@melissa112 yes we're having the Harmony next week, at 10.5 weeks. Last time though we had it at 14 weeks, after getting odds we didn't feel confident about on the NHS test. You don't have to do it before the NHS dating scan. You could always wait and see what odds you get back on that and see if you want to do further testing?

@LovelyFishy my sickness definitely eased at 11 weeks with DS so don't worry!

HidCat · 23/08/2018 14:51

@puravida31 lovely scan, congratulations!

Lots of scanxiety here too (love that!). Just trying to remind myself that it's most likely ok. Feeling really gassy and sick this afternoon and I've been to the loo 4 x in an hour! Maybe I shouldn't have had subway for lunch.

@BadBadBeans phew, glad they could reschedule!

cardboard33 · 23/08/2018 15:01

@melissa112 when we spoke to the midwife at our booking she implied that everyone pretty much did it after their 12 week scan if they did go private, as then they'd know the results from their NHS tests hence the reason it would be cheaper.

wordsmithereens · 23/08/2018 15:13

@ballanj Sorry to hear you're struggling so much with the anxiety. Just to add another voice to say that it's quite normal - there's just so much that's uncertain that we can't control in this situation. I definitely had a real wobble the day before my early scan. I think the only thing you can do is try and accept the anxiety when it comes, but avoid feeding it if possible, e.g. no googling (so hard), try and take it one day/moment at a time.

Fingers crossed for all you scan-to-bes!

BadBadBeans · 23/08/2018 15:14

@cardboard33 Yea ours was minimally cheaper with DS because we had already had the dating scan, so didn't need another as we knew where we were. We have to pay for a private dating scan as well this time as it is before the NHS dating scan. The NIPT still costs the same either way though.

frenchgal · 23/08/2018 17:18

@melissa112 Panorama is the newer technology so more accurate (less false positive). No need to add micro deletions. It's about 500 pounds and you can do it from 9 weeks.

puravida31 · 23/08/2018 17:24

Thank you ladies. @ballanj I’m sorry the worry is getting you down but yes, I also really struggled the last couple of weeks. DH has been super excited for today’s scan and I just couldn’t, I think I was preparing for the worst and trying to self protect maybe. What I would say though is that all went out the window once I saw that wriggly little baby on the screen! I know there’s nothing that will reassure you until that point, but try to avoid the dreaded google!!

LittleKitty1985 · 23/08/2018 17:30

@melissa112 We had our harmony test and first scan at 10 weeks, booked it through ultrasound direct and it cost £400 in total, including loads of scan photos. My NHS dating scan is next week when I'll be 13 weeks. For us it was so worth it to see our little one wiggling and to get piece of mind 3 weeks early (the pre-scan anxiety was awful but I've barely worried since), plus amazing to find out the gender too!

VillageFete · 23/08/2018 18:06

Scanxiety is a brilliant one and is exactly how I feel! Please can anyone offer some reassurance? I have a complicated history of secondary infertility. Lots of fertility operations, 6 months of clomid, an IVF early miscarriage, a failed IVF cycle, 4 years of hell, and a 9 year old DD who is so unbelievably desperate for a sibling has left me feeling incredibly anxious.

This pregnancy is miraculous and natural and i’m 8+3 today. I’ve had two scans that show a baby and heartbeat, but i’m desperately worried today. I think it’s because of a FB group i’m on where 2 women have been for scans and all has been ok around the 6/7 week mark, and then at the 12 week scan there’s no longer a heartbeat Sad

I keep looking at my DD and i’m wracked with guilt incase something goes wrong and I let her down? She needs a sibling, and I need to complete my family. I am worrying myself sick today. My heart is racing and I actually feel a bit depressed? Can anyone offer some reassurance that things will possibly be ok? I have another scan booked on Tues (9+1) But I know I won’t relax until that 12 week scan. I wish I could sleep time away until then.

melissa112 · 23/08/2018 18:07

Thanks all for your thoughts on the NIPT. I did speak to someone at a place in Manchester where they offer 4 types but recommend the NIFTY test due to the accuracy, redraw rate and turnaround time.

My only concern is that I had 2 early internal scans due to bad pain down one side, at 5 weeks and 7 weeks. Last Sunday at 10wks we had a private scan for reassurance where I measured 10+2 so it'd mean having another scan next week and then whenever I get the appointment for the 12 week scan

I'm worried about harm to the baby because of the ultrasounds? It'd be 5 in total already and 3 within pretty much 3 weeks which seems a lot? But I definitely do want the NIPT blood test

HidCat · 23/08/2018 18:28

@VillageFete it's so hard when you see others going through heartache and reminds us how precious and fragile these babies are. Nothing anyone says will necessarily reassure us that things will be fine this time but try not to let the anxiety control you. Big hug to you for support. 🤗

ladycarlotta · 23/08/2018 18:42

@VillageFete huge hugs to you. I've had 3 miscarriages but absolutely nothing compared to the journey you've been on - I can only say that I absolutely feel you on the fear of things going wrong. Every day that you are pregnant is a good day, and one day when you've got your baby in your arms all this will seem like a distant memory. Fingers crossed that it all goes smoothly. Stay strong!

PurpleFlower1983 · 23/08/2018 18:45

@VillageFete

I’ve come off some of the FB groups I was on for this reason, I think sometimes it just heightens anxiety. Remember, you have fallen pregnant naturally, your body was ready for the pregnancy and the odds are on your side for all to be ok. Flowers

melissa112 · 23/08/2018 19:20

@villagefete sending loads of hugs. I worry every day that something is going to go wrong so I feel you on that one. I really hope that Tuesday's scan helps with your anxiety

VillageFete · 23/08/2018 20:56

Huge thanks for the support, it helps to know i’m not going crazy! I have my booking in appt in the morning with the Midwife, i’ll let her know how i’m feeling & hopefully she can help put me mind at rest a little.

@ladycarlotta I can’t even allow myself to imagine how horrendous 3 miscarriages must be. You are so strong to keep going. Best of luck with the rest of it all Flowers

@PurpleFlower1983 I think i’m going to either leave the groups or turn notifications off. They really are heightening my anxiety, you’re spot on.

Wineandchoccy · 23/08/2018 21:10

@VillageFete You have really been through it Sad I hope everything goes ok and dd gets her longed for sibling

wordsmithereens · 23/08/2018 21:28

@VillageFete Many hugs, it must be so difficult after everything it's taken to get there. The miscarriage association says on their website that: "Research amongst women with a history of recurrent miscarriage has shown that those who saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks of pregnancy had a 78% chance of the pregnancy continuing. It also showed that seeing a heartbeat at 8 weeks increased the chance of a continuing pregnancy to 98% and at 10 weeks that went up to 99.4%."
So statistically your risk has already dropped massively. I know that's probably not going to take the fear away, but perhaps it helps just a little.

VillageFete · 23/08/2018 21:40

Oh, thank you. You are all incredibly kind. It’s so lovely to be able to come on here and get some support. I’ve never wanted something so much, it’s all consuming sometimes. Hopefully i’ll be able to relax a little on Tuesday Smile

BadBadBeans · 24/08/2018 06:48

@melissa112 if you have already had a private dating scan there might not be a need for another? I'm not sure about the risks of multiple ultrasounds - I had thought there weren't any, but then I read an article the other day which briefly mentioned that it might pose a risk. Not sure what that was based on, unfortunately.

@VillageFete that sounds hard. I totally get where you're coming from. Try to remember that every time you see a scan with a heartbeat it gets a little less likely that something will go wrong. Oh - ive just seen that @wordsmithereens has said this but with added stats! I'm glad you've got one more scan to get you through till the 12 week mark!

Minichuch · 24/08/2018 10:26

Booked my scan this morning and it's not for another 3 weeks - how am I gonna wait that long 🤦🏻‍♀️

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 24/08/2018 10:41

I've got 4 hours til my scan. I'm so nervous now! Last night I felt like I was starting a new job or something 😂 was really nervy and couldn't sleep at all. Time is dragging!!

Shampooeeee · 24/08/2018 10:45

Had my scan this morning and it went well. Baby is a wriggly little thing and even gave us a wave. Low risk factors so I’m happy to proceed without a NIPT.
DS came along and seemed to enjoy it. He was asking a lot of questions “what’s that?” “what’s that” and at one point I heard DH reply “that’s a model of a vagina”.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 24/08/2018 10:49

@Shampooeeee Really pleased it went well and you've got a wriggly little bean. Bless your DS, that's hilarious!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 24/08/2018 10:53

I'm also not sure how I'm going to be able to go with a full bladder. I constantly need to pee as I'm so nervous!

ladycarlotta · 24/08/2018 11:03

@Assumeitwassomethingclever enjoy the scan! It's lovely when you're in there.

@Shampooeeee so pleased to hear it went well! Brilliant re DS and the vagina model. Was he able to understand that the scan was of a baby inside you?
