I’m creating this thread so that we can continue the October 2018 baby bus. Only one page left on ours and once it completes we can’t share this link so getting this done now .... all aboard!

Urgh woke up to my first ever nosebleed and a huge headache. So glad it's a short work day for me. Didn't expect to struggle in the 2nd trimester but I'm exhausted. Really thinking of bringing mat leave forward by a couple of weeks. Sorry for the pity party Sad

Havetothink · 26/07/2018 10:00

I've always been prone to nosebleeds, had a couple early in the pregnancy but none recently. I think it's the heat making the second trimester that much worse, and knowing you've still got to survive August makes it feel like forever. Keep telling myself I just have to make it through August (then one week in September) and I can finally have a day off while dd is at nursery and maybe even get ready for the baby.

Doll87 · 26/07/2018 10:28

Hi everyone,

For the "due dates" thread, i'm officially due 28th September (although my intuition and the date i've worked out to be is 3rd October).

31 weeks tomorrow though

Filzma · 26/07/2018 11:38

Hi all,
How are you keeping in this weather? Really struggling. Got a call from MW to say my iron levels are quite low. So maybe that explains my breathlessness.

I'm already taking liquid iron, any fast solutions to getting my levels back up?

@ATP1000 that pillow is just what I'll be needing for my back. Thanks for sharing.

ATP1000 · 26/07/2018 11:56

@flizma no probs with the pillow, it took a night to get used to it but since then it’s great!

Spinach is high in iron and easy to steam large quantities down to small amounts. I was having around 120g a day of steamed spinach and my iron levels were high. Reduced it to 120g every few days and still ok.
Drink more water though as extra iron doesn’t help with constipation!
I also find that raspberries help a lot if any constipation problems. 😅

@ATP1000 thanks! Plan to get some this evening when it's slightly cooler. Spinach daily in at least 2 meals. I really feel the exhaustion.

unicornchaser · 26/07/2018 12:16

Filzma, not sure how much truth is it in but I got told by the nurse that fresh orange juice helps absorb the iron in food so to have a glass with meals..... I have it with breakfast but who knows the actual effectiveness of it 🤷‍♀️

TinyTerror1 · 26/07/2018 12:24

@Filzma I've also read that orange juice helps with iron absorption if you take it at the same time. As well as green leafy vegetables (spinach and kale), other good sources of iron are fortified breakfast cereals, lean red meat, dried fruits, nuts and seeds, legumes (e.g. chickpeas) and wholegrains (including wholemeal bread). I have been having a small portion of peanuts every day and it seems to stop me feeling so tired (my iron levels are fine).

Oh wow!! Thank you ladies. I've been doing a couple of things wrong. I take the liquid iron right after tea or cereal with milk in the morning. I do have some vitamin c rich fruit with it, but I'm guessing the milk countered any effectiveness.
I've been red meat averse until recently when all I've been craving is beef. Will act on that.
6 months supply for baby!!! Wow, that really makes me want to just eat iron rich foods until the end.
Thank you ladies. ThanksThanks

Havetothink · 26/07/2018 18:59

Anyone had low lymphocytes on a blood test? They're making me redo the bloods again in a month not really sure if I should be worried (of course they told me not to worry but I didn't have this last time). I've read they can drop in pregnancy but I don't know what it means if they stay too low.

unicornchaser · 26/07/2018 20:46

Made note of everyone who has given their due dates recently so will give it a few more days before I post a new thread with it incase anyone else wants their date added.

So far have doll87, Rhibee, Twobambinos, Mamami, Yerp, flamingo19, hayleyxmx, lovesrunning, Caoraich, Tinyterror, Smithguy, ATP1000, Havetothink and Belles86.

TinyTerror1 · 26/07/2018 20:49

@Havetothink Checking Google (so you don't have to), white blood cell count drops until 25-28 weeks then slowly starts to rise again. So it is probably just that yours is at the later end and in a month will be fine and they're checking just to be sure. Try not to worry. Or Google.

unicornchaser · 26/07/2018 20:52

Good luck with the iron @Filzma, I know I don't take in enough iron through my food but thankfully my levels are ok but I think you can pull them up quite quickly if you are dipping a bit low!

unicornchaser · 26/07/2018 20:52

On another note, how is everyone getting on with names?
I am fed up. We have 1 name we both love but will result in the poor kid having to correct everyone all his life as it sounds really similar to another name (which I don't like as it's too commonly used) and none of the other names in the books/online are clicking with us.
I get about 10 mins of the other half's attention on it before he get stroppy and refuses to talk about it anymore. But now we have been through the lists so many times he is flat out refusing to look at anymore

I'm finding it all far too stressful!

Sorry for the 3 posts at once here also!

TinyTerror1 · 26/07/2018 21:04

unicornchaser We also have one name we both like and I keep thinking we should have a list in case it doesn't suit her. I am trying to choose a middle name and OH just keeps saying he doesn't know why she needs one. Are other people giving middle names?

Hayleyxmx · 26/07/2018 21:13

@unicornchaser that was as probably one of the easiest tasks me and my partner had I said the name I liked most and my partner said that’s perfect and won’t consider anything else he said he can picture her as only that name now 🙌🏻

RhiBee29 · 26/07/2018 21:42

@unicornchaser my due date is 29 October

My DS has picked the name if it's a boy. DH and I hadn't even considered it and I don't know where DS got it from but it's perfect. We also have a girls name. We settled on Henry for DS early in my pregnancy then an hour after his birth we decided it really didn't work and changed it!

Havetothink · 26/07/2018 21:51

Thanks tinyterror I'll try and stop googling, it'll probably be fine next time

Cannot choose a name, took ages picking dds name but this one will arrive before we've chosen it. I just stare blankly at the lists of names now. She will have a middle name though, eventually.

Flamingo19 · 26/07/2018 21:53

I’ve had my name since I was 16! I always knew this is what I’d call my daughter and it hasn’t changed

I’m in the south east and must say it’s absolutely awful. It’s manageable (if your off work, starfishing on the bed, with a fan) until about 1pm then it’s just horrific! Luckily my boss told me to yesterday and today off due to the heat

justtowarm · 27/07/2018 07:38

@unicornchaser I'm due 11th October with a girl :)

We have a few names picked. We had three for my little boy and picked the one that suited him. I hope we can do the same again. We have 2 favourites though. Our son (who is 2 1/2) keeps telling us it's one of the names and won't accept any others.... he may have a shock 🙈

Belles86 · 27/07/2018 08:58

Re names, we decided on one for our little girl very early as it has to work in both English and Portuguese. I’m 90% sure but we’re both keeping flexible in case she looks like a Doris 😂

Speaking of languages, got the in laws round for the next few days and feeling quite hormonal and excluded as PIL’s don’t speak eng. It has made me up my game and commit to working on my Portuguese, esp as we want baby to speak both.

Hope you all manage some cool moments today, we’re due a storm here up north 🙌
