Oh and I could definately use some help on boys names. We really struggle as we have very different opinions and i think its much harder to find nice boys names. here is our shortlist and I'd really appreciate brutally honest comments to help us decide!

Patrick - to be called Paddy. Started off as a bit of a joke this one but has really grown on me. Usually prefer to have a name that doesn't get shortened but our rational is that if he wanted to apply for a high flying job Patrick might be a safer bet. Not sure though that Paddy isn't too much of a joke name - what do you think?

Ben - we LOVE this but think it might be a bit dicey with our surname beginning with T (BenT).....

Adam - nice safe proper boys name but doesn't light fires for me. Dh's fave.

Matt - ditto above with Adam and I also have a bit of an issue with door-mat!

HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!!!

FloriaTosca · 04/06/2007 08:29

I agree that boys names are harder..I've got a list a mile long of girls names I love (which, considering that I went to an all girls senior school so have unfavourable recollections of many names, isn't bad) but boys names I've got very few of that I really love and most of those have already been used up by my family; Allan, Callum (my fav.), Declan, Nicholas, Simon/Simeon and Phillip...
Alicet, I like Adam best of the ones you mention ...but then again I think it is memory of the people you know who you connect with those names that puts you off (not fair on everyone else who shares it I know)...There was an Adam in my junior school who was just gorgeous! I knew a Matt I didnt like so can't connect well with that one and as for Ben;(going to an all girls school) I had to sing a line from Josephs Technicolour Dreamcoat, "Benjamin, you nasty youth, this crime has shocked me to the core!" I'd never be able to call a child of mine that because every time it misbehaved that line would come to mind!!! though its a lovely name and the 2 Bens I know are great people .
I agree that you should give the child the full name even if you dont intend using the whole version yourself ( you never know what profession they may go into)
Just to give you a laugh some of the names that have been suggested to me have been; Maudacai !!!! and Isembard!!!!...just because I said that 3 syllable first names sound better with a 2 syllable surname like ours!!!

alicet · 04/06/2007 08:40

Cheers floria! I love Callum too but dh doesn't agree... Boo!

alicet · 04/06/2007 08:42

Def agree though that you associate the names with people you know and it can make a big difference to how you perceive them! My mate who is a teacher had a really difficult time choosing a name for her dd as nearly every one she thought of she associated with a child she had taught!

alicet · 04/06/2007 08:51

Good luck to Winniethepooh and HMP with scans today!

honeyapple · 04/06/2007 09:02

Hi-
Alicet- I'd go with Paddy- really like it . Ben is a great name- but how many Bens are there? Masses...Your DS will be forever Ben T.

Sorry to hear that people have had trouble with BF in the past- definitely don't let this stop you trying again. All babies are different, and second time around EVERYTHING is easier IMO.

I'm getting a bit worried that all my family are hoping for a boy this time (already have one of each, but DS is not biological son of DP)... also there are LOTS of girls in our family. Worried that I will be a little bit disappointed if it's a girl. This is really stupid I know. Just not sure how I am going to feel about it. Oh well, still ages for me until my scan.

Who is next for scanning??

alicet · 04/06/2007 09:27

I don't think its stupid to feel disappointed. You can't control how you feel. I think better to acknowledge your disappointment and get over it (which you will I am sure) than pretend you're pleased because everyone expects you to say that. Doesn't mean you will love your lo any less once he / she arrives.

Thanks for name comments too! I think Paddy is probably my preferred one at the moment (having initially thought ds had a screw loose when he suggested it!). Who knows though - both of us being a bit indecisive about this one!

j20baby · 04/06/2007 09:27

hi everyone, good luck for those with scans today.

i was doing my garden yesterday, my dad came down to cut all my hedge and i did lots of bending and lifting, so was shattered last night, also got sun burn on my shoulders and the top of my back, so a bit sore today!

i've took the day off work so me and dd can go do something together, she wants to go to an indoor play centre, but i told her that its not fair because i can't go down the slides although the weather doesn't look too great, so not sure what we're going to do yet.

hmp - you need to listen to your body, if you feel you need to rest, then you should

jersey - yep i live in the wonderful town of Hull, in the East part, don't really know many of the other areas, as i moved here from out of town when i was 16 and haven't really ventured to any of the other parts.

i love the name Paddy, but all the others are quite nice, i don't know what your all on about!, i can think of loads of boys names but i can't think of any girls names that really go with my last name which begins with D and is only one syllable. here's a few of my maybes, but none of them really jump out at me, Carmody( i found this in a book, it was someone's last name) Kadie, Amber-leigh, Liliana(shortened to Lilly), i want something pretty but unusual(ish) i had a dream the other night that i'd called her Havana, but i don't know if i made it up in my dream! any suggestions would be appreciated

anyway, i'd better get dressed and decide what we're doing, have a lovely day everyone x

We are now torn between Ben (benjamin) and Max for names now, I think we will just wait to see what suits him best I really like Oliver too but my mum has a dog called Oliver.

If it was a girl she was going to be called Charlotte Eleanor. I also love the name Amber for a girl but DH was dead set against that one. I did want Isabella if it was a girl but my SIL beat me to it and called my niece Isabel. I also really liked Sophie but you just know they are going to be known as soph for evermore

A work colleague called his two girls Amelie and Kamara both a bit more unusual.

It is a definitely a hard choice to make

Tallis · 04/06/2007 09:41

Yippeeeee! All was fine at our 20-week scan and the relief is incredible. We came over to UK for it and my mother doesn't have a computer so had no chance to post our good news until now.

I didn't want to know the sex though DH was quite keen...he claims to have looked hard for evidence of a boy and couldn't find any (there again, it might just take after Dad ) so he's decided we 're having a girl. But really, we have no idea.

We did get given some really weirdy 3D-ish pix that made our poor babe look like a cross between a suffocating goldfish and Homer Simpson. Eyes popping out of head like a gargoyle...I shrieked and the scanner laughed and said not to worry, they all look like that at this stage. Only a computer image etc etc. Hmmm. Certainly couldn't show that to the doting grandparents-to-be.

Went on a tour of the hospital on Sun afternoon and suddenly it all seems a lot, lot more real. Now going to scour Ebay for electric breast pumps etc. Could it be that the Oct mums will be viciously outbidding each other?? That would never do...

Tallis · 04/06/2007 09:45

Good Luck Winnie and Honor for your scans today

PolarMummy · 04/06/2007 10:59

Hello everyone! it has just taken me all morning to catch up on the thread I am having a nice day off work relaxing, I had a group of about 25 9 & 10 year olds away for the weekend so there weren't many chances for rest. I do it about once a year and love it, wouldn't miss it if I can possibly avoid it

Glad the scans have gone well so far and good luck to those you have theirs coming up.

I am of those who have been buying things which is silly I know because the only stoppping me buying stuff is me! But for me I just feel it is a bit early yet think I will wait another few weeks and then go out and enjoy myself

buffythenappyslayer21 · 04/06/2007 11:48

hi everyone.

glad everyone that has been on hols has had a nice time (apart from the french weather!!!)

been to see mw today.had a very annoying pg woman in the waiting room give me her full life story, including all her 4 childrens dads and how crappy they treated her and how lovely her new man is.got the full details of her thrush infection that wont go away and was so happy to see the mw i couldve kissed her!!!god that woman drove me bonkers!!i know she was just probably wanting to chat, but she went into some very personnal details that i would only share with my close friends not a complete stranger in a waiting room!

anyway,lo is fine, heartbeat was nice and fast.mw rang and made my appointmnet for the glucose test (30th july)dont like the sound of it at all!!have to be there for 9am (which means leaving home at around 7.30am)have bllod taken, get given glucose drink and then water to drink, can wander around the hospital for 2 hours or wait in the unit, and tehn have blood taken again.have asked my mum if she'll come and look after the kids so taht i dont have to take them all with us (its school hols then!)

shes referring me to the hospital for physiotherapy, thank god!my pelvis feels like its crumbling!!

asked her about IBS,and she said from the symptoms i had it does sound like it,but to go to gp for proper diagnosis.told her ive avoided white bread and dairy and have been fine,so she said just to stick to it.

bp was 120/70 but she said its ok.

told her how tired ive been getting and she just said "you can expect to be tired, your pregnant!" i thought she might say she'd check my iron levels but no,she gave me a form to have my blood taken to test my thyroid at the hospital when i go for my scan on thursday.(got very bad veins so have to go to the vampires at bangor!!)

anyway, hope those with scans today go ok!getting very excited about mine now!!

alicet · 04/06/2007 12:25

J20 I like Liliana best on your list. Our fave girls names were Amy and Chloe which aren't very exciting but we like them! My personal faves were Polly and Phoebe but dh vetoed because Polly is an ex and (I quote) 'I don't what to be thinking about someone I've shagged when I look at my daughter' - fair point I guess! And he hates phoebe with a passion.

Mrs Fish I love Max but dh vetoed that too - can't remember the reason for this one!

Tallis really happy scan went well!

Buffy - what is it about people that think just because you're both pregnant you're interested in every intimate detail about their life even though you don't know them from adam!! In fact I have had complete strangers ask me questions like what sort of delivery do I want, how am I feeling and can they touch - you'd never do that normally would you so what is it about being up the duff that makes you public property!! A very strange one!

alicet · 04/06/2007 12:26

Oh and polar hope you enjoy your relaxing day after such a manic weekend!

Pheebe · 04/06/2007 13:08

Hello everyone

Not that you noticed my absence but I'm back after a hideously busy 10 days. I work for myself and never go anywhere from one week to the next but last week ended up having to go onsite 3 days in a row! Then we had a busy but fab weekend with DS at chester zoo then out in the garden. I love being a family

I've skimmed through so sorry if I miss anyones important news. [hugs] for all of you who've had a tough time of late but hey, we're half way there!!! EJT, had to comment on you! So so glad all went well with the scan, how terrifying for you.

Alls going well for me at the mo, no more 'leakages' and bub is wriggling round like a footballer. DH can't feel it yet but as I still have a big overhang (sorry TMI!!!)from DS1 I'm not surprised. Still another week to wait for my scan yet...

Weird dreams are kicking in again, last night I dreamt I was breast feeding and this morning boobs are aching like mad! Mind you could be down to the erm bedroom action I had ... DH can't believe his luck at the moment as since they had stopped aching he could erm well you know have em back for a bit as it were.

Really jealous of you all buying stuff, DS is not quite 3 yet so most of his stuff will get recycled. Think we just need a new changing table, the adaptor seat for the E3 and thats it Have told DH that if we're having another boy I'm still goingt o buy some new clothes though as I would have hated all hand-me-downs. He just rolled his eyes.

Right best get back to work. Are we changing to a new thread soon? I fear this one may collapse under the weight of our gossip???

Pheebe · 04/06/2007 13:09

ooerr don't know what that link sposed to be...please don't try it god knows where you'll end up. Was sposed to be {{{hugs}}}

HonorMatopoeia · 04/06/2007 13:35

Oh my God! An hour till my scan and I'm petrified, even though I can feel baby doing the limbo in my tum as I type!
To find out or not to find out - this remains the question.....
I'm waffling, I'm nervous, I'll go!!!!

alicet · 04/06/2007 14:35

HMP all the very very best that your scan brings good news! have to say there's no way I could have not found out as I am far too impatient!!! Maybe get them to put it on abit of paper in an envelope if you're not sure then you can check later if you like?

Glad to hear all well Pheebs and you've had a good 10 days - very good from the sound of it!!!!!

alicet · 04/06/2007 14:36

Actually just realied you've probably had your scan by now HMP - hope all was well!

Have updated list with my result from today. I will need another scan at 36 weeks as the placenta is currently covering the cervix. Hopefully it will move by then or I will need a C Section. Could not get a clear picture of the whole baby as she was wriggling about too much, but I got a fantastic picture of her face with the eyes closed.

Good luck to everyone with scans soon.

Pheebe · 04/06/2007 17:04

Hi Winnie

I hear these placentas wriggle around all over the place so fingers crossed for you. 36 weeks seems such a long way away yet.

HonorMatopoeia · 04/06/2007 17:05

Hi all, thanks for your well wishes, all was fine, sonographer was great and took ages explainingg everything to us. Looks like we're having another little girl (or at least sonographer said he could see no obvious little boy bits!. Haveto admit I'm really made up, always wanted to say 'my girls'!!
