I’m creating this thread so that we can continue the October 2018 baby bus. Only one page left on ours and once it completes we can’t share this link so getting this done now .... all aboard!

@Hayleyxmx ok well my Pregnancy Encyclopedia - which is basically my bible lol - says if you are in the ideal weight range before pregnancy your ideal gain is 11-16kg in pregnancy.

It also says carbohydrates are essential. They are an important source of energy, fibre, iron and B vitamins. Also "If your body doesn't get enough fuel from carbs it begins to metabolise fat stores" which may release potentially harmful toxins. So if I were you I'd definitely chat to your midwife about this diet the doctor has put you on. GPs are not pregnancy experts and your midwife is, basically, so may have better advice.

Stars hi there! Im ok thanks, struggling with the heat and squished lungs but otherwise ok, 29 weeks today with a lil girl. How are you? I think bout you ladies sometimes n wonder how you are getting on xx

unicornchaser · 16/07/2018 16:47

Hi all, back home now after my holiday which wasn't actually as terrible as I saw it on that day. Was just a bit down at being at the water park and having to miss out on everything including getting kicked out the wave pool!
Glad of a bit of cooler weather in the uk now though! Down to 20-22 where I am for the next wee while.

I have my first midwife appointment tomorrow at 25 weeks (only saw a consultant at 16 weeks, which I know is a bit baffling especially with my first baby!) so not sure what happens at them? Can anyone advise?
Really hope I won't be weighed, think I've put on a good half stone+ thanks to the all inclusive eating!!

Thanks @milk, gives me a better idea of what to expect
Sorry to hear it's still too hot where you are! We really aren't cut out for that heat for as long as it has been now! My poor garden was looked like the Sahara but thankfully a full day of rain yesterday has put some life back into it a little!

If it's any relief I've read that the varicose veins caused by the pregnancy clear quite soon after baby. Probably not so comforting right now but hopefully this is the case for both you and @boringbetty!

unicornchaser · 16/07/2018 20:59

P.s no one ever told me how unglamorous pregnancy actually is! I feel genuinely gross and just fat. Not sure what the 'pregnancy glow' is people always talk about 🙄😆

Milk no pressure or swelling or anything just a big blue vein Envy

Unicorn that is a relief. I'm currently not shaving to try and hide it

I just want to glow not be a veiny whale Angry

RhiBee29 · 16/07/2018 21:33

I'm hoping the sheen from my clammy body is interpreted as a glow! I'm done with summer now, roll on autumn.

Just ordered a MAM breastfeeding set from Amazon for £30, includes a manual pump, 3 bottles, breast pads, nipple shields, really good value and I found the bottles to be really good with DS.

Hayleyxmx · 17/07/2018 07:48

@TinyTerror1 sound like a good book. I’m just cutting down on the fast food and going to try and eat more healthy until I see the mid wife on the 27th. I only went to the doctors for a fit to fly and came out feeling obese iv only sized up to a 10-12 🤔

@rhibee29 sounds like a good bargain. Mam is a really good reviewed brand. As a FTM I want to breastfeed but I know a few people who have really felt disheartened when they couldn’t do it (my mum being one) so I don’t what to set my heart on it so don’t know what to buy for the best yet. Also I’m still clueless about breastfeeding I’m currently trying to focus on one baby thing a week. This week is sleeping arrangements for baby 🙂

ATP1000 · 17/07/2018 11:48

Hi @haleyxmx. In terms of weight gain, I started at 74kg and am 88kg now but I put on the first 12kg in the first trimester and only a few in the second. I’m 5ft7, I’ve been doing a bit more exercise in the swimming pool which is helping but I’m not eating less, just being healthy along with crisps and ice cream which are what I really feel like eating! It sounds like your GP is going by the book rather than assessing you individually which is unfair as we are all different!
I’ve spoken to my midwife and she said I’m fine, if I was eating McDonald’s every day then she’d be advising me not to but otherwise it’s all within reasonable boundaries. Good luck with your appointment! I couldn’t survive without carbs, I’d be super shakey during the day.

Thanks @ATP most of mine came on in the 2nd trimester, ahh well hit the 2 stone milestone today as long as I can shift it when baby comes (fingers and toes crossed) lol 🙂

RhiBee29 · 17/07/2018 12:58

@Hayleyxmx I put so much pressure on myself to breastfeed, it turned into a nightmare as DS had cows milk intolerance and I had to give up all dairy, I lasted until 12wks but DS was still poorly and had to have prescribed formula in the end. I'm hoping it'll be more successful this time but if I can't do it I know that formula is just as good.

Hayleyxmx · 17/07/2018 13:17

@RhiBee29 ahh yeah that’s exactly why I’m trying not to get myself so pro breast. hopefully this time breastfeeding your little one will work out. I staying with the mindset of I can do breast great but if it doesn’t work out as long as baby is happy and healthy I’ll go formula.

ATP1000 · 17/07/2018 13:35

Has anyone tried the Jane car seats and pushchairs? We need a lie flat car seat as we travel between London and Birmingham regularly. It can do lie flat but not lie flat rear facing, these new rules coming in for rear facing mean I’m not sure what to do! Any advice appreciated 😊

has anyone bought a breast pump before they've tried BF'ing? I've got my eye on the Medela but don't want to drop £80 incase it doesn't work out...

HoneyMonster12 · 17/07/2018 13:53

I just cried at Bridget Jones baby, from the part where she gives birth until the end Grin these pregnancy hormones have me all over the place!

Filzma · 17/07/2018 16:13

About the breastfeeding, I couldn't last time. No milk. Zero. Tried pumping, 'feeding baby', eating foods that increase milk etc etc. Was so heartbreaking. I still feel like my body failed me but forgiven it lol.

I want to try this time but not sure what I can do to 'prepare'? WIBU asking for a prolactin test when I next see the midwife? I don't want to stress myself if I have low levels of prolactin. 😔

@HoneyMonster12 thanks for reminding me about Bridget Jones. Always wanted to watch it.

@HoneyCake86. Yeah I was thinking about you too! I'm 9.5 weeks! It took me long enough! I don't know if you remember Bubblybrit from the threads but she's pregnant too, around the same as me :-)

Filzma · 17/07/2018 17:54

@Milknosugar1 thanks. Have a MW appointment this Friday so will come back and update incase there's anyone out there ...

Doll87 · 17/07/2018 19:11

Can I ask, how much weight has everyone put on?

I'm so paranoid about weight i general and it has been a constant niggle of mine throughout this pregnancy. I'm 29+5 weeks and weighed myself this morn, I've put almost 2 and a half stone on. I'm still in my size 10 clothes but just feel like I've ballooned. My top half just feels huge. It's the main thing I moan about, even tho I know it's normal 🙈
