I work in finance and am currently planning on staying until we've closed year end, which will be around 18th Jan if this year runs to the same schedule as last year. That puts me at 38+2, as due date is 6th Feb - I know that's cutting it rather close, especially since it's my first, but I'd prefer to keep working as long as I can!

AutumnLee12 · 15/09/2018 14:36

In terms of maternity leave I was planning to work until the end of January (I'm due feb 14th) but I don't know if this is too ambitious! My actual job is stressful although since being pregnant, I'm in a non-operational role mainly at a desk so I want to work as long as possible!

Lookingforadvice123 · 15/09/2018 14:48

Jesscaar i think when it's your first it's safer to work as long as possible so I wouldn't worry! First babies are often late, my DS came a week early but I had a sweep. I know so many people who finished at 37 weeks and then the baby was 2 weeks overdue, so if you're feeling well it's totally sensible to go closer to the date. I wouldn't finish before 37 weeks unless I was unwell/struggling, as I'd rather have more time after the baby's born. My job is in an office though, obviously very different if you have a more physical / stressful job!

I’m due 10 Feb and was thinking of end of Jab but it’s my first pregnancy so it’s hard to know what to expect when I’m so heavily pregnant. I might need to stop working earlier. I do have about 4 week’s hol to use before then so could go earlier. Need to solve check what the position is re carrying over (HR rep told me any hol but used is automatically carried over but mat policy says max 5 days can be carried over) as I would prefer to have more time with the baby but will potentially need to use 3 week’s hol before baby arrives...

Yakadee · 15/09/2018 15:00

I'm due 3rd Feb however I'm hoping I'll have a section so will most likely be the week or so before that they do it.

I'm hoping to work right up but obviously will see when we get a bit nearer the time.

Hoping to not go back to work until the following Jan 🤞 xx

emalady · 15/09/2018 15:31

Hi again all, seem to have taken a couple of weeks off Mumsnet (not really deliberate but life got in the way), can't believe how much I have missed!

I had a letter from work confirming my request for mat leave and the pay levels - I was under the impression from my contract I would be getting SMP only but apparently that is just for the other staff in the business and I am part of the group that gets a better deal - very grateful as I am the main earner and I was a bit worried. I am due 6/2/19 and have said I will work the first 3 weeks of the year, annual leave 2 weeks and start my mat leave 2 days before my due date, might be a bit mad but I want as much time as possible after. Will have annual leave again for December and go back Jan 2020. Seems like a long time of planning!

We have our 20 week scan on Thursday - any scan buddies out there?

May be back on here as I have been putting off my tax return, still need to finish it but finding all sorts of distractions!!

Hope everyone is ok, I will try and catch up over the next couple of days.

Wames90 · 15/09/2018 20:36

@emalady I have my scan on Thursday too, I’ll be 21 weeks on my scan date and I can’t wait to see the baby again! Are you going to find out what you’re having or are you keeping it as a surprise? I hope everything goes well with your scan!

Yakadee · 15/09/2018 20:59

Bit of a personal one (and hopefully nobody is eating their tea!) but has anyone noticed a stronger feminine odor? Not something I've ever had before being pregs however defo more noticeable. I'm not concerned as not sore etc but how do I get rid?

I obviously wash regularly and wear pads (have done since having my son - maybe just habit?) and my husband assures me he can't smell anything at all. But, can't shake that feeling of being unclean (Even though I'm not!).

Anyone in the same boat / offer any help? 😩

clairehr · 15/09/2018 21:15

@Yakadee Yes!!!!! It really frustrates me cos I can't seem to get rid of it, but like you my other half is adamant that he can't smell it. Think it's normal, extra discharge too to help keep infection out etc. And don't know if part of it is our bloodhound noses making it seem worse than it actually is!

Regarding maternity leave. I plan on taking some annual leave from 28th Jan to due date (12th Feb), then 9 months off, couple of weeks unpaid mat leave, rest of annual leave and back to work in January 2020.

Yakadee · 15/09/2018 21:18

@clairehr - thank god it's not just me! This is one symptom I don't think I'll get used too! I was wondering if there's something out there to help you feel cleaner but then thought maybe it would just mess with things? X

powkin · 15/09/2018 22:46

Although I don’t want to enter the discharge/odour = “unclean” debate, as our bodies are doing their natural thing and self cleaning themselves, I did buy canesten soothing wash gel for when I had super nasty thrush and it is really nice and extremely gentle, so if you do feel the urge to wash I would recommend that. I imagine it would be good for washing men’s bits as well!

lanalawr · 15/09/2018 23:51

I'm planning to finish work at the end of Jan when I'll be 39 weeks (although because I'm part time I'll rig it so my mat leave actually starts when I'm 39+4 just thanks to my working/non-working days). I finished at 38 weeks with dd and she was born at 41 weeks. I went a bit crackers and grumpy waiting for those three weeks.

twiglet · 16/09/2018 02:02

Does anyone else's feet swell already? Not sure if it's because we are still away and the heat it's been 31 every day or if its going to be the same when I get back but I have proper cankles (calf running into ankles).
I got quite upset this evening have quite a few angry mossie bites brought benedryl with us but found I can't take it so currently lying in a very warm room very itchy! Can't wait to get back to cooler Scotland!

emalady · 16/09/2018 07:43

@Wames90 we had a harmony test so I already know we are expecting a girl. Initially I wasn't going to find out but DH really wanted to know and I think it's helped it feel more real to me. Good luck with your scan. Are you going to find out the sex?

@yakadee I know what you mean, I've been aware of more smell and a change since pretty early on but I'm more aware of it now. I would be careful trying to get rid of it, you don't want to get BV if you can avoid it.

FrowningFlamingo · 16/09/2018 08:03

@twiglet is that one cetirizine? I think it is if it's the once daily one. I was stung by a hornet and checked with a couple of friends who are obstetricians and they all said it was ok to take. There's a great website - BUMPS (best use of medicines in pregnancy) which explains about most medicines. For this one it's basically assumed to be safe it's just not been especially well tested. My friends told me they use it lots in pregnancy in America and it's considered safe there. I decided to take it as the stings were really painful but obviously it's a personal choice!

Yakadee · 16/09/2018 08:05

Thanks guys. I thought it might mess with your body if you do too much so I'll just ride it out (and hold my nose! 😷) x

FrowningFlamingo · 16/09/2018 08:05

I'm planning to try and stay in work as late as possible, ideally to 38 weeks as will be having a section at 39 and would like to have a week to get settled beforehand but no longer as I think I'll get cabin fever at home!
My lovely bosses have agreed I can carry over my annual leave and use it to to work only two days a week from Christmas which should make it do-able I hope.
First pregnancy and it's so hard to make these kind of decisions as I have no idea how I'll be feeling!

Foxherts · 16/09/2018 08:09

Hi everyone!

I’m due 20th Feb, this is my 2nd - I have a three year old son :)

Yakadee · 16/09/2018 08:15

Also 20 weeks today - woop.

This was my random size comparison this week - made me chuckle!

AliceRR · 16/09/2018 08:44

@twiglet I have noticed my feet swelling a bit especially if I’ve been on my feet a lot or when I was wearing lace up shoes but I feel like I’d have to look at them to notice IYKWIM

Also getting restless legs when in bed sometimes

twiglet · 16/09/2018 08:45

@FrowningFlamingo it's the 15 minute acting one which active ingredient is Acrivastine. NHS said not recommended I have them for epipens and an allergic reaction so didn't think to check if I could have them. We fly back this afternoon though so can try to get the other one.

Since2016 · 16/09/2018 08:49

I had hideous swelling with DD. Like all over - couldn’t bend my knees. It started earlier this time - by the end of the day by legs and ankles are puffy. Keep them elevated through the day if possible. Mine were so bad they affected my walking at the end - partly why I finished early!

Lulabell1 · 16/09/2018 10:55

Big difference in everyones maternity dates...im a manager in a hair salon i have 12 days off over Xmas and go back on the 6th Jan then going to take maternity on 20th which will make me 36weeks. My job is busy and very stressfull but im thinking that time over xmas will prepare me for the last 2 weeks before leaving plus we are norm very dead in Jan! Means i get more time the other side. I had DD at 36weeks exactly and im hoping it not the case this timeGrin

Lulabell1 · 16/09/2018 11:05

Currently sitting in A&E as I got a bleach burn at work on my hand and ive woke up its all swollen and bubbly the pain is shooting up my arm. Feel like ive had the worst luck in this pregnancy

Notquiteagandt · 16/09/2018 11:12

So I put in for my maternity excemption about 2 weeks ago.

How long did everyones take to come?

I need to desperately go the dentist. Hyoeremesis is wrecking my poor teeth Sad never gone nhs dentist before but cant afford not to currently.

Does anyone know what treatment is covered with excemption card?

Thanks ladies Grin
