I reckon my bump now is about 4 weeks ahead of last pregnancy. It gets bigger through the day and I am wearing my stretchiest clothes and biggest jeans. Have also bought a couple of second hand maternity bundles as I didn't need summer things last time.

I spotted a colleague checking out my tummy today. I haven't told anyone but she's quite perceptive so I think she has put two and two together.

Expecto · 15/01/2018 21:59

@Peanut2017 I thought that was part of the perks of being a manager?! Having a bit more flexibility? Working remotely if need be...depends on your job I guess

Expecto · 15/01/2018 22:01

@Peanut2017 have a look at any handbooks or policies they have to deal with people going or coming back from maternity. Also check how what they’ve offered other women in the past.

amzq87 · 15/01/2018 22:08

Pleased to hear the good news @spydie - wishing you a speedy recovery :-)

peanut2017 · 15/01/2018 22:15

@Expecto you would think so but my direct line is a micro manager and wants updates on everything as she manages the team overall (her words). I don't have autonomy and she wasn't that keen on the few days I worked from home on last pregnancy when I got SPD. More or less told me that. Doesn't think people are working when in fact I get loads more done.

She's in from 7.30 to 7pm every day and then email outside of this. She just got married so hopefully her outlook may change but I thought it might once she was seeing this guy but it didn't

Can you imagine what they say when I tell them I'm pregnant - once all goes ok. They will spit fire at me.

Expecto · 15/01/2018 22:46

@Peanut2017 hmmm and your HR department sound useless too! What hours have you been contracted to do? That’s your starting point. I’m not entirely sure what she expects from this meeting? She needs to plan ahead, eventually you will be on maternity leave (fingers crossed)...does she think you will be turning up to work with baby in tow? Take that stance, say okay eventually I will be on maternity so will my work be delegated or will I get maternity cover. I will need time to train staff etc...then throw in flexibility where you think you can get away with it

Expecto · 15/01/2018 22:49

I say just go in there and give her the fright of her life 😂😂😂😂 and if she’s still being the evil b*tch from hell I’d raise a grievance

Hana327 · 15/01/2018 23:56

@E2017 I've been signed off work with Hyperemesis and I have to say the being at home has slightly got to me as I'm house bound. Have had a few crying episodes to DH. I'm hoping now at week 10 I start to feel better but I'm still sick as soon as I walk around!

I already made the jump and brought maternity jeans. Only one pair. Went with the thought that I doubt I will wear jeans in the height of summer so might as well get my use out of them now. I've found some other lovely items to buy as well but going to wait until after the scan!

Gizzymum · 16/01/2018 07:18

@peanut2017 you mentioned that HR said you need to be in the office when the people you manage are there, but also said your boss micromanages the entire team. I think you've sorted your own argument with HR - just say your boss covers the hours when everyone else is in and micromanages so no need for you both to be there all hours.
To be honest, having to micro manage and be there when your staff are is a sign of a rubbish manager anyway - can you argue that you want your staff to develop etc and you feel that you have to give them some freedom/unsupervised time to do so and to show you trust them? I'm not sure what area you work in so don't know if that's appropriate or not?

Mamfa18 · 16/01/2018 07:20

Hi guys I’m totally new to mumsnet and this is my first post event though I’ve been reading everything! I’m 27 pregnant with my first child, Engaged to my incredible fiancé who is 36 & probably the most supportive person every! (sorry don’t know all the lingo yet Blush) previous history of miscarriage. I am due August 4th so that makes me 11+3 ahhh!! I have had 3 scans already with EPU which was incredible seeing baby go from just a sack, to a little blob with a heart beat then to an actual baby shape!

I haven’t had my 12 week yet I’ve just moved it back a week as the lady who did my last one said it would be better for measurements.

I am being consultant led due to previous medical which I don’t know the difference anyway although she said I wouldn’t be allowed a water birth, which I challenged and she seemed to think this could be negotiable lol.

Really excited and overwhelmed, being pregnant is just the most magical and special feeling in the entire world! Congratulations to you all xxx

Gem173 · 16/01/2018 07:38

Welcome @mamfa18
Sorry to hear about your miscarriages but I hope this is your rainbow baby :)
8 weeks today (according to lmp) other than a few growing pains yesterday and sore nipples, I got zilch symptoms, hoping I’m just lucky!

Hope everyone has a good day whether at work or at home :) x

Tinks15 · 16/01/2018 07:46

Sorry I have been quiet for a while, I have been here just taking a back seat.
Glad all you ladies are ok. Getting through this tough trimester Flowers. I'm still waiting for my scan appt to come through I'm 11+4 now, rung & chased yesterday & she said I'm not on their system yet Angry but to call back at 12 weeks & they will sort something urgent if I'm still not on there by then. Jealous of all of you having scans. I had a couple of private ones with my DD & I've had nothing this time so getting impatient now.

Subo2018 · 16/01/2018 08:14

Wow there are so many of us! Welcome new comers and I hope everyone is doing well.
I've told work who have been really supportive I've got a private scan on Saturday and the NHS scan on 2nd Feb which I should be 13 weeks by then.
Def been quite emotional lately how's everyone else been?

amzq87 · 16/01/2018 08:22

Hey @Subo2018 - definitely emotional and also finding myself getting easily angry at the smallest thing so finding it hard to keep my cool at work sometimes lol! Other than that though, the sickness is dying down a little and I haven't been physically sick for 3 days now - a new record for me at the moment!

Hope they get your appointment sorted soon @Tinks15 - think I'd be on the blower everyday. They do say the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I've got mine and I'm 11+3 x

amzq87 · 16/01/2018 08:25

Also welcome @Mamfa18 - we have the same due date!! Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy xx

milney25 · 16/01/2018 08:31

@peanut2017 if I were you I'd put in a flexible working request. The law was changed exactly for this reason. Your employer is obliged to take the request seriously and respond with a real business case if they say they can't accommodate. I line manage quite a few staff and have had plenty of requests over the years, I've only had the grounds to refuse one. Being there to oversee your staff isn't a reason to refuse, many people successfully line manage remotely.

Mamfa18 · 16/01/2018 08:48

@amzq87 that’s so cool! Although I’m well aware due dates are probably the least likely dates for them to come haha!

I’m soooo lucky with my maternity leave, its just been changed from 14 weeks to 18 weeks full pay then stat! Altho next year it’s going up to 22 weeks full pay.

I’m mega lucky though I’m remotely managed so if I need to pop out for an appointment or take a half day no one really minds! Stat mat pay though that looks fun! Been saving every penny possible since I found out 2nd December!

milney25 · 16/01/2018 08:51

@amzq87 that is so bloody unlucky!!

I'll be in stat too, trying my best to save...and convince my DH to do the same...

peanut2017 · 16/01/2018 10:00

Thanks @Expecto @milney25 @Gizzymum

The text was just an informal let's meet for coffee kind of thing. It's more that I'm thinking should I bring up hours of work.

My contract is 39 hours but no one works that. HR are not great and I know from dealing with them to try and get support for my team they are overstretched.

When you mention flexible working @milney25 what does that refer to? I'm in Ireland so not sure if it's the same here.

If I could give it up I would but I'm earning the most out of me and my husband so can't not go back unfortunately.

I'm going to try and not tell them for as long as possible about this pregnancy although I look 5 months pregnant as didn't lose baby weight from last pregnancy.

My maternity cover was made permanent from the get go but she couldn't tell me exactly what she would be doing when I got back. It caused a lot of stress and strained out relationship greatly. Now however I'm delighted she was kept on as at least she will be able to cover again and knows the job much more now.

Gem173 · 16/01/2018 10:33

Just read in the news about a father who sexually abused his 13 month old daughter, and the way she was led down killed her because she couldn’t breathe.
I am absolutely disgusted and so angry. These people are sick and don’t deserve anything less than a prison sentence.
Sorry am very emotional about it, I would be absolutely devastated if that was my daughter :(

Stephiewoo · 16/01/2018 10:49

@Gem173 I know, words cannot begin to describe the fear these reports also put in our heads either, trust of our family, partners, who looks after our children.
Even day to day in my job I hear and see horrific neglect, abuse and the sheer disbelief of what some children in our society deem to be normal behaviour from their parents, family, siblings is unthinkable. Absolutely unthinkable. I'm unsure the media should expose the detail they do, they can do what they want. These cases are rare, they are reported more in the media which doesn't give a true view of the issues surrounding parental abuse. 😳😔😭

Emmasmum2013 · 16/01/2018 10:59

Hi everyone! Not been around much lately sorry so just catching up on the new thread!
Glad to see we’re all getting along nicely and our group is growing! :)

My morning (and all day and night) sickness got the better of me and I went to the drs. She prescribed me tablets which have taken the edge off the sickness. I’m still very nauseous a lot of the time but rarely sick now. But they make me so drowsy!! The dr signed me off work for a week as well so I’ve mainly just been lay on the couch. It’s been a nice rest to be honest haha!

Had my booking appointment last week and there’s no concerns so next appointment will be the 12 weeks scan on the 15th feb! I can’t wait!!

TinoTheArtisticMouse · 16/01/2018 11:11

I've not been around much either, as I simply have nothing to report.
I actually went back to read mn an thread from when I was the same stage with dd1, and I commented that I was ravenous, nauseous, exhausted and had a dodgy gut - exactly the same this time, so that's reassuring!
Booking appointment this Friday, then hopefully get a scan date through quickly.
8+4

BunBunMum · 16/01/2018 15:35

I’m feeling awful today. I’m 7+6 and not sure if it’s sickness starting or just today....I slept badly and Ds got me up at 5:30 and we had to be put the house by 7:30 for his allergy appointment. He’s in nursery this afternoon and I had loads planned for my afternoon of annual leave but I’ve slept and sat on the sofa as I feel so rough...fingers crossed I feel better tomorrow

milney25 · 16/01/2018 16:22

Ah @peanut2017 it might be different in Ireland. That's probably England and Wales law.

Can I those that are already mums...I'm reading about lower abdomens 'popping' which I assume means sticking out!! Should I be worried it's not happened at 12 weeks?! Also, i was really crampy and now I'm not. I'm literally counting the hours until my first scan.
