Sorry Winnie, meant to say, congratulations on a healthy baby and I'm sure your placenta has plenty of time to move off your cervix- fingers crossed for you x

alicet · 04/06/2007 17:44

Great news on both scans! Haven't counted but girls seem to be outnumbering the boys by quite a lot so far!

Hi everyone - that's great that all the scans seem to be going well. Winnie, here's hoping your placenta will move in time. Mad to think we're half way there! I've got two next week, one cardiac one (my DS has a hole in his heart so they're keeping a tight check on this one) and then the usual one at the hospital. Fingers crossed. I was just wondering whether anyone is planning an elective or has been advised to do so? Seems I am being and to be honest asm fine about it, but just wondering if anyone else is??
And yes, totally agree boys names are SO much harder - love Ben for those considering that one,(DH is Benedict) but am struggling to find others I like and can use (my family is enormous and boy heavy). Quite tricky to get something which is unusual without being over the top and traditional but not old fashioned - how is it that girls names are so easy! have a good evening everyone.

MrsFish · 04/06/2007 19:31

Congrats on the scans, blimey another two girls, this is looking like the september thread they have more girls too. The surprises must be boys

HonorMatopoeia · 04/06/2007 19:57

Nellie - I'm in two minds about the elective route. Consultant said that we'd discuss it in more detail at my 36 week appointment. They are willing for me to try vbac but it will depend on the position of this lo. Had problems with a long labour with dd and then her heartbeat dipped so had to have emergency c section last time. They thought this may have had something to do with her being back to back in the womb. That's a really long way of saying nobody really knows whether I'll be opting for elective yet!!

alicet · 04/06/2007 19:57

nellie do you mean an elective section? If so I might be. Had an emergency one with ds and so I have the choice. had actually progressed really well so they are optimistic i would manage plus the reason for the section isn't there anymore. But not sure!

nellieloula · 04/06/2007 20:04

I've been offered a vbac too but they seem to think it may end in a c-section anyway, so I think i may as well have an elective and plan it. Do you know if you can have the equivalent of a birth plan for an elective? The last one was an emergency, like something from ER, and everyone is keen to avoid that - just wondering if you can make requests?? eg that the baby is passed to you first (unless there are problems etc)If anyone knows, I'd love to hear.

HonorMatopoeia · 04/06/2007 20:10

As far as I know the fact you go elective does not affect your right to a birth plan. I'm in a similar situation and I'm going to note in large red letters that I want skin to skin contact even after (or as safe as is possibly after!) a c section!!

alicet · 04/06/2007 20:11

Absolutely you can have a birth plan. I have been sent one by another mumsnetter that you can have if you CAT me. Also there is a book that has some great suggestions in it - will try and remember the name and get back to you!

alicet · 04/06/2007 20:12

if you scroll down through this thread to about 10-14 days ago i had recommended it to someone else - I think HMP? Also put in a few web links to helpful sites

HonorMatopoeia · 04/06/2007 20:14

Ooo, alicet, could I be cheeky and CAT you for that birth plan too?

alicet · 04/06/2007 20:26

Course you could!

j20baby · 04/06/2007 20:28

wow, this thread have moved fast, congrats on 2 more girls!!!

well, i'm shattered, my dd decided the day out she would most prefer was............baby shopping can you believe! so we spent all day looking round mothercare and toys r us, oh and i accidently acquired another pram! i was thinking last night that i wish i could have a rear facing pram when lo is tiny, and this morning dd said someone her dad knows had offered us one, so we popped in while we where out and i got a mamma's and papa's one with carrycot and seat thingy with raincovers..etc, the lady didn't want anything for it, but i gave her a tenner just as a token gesture, so spent this evening taking it apart to wash it and now have it in my living room next to my urban detour! i'm waithing for all the kittens to go to there new homes so that i can get on with doing the baby's room, as i've shut them in there because they where driving me crazy! i've decided i'm probably going to get this for the nursery, i know everyone says buy seperately, but it seems like quite a good deal, compared to buying mismatching stuff

i am shattered after all the walking about, so think i'll go for a bath and to bed early

sorry for the ramble, we definately need to start a new thread soon!!

Great to hear of 2 more good scans...I'm sure your placenta will get out of the way soon Winnie.
My news of the day is that I've finally been made "officially" pregnant at last!. Because of my previous history they have been delaying my booking in appointment to save me heartache, but finally they made me legal today, it makes me feel like they finally feel that we have a chance this time ...though the little beggar didnt wake me with his/her usual spin about this morning and the doppler didnt pick up the heart beat (my fault I've not charged it in a fortnight! )so I was somewhat worried before the hospital check up this morning..but everything appears fine; my BP is 120 over 70, not too bad, water works clear, lo is moving up nicely (which is why I cant breathe properly )and growing well and of course as soon as they had had a good listen and proved everything ok LO finally decided to do the tango for the next 30 mins just to make me look a fool!.. I've got another scan in 2 weeks because my blood clotting problem, despite the heparin injections, could clog up the placenta and deprive the baby of everything it needs for continued good growth so they are keeping a close eye on us. Oh and my BMI coupled with my age and pcos means I'm probably going to need a glucose tolerance test too . Cant complain about the fab care at St Marys..I just wish I didnt have to trek in there so often or wait around so long (left home at 8.15 for 10am appointment, didnt leave until 1pm or get back until 1.45!...had to teach from 2.00 so am now exhausted! )But it should be worth it all in the end .

WinnieThePooh · 04/06/2007 21:24

THanks for all the congrats. Not too worried about the placenta at the moment, as I am sure it willl move before my next scan. I have told DP to book the day off as he WILL be with me for it. My friend came with me today ad for the 12 week scan as he was uanable to book the time off, but he has got plenty of notice this time.

I like the furniture J2O. we have this with the changing table top to go in lo's room. We got it when DD was born and it is currently in her playroom, but she has said that the new baby can have it. She also has the matching wardrobe and chest of drawers. WE currently have lots of Ikea shelving in the room that will be the baby's and DP has to sort out all the stuff that he has stored on them at the moment so I can rearrange them and use them for baby things.

j20baby · 04/06/2007 21:31

winnie, i didn't know you could shop online at ikea, i went a couple of weeks ago and they didn't have anything i wanted, am off to shop now

Hello everyone! I have to be really quick as I have some pressing work to do today...

Just to say congrats on all the healthy scans - so pleased that we're all on a positive roll and let's hope it continues to the end! Buffy - do you still have a scan on 7th or has that now been cancelled?

And hello to Nellie!

Will be back later (or maybe tomorrow) to try to post properly...

nellieloula · 05/06/2007 12:28

Great news floria - welcome to the official club! hope everyone else is well today - and forgive the ignorance, but what does CAT mean and whatever it does mean, Alice can I do it to you for that birth plan??!!

Inzi ! you poor love!!!
I've been getting bouts of mild sciatica since week 16, it comes and goes depending on what I've been up to (simply standing still for long periods of time eg grooming the dog even on his grooming table, can set it off). But I've had a crushed vertebrae since I was 13 which suddenly traps the sciatic nerve without rhyme, reason or any warning every once in a while and so I do understand and sympathise that awful feeling of being paralyzed with pain.
The consultant yesterday said that what I am getting now is because the ligaments are relaxing already and has told me to go to aqua-natal and get some physio for it...When you are better you might want to consider them too. Meanwhile: Keeping my knees apart in bed helps ease it, ie. putting a pillow (folded if necessary) between them. A tens machine if you can get your hands on one quickly can help, drug free, too. I would say a warm bath is good (it eases the muscle spasms that accompany the injury)but when your back is that bad you cant get out again so dont try that on your own, perhaps a heat pad/hot water bottle might do the trick??!
I'm so sorry for your pain, and do hope it eases off soon.
((((hugs))))

buffythenappyslayer21 · 05/06/2007 13:24

hi everyone.

cant believe how quick this thread keeps moving!!

ft i have to have glucose tolerance test aswell.got appointment for 30th july.mw told me you cant eat from midnight, and they start the test at around 9am.so that by the time its all over and done with its lunch time so you can eat!she said you are allowed to drink water but not too much.my friend had it aswell with her last pregnancy and she told me to take some magazines in as your sat around for 2 hours (mw said i can wander around hospital,dh said "oh thats ok then,we can go to teh cafe and have something to eat!!"duh!!had to remind him then im not allowed to eat until theyve taken the 2nd lot of bloods.

inzi sorry to hear your in so much pain.i was in agony last night and ended up crying!!id done 9 loads of washing yesterday and i think it was all the bending down that started my spd to hurt even more.then when i sat down i got shooting pains down both my legs.dd wouldnt go to sleep so as i was so tired and in so much pain i just cried my eyes out!!i didnt know how to sit because everytime i tried to get comfy the pain got worse.i found though, like you if i laid on my side (found the right side was better)with a pillow between my legs i was more comfy.i had a restless night as lo decided to use my bladder as a bouncy castle!!make sure you keep your legs together when getting in and out of bed.i know your pain is different to spd pain (yours is obviously worse) but it might help.hope you start feeling better soon.

congrats on the scan results!the girls are definately taking over the boys!!

mump, yes my scan is still on thursday.i cant wait!im so excited and nervous.i know lo is doing well, lots of movements and heartbeat is fab,but you still worry about the scan dont you.

its dh's birthday tomorrow,so he said finding out if were having a boy or a girl is like an extra birthday present!(even though its teh day after!!!)

Pheebe · 05/06/2007 13:42

Inzi how awful for you. I'd second the tens machine. you can get em from boots these days, think they're about £60 but believe me they're worth every penny and fab for labour too. you have to give them about 45 mins to an hour to really kick in fully but when they do they really really work. You might find a cold pack rather than heat will relieve nerve pain more effectively just don't leave it on for more than 20 mins t a time (again you can get em from boots and no I don't work for them!)
