are there any hypnobirthing resources you old hands would particularly recommend?

MistakenHoliday · 19/08/2018 19:26

Last time I got a Marie Mongan book and a Maggie Howell one and flitted between the two. One of them has a CD that you listen to every night. I have to admit I didn't, mainly because I'm a do-er and didn't like lying still for so long!

I've resolved to do better this time Smile

Nightmanagerfan · 19/08/2018 20:29

Thanks for the hypnobirthing book recommendations - I’ll look those up a bit further into the pregnancy.

This weekend I am feeling awful and very sorry for myself. DH and I had a weekend away (booked ages ago) to a country hotel with a visit to a national trust type place. I managed to eat dinner in the pub last night then threw up in the pub loo before we’d even finished... bed at 9pm and even a 12-hour sleep didn’t help! Visit to NT place was awful as I felt seasick the whole time and ended up lying on the grass. I’ve been pregnant before and I don’t remember feeling this bad last time...

Marmite2018 · 20/08/2018 07:59

Out of interest (and some desperation) is anyone still being sick every day at around the 11 week mark? Although I have longer periods of feeling less sick, I'm still being sick every morning and feeling nauseas until lunch and then from about 7pm onwards I'm nauseas again! I need hope that there can't be much longer left of this...

SquirtlesMumAgain · 20/08/2018 08:12

@Nightmanagerfan I definitely don't remember it being this hard last time. So sick and exhausted, I feel pathetic

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 20/08/2018 08:39

I've got a probably very stupid question...
I've suffered from cervical erosion which has had to be cauterised a few times. It is also tilted and sits quite low down so I often have a bit of blood after sex. I'm a bit worried when we DTD now I'm pregnant it's going to cause bleeding and I don't want to risk a MC. Has anyone else had a similar experience or got any advice?

TheWanderlust · 20/08/2018 08:45

Is bleeding after DTD in pregnancy very common? We did it last night and I've had some bleeding which has unnerved me a little ...

Bluebelltulip · 20/08/2018 09:04

Thewanderlust I had some bleeding after DTD last pregnancy which the midwife said is common and ok if it doesn't last long. Mine had stopped by morning on every occasion. Not happened this pregnancy but not had much chance to either.

BadBadBeans · 20/08/2018 09:05

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I don't know anything about that specifically, but perhaps it would be worth ringing to ask your midwife? Have you booked in yet? Would be a shame to abstain if you don't need to. (If you fancy it, that is! Ha!)

@TheWanderlust I think it is fairly common due to the cervix changing during pregnancy, but I don't know for sure. Have you had a look on the NHS website? That's usually quite informative.

@Nightmanagerfan that sounds absolutely awful. I'm so sorry it's ruining your weekend. We were supposed to go away this weekend and we cancelled because, although I'm not as bad as you, I really could not face the thought of 5 hours there and 5 hours back in the car.

@ladycarlotta I was actually given a naughty copied hypnobirth CD from a friend of mine and I don't even know what the original was. I've since lost the CD though so I'm going to have to ask him the name as this time round I feel I ought to buy it. When I find out I'll let you know!

Had some pretty epic dreams about having an ELCS last night. I think it was all that chat on the thread about blood loss the day before!

melissa112 · 20/08/2018 09:38

@Marmite2018. Desperate to hear some positive answers too! I'm only 10+3 but have been sick and felt sick all day for the last 5 weeks. It's really getting me down and it's got so bad I needed to call in sick today.
Here's hoping there's some light at the end of the tunnel soon.

ladycarlotta · 20/08/2018 09:47

@Marmite2018 so sorry it's still rough for you. I really hope it eases soon! It should. If it helps, I'm now 12+2 and this last weekend has been amongst the worst I've felt. Mostly the migraine but a lot of nausea and exhaustion too. It's horrible not seeing an end to it. I'm feeling better today and on the whole I think the good days are starting to outweigh the bad. We'll get through this!

melissa112 · 20/08/2018 09:51

We had a private scan yesterday as I was being a bit paranoid and haven't got my date for the NHS one yet. I thought i was 10wks exactly based on last period but was measuring 10+2. The lady said everything looked ok but I can't seem to find any legs on the picture? I'm sure she would have said if she didn't seem them as she said baby was very wriggly. Am I just being paranoid? I've tried to attach the pic. I think the floating thing above it's head was the yolk sac? But not sure on the little thing above the body, and can't see any legs...

melissa112 · 20/08/2018 09:54

Actually maybe the thing above Its head isn't a yolk sac. I wish I could remember but it's all a blur now. Just weighed myself and have lost 10lbs since I got pregnant with all the sickness. Hope I'm not doing baby any harm Sad

ladycarlotta · 20/08/2018 10:06

lovely scan, melissa112. You should be delighted! Ultrasounds basically show a kind of lateral slice, as opposed to a photo with spatial depth, so if the baby's legs are not in the 'slice', they won't show. It doesn't mean it doesn't have any. In this case, the picture focuses on the torso, and the legs will have been on either side of it (and also still quite tucked up) so not picked up in the image.

The sonographer will have looked at the baby from all sorts of angles taking measurements and will DEFINITELY have noticed if there were missing limbs. Some of the angles they're interested in seeing don't look much like a baby at all, so the picture they choose to give you is usually one that is most recognisable.

Basically, don't worry. It's fine.

BadBadBeans · 20/08/2018 10:22

@melissa112 aw lovely scan! Watch this video www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=fo1K7vrJI_g of a 10 week scan and see how the legs and arms appear and disappear from view. It's all good!

melissa112 · 20/08/2018 10:26

Thank you both for your reassuring messages! They've made me feel much better now and the video definitely helps. I guess I just need to relax a little bit!! Thanks Smile

Minichuch · 20/08/2018 11:26

Having a slight freak out - tmi sorry in advance - found brown discharge on wiping last night and this morn had nothing else - could it be from over doing it over the weekend ie helping oh with boarding the loft and trying to deep clean the kitchen 🤦🏻‍♀️ will be happier once get to 12 week scan although a private scan is looking more and more tempting!

Nightmanagerfan · 20/08/2018 11:31

@minichuch sorry to hear that - if you are worried could you give your midwife a call? Brown suggests old blood rather than fresh, which is a good sign, but do get checked out. They may even offer you an early scan which could reassure you?

@melissa112 I’ve taken a day off today too. So far I’m still in bed! Really feel I need it after the weekend.

@badbadbeans we should have cancelled the weekend too but it was non refundable! I am going through my diary now and cancelling anything I can as I just want to rest and hopefully get to work as much as I can. So far I’ve avoided throwing up at work and am dreading it if I am sick there as we have one loo for about ten of us... when I’m sick I need to sit there for ages so I think it will be really obvious.

Sending flowers to all those who are still feeling dreadful - we will get through it! At this stage it feels relentless.

HidCat · 20/08/2018 11:35

Morning everyone, I hope you're all ok. I'm back in work and actually feeling ok, though I was anxious yesterday! Still haven't told anyone but have my scan a week Thursday so will hold out til then. Oh, and my midwife has found my notes! They're in the post - phew!

toastfiend · 20/08/2018 11:37

Sorry to hear so many are feeling so poorly still. Sad I'm 12 + 2 today, nausea has actually come back the past couple of days, but I'm lucky in that I haven't been sick (so far), just feel sea sick. I'm hoping it'll ease off again soon. We're due to go on holiday today and flying late tonight, which is when the nausea tends to be at its worst, so I'm feeling a bit stressed about that at the moment.

With regards to bleeding, I'm not expert but I've had lots of bleeding during this pregnancy and have also had a cervical ectropian in the past, caused by being on the pill. It seems to have flared up again as it bleeds at all the same times, after DTD and if I'm constipated (sorry for TMI! Blush) All was fine at my dating scan though and I was bleeding a little that day too, so it appears to not be causing problems so far, it's just very stressful. The midwife did mention it's very common at my booking on appointment as they're caused by hormonal changes, hence why they tend to flare up if you're on hormonal contraception or pregnant. Honestly, I appreciate now how naive I was, but I never thought this whole process would be so fraught and stressful!

Marmite2018 · 20/08/2018 12:18

Ah @toastfiend my best recommendation for flying when feeling sick is to gather as many airplane sick bags as possible and keep them in your handbag. It will help with the anxiety, and try and get an aisle seat. But also relax and enjoy the break!

I guess I'm not alone in the feeling crappy club. Fingers crossed it's not going to be for much longer. Im just glad I'm not back to work for another two weeks, I don't know how you've all done it!
