way of all the lovely interesting toolkits. Joy

The other reason for not doing cloth nappies for the first few weeks is, once you start using them, you have to start washing them. And 3 extra loads of laundry a week is a big deal in the early days! Plus they tend to look like sumo-wrestlers to start with.
