@SPR1107 amazing news!!! I was thinking about you but didn't want to intrude in case the worst! Soooo happy to hear all is fine!!!

AmyRhodes · 01/09/2018 08:28

Hey ladies,

So lovely to hear the good news from those of you that have had scans 🙌❤️👶🏼 Congratulations.

I'm afraid I'm not going to post here anymore. I'm not assuming anyone would've noticed and I've never written an "I'm leaving" post on anything before, but just in case - We're pregnant and you've all been kind and supportive and I didn't want to leave the impression that something had gone wrong with my pregnancy.

Two reasons:

  1. Overuse. I can get anxious and reading too much online doesn't help.
  1. I can't support Mumsnet. When I joined this website I was TTC and I thought this was a place where women asked questions, advice etc. I had no idea about the very active, transphobic community on here. Once I noticed it and did a bit of research I found it's quite well-documented and has been covered in the press how transphobic some parts of the forum are. Worse still, the founder of Mumsnet appears to be doing very little to tackle the issue "in the interest of debate", but then my lone comment in one forum disagreeing with these posters was deleted by Mumsnet HQ. I know I'm only one little user and this website or its sponsors won't notice me, it's just that I don't feel comfortable lining the pockets of this organisation. If I'd known, I never would have joined.

To all of you on this thread - You've been lovely 😊 Best of luck to all of you with your pregnancies.

Xxxxxxxxx

@AmyRhodes if you wanted to carry on just with us what about joining the Facebook group? Get it if you think that's just more of the same. I don't use Mumsnet outside of this group as it's largely a bunch of bullying harpies so completely understand you're stance

Just added myself too!
Amy I think mumsnet has changed so much over the nearly 10 years I’ve been on here, just block the AIBU and other parts that bother you. I think generally we’re probably surrounded by people who have different views to us, on an anonymous forum people spout everything, things that they wouldn’t even say in real life.

AmyRhodes · 01/09/2018 08:52

Great idea @Fluffy475 I hadn't thought of that! Can I blame baby brain yet?!

Once I get on a desktop I will message @organised5 and get her to add me 👍👍

Could I join the facebook group as well? Probably a stupid question but can friends see that you have joined?x

@kettleonplease no your friends shouldn't see as it's a secret group (not a silly question at all i was worried about the same thing!!) X

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 01/09/2018 17:52

Has anyone here been on slimming world in pregnancy? I’ve never done it but am now seriously considering it. I’ve struggled with my weight in the past, particularly in pregnancy and postpartum and I just can’t face the thought of having so much weight to lose at the end of this. I’ve been at both ends of the scale, and had anorexia about 9 years ago which I know will make it more difficult emotionally for me as I still have a lot of guilt around food, though I consider myself recovered now and don’t weigh myself, my body when left alone seems to want to be about a size 14 and I accept that. I asked my midwife at booking in to not show me my weight and she was great about it, but I just logged into my online notes to see if I had a scan date booked yet, and my BMI is written in big letters at the top. At 28.8 it’s more than I’m happy with. I don’t want to know my weight but assume I’m only a few pounds from the obese category. I’m struggling to eat well as my nausea has ramped up in the last week or so and I feel like I need to eat far more than I’m comfortable with. Is slimming world actually a decent option if I don’t know when the nausea will stop? I don’t want to lose weight particularly, I just want to not pile it on. Will they allow me to join without actually telling me my weight?!

Dani7 · 01/09/2018 19:20

@AwkwardAsAllGetout I’ve never done Slimming World so can’t answer most of your question but I wanted to say I completely symphasise and understand where you are coming from. This is my first pregnancy and I am concerned about the weight gain. I always struggle to maintain my weight and although I fit in size 10’s my BMI always sits just over 25 which makes it the ‘overweight category’. This has caused me many issues with my self confidence! I eat healthily and exercise regularly. At my booking appointment, they weighed me and I was about a stone and a half heavier than ‘normal’ this sat me at 27.2 - so I think you are still quite far off being ‘obese’. I discussed it with MW and she said as long as it’s under 30 then they are happy as they know that BMI is not an accurate representation for every shape and size! (And my 32e boobs are like boulders already!) I hope this has helped put your mind at rest that you are healthy. Try not to worry too much but I totally understand too x

SheRaTheAllPowerful · 01/09/2018 19:22

You might want to ask under the Slimming world topic section awkward as I imagine there are leaders etc on there.
I know you are allowed to do slimming world whilst pregnant you get extra healthy A&B choices (fibre & dairy) the premise is healthy eating so I’d definitely give it a go, I’ve lost weight with it before pregnancy and am still on a 12 week programme. I think you can weigh blind too, it’s just a number though, Isnt it better to know? X

supersonicwoman1 · 01/09/2018 19:23

I have a scan tomorrow at 9.30, it says to have a full bladder and I'm worried about it. My morning sickness is worst in the morning so I have no idea how I'll drink 1lrt of water before 9.30.🤢

Anyone have any advice for me?

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 01/09/2018 19:27

Thanks both x Dani I know what you’re saying, I’m a 34F and have already grown so god knows they add a hefty amount by themselves! As far as knowing the number, this is a real sticking point for me. I won’t have scales in the house as when I was at my worst I was weighing multiple times a day and I feel it would be very easy for me to slide back into obsessions about every tiny gain. I’d rather know I’d lost/gained/maintained an amount rather than the actual number, as unfortunately for me, I don’t think it would just be a number. I’ve had a lovely reply to my text from the group leader who said she’s happy for me to weigh blind and to come along and she’ll explain everything and get me started. It’ll feel nice to feel I’m doing something positive. In my two pregnancies where I was heavier, I had awful SPD and I’m sure my weight contributed. I want to avoid that level of discomfort and immobility if I possibly can.

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 01/09/2018 19:29

@supersonicwoman1, I’d say don’t drink til you get there. I remember my first 12 week scan and I was drinking about an hour in advance and he’d to stop the scan halfway through as I was bursting Blush they could see just fine after I’d been x if they can’t see through your abdomen, they’ll do an internal scan which really isn’t as awful as it sounds.
