@SpriteGirl ooo I love a good reason for a shopping trip! 👜

Thanks that's cleared a few things up.

Gem173 · 09/01/2018 07:40

So finally hit 7 weeks, bit of nausea early when walking into work, but mostly just extremely tired and just feel weak. second day at work and I just want to go home! Nice knowing the baby is the size of a raspberry tho! Ovias daily updates are the only thing that keeps me going!

peanut2017 · 09/01/2018 07:46

@Expecto totally know what you mean about the same experience and seeing the same place, staff etc.

I lost two before having my baby and that was one of the hardest things. They have an emergency room which is in a public place with people all around and this big red sign on the door. Was told in that room that I had a missed miscarriage. Well the consultant was called to a birth and was in the middle of the scan and said it didn't look hopeful. Then had to leave is there for 40 mins crying our eyes out.

Also one of the scanning rooms I've had good and bad news in.

So for my last pregnancy I have chosen to go private so had the same consultant, different building, rooms, car park. I needed that to feel ok. Totally get what you mean.

I'm still on maternity leave so we have to decide if we can afford to go private again so for my early scan I went on my own as DH started a new job and was back in that same room but I didn't feel as sensitive to the experience this time. Let's see

peanut2017 · 09/01/2018 07:47

@Hortonlovesahoo thinking of you. That's so tough. I hope everything will be ok. Try and mind yourself as best you can

Frescoed · 09/01/2018 09:58

Sorry to hear about your loss @Expecto Flowers It sounds like your GP is a really good place to start, if you feel comfortable and trust her. I cannot imagine how scary it must be now beginning again and having all those very difficult memories to combat too. Sounds like your OH is great.

@Horton thinking about you, I hope things are okay today.

florafoxtrot · 09/01/2018 10:17

Thinking about you Horton - that sounds incredibly scary and you seem to be being very strong.

Expecto · 09/01/2018 10:44

Thank you all for your encouragement and support...when I see my GP I’ll let you know what she says.

Having said that @Peanut2017 you just reminded me of another reason why I don’t want

Gem173 · 09/01/2018 10:47

Just found this in today’s paper.

August 2018 #2 Nausea and first scans!
Expecto · 09/01/2018 10:48

sorry couldn’t delete the last post and it sent by accident!

Anyway...I’ve just remembered another reason why I’d HATE to go back!!! It was all so very public. The neonatal ward has upto 6 babies there at any given time...there was no privacy...lots of crying (even by the medical staff involved). I remember thinking after how traumatising it must have been for the other parents too!!!

Gem173 · 09/01/2018 10:48

@Expecto and @Horton
Thinking of both of you

Expecto · 09/01/2018 10:51

I need to go private 🤔

Hope you’re okay Horton x

BertieBotts · 09/01/2018 11:41

I finally have my Mutterpass and second unofficial scan went well too! It actually looks blob shaped now rather than being a single dot. Everything measuring good which is great. Weirdly the NT scan and blood test for overall down's risk isn't covered by insurance here, we have to pay €150 for it. DH really wants to have it but I think it's a bit of a waste of time for us. I got him to agree to speak with the geneticist next week anyway.

Due date is 26th apparently so I'm wrong :P

Whichoneisit · 09/01/2018 12:08

Hi all,
I’ve been reading every day but falling behind on posting.
expecto Thinking of you. It’s such a difficult time. I had a traumatic miscarriage at 11 weeks requiring a hospital stay due to a massive hemorrage. I saw the same Consultant for a viability scan (luckily a different hospital) and it brought back so much anxiety. One day at a time.
horton how is the bleeding today? Such a stressful time for you.

I haven’t checked my insurance (wpa) but I don’t think they cover maternity packages. The local private hospital offers care and one postnatal check up (but delivery in an nhs hospital) for £3k but I’m hoping to avoid that and just have the harmony test (£450) and a growth scan (accuracy +- 15%) at 36 weeks due to a previous big baby and a one hour delivery.

Have made a GP appointment for Thurs (9 weeks Friday). I asked the receptionist about the booking in process. She said the GP gives you a pack, you make your NT scan appointment and then the midwife books you in after. Assuming I’ll have my harmony results by the time I have my NT scan.

How are the other 8.5 weekers feeling? I’m sleeping a lot and really bloated/constipated but still haven’t been physically sick. Hoping for some improvements in the next weeks as the placenta starts to take over.

Gizzymum · 09/01/2018 12:15

@Gem173 I'd say that's a bit of a scaremongering piece of journalism. Experiments done on mice and god only knows what dose the poor mice were given...

Expecto · 09/01/2018 12:24

I’m 8.2 days and feeling lethargic! Just a random question...anyone taking any supplements? I was previously on iron but have come off it so now on folic and vit d. Any use buying pregnacare?

agteacht · 09/01/2018 12:30

I'm taking pregnacare... just seemed simplest to get it all in one supplement. 3 for 2 in boots at the moment!

Gizzymum · 09/01/2018 12:30

@Gem173 Just to further reassure you about that article I've skim read the actual research paper. The dose given in 2 of the 3 experiments reviewed was 7x the dose we would take. In the other experiment, the dose was closer to human levels but only 8 mice were used which is an insignificant sample.

BertieBotts · 09/01/2018 12:33

I have some folic acid and then I have some folic acid, iron and iodine.

When I'm feeling more tired than constipated I take the ones with iron.

When I'm feeling more constipated than tired, I take the ones without! :)

I have heard pregnacare can exacerbate morning sickness for some people - it can be worth experimenting with taking it at different times of day.

Iron levels came up at 13.6 today which is good as should be between 12 and 16 apparently.

Pollyp87 · 09/01/2018 12:45

Think I’ve missed a lot of new messages over night.

Welcome to the newbies! Horton and Expecto hope things are more smooth for you both and improve for you.

No word of a lie someone asked me when I was due today......! Im just bloated Hmm

So I’ve got a callback booked at 3.15 from the Doctors and it’s the man, not sure if they will just do it all over the phone or not. I’m concerned about the bleeding I had the other week though plus I want to discuss my medication, especially since I’m really struggling to get to sleep at night. I’m exhausted.

I am also definitely still off milk chocolate. White chocolate seems to be ok though, phew! Sickness is definitely getting earlier each day now as well, excellent!!!

Hortonlovesahoo · 09/01/2018 12:50

@Spydie - thank you. They don't know what's causing the bleed so they don't know how they can stop it. I'm not out of the danger zone until the bleed stops and the baby continues to grow.

@Expecto - The doctor explicitly said to not rest on the sofa! She said to do everything as normal but don't do anything stupid!

@everyone - thank you for your support and kind words.

Thank you to everyone who has offered support. I'm hoping that things will get better. I've got a hot wheatie on my belly in the hope it helps.

Expecto · 09/01/2018 12:50

Oh pregnacares a no no then because I’m prone to morning sickness and strangely enough had chronic vomiting between weeks 14 to 22 last time round which doesn’t even make sense. Women with HG usually get it 6-8 weeks to week 14! No idea why I was getting it that late but have everything crossed that I don’t get it this time round.

Hortonlovesahoo · 09/01/2018 12:50

I've also just got my scan dates through. Anyone else have weird dates? I have my 10 week Scan 31st Jan and the 12 week scan: 5th Feb. It just doesnt make sense!

Expecto · 09/01/2018 12:59

@Horton...I guess the doctors know best...even so my logic is (you gotta bear with me on this) if you carried on as normal you wouldn’t actually be giving your body a chance to heal...

Expecto · 09/01/2018 13:00

@Horton it’s probably the only dates they have available, last time my 12 week scan was around 14 weeks

BertieBotts · 09/01/2018 13:36

Ah it will be because they are just nicknames for the scans. Really the 10 week one is 8-11 weeks I think and for 12 week 10-13. So they could even be in the wrong order.
