Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been updating -I have been keeping track of you all and glad to hear people are getting over hurdles of scans and starting to feel (slightly) better....

I had my private reassurance scan on Sunday and it was far from reassuring.... the "scanner" -not sure what his title was had said that the sac looked good etc but struggled to see what he needed to inside... he asked me to drink water, it didn't make a difference, he couldn't do an internal as his secretary wasn't there and I was alone and to be honest I switched off from what he was saying as I was so upset. I've contacted my local GEU today, they were so lovely and have given me an appointment for Thursday.

Not great at all. Part of me just wants to ignore it all and stay in bed and the other knows I need to address it. Anyway, I'm sorry to be a wet blanket when you all have such lovely news... just wanted to update I suppose on my MIA status.

Good luck to all of you for the rest of your journeys Thanks

ladycarlotta · 21/08/2018 17:41

congrats @thefirsttimer yep, I reckon you're the earliest of all of us - rather interested to see how that'll pan out in reality!

@Squashbanana1 matching due dates and headaches! What joy! She suggested moving mine to the 3rd but I might just stick where I am given that she wasn't sure. I'm not ready to give up that hard-won extra day!

I've texted a bunch of friends now @Shampooeeee, and will send a card to my granddad's widow. I didn't want her to get excited about it before it was more certain. It's nice knowing I can be open about it in conversation now if I choose to be, but I don't think I'll be putting in on facebook or anything.

MistakenHoliday · 21/08/2018 17:50

@Squashbanana1 yay, scan buddies!

@orangekitkat13 what a lovely picture

@thecherryontop that's so rubbish about the scan. Hopefully he was just a bit crap, and there isn't anything to worry about.

thefirsttimer · 21/08/2018 17:51

@orangekitkat13 oh noo, don't say that! I'm still hoping someone will overtake me, we need one of the old timers (and hence labour pros!) to lead the way . Lots of us in February now though! Enjoy your curry and chocolate!

Thanks @Shampooeeee and @ladycarlotta Smile

@Shampooeeee sorry you're still suffering on the nausea front! If it makes you feel any better, this past weekend was my worst yet! Holding onto the hope that we surely don't have much longer to put up with it now though 🤞🏼.

thefirsttimer · 21/08/2018 17:52

@thecherryontop fingers crossed all is well and the sonographer was just having a bad day! Let us know how you get on xx

orangekitkat13 · 21/08/2018 17:57

@thecherryontop sorry to hear that you haven't had the news your we're hoping for. Hopefully everything will be ok.

ladycarlotta · 21/08/2018 18:02

hugs to you, @thecherryontop, it really might be that if it's early on and your bladder wasn't full enough and there wasn't an option for an internal, it just wasn't going to be a clear picture. Really hoping it was just one of those days and you get answers soon! Do allow yourself a little bit of wallowing, it's such a fraught situation. Fingers crossed for Thursday.

Murphyrocks · 21/08/2018 18:08

Sorry to hear that @cherryontop, fx all is well and bean just being awkward.

Congrats on today's scans @orangekitkat13 and @ladycarlotta, so exciting for you both! I've got mine in the morning, counting down the hours and beyond terrified! I paid for the 8 week scan so I'd be less nervous for this one but not sure it helped much! Just desperate to know all is well.

thecherryontop · 21/08/2018 18:09

Thanks everyone. Just so crap! Will let you know how I get on X

Orville82 · 21/08/2018 18:13

Lovely to see all of these scan pics. I feel so behind!
thecherry I’m sorry your scan wasn’t more successful. Glad you’ve got something to look forward to for Thursday.

Ah man! I’m obviously a bit thick and didn’t realise that PPH would be considered in subsequent pregnancies. I lost 1450ml last time and believe it contributed heavily to my PND. I’ve got my booking in on Fri so I suppose that’ll all be discussed then. I was really hoping to be considered low risk, but with my old bones (36) chances aren’t looking great now ☹️

Having said that, for those who were looking at hypnobirthing, DO IT! I did an 8 hour course over 4 weeks and it was the best thing ever. 18 hour labour, 9lb 8oz baby and no pain relief required at all. The final hurdle with the haemorrhage etc wasn’t exactly planned, but 5 minutes after, I remember saying I could do it all again right then!

HidCat · 21/08/2018 18:18

@orangekitkat13 congratulations, lush scan pic and good news about the Michal fluids too.

@thecherryontop I'm sorry your scan was so difficult. Hopefully the scan on Thursday will show everything clearly.

thefirsttimer · 21/08/2018 18:36

Wow @Orville82 that's pretty impressive! Well done you!

BadBadBeans · 21/08/2018 19:40

@ladycarlotta and a lovely sea otter it is too 😂

@orangekitkat13 congratulations on a great scan.

@thecherryontop I honestly don't think it sounds like you need to worry. How far along did you think you were? May well just be a tad early for an external ultrasound. Great news that you can be seen on Thursday - not long to wait. I know it's hard though. Look after yourself the next couple of days x

@Orville82 sounds like you had the birth I dreamed of - minus the blood loss...! I do think hypnobirthing is fantastic. Yes it does sound like you might be referred to a consultant but that doesn't necessarily mean you won't get the birth you want this time. The consultant-led unit I ended up in had a pool for water births. I wasn't allowed in mind you, but obviously lots of people were or they wouldn't have had one!

I honestly can't believe how big my tummy is at 9.5 weeks. I swear I didn't show this much till 15 or 16 weeks last time!

Murphyrocks · 21/08/2018 19:47

Thanks @Orville82 and @BadBadBeans for your hypnobirthing recommendations, off the back of them and a few others on here saying similar I've just sent a message to a local hypnobirthing centre.

@Orville82 OMG me too, was barely even showing at my 20 week scan last time and I'm already massive now the day before my 12 week one!

Velcro88 · 21/08/2018 19:47

@thecherryontop I wish you all the very best for Thursday- I'm really sorry it didn't go smoothly for your first scan, got everything crossed that it was just baby didn't want to play ball.

So relieved to say our scan went well today. Sonographer was reassured about nuchal measurement and baby is measuring ahead a bit - due date has been brought forward to 27 Feb! Also the card machine was broken so photos were free in the end!

Very surreal to see it wriggling around in there. The placenta is also developing at the front which means it will be longer before I feel any kicks sadly. Baby Velcro's first photo attached. I love its nose already.

Wineandchoccy · 21/08/2018 19:50

@thecherryontop That sounds very frustrating but very much like a useless sonographer I’m glad you are being seen on Thursday and hope everything is ok.

@Velcro88 Great photo Smile another February due date Grin

BadBadBeans · 21/08/2018 19:53

@Murphyrocks fabulous- hope you enjoy it! I felt it helped me to know I was doing something active and positive to prepare for the birth too.

@Velcro88 gorgeous photo! I had an anterior placenta too and I felt kicks at 18 weeks. X

Gronk27 · 21/08/2018 20:00

Is McDonalds a food group? I DID have a melon bag.

So phoned the Midwives about my urine sample as I was suspicious and they said it came back fine. I'm really getting that uncomfy feeling after wees though. Is this a pregnancy thing? Just more sensitive? Eating endless Big Mac meals and not drinking enough water? I've barely looked a fruit or veg in the eye for a weeks.

Velcro88 · 21/08/2018 20:13

@BadBadBeans did you! Ok that's exciting, fingers crossed then 🤞🏻🙂

Bluebelltulip · 21/08/2018 20:15

Velcro88 I had an anterior placenta and still felt movement fairly early. I think it varies a lot.

Murphyrocks · 21/08/2018 20:42

@Velcro88 one of my best friends had an anterior placenta with both of hers and still felt kicks 18 to 20 weeks, still varies quite a bit!

TheWanderlust · 21/08/2018 20:56

@Gronk27 it certainly is. I've been fancying nuggets and chips... a lot

Wineandchoccy · 21/08/2018 20:56

@Velcro88 I also had an anterior placenta last time I felt movement around 20 weeks

SquirtlesMumAgain · 21/08/2018 22:04

Lovely scan photos.

We're away at my parents for a week, feeling shoddy but thankfully they know so are looking after us as best they can! Will pop in when I can, good luck to those with more scans/appointments coming up.

ladycarlotta · 21/08/2018 22:45

@Orville82 wow, your hypnobirthing experience sounds amazing and encouraging. Are you (is one, I mean) more prone to PPH if it's happened before? I hope you get another good (and less dicey) birth whichever way you end up having to go.

ooh @Velcro88 your scan is lovely! Such a distinctive little profile already! Congratulations!

There was a sign up in reception at the hospital saying that we got one photo free, but the sonographer handed me a strip of 3 and didn't mention anything about paying for them, and afterwards we were so distracted by getting bloods etc that we didn't think to ask about paying. So we got them free but I haven't a clue whether we should have done.
