Hi everyone!

It's been a bit crazy for me the last few days.

Smells are driving me mad too! My DH has got a smell I can't stand when he's asleep like a sweaty smell if that makes sense but it wakes me up! Also nearly threw up in my DM kitchen yesterday afternoon. She was cooking sausages and I had to leave!
I'm knackered at the moment too. I feel like I could just sleep the whole day and I'd get up and still be tired! I'm going to bed about half an hour earlier than I normally would as well.

Can't wait for my scan to make sure my little bean (as we've nicknamed it) is doing ok in there!

amzq87 · 08/01/2018 10:27

I know how you feel @peterpanwendy - my anxiety seems to go in waves and at the moment I am convinced my scan won't go well. I'm a bit of a self-preserver - I always think of the worst case scenario as I think that means I will never be surprised but it's not great for mood. Sending you a hug xx

amzq87 · 08/01/2018 10:33

So - this morning has got the news we have confirmed Australian Flu in our office. I did have my flu vaccine but I've heard this won't help much. Is this something I should worry about? Or do anything differently? Trying to be clean and washing my hands all the time at the moment but unsure what else, if anything, to do x

WaitingforToto · 08/01/2018 10:36

I totally know what you all mean about the anxiety. The days are really dragging for me, and I just want to get through this awful nervous time. But I also don’t want to wish the time away! I really don’t think that worrying is going to help us at all - I sort of think it’s out of our hands and we should try to be happy and calm, that’s the best thing for us and our little ones! Easier said than done I know, but worrying never achieved anything. Sending lots of calm positivity to you all! x

YouCantBeSirius · 08/01/2018 10:46

Morning all, I had my booking appointment this morning and now won't have another midwife appointment for 5 weeks. The midwife said I should get my scan appointment through the post in the next few days.

Frescoed · 08/01/2018 11:21

Morning All, just hopping aboard. Got a positive just before Christmas, I think I'm due sometime in mid-August but I'm not sure as my cycle has been a bit crazy. This will be my second if it sticks, I have a two-year-old lad. I have an appointment with my GP today - new surgery and set-up, as we moved cities pre-Christmas, so I'm not quite sure how it works where we are now. Giving a little wave to @emh30 as I think you're my fellow November 2015-er! Hope everyone who is suffering with sickness and other things is doing okay today.

Gizzymum · 08/01/2018 11:33

@Frescoed Welcome!

@amzq87 I think the flu vaccine works against the most common strain of flu so won't be as affective against the Australian flu. It's still worth getting the regular flu vaccine though as it'll stop you getting regular flu (or at least stop you getting it as bad). Hand washing is a good plan and perhaps some alcohol gel so when you get back to your desk you can use it (eg if you've just been to get your lunch or make a drink). I'm assuming the Aussie flu person is no longer in the office so try not to worry as I'd have thought the flu virus wouldn't have survived over the weekend on inanimate objects.

Gizzymum · 08/01/2018 11:36

Whoops, posted too soon.

As for the anxiety - I get it too and am also a plan for the worst hope for the best kind of person. I found it eased a bit after the first scan last time, and this time I just have less time to worry (although still seem to find time to do so).

Eloisa123 · 08/01/2018 12:11

hi @peterpanwendy
I know exactly how you feel. I had it in my last pregnancy too in the first trimester - really badly (not so much anxiety about mc or bad news at the scan, but about how life would change after the baby). The turning point for me was seeing the scan at 12 weeks. After that I felt more at peace. And after the birth - the first days/weeks were hard but there are so many amazing experiences in store. This time around, I can cope with the anxiety knowing I had it last time, and how it seems like a part of the process almost everyone goes through.
I also had worries about people's reactions, my body changing, being self-conscious about my bump - and I have those again now, especially being an older mum. But those sorts of worries seem so natural and loads of people have them in different kinds of ways, I think.

Gem173 · 08/01/2018 12:30

Hey ladies, just finished a half day at work. Work in a hospital so lots of people have gone home due to flu. On the ward today I almost fainted. I felt really tingly and had to sit down I had no strength whatsoever and went very pale. Then I started sweating so bad and got very hot. Had to sit down for 15 mins just to get enough strength to stand up again. Have a feeling blood sugar may have been low. I eat a lot of sugar daily and today have tried to cut sugary products out of my diet. Guess it’s something to discuss with the doctor at my booking in appt today. I hope it doesn’t happen a lot it felt awful! Goodluck to those having scans/booking scans zx

Stephiewoo · 08/01/2018 12:42

Afternoon.
I wouldn't say I'm anxious about pregnancy, just the spinal. Simple as that, I have a fair bit of nerve damage in my back from previous epidurals and spinal so really sensitive.
My main anxiety is not having my mum around anymore, she passed away nearly 3 yrs ago, my sister and I are not close, my dad is a dickhead and I very rarely see him. I feel quite isolated.
@Gem173 get your bloods done and checked, I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy was diagnosed with 8 weeks to go. Don't cut out things too quickly either, your body will go into shock.
@Eloisa123 I feel old!!😂😂😂 I'm not 40 yet but having the older two it's expected I will be in Ibiza living it up not having another baby 😂😂

Hi to anyone new 😊xx

Gem173 · 08/01/2018 12:58

@Stephiewoo
Thankyou for those words, will look up gestational diabetes. Il try not to cut it out completely just say I have two sugars in my tea I tried to drink tea without it this morning. Dunno think my body is just use to sugar I told my oh that I would have thought I’d have diabetes (only 20, but I have sugar in everything think I just have a sweet tooth)
Il ask the doctor to do my bloods which I’m sure they will do anyway :) hope this pregnancy goes well for you, you aren’t alone or isolated, you got us lot!

spydie · 08/01/2018 12:59

Hope everyone is well, just been catching up on quite a few pages, it's been very busy on this bus!!

I really didn't have a good first delivery I'm sorry to say. Had an induction due to reduced movements which was awful, back to back and face presentation meant DD got stuck and I had an emergency forceps delivery in theatre. It affected me a lot post delivery, failed at bfeeding, anxiety/depression, I've lost the sensation to pee (I know thats the opposite to most but honestly it's not fun having a full bladder and struggling to let it out!) and a hip injury which I think has something to do with legs in stirrups. I'm consultant led this time and will be pushing hard for c section. I actually know at least 2 people who had elcs and were able to drive sooner than I was from the forceps/episiotomy Confused

Speaking of DD, 23 months and has suddenly decided to become hysterical at bedtime and started waking at night after sleeping through from 6 weeks. Absolutely exhausted and feeling so sick today.

@peterpanwendy I have the same worries about other people and their reaction. Work colleagues in particular did not react well last time, so I'm holding on as long as possible before telling anyone this time.

@amzq87 fingers crossed you miss it. I guess a reminder for us all to get the flu jab if we haven't already (me included!!)

Stephiewoo · 08/01/2018 13:10

@spydie go for that c section. I was driving a week after mine. You don't get the bearing down feeling either afterwards.😊

Eloisa123 · 08/01/2018 13:26

Yes I second @stephiewoo. I had a c section last time and recovery was quick - I even lived up 4 flights of stairs then and was climbing them in no time.
Definitely asking for an elc this time - don't want to got through induction.

Kiki275 · 08/01/2018 13:33

Anyone else eating like a horse? I'm just constantly grazing on whatever is available. I used to just have a cup of tea if I had the munchies but gone off it now (unless sugared) x

TheGrumpySquirrel · 08/01/2018 13:43

Pretty sure the current flu vaccine includes the Australian strain, you can check online which are included

TheGrumpySquirrel · 08/01/2018 13:45

Kiki yes I'm eating so much I've already put on weight, feel so embarrassed 😞

spydie · 08/01/2018 14:18

@stephiewoo a week Blush it was almost 4 weeks for me... but both people I know were also driving in a week, one at 4 days as she came in to see us at the office!

I just hope I get a nice consultant Hmm

@eloisa123 I would definitely recommend avoiding one given my experience. I hope you get yours!

Pollyp87 · 08/01/2018 14:34

What sort of circumstances do they suggest a c sec?

I have private healthcare through Work (axa) so I’m thinking of seeing if I can use any of that at all, but the out patient benefit is only £1,000 which doesn’t stretch too far. A lot of the hospitals around me are rate quite badly so I’m not sure where to chose if I get a choice.

I’m severely hormonal today. Everyone and everything is pissing me off! I had another night when I was still wide awake at 2am, took DP to Work at 8.30 then came back and slept for 2 hours (working from home today) and still feel exhausted. Suspect I’ll be awake at 2am again as well. I’m just feeling really overwhelmed today, not if I want to scream or cry 😢🤬

Pollyp87 · 08/01/2018 14:36

I also wanted to asked those who have been pregnant before - can you feel your uterus? If yes, at how many weeks and what does it feel like?! Just curious as my lower stomach (lady garden essentially!) has started to get quite hard.

Gem173 · 08/01/2018 14:48

Feeling kind of worried about my doctors appointment. Will be my first since finding out and I’m a bit worried the doctor might say I’m ‘too young’ or ‘why haven’t you read up on everything’. You know judge me. Usually have oh with me for a bit of confidence but he can’t make it, so going alone. If I’m Scared to talk to doctor how am I gunna tell my family? So nervous now!

E2017 · 08/01/2018 14:50

Sorry I've been a bit out of touch the last couple of days. I've basically been asleep most of the time. Went into hospital Saturday night due to not being able to stop being sick and I couldn't hold anything down. I've been put on different anti-sickness meds and antibiotics as my body has apparently also been struggling to fight an infection. In the last week I have lost 5kg (I was 65kg before). They did a scan and thankfully Ted is fine. Got told to rest and not go into work until I feel better so had the last two nights off work. Have slept all night both nights and most of the days as well. 😳
Hope everyone else is feeling ok.
I've been feeling pretty anxious as well just telling myself he's ok at the moment and the big thing I'm worried about is giving birth (which I'm telling myself is miles away... head in the sand denial style). X

Gizzymum · 08/01/2018 14:52

@Pollyp87 I'd imagine the uterus is still below the pelvis unless your closer to 12w. I used to feel it but can't remember at what point. It'll be around the time the midwife starts bump measuring as they're feeling for the top of the uterus then.

Pollyp87 · 08/01/2018 14:58

@gem I feel exactly the same as you re doctor. Just really hoping she’s nice, I’ve not seen the female before. I can feel the judging already because I’ll be there on my own and if I get an early scan I’ll probably be doing that alone too, but hoping we can work it so OH can be there.

@gizzymum thanks for that, was just curious. Interested to see how my body changes. I’ve felt a lot going on in there, especially at night when I lay on my front. It’s wierd. I just feel like I can feel it, makes no sense I know!!

@e2017 5kg wow, that’s a lot (I was trying to lose 5kg before Xmas but only managed 3 in 6 weeks!!!). Hope you’re starting to feel a bit better but glad Ted is ok. I need a nickname.

My ‘morning’ sickness has arrived early today, normally starts around 6pm and gets progressively worse upto 10/11 and it’s just come on prett strong 🤢 I’ve hardly ate today either because I just feel too exhausted.
