I’m creating this thread so that we can continue the October 2018 baby bus. Only one page left on ours and once it completes we can’t share this link so getting this done now .... all aboard!

@hayley that’s amazing you can split between the two - best of both! Can’t beat a good Christmas at home either.

@tinyterror - sounds like you have a huge incentive to be very very well behaved then. If you do everything right then even if you need medication at the end of the week at least you’ll know you did everything you could. And on the bright side there’s not tooooo long to go. Fingers crossed for you. Please let us know how you get on! X

caoraich · 24/07/2018 20:11

Pram-wise we went for the uppababy vista with a maxi cosi car seat that it came in a package with - got a good deal online as it's "last year's model" and there are apparently 2018 colours out now.

What mainly sold me was the enormous basket underneath it for heaving all my crap about!

Smithguy86 · 24/07/2018 20:44

Tiny terror that would be really difficult to control when the pregnancy cravings kick in! I have to go for a GD test next Wednesday so I'm hoping it's negative!

We went for the oyster max we found it the best double for two newborns and got a really good deal on it when the local toys r us was closing down!

unicornchaser · 24/07/2018 21:06

Can I ask what the triggers are to get the GD tests? Nothing has been mentioned to me and now I'm getting a bit paranoid.......

Pram we haven't got yet but think we are going for the Milano Meego, love the way it looks, the enclosed/zippable basket for the wet days and the suspension was a big must for us as I will be in the parks daily with the dog & baby!

TinyTerror1 · 24/07/2018 21:42

unicornchaser for me I was at risk of GD because of polycystic ovaries. Other risk factors are a relative with diabetes, BMI over 30, previous large baby and various ethnic origins (South Asia, Africa, Middle East). Your midwife probably went through it with you at booking but may not have explained why.

Later on you can get referred for testing if you have glucose in your urine at two midwife appointments. So don't panic you're probably fine :)

unicornchaser · 24/07/2018 21:56

Ah ok thanks for explaining @tiny, wasn't sure if it was something that everyone got tested for at a certain point or not

caoraich · 24/07/2018 21:59

@unicornchaser I think it's why they want our pee at every blinking appointment - one of the checks is for glucose that can then trigger GD testing. You're in Glasgow as well aren't you? I'm at the PRM and old Yorkhill - "shared care". Have been really unhappy with PRM though and a bit worried about giving birth there - hoping I'm just an anomaly!

@Milknosugar1 I've had some issues with hyperemesis and also a new onset thyroid problem during pregnancy, so I've had shared care between the local tertiary unit and the community midwives. Community midwives have been fab but the waits for the clinic at the tertiary unit are unreal (>3hrs at times) and you get minimal time with the consultant / midwives there. It's also pretty run down and I've had some concerns about data protection with notes left lying around haphazardly.
I actually AM a doctor, though in a different specialty and not locally, and I feel like you do too, very vulnerable and having difficulty making my voice heard about my wishes etc. I think I just find it jarring as it's really not how I like to interact with my own patients - I really like spending time with them, making sure they understand everything and their questions are answered - whereas this feels like I'm on a conveyor belt and it's an uncomfortable combination of "oh you're a doctor you must know what we're talking about" and rushing me out, and me not feeling able to speak up with my questions etc. I keep asking to be referred back to the community unit and just get my ace GP to manage my blood tests/medications - but they keep saying no. Which makes me feel a bit vulnerable and worried about being listened to there when it comes time to actually give birth!

caoraich · 24/07/2018 22:39

Wow sorry that was a bit of a rant, obviously needed to get it out somewhere Blush

unicornchaser · 24/07/2018 22:56

Yeah I'm glasgow too, I am in the queen Elizabeth (southern general)for the birth but have had a shocking midwife journey thus far! Only seen an actual midwife @ 10 weeks for my booking app then last week at 25 weeks. Was at a consultant at 16 weeks and not seeing another midwife until mid September now.
And I was southern hosp for the first app, community in pollock for second and will be the Victoria for the next one.
Said I feel like I've just been dumped and forgotten about and no one knows who I should actually be seeing!

Nurse at my gp is raging with it all and tbh I'm not best pleased at the lack of consistency or care when it's my first and I've no clue on it all!

unicornchaser · 24/07/2018 22:58

Can you not request a different hospital @caoraich for the birth?
Friend of mine was supposed to be the PRM but didn't have the best opinions of them so got it changed to QEU.....

I went for the Bebécar IP-OP evolution travel system. It’s beautiful

TinyTerror1 · 25/07/2018 08:33

caoraich, unicornchaser, milknosugar that all sounds frustratingly familiar. I saw two doctors yesterday - one because I'm under a consultant for my age and the other for the diabetes - and I didn't feel like either of them was listening to me, which made me frustrated, which meant I completely forgot to ask the things I actually wanted/needed to know and just meekly left the hospital feeling like I was wrong to trust my own judgement and was generally rubbish at this whole thing. I much prefer it when I see the midwives, even though I see a different one every time as mine is off sick (different doctor every time too).

On a related note, I looked in my green antenatal notes and it says 'Health visitor appointment from 28 weeks'. No one has mentioned anything about this to me, does it ring any bells with anyone?

@ATP1000 oooh!!! Thank you, that site looks dangerous 🙊

Think I’ve officially started waddling this week (30 weeks tomo 😬)

Mamami · 25/07/2018 14:55

I’m really trying (& failing) to keep up. Every time I sit down and start scrolling through the 3 year old or work calls! Can someone let me know if the FB group or WhatsApp gets off the ground?
Oh and for hose considering hypnobirthing it really is amazing. Even my complex in hospital, pinned down for monitoring, high-risk birth was improved. Smile

unicornchaser · 25/07/2018 15:05

@Belles86 I think I'm waddling most evenings now and I'm 'only' 26 weeks!

And getting told off my hubby for bending down to do stuff like load the washing machine etc cos the physio told me not to do that now (I have an unbalanced pelvis)

Feeling generally just fat and pretty useless 😆😩

I know a few have already but if you want to share your due date with everyone then send me it over and I will put together a new group with that as the opening post..... maybe also if it's a boy/girl/surprise too Smile

Yerp · 25/07/2018 15:11

Hey guys. I’m due 28th October. It can’t come soon enough! I’m so tired already!!

Mamami · 25/07/2018 15:26

Due the 6th. My first was nearly a week early though and will have my cervical stitch out at 36 weeks so fingers crossed I’m not waiting that long!

TinyTerror1 · 25/07/2018 19:33

@unicornchaser do you want it in a message rather than just in this thread?

ATP1000 · 25/07/2018 19:59

@unicornchaser, I can’t remember if you suggested the WhatsApp group or if it was someone else. I’m sorry I can’t find the original post.

If anyone has time to organise WhatsApp, should we private message mobile numbers for WhatsApp as well? I don’t know how it works, do you send a WhatsApp link or do you need our numbers?

It would be really nice to stay in touch with you all :)

This is the maternity pillow I use, I find it really good. Might not use it for the baby to sleep on as the mattress arrives folded and should be flat and sturdy but good for my sleep and sitting up in bed. £40 off at mothercare.

Due the end of September have told everyone its the first of October so hopefully they won't be looking for updates until at least then.
Very nearly 31 weeks. Space is getting cramped I feel bunched up at the desk at work. I can't get comfortable at home and the heartburn is starting to creep back in. I'm so tired too. Rant over. The house is getting worse and worse each week although dh is trying. On the plus side no waddling. Yet. Sorry to those that are.

This week I bought a baby towel and some dummies. More off the list Grin
