For those who aren't having an appt between 16 and 28 weeks - how are you getting your matb1 for employers? That's what my midwife said the 25w appt was for?

Lookingforadvice123 · 03/09/2018 08:31

dragonflew you can just ask your surgery reception for the MatB1, my midwife didn't have any in my last pregnancy so I had to just get it from the surgery another time anyway.

Since2016 · 03/09/2018 08:44

No new pram here - DC2. Have travel system and buggy so hoping by Jan (DD will be 3) we won’t need it much and I’ll use a sling loads anyway. Not Getting a double!! Going to get everything out of loft / back of cupboards at Christmas. We vac sealed everything as DH is paranoid about damp!

I’m not having my MW appt till 19 weeks as I think she’s away and I got moved forward a week at my 12 w scan. We have appts every 3 weeks with the MW after 16w I think - apparently it’s new guidelines at my trust. But I obviously have umpteen other appts anyway! Scan today!

@alicerr I wouldn’t worry - I’m regularly bumped and poked by my toddler and its all fine!

Baby160P · 03/09/2018 08:45

@AliceRR I wouldn't worry. Babies are pretty strong and well protected in there.

I was so worried after my car accident with the seatbelt. (Being hit at 50mph whilst I was standstill in traffic was a lot of impact) but all was fine at the scan xx

Surprisedmom · 03/09/2018 08:45

Is anyone else suffering with rhinitis?

Every morning for the past week i’ve woken up really blocked up with a terrible headache because of my sinuses. I asked the midwife if I could use vicks and she said ask a pharmacist, so I asked my friend who is one and she said not. Do any of you know of any remedies that are natural/safe in pregnancy?

DragonFlew · 03/09/2018 08:55

@Lookingforadvice123 doesn't the midwife have to sign it though?
I wondered not to have the appt to be honest so that sounds ideal!

hayley013 · 03/09/2018 10:04

I got one of these at my booking in appointment, so I'll be seen at 25 weeks too, I don't think it makes a diff if it's your first or subsequent xx

maxiflump1 · 03/09/2018 10:23

@DragonFlew my mw said if I need my matb1 form before the appointment them just to ring and leave a message and they'll do one and leave it in reception to collect.

@AliceRR I wouldn't worry that much. My DS is constantly kicking and elbowing me in the bump but I think bubs is very well protected in there.

Thanks ladies. Yes I think it’s probably ok but could not help but worry and be annoyed at myself for being so clumsy!

@Baby160P I remember that, must have been so worrying.

I did some anxious googling yesterday and the majority of people were talking about having been hit, jumped on, opening doors on bumps and even having car accidents later or and falling etc and it seems baby was fine in most cases.

@Surprisedmom Yes I have that. These days I don’t know where I’ve got a cold, hay fever or pregnancy related rhinitis! Last night in bed one nostril felt completely blocked and it was uncomfortable. I have felt tightness in chess since last night too.

I have some Olbas oil bubble bath which I’ve been breathing in or using in the shower (we don’t have a bath) and that seems to be ok. Haven’t checked whether you can use proper olbas oil during pregnancy.

I also had waxy ears for about 10 week’s but had Microsuction on Saturday and that helped a lot.

lanalawr · 03/09/2018 12:49

Thanks @DragonFlew, @Yakadee and @maxiflump1 that makes me feel a bit better. @Lookingforadvice123 ah we're at different surgeries then. I assumed you'd be at Rhiwbina clinic for midwife appointments because I remembered you said you lived nearby. I got the sheet but I remember being told there was a typo and that one of the appointments listed for first time mums only they actually saw everyone anyway. I just can't remember which one that was.

@DragonFlew last time the midwife filled in my MATB1 and left it at the reception desk for me to pick up.

lanalawr · 03/09/2018 12:50

What is going on with my app!?! I keep getting random bold bits. Sorry everyone.

@AliceRR I wouldn't worry too much about that. It's bigger accidents that would be more concerning. My dd likes to sit on mine Hmm

Baby160P · 03/09/2018 13:36

@Surprisedmom I do but I read vicks the rub is fine. Now I'm questioning it 😩

Baby160P · 03/09/2018 13:41

@Surprisedmom called doctor, vicks is fine but just not on your chest when you breast feed.

Surprisedmom · 03/09/2018 13:55

@AliceRR Omg yes to the waxy ears! I genuinely thought that was just a made up symptom in my head but the have been annoyingly waxy.

@baby160p I will call my doctor once they’re done transferring me over to the new surgery. I read online that vicks was fine but my friend said it wasn’t explicitly banned for pregnancy but as it wasn’t advised as safe either she’d steer clear. I’ve ordered a dehumidifier in the hope that will work.

AliceRR · 03/09/2018 14:01

@suprisedmom olive oil helps. I couldn’t take it in first tri as it made me feel sick but I left it weeks and the right ear blocked up which is why I went for Microsuction. I could have had them syringed but they wanted me to use oil for 5 days which I wasn’t willing to do!

Yakadee · 03/09/2018 14:35

I'm getting a cold too. Can't believe it, I've had impetigo, a sickness bug and now this! I'm gutted x

kjonesey2 · 03/09/2018 15:47

I'm trying to decide what to do about buggy - DS will be 3 so I could just use a sling but wondering what happens when new kiddo is a bit heavier but DS is still too slow/lazy to walk!

AliceRR · 03/09/2018 15:58

I am on my second or third cold in about 5 weeks or it could be one or two long ones! They do seem to hit harder while preggers and have left me feeling wiped out...

AliceRR · 03/09/2018 16:09

@lanalawr Thank you. The unanimous response I’m getting is that it’s probably fine. I even read that you would have to sustain the kind of injuries that would cause internal damage to organs for it to harm baby, which kind of makes sense, but I appreciate the reassurance (I need it!!)

I am SO irritable too. Not sure if it’s hormones or the fact I feel a bit tired and under the weather but I literally can barely have a conversation with anyone other than a couple of people I can tolerate today!!

Since2016 · 03/09/2018 17:00

Just had scan - cervical length but she also did a quick check of baby. All fine! Heartbeat lovely and strong - gorgeous noise and cervix still long so low risk. Another scan at 22 weeks!

Excited to find out what baby is now!

Baby160P · 03/09/2018 17:08

@Since2016 why do you have a cervical Length scan? What info am I missing in my baby brain?

Notquiteagandt · 03/09/2018 17:50

@Baby160P

They measure it as standard when you have a scan. They might not make point of it but they will do it. My sonogrammer only mentioned it as she could see my bladder was bursting. So said "just need quick cervix measurement and im done"

Since2016 · 03/09/2018 17:55

@notquiteagandt are you sure? This was specifically an internal scan to measure length. I then had an abdominal scan to check baby.

@baby160p I had laser treatment on my cervix a few years ago so they check cervix length - did last time too. It’s just to check it’s not ‘incompetent’ as it can be a risk for pre term delivery and may require stitching. I’m low risk but they’ll still monitor - just another affliction!!

Yakadee · 03/09/2018 18:17

I don't remember anything like that but sonographer commented my ovaries being healthy? Don't remember that with my first but it's probably just because he mentioned it this time x

Notquiteagandt · 03/09/2018 18:20

@Since2016 Yes. Because i ashume there where no issues or anything as theres nothing in my notes and they literally just brushed over it barely looking.

Can only ashume they look to check its closed as should be then check doesnt look really short at quick glance before if neccessary looking further.

I only remember as she pressed quite a bit lower down and I was nervous about my bladder being so full.
