Also,
Can anyone help with a query?

I have another midwife appt in the morning for blood tests etc.
I’ll be 9 weeks and I know one of them is to check blood group but there are some other ones too. They didn’t mention (or atleast I can’t remember them mentioning) it being a fasting blood test.
What are the chances of it being a fasting one?
Should I not eat before, just incase. The appts at 9.30am x

@MagicalCreatures I can't remember in the UK but my blood tests here (I'm in Qatar) were fasting as they were testing my blood glucose.

I'd probably not eat if I were you and take something in my bag asking when I got there if it was fasting and if not be gnawing down on a cereal bar and banana!

balalalala · 24/05/2018 06:03

They would have told you if it was fasting.. The glucose tolerance test is normally much later on and is the only one I think of as fasting. The bloods they took at 9 weeks for me definitely weren't.

Mamababynumber2 · 24/05/2018 06:30

magicalcreatures I had the 2nd lot if blood tests. No need to fast.

MagicalCreatures · 24/05/2018 07:38

Thanks girls. I know for sure I’m not having the glucose test because the midwife said at my booking in appt that I wouldn’t need it unless I showed symptoms. X

@magicalcreatures the only fasting one I’ve ever had is the glucose tolerance test at 20 something weeks which I had to have as my dad is diabetic. All the others you shouldn’t have to fast. They test your blood type, iron levels and several things like hiv/syphilis amongst other delightful sounding things!

Gemsie1984 · 24/05/2018 09:00

So I caved and bought some baby clothes last week.. now I'm thinking I've tempting fate.. also looking at essentials like baby baths and Moses baskets etc.. is it really too early? As anyone else bought anything?

Stephisaur · 24/05/2018 09:06

@magicalcreatures it isn't a fasting test :) it's just a screening test for blood type and diseases :)

December2018 · 24/05/2018 10:19

I've bought a couple of little bits and bobs like babygrows and baby shampoo and oil and stuff, and a few blankets... I am keeping them in my mums tho won't have anything in my house until I have my scan next week and I see a little heartbeat, as soon as I've had it and everything is ok (hopefully) I'll start squirrelling things away lol

MagicalCreatures · 24/05/2018 10:26

Nope you were all right.
Not a fasting blood test.
It was a full blood count to check blood group, iron, diseases etc x

I bought all newborn stuff (ordered online) and realised I should've got 0-3 months as newborn only goes up to 7lb! My son was born weighing 8lb 8oz but my daughter was 5lb 8oz.. hope this one is in the middle!!

Happy32 · 24/05/2018 11:15

Got some babygrows and sleepsuits with a blanket, teddy but hiding at the back of wardrobe. Isn't it so strange how much we fret and worry? Part of nature I'm sure. Hope you are all feeling well!! I'm starting to get a bit excited now so I'm trying to reign it in lol how are you all feeling and dealing with symptoms?

December2018 · 24/05/2018 11:20

I've not been too bad.. had a random sicky fit before at the smell of the dogs biscuits lol I've been ok apart from that lol
Ohh and nosebleeds every 5 mins! 😂

Happy32 · 24/05/2018 11:29

Hahaha poor soul! Maybe don't sniff the the dogs biscuits anymore 😂😂😂😂😂 jokes! How far in are you now? I have my booking in this week and dating scan next week! Becoming more real now!

Cally80 · 24/05/2018 11:51

Never mind buying things for the baby! I have had to start buying new clothes for me - I am in my 11th week and all my trousers are very snug and uncomfortable! Shock
I am surprised, as I just assumed I would be in my normal clothes for at least another few weeks yet! I don't have a bump, but I kinda feel like I have changed shape, even though by boobs haven't grown any bigger yet.
Please tell me I am not alone...

GoldilocksTheGraceless · 24/05/2018 12:04

@Cally80 you are not alone! 😂 I have lost 10lbs through sickness but my trousers are now too small!!!! So unfair! I'm basically wearing maternity style dresses when I'm outside and then immediately in pjs or yoga pants when I step through the door. Anything tight is a no-no already and I'm only 9+4!

Happy32 · 24/05/2018 12:16

Yeah jeans are a go-to and my bust has failed to quadruple in size! Oh the things were told 😂😂😂

Happy32 · 24/05/2018 12:17

No-go*

December2018 · 24/05/2018 12:27

Ohh happy! I can smell a flys fart from at least half a mile at the min 😂

December2018 · 24/05/2018 12:28

Ohh and I'm 11 week today and I can't fit in anything!

MagicalCreatures · 24/05/2018 13:18

I’ve gained 2lbs so far. Thought It was 5 but think I was abit constipated that day 😂
But my god, I’m in leggings 24/7. I’ve said goodbye to all my jeans. Nothing is comfortable. I’m either definitely showing already (9 weeks today) or very very bloated. Or both.
Midwife today said it was totally normal though to gain a pound a week during the first trimester. X

OP posts:
Gemsie1984 · 24/05/2018 13:23

I've not gained anything so far but MS has been an issue for me. My clothes are okay, jeans baggy but I had a belly before pregnancy so really don't look different, can just see in my face that I've lost a bit of weight. It was 17lb but it's hit a plateau now so might start gaining.

Paranormalbouquet · 24/05/2018 13:24

I’m very bloated too. Can still tie up my high waisted jeans but not any lower waisted ones. Haven’t gained weight yet but really trying not to as BMI is 33 already. Usually it’s around 28 but I went a bit mad comfort eating through my miscarriages. Aiming to stay around this weight as long as possible but it’s so hard as all I want to eat is carbs at the moment!

balalalala · 24/05/2018 15:08

Scan all ok! Baby wouldn't oblige too much but they got what they needed in the end!

Stephisaur · 24/05/2018 16:33

@Cally80 I gave up the other day and bought maternity jeans. I'm 10 weeks! My regular jeans just will not stay up!

@balalalala yay congratulations!
