@Yakadee No, I drink a few a week. Before I got pregnant I was drinking a few a day and then massively went off them for the first 12ish weeks. Went on holiday a few weeks ago and really craved them again. I now alternate between caffeine free and Coke Zero a few times a week now.

Yakadee · 13/09/2018 10:32

So glad you all agree! I'll keep having a few here and there. My diet in general could be better. I'm still eating veg etc but think I need a bit of a kick!

@Since2016 - oh no! Awful xx

Notquiteagandt · 13/09/2018 11:05

@Yakadee when my hyperemesis was at its worse every dr i saw said to drink full fat coke. So im guessing if its that bad they wouldnt advice it. 🤷‍♀️ So I would go for it.

Everything in moderation eating or drinking anything is better than nothing.

Notquiteagandt · 13/09/2018 11:08

@Since2016 or anyone else still super vommy. I still carry around sick bags with me when im out the house. I got these of amazon can really reccomend them.like the ones you get on planes or boats so really water tight.

Baby160P · 13/09/2018 11:16

I used to drink loads of fizzy drinks, really bad. I cut it completely out for the caffeine but also because of the aspartame. Although I've read it's fine in moderation I know how many things have aspartame in them so I felt the need to cut it out.

Each to their own and I'm sure if you keep searching everything you eat there will be a reason not to eat it. It's where to stop?!

Must admit just by cutting the fizz out and alcohol I've actually lost weight 🤗 I hope I can stick to it after baby is here too!!!

Since2016 · 13/09/2018 11:18

Thanks @notquiteagandt I’m rarely sick so I’m hopeful this was a one off but urgh!!!! Feel so much for anyone still being sick daily just awful

Yakadee · 13/09/2018 11:36

@Baby160P - that's the main bit that worries me. My hubby keeps saying it's full of chemicals and I totally get where he's coming from. I defo don't over do it though so really hoping it's not an issue x

DuchieBlonde · 13/09/2018 11:45

@Since2016 oh no not fun! Hope the rest of the commute wasn’t too bad! @Notquiteagandt my morning sickness seems to have come back with a vengeance the last week and a half. Had a couple of weeks of feeling better and thinking that was the end of it, but seems I was just lulled into a false sense of hopefulness. Will have to get some of those bags, I’ve been carrying plastic shopping bags in my handbag just in case 😬! Hope it eases soon for you!

Fredthespider · 13/09/2018 11:48

@Yakadee I drink about 500ml of Diet Coke every day, it's where I get my caffeine from and I couldn't function without it! I've cut down loads from what I used to drink (started cutting down a couple of years ago) but not cut it out. The way I see it, it might not be good for the baby (or me!) but I'm not convinced that it's actually going to do any harm per se. There is apparently a link between sweeteners and childhood BMI, but there are loads of other things that contribute to BMI that I'm not sure you could really say it's caused by the sweeteners.

Lookingforadvice123 · 13/09/2018 11:54

Fredthespider interesting, what's the link with sweeteners and BMI? I don't like sweeteners other than in drinks (never take them in my coffee etc) and I'm all for full fat proper versions of things eg butter, mayo etc. Stuff like Flora I find gross!

Baby160P · 13/09/2018 12:01

@Yakadee there's no harm in cutting back if you're worried? Soda water or sparkling water and lime?

UndercoverLauren · 13/09/2018 12:24

@Yakadee I have a can a day. If there was any evidence it caused harm you can bet it would be added to the enormous list of things we have to avoid. Just keep an eye on your caffeine levels :)

Surprisedmom · 13/09/2018 12:55

I’ve had a can of Coke every now and again and when I was very dizzy in the heat this summer and going faint it was by far the best thing to help me feel better quickly (a friend recommended it). I don’t think anything in moderation will cause harm, except the foods we’re specifically told to avoid.

Also, I remember watching a documentary years ago about baby development in the womb and the foods they come into contact with then effect what they’re able to process as children/adults. They did a study comparing how people who had emigrated to a country coped with its food, versus those who had been fed that food in the womb. They concluded that American born citizens were less likely to develop diabetes on the same diet as someone who was not exposed to the sugary/processed American foods in the womb. Now, I am NOT saying I think we should all be eating crap, but IMO if my bump is going to eat/drink these foods in life then they’re fine in moderation now.

sickmumma · 13/09/2018 13:32

Gosh I really wouldn't worry! With my first child I drank a ridiculous amount of coke - he is 8 and has a 6 pack so it def hasn't effected his BMI 😂

I drink Coke Zero generally (I didn't realise it has caffeine in 😳) prob a can or two a day and occasionally I've been having full fat coke but generally tap full fat coke (eg with my macdonalds chips 🙈😳)

I dread to think what rubbish this baby has had - I started off well craving apples and fruit, then it went to Belgium buns and it's only now I'm 16 weeks that I'm starting to be able to eat proper meals with veg for dinner but still in between find it hard to fancy certain foods and get a good balance! Tbh I have lost so much weight with the sickness whatever I could keep down was a bonus (I weighed myself I have gained 1lb all pregnancy)

I don't really have a bump either yet I had a bit of a mummy tummy anyway so it still looks like that but I can see it's def more hard and round but to an outsider just a little tummy fat 😂

Rowse · 13/09/2018 15:06

Can anyone recommend a good pregnancy app that shows the babies size compared to fruit or veg? The one I have has such random fruits half the time I have to google to see the size and the other half I have to google to find out the non-American name to work out what it is!

DuchieBlonde · 13/09/2018 15:57

@Rowse I really like the Ovia Pregnancy app for the baby size comparison. You can pick whether you want Fruit&Veg, Parisian Bakery, Animals and something else I think. This week baby is a Pomegranate apparently 😊

DragonFlew · 13/09/2018 18:07

I use Ovia too - i have it on random comparisons and, we've had a toy car, a troll doll and this week we are a superhero figure! My kids think it's brilliant!

Fredthespider · 13/09/2018 19:05

@Lookingforadvice123 It's just an increase of an overweight BMI of children at 1 year old if the mothers drink a daily drink with sweeteners in it, but the study itself says more research is needed. They acknowledged that they didn't look at the overall diet of the mothers, and also considered the fact that BMI isn't always the best indicator of health. I think you could probably find a study on most things being bad for you nowadays!

AnnieBee2 · 13/09/2018 20:32

@Rowse another vote for Ovia here - it's also American but doesn't bother me! Smile

AliceRR · 13/09/2018 20:36

I’m going to get the Ovia app to try too!

I’ve been using Pregnancy+ which a colleague recommended and it’s ok

Baby160P · 13/09/2018 21:12

I'm craving milk. Literally had 3 pints in 24 hours 🙈😬

AliceRR · 13/09/2018 21:18

@Baby160P Milk is good for baby’s bones etc! 🙂

Baby160P · 13/09/2018 22:07

@AliceRR it'll be one strong boned baby that's for sure! 🙈

sickmumma · 13/09/2018 22:36

We had our scan earlier this evening! We are having a little girl!!

Two of each! The private scan was really lovely! MIL and FIL came too, when they said girl (had to go for a walk as she had her legs crossed at first!!) FIL ended up crying 🙈 daughter nearly exploded in excitement and our eldest boy has been chatting about it and singing baby sister the whole journey home! Was so cute! Feel quite a bit more excited now and glad we did find out now!

I wish I craved milk! I worry about my teeth but if I drink anything milky I am sick even still now! I really fancy some yogurts but they are making me sick. I Have even gone of chocolate which for me is unheard of!! I can't wait to be able to enjoy food properly again!!

Lulabell1 · 13/09/2018 23:15

Each to their own i say!
Im wheat intolerant theres a lot i cant eat because contains gluten honestly you wouldnt even no like soy sauce, oven chips, liquorice & even gravy and stock cubes!!! I do eat some things they say you can like iv had spread cheese, and a bit of sea food and i ate absolutely everything when pregnant with DD as i never new.

The midwife told me i can have 3 coffees a day so i dont see why the caffeine in diet coke from 1 or 2 a day will x
