January 2019!

loopdeelou · 28/04/2018 11:02

I have recently found out I am pregnant and I believe baby would be due 6th January 2019. I know it is such early days, but are there any other Mums-to-be out there who have just discovered they are pregnant and who will be due next year? Sounds crazy saying that!...

That’s really rude! Nothing wrong with a January birthday.

stegosauruslady · 21/05/2018 07:59

Morning!

In some ways, yes, January isn't the ideal birthday...people skint from Christmas and its freezing. However, we don't have that much control over when we actually conceive and if we got rid of all of the not ideal months (December, January,July and August to avoid a summer born baby, any month where a close family member has a birthday) we would never conceive at all! I'd be left with only three ideal months of the year.

I'm six weeks today, feeling pretty sick and I don't have my booking appointment for another fortnight. I also have loads to do today as we spent the weekend partying until 3am then sleeping and doing sweet FA!

Januarybaby19 · 21/05/2018 08:49

@babit5485 That is so rude of the midwife! My EDD is 20th Jan and I’m really excited about our winter baby. Hopefully we can have a relaxing Christmas and then January is always freezing so I can’t wait for snuggling up on the sofa and not having to go out! I’m also already excited about the baby’s first Christmas when they will be almost one! I think it’s a great time! It is my first though, so I have the luxury of pre-birth rest, shout out to all the mums organising a family Christmas with a baby on board! Star

Frenchiemamax · 21/05/2018 09:48

trukevoli sorry to hear this Flowers

ohhellojo · 21/05/2018 10:11

Our EDD is Jan 2 and I’m really, really hoping it doesn’t come early. I work in retail/transport and there is no way I’d be able to get its birthday off work every year if it came before New Year. After NY noone wants a holiday so it’ll be easy to get time off!

ohhellojo · 21/05/2018 10:12

But I am stoked I get two years worth of Christmas’s off now 👌🏻🙌🏼 😂👌🏻

Upsydasiy · 21/05/2018 10:14

I’m really struggling with sickness over the last few days. Any tips or suggestions to help 😩

GruffaloPants · 21/05/2018 10:17

@Upsydasiy I wasn't too troubled by morning sickness with DC1 or DC2.
My theory is that because I'm diabetic I have to keep my blood sugar stable. So I'd suggest trying to graze on something to keep your blood sugar up e.g. dried fruit or biscuits. If you can't stomach any food maybe sweet tea/ginger tea with honey, or fruit juice.

Upsydasiy · 21/05/2018 10:30

Thanks @GruffaloPants I’m trying to keep nibbling throughout the day but over the last couple of days it’s been really bad. I’m struggling to keep food down and the thought of eating is making me wanna heaven when I already feel so crappy. Hoping this stage passes fairly quickly as not sure how keeping this secret and heaving is going to work!!

Maxbenji · 21/05/2018 10:46

Today I've alreadt had, apricot wheats, a banana, 2 shortbread squares, a doughnut and a cookie... really want to eat healthy but so hungry!

Also if any of you are on thyroxine let you doctor know as they should automatically increase it by 25mg.

Ohhellojo i'm the same, not too sure about actual edd but 1-5th Jan and really don't want a Dec baby! My dd is mid Nov and that's close enough to Christmas for me!

KimBeau · 21/05/2018 12:39

Hi everyone. I'm brand new to Mumsnet and excited to join this group! I'm 7+5 and due around 4 January. I found out I'm expecting our first baby 3.5 weeks ago and it's been a loooong few weeks. Time is crawling. I can't wait until our first scan on 20 June so have a private scan booked next week for peace of mind...and I'm really bloated so want to check there isn't more than one in there (twins in our families). Other than bloating and tiredness, I've been lucky with symptoms so far. Got my first pregnancy cold now, though, so feeling a bit sorry for myself!

loopdeelou · 21/05/2018 14:38

I have a cold too. Thought it was unrelated but now guessing it isn't. I've generally been feeling rotten all weekend and very sick so really struggling with work.

I have just booked an early private scan for next weekend. Am really keen to tell our families but just want to check all is okay first so decided to get a scan. I still have a while until my midwife app so it feels like the NHS scan might be a while away.

KimBeau · 21/05/2018 14:45

Yeah @loopdeelou, I've read quite a bit about how our immune systems are lower while pregnant because our body is focusing on the baby. So we can catch colds and bugs more often, and it might take us longer to get over them. So annoying!

Frenchiemamax · 21/05/2018 14:46

What is the earliest you can book a private scan for?

Ash1992 · 21/05/2018 15:01

I had a private scan at 6 weeks and all the lady could see was something faint what looked like a pregnancy sac all the early scans do is worry you I wish I never went. And waited a few more weeks

loopdeelou · 21/05/2018 16:12

I think you can go from 6 weeks @Frenchiemamax but I've booked mine for when I'm exactly 9 weeks. Didn't want to do it too early but it seems pretty common in America to have one at 8 weeks so hopefully there'll be something clear by then. My SIL has a scan at 7weeks due to a bleed and it's a pretty clear image even though it was really just a little blob at that point but she said she saw the heartbeat.

Main reason is we are flying to see DH's family the following weekend anyway so would love to be able to show them a picture and tell them. We won't see them again for ages so will have to tell them on the phone otherwise.

Frenchiemamax · 21/05/2018 16:47

Thanks ladies, might look into that in a few weeks then!

Ash1992 · 21/05/2018 18:41

Anyone had their first midwife appointment? What actually happens in the first appointment

GruffaloPants · 21/05/2018 18:52

I haven't had mine this time, but the previous times the appointment covered:

Bloods
Weight
Smoking
Drugs
Domestic violence
Any questions I had
Other stuff I can't remember

jellyfish2210 · 21/05/2018 19:04

I had mine today and she just asked me my entire medical history. Measured my BP, height and weight. Organised the referral for the 12 week scan, though she said that it might be as far away as 14 weeks for the scan. I'm in Scotland though so it might be different where you are

Ash1992 · 21/05/2018 19:09

Wow is 12 weeks the first scan I thought it was between 8-12 weeks for the first one

loopdeelou · 21/05/2018 20:38

12 is the ideal but I believe it's anywhere from 11-14.

helbel42 · 21/05/2018 21:44

I've just had an early scan today at 8 weeks, saw my little blob and got to see the heartbeat too. I feel better for doing it. X

January 2019!
KimBeau · 21/05/2018 22:15

Oh that's wonderful @helbel42! I'll be 8+5 when I have my early scan next week; am a little nervous but mostly excited. I had such an early booking-in appointment at 6+5 that I felt I needed something to break up the time until my 12w scan. I'm having my scan with Window in the Womb.

helbel42 · 22/05/2018 04:19

That's great @KimBeau, it definitely breaks the time up and I had a random fear it might be twins so wanted to confirm how many were in there! I haven't seen a doctor or midwife yet, told them at 4/5 weeks and my first appt isn't until 31st May so I'll be almost 10 weeks...... felt like such a long time to go without having confirmation that there is actually a baby from someone medical! x
