Oh no Lulu hope you are seen soon!

@notquiteagandt not sure I think it’s quite fast though. You may be able to claim it back? Dental care wise - everything that’s not cosmetic. You will find they are suddenly more circumspect though - imagine! If you can find a good dentist there’s no difference between private and nhs excl. sedation and white fillings ime.

Maternity leave ime just depends on how you’re managing physically. I had hideous insomnia, swelling and an awful commute and a v stressful job last time. This time I have the same commute but far less stress and a 4 day week BUT have a toddler at home and all the physical things with this pregnancy are a lot earlier than last time! Will just have to see how I am at Christmas!

Baby160P · 16/09/2018 11:27

@Notquiteagandt mine didn't even ask for my exemp card when I went I guess it depends how strict they are.
I'd say mine to about 2 weeks to come through.
Again I'm sure everywhere is different but I had a filling removed and put back in and my dentist put a white filling back in as he said I don't have to pay anyway!

UndercoverLauren · 16/09/2018 12:47

@Notquiteagandt maybe you could bring your maternity notes along as proof? I'm sure they double check these things anyway.

lanalawr · 16/09/2018 13:21

@Notquiteagandt do you need a card? I just told my dentist when I went in August and they didn't ask for proof and didn't charge me. Not sure if it's different as I'm already an NHS patient there. Where do you get a card from anyway? I don't remember having one with dd, just the MATB1 from 25 weeks.

Notquiteagandt · 16/09/2018 13:27

@lanalawr I filled in a fw8 form at the drs to get free perscriptions they said id be sent a card in the post. Which was my maternity exsemption certificate.

Only did it for the dentist. So we shall see.

@Since2016 yeah one bonus is fillings need to be white during pregnancy so thats one bonus I guess!!

DragonFlew · 16/09/2018 13:30

You don't NEED the card. You just tell them and they tick the box - it then gets checked on the Nhs database.
So of you lied and said you were exempt when you're not really they do find out and you do get charged + a £100 fine!
So if your card hasn't come.through yet or you forget it at an appointment it is not a problem just let them know you're exempt for maternity.

Notquiteagandt · 16/09/2018 13:38

Good to know. Thanks @DragonFlew time to find a nhs dentist then and get it sorted. And be brave eeeek.

Fredthespider · 16/09/2018 14:38

My card didn't take too long to come through, my midwife filled in the form for me and got me to sign it at my booking appointment. She even sent it off for me! You can get an appointment and then claim back if you need to so don't delay getting seen. I went to see mine last week because I'm clenching my jaw and it's really aching now, she said she wouldn't make me a mouth guard whilst I was pregnant though Hmm

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 16/09/2018 15:38

When I was pregnant last time I needed a filling, and they wouldn’t do a white one on the NHS, so unless the rules have changed or you get a nice dentist... it’ll be a metal filling.

Im sure you don’t actually need the exemption card at the time of the appointment, the fact you’ve applied is enough.

Surprisedmom · 16/09/2018 17:02

@twiglet when I spent a month in Uganda, they told me you can stop the itching of mozzie bites by putting the back of a hot spoon on them. It really does work and involves no drugs. Just put a spoon in a cup of hot water to heat it up then hold it on the bite (obviously not if it’s scolding you though).

Surprisedmom · 16/09/2018 17:03

I found out why the spoon trick works:

GeriatricShmeriatric · 16/09/2018 17:07

Am pretty sure the general guidance is not to have amalgam fillings while pregnant because of the risk of the mercury. I've even read somewhere that the Dept. of Health advises against it so surely the NHS must provide alternatives for pregnant women?
I've got to book dentist this week too - I haven't been for years & years and dreading what I might need to have done!

emalady · 16/09/2018 17:09

I have my dentist check up tomorrow. Its private though so if I need anything will have to find an NHS one. XxX

Lulabell1 · 16/09/2018 17:50

Its so bad but I literally didnt go dentist for 8 years and then when i as pregnant with DD i did because it was free i thought there would be millions wrong and not one thing was. I was part time after DD so i carried on getting the exemption as i claimed working tax credits. Full time now so i no doubt will have a big dentist bill after this pregnancy my luck

Yakadee · 16/09/2018 18:07

I actually sent my form off on 23/07 and it never came! I called and it had somehow got lost? I sent it off again last Friday and it came yesterday. I did have to get a prescription too but I'll be able to get a refund.

Don't think I'm due a dentist appointment for a while but will be getting a new gum shield when I do (grind my teeth) - they're about £200. (I really do need one) x

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 16/09/2018 18:25

I got my mouth guard free due to exemption... I grind my teeth too, to the point where my jaw locked up and I couldn’t eat or anything.. I think I’m about due another one too.

The amalgam filling I had was just after pregnancy I think... maybe that was a reason? I’m sure they noted that I needed one while I was pregnant, but actually carried out the work afterwards.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 16/09/2018 18:28

This just says amalgam fillings shouldn’t be removed during pregnancy...

GeriatricShmeriatric · 16/09/2018 18:42

They need to update this I think. New EU regulations from July this year says no use of amalgam for kids under 15 & pregnant & breastfeeding women. I personally wouldn't have them pregnant or not but that's another matter.

twiglet · 16/09/2018 19:07

@Surprisedmom thanks for the tip it's worked a treat so much relief!

lanalawr · 16/09/2018 19:29

Thanks everyone. Maybe that's part of the difference. We have free prescriptions in Wales for everyone anyway so wouldn't need an exemption card for that. I'd never heard of them before.

twinklingelephant · 16/09/2018 19:55

Evening all, I'm not sure if I have commented on a previous thread or not, if I did it would have been weeks and weeks ago! I'm not good at keeping up with these things. Anyway, I'm 18 weeks and finally accepting that maybe I will be getting a baby at the end of this pregnancy! (Had 2 miscarriages in the last year and a bit). 2 weeks until my next scan and I can find out what we are having - my 5 year old and my husband would both quite like to know and they've talked me in to it as well now. Getting impatient for it!
Is there an Fb page for this thread? Is anyone thinking of doing one? The FB group from having my son in May 13 is still so active and we are all really good friends - many in real life now too!

Surprisedmom · 16/09/2018 20:03

@twiglet very glad you got some relief. Mozzie bites are awful!

@twinklingelephant welcome! There is a Facebook group but I can’t remember who you have to message to join it - hopefully someone else on here can let you know.

FrowningFlamingo · 16/09/2018 20:09

Hi, I can add you to the Facebook group if you PM me the email that is linked to your Facebook. The invite shows up in your email not through your Facebook so keep an eye out for it :)

sickmumma · 16/09/2018 20:15

I would also be interested in joining the Facebook group now we've finally gone public!

I also need to go to the dentist, I had to cancel an appointment when I first was pregnant as I was so ill, I am dreading what the sickness has done to my teeth, they always go downhill with each pregnancy 😩

On a plus note I felt baby move today! I am only 16 weeks but the kick was so clear, def more than a flutter. I was leaning forward in my seat kind of squashing my tummy I guess so perhaps that is why it was so prominent!

Yakadee · 16/09/2018 20:43

I have my 20 week scan on Tues - I cannot wait. Fingers crossed for a lovely healthy bean x
