it tells you next to where yoy add your message how to do them, i only learnt yesterday!

been to see my gp today, he couldn't find the heartbeat even though he tried for ages, but he could here the placenta working, i rung the antenatal clinic and they said to pop in today or tommorrow, it will have to be tommorrow after work now, am a bit worried, but the mw said don't worry too much as gp's aren't normally too great at finding the heartbeat anyway.

hi to all the new people

Good day all! Quick post so I can find this thread again. Very tired today as dh and I sat up discussing wills - being a parent makes you very responsible all of a sudden! Also, ds is in our room at the moment as we have Polish decorators staying and he woke me up a couple of times - why do I have to be such a light sleeper!?!?! - before getting up for the day at 06:00. Can't post much, but will catch up tomorrow, hopefully!

Welcome and congratulations to the newcomers...

ejt1764 · 26/04/2007 17:34

Tallis, I didn't buy any special clothes for ds - I just learned really early on which shops to avoid - for instance - gap clothes are cut really small...

I found the best in terms of bum size in trousers were:
vertbaudet / la redoute (the catalogue) - their trousers are cut huge !
h&m - trousers always cut really generously
adams - ditto.

It meant that ds wore the same trousers for about 15 months - as when he came out of nappies he could go 'down' a size in trousers!

MrsFish · 26/04/2007 18:51

Right, will see you all on sunday as am off on my hols now

asur · 26/04/2007 19:12

Just a quick post - need to go restock the freezer with food for DS so kitchen is a bit of a mass of pots full of lovely (?) meals...

the pillow I got from Ikea was this one - cheaper than the other link posted but seems to work!

as for the nappies - I use nappy nippas too (as mentioned by someone else) much easier than pins, especially on wriggly toddlers! And the study that said there wasn't any environmental difference between reusable or disposable - that was based on washing with powder and tumble drying. I wash with eco-balls and very rarely tumble dry. Plus the real bonus is that they don't smell as bad as disposibles - they seem to have some chemical that makes pee smell really bad, IME anyway!

As for clothes - I've never had any problems with any clothes that DS has worn. Sometimes takes a little extra effort to get trousers up/over the nappy but not really an issue.

I'm biased though - love my terries! (sad, I know!)

Hope everyone is well. xxx

loads of bleeding today & off to the hospital. Scan ok but on bed rest. dh at work tomorrow & have to look after 1yr old plus collect kids from school (unless I can find another mum but my three friends are away)

I'll call my doctor tomorrow to see if I can get an appointment as they said my cervix was abit dilated but with 4 kids this wasn't unusual.

Pheebe · 27/04/2007 08:24

Hi Maisy
Hope you're feeling better. Did they give you any reason why you might be bleeding from the scan? Good to hear LO's OK anyway. Take it easy and take good care of yourself.

Whats the sketh with EDDs? I now have 3, mine (2 Nov), NHS scan which took all of 2 mins (26 Oct, which is the one on my notes) and one from NF scan (31 Oct). I'm a bit concerned cos on my notes it says I 'agreed' to the 26 Oct date which I didn't they just told me. I want to go with the NF dating as she spent so much more time doing it and every measurement she did gave the same result. Can I just change my EDD on my notes or do I have to get consultant to agree? I'm only concerned as DS was 5 days late and they threatened to induce me with him so the later the EDD the less chance they'll have to induce me.

honeyapple · 27/04/2007 08:41

Hi,
Maisy- hope you are feeling better. That must be very worrying for you. Glad to hear babe ok though.

Asur- I dont own a tumble drier so was hoping to just air dry reusables... I'm glad to hear you dont use one very often. I know you can get some nappies made of materials that dry quicker than others...

Pheebe- I wouldnt worry too much about the EDDs. They arent wildly different. I am surprised that they threatened to induce you just 5 days after EDD. Did you have other problems? ie high blood pressure? I went a good 10 days after EDD with DD and had a date for induction, but then went for a sweep and everything started from there.
My nuchal scan gave a slightly earlier date than LMP, but I am staying with the LMP date as I am pretty sure I know when I conceived.

I fell off a ladder the other night- whilst painting bathroom. Still worrying about it- sore bum too. I fell into the bath . Feel very silly and cross with myself about it. I hate not being able to do things.

Hope all is well with everyone else. xx

Pheebe · 27/04/2007 09:05

Hi Honey

Ouch, falling into the bath doesn't sound fun. I think if you'd done any damage you'd know about it by now though. NO MORE LADDERS lol

I did have slightly high bp with ds and some sugar in urine, maybe that was why.

All the talk of nappies has set me thinking, I'll be looking in to cloth ones too now

J20BABY · 27/04/2007 09:21

poor you honey, and definately no more ladders.

well i had to ring in sick to work today as dd is apparantly ill

hoping that i can get my friend to come sit with her, while i pop to the hospital so they can try and find the hb, wish me luck, will post when i get back

Hello everyone...hope you are all ok, sorry ive not posted for ages.

I use cotton bottoms and Onelife reuseables for DS...they are both good...my DH prefers the onelife ones though as they are v. easy...shaped like a disposable and with poppers...i think both are easy to use though. (onelife and motherease are virtually the same too)

I do think the shaped ones (onelife and motherease) are a bit better for stopping poo leakage though,,,esp the early milk only fed poo. sorry if TMI. Disposables worse for poo leakage too.

There is a website called Littlelamb that will send you a free nappy to sample..these are shaped velcro ones which i also like.

Re drying...i dont have a tumble drier and have no probs although tis better in the summer obviously when they can go on the line. Cottom bottoms excellent for drying fast.

Personally dint get on with terries...found them bulky although now ds is bigger might be better so maybe i should retry. Have never had a problem with clothes fitting over nappies either.

The other thing i really like is that pooeydisposables absolutely stink, even when in a nappy sack...you cant have them in the house and the oputside bin must be disgusting, especially if you have a fortnightly collection...with reusesables poo goes straight down the loo, where it's meant too!

Defo would recommend re-useables, v. easy to use and a couple of extra loads of washing per week thats all. I do use disposables if out for the day or away so have a good comparison of both.

Anyway sorry to rattle on!!

J20BABY · 27/04/2007 09:38

thanks for the info hairy, its really been helpful to me actually. do you know how i would get my free one from littlelamb?

OP posts:
thehairybabysmum · 27/04/2007 10:04

cant see the free offer on their website any more im afraid (sorry should have checked before posting)

they do have a trail pack of nappy, wrap and fllece liner for £8.50 though which is a bargain though i reckon (i dont work for them honest).

trial pack

this website should help you find out if your local council has an incentive scheme plus has lots of other general info.

real nappies

i think your local NCT would be worth getting in touch with as they often have trial packs of different types to lend out.

My top tip (given to me by a friend) is to not use them during the first 6 weeks as you are more likely to fail then...lots of changes in early weeks plus you are still getting grips with everything anyway, wait til you are a bit more settled in with the baby.

Mumpbump · 27/04/2007 10:29

Morning all! Can't believe how quickly this thread moves...

Mrs Fish - have a great holiday!

Pheebe - whatever due date they use, you can always refuse an induction anyway so as long as YOU keep in mind the due date you think is correct, you can work on that basis anyway...

Honeyapple - dh won't let me climb up ladders at the moment. I was up a scaffold tower last weekend to paint the outside of our house and realised how high it was - unfortunately, not high enough though! - so have now said I will stay off anything higher than a stepladder. Just not worth the risk!

Maisym - pleased to hear all is okay. It must have been very scary to have a bleed. At least you got to see the baby again!

Everyone - I am dead impressed at the commitment to reusables. I was going to use them with ds, but when he was tiny and going through 12 nappies a day, I couldn't face it; now he is at nursery so he only has a nappy first thing in the morning and last thing at night and I don't want to put him in reusables last thing at night in case he gets wet and wakes up. I did read that the energy differential is virtually nil, but didn't realise that was on the basis that you tumble-dried the nappies. Will have to give it more thought...

Really pleased the weekend is almost here and our decorators are almost gone... Ds can go back in his own room tonight so I should get a better night's sleep!!

Apricott · 27/04/2007 12:02

Anyone else having trouble adding to this thread?

I just tried to give you all a link to the environment agency's nappy report, but it jsut disappeared when I pressed post message.
At risk of beginning to sound like an apologist for disposables - their working assumption was that only 19% of nappies were tumble-dried.

J20baby and maisym - thinking of you and hope everything is ok.

Pheebe - same re dates for me. MW assured me she'd fight my corner in event of threatened induction based on their date rther than mine.

J20BABY · 27/04/2007 15:52

hi all been for a quick scan and they found the hb just fine! felt a bit silly, as they said it was a 'reassurance visit' and looked at me as though i was neurotic! it was my gp that made me panic. anyway, saw it giving me a few punches and kicks, am slightly unimpressed that it seems to have the exact same shape head of its biological father's(think i'll call him the sperm donor from now on ) and was hoping it wouldn't look too much like him, poor thing.

anyway, was feeling all relieved and popped to the post office to pick up a parcel, i had to park in a heavy goods vehicle bay, waited in the queue, glanced out the window, and there was a traffic warden about to give me a ticket! so i sprinted out to the car, screeching 'noooooo', anyway he let me off, but was shaking for ages, forgot i shouldn't really be running so that was me all worked up again!

i've looked at the website, and i can't find anywhere in my area that offers an incentive scheme for reusable nappies, but i should be getting the 2 starter kits i ordered from Boots soon, so will see how i go with them.

i've got a viewing on a house on Monday, so hopefully will be moving soon, am going to start packing tonight me thinks

hope everyone is ok, and maisy hope your bleeding has ceased.

sorry for the ramble, must be the hormones

J20- Glad to hear all ok with baby.

honeyapple · 27/04/2007 16:16

Just been looking at the October stats thread...

Champs- 3 boys already heh! I bet everyone is irritating you by going on about having a girl! I know it would annoy me.

Pheebe · 27/04/2007 17:38

Thats great news J2O and don't feel guilty for needing reassurance, thats what the NHS is there for after all

maisym · 27/04/2007 19:34

hello all - thanks for all your thoughts xxx

still resting with legs crossed. Have a hospital check on monday plus I'm taking progesterone. Don't know what caused the bleeding (it was a lot) - will hopefully know more on monday. Have total bed rest this weekend after resting thursday & looking after little ones today (dh home early & took over everything as soon as he arrived). Hard with four kids to have bed rest - only the weekend is possible - but must say that dh is really doing his bit.

Have had to stop bf because of the medication. ds asked to bf today & I had to tell him there was no more - both very sad but had a cuddle.

hope everyone is ok xxx

ejt1764 · 27/04/2007 19:54

Evening all - well, my fisrt week back at work went well (although I had to excuse myself several times from my lessons today to go and be sick - just v. tired, I think)

maisym - sorry to hear about bleed - hope everything settles down. try to take it easy!

Pheebe - you can change your dates on your notes yourself - I had the same prob with the induction thing with ds - was pressured into an induction as their dates said I was 12 days over edd ... my dates said I was 1 day over edd ... I was told not to be so silly, and that scan was morereliable - this time around, I'm going to fight my corner - the induction took 4 days - when ds was finally born, he weighed just 7lb3oz - and more to the point did not look in the slightest bit 'overcooked' ... I'm going to be a bit more bolshy this time around!

honey - please look after yourself ...

j20 - glad all's well ... sperm donor

hairy - I'd echo the advice about leaving it a few weeks before getting into reusables - my ds was doing up to 14 poos a day (yes, a day!) for the first 6 weeks - I was constantly having to change him - and don't think I could have coped with washing the nappies (I would have had to have washed every day ...)

mumpbump - sleep well!!

apricott - agree on the reusables thing - but many people don't use them because of environmental reasons (daft as it seems) - I just hated the smell of the usual disposables ... I also used moltex disposables for ds at night, and when we were away - they don't have as high a concentration on chemicals in them, and can be put in the compost bin (didn't get quite that organic!) - and more importantly (as far as I'm concerned) they don't smell so bad!

Have a good Friday night everybody!

ejt1764 · 27/04/2007 19:55

about you having to stop bf maisy ... hope you manage to rest up... try to enjoy being waited on! Thinking of you!

honeyapple · 27/04/2007 21:04

Evening,

Maisy- Keep those feet up! Hope your DS is ok with stopping bf... but TBH I am surprised you have managed to be PG and bf to this point already. Isnt it a BIG strain on your body to do both? I stopped bf my DC at 1yr, I can't imagine bf and being PG at the same time (also I didnt have any periods at all when I was bf). I know women do both- I just think they must be KNACKERED!! I knew a lady who was bf her newborn baby and her 18 mth DS at the same time. She looked completely exhausted the whole time .

No climbing up ladders for me today. However I really want to get into the loft and DP is not here. DS said he would hold the ladder for me... Don't worry! I'll wait till DP back .

asur · 27/04/2007 21:26

Hi all,

Maisy - hope you feel better soon. I feel really sorry for you that you had to stop bf. I'm still bfing DS and I would be so upset if I had to stop, especially suddenly. Hopefully if you're not on the medication long, you can start again!? Good luck.

As for the nappies; I can see the logic about leaving it a few weeks before starting, but I think if you do that, you have to be careful - lots of people end up just getting into the habit of disposables and never use the reusables they bought (check out ebay and you'll see lots of BNWT nappies, bought in good faith but never used) Just my opinion though (I'm quite cynical so feel free to ignore me!)
