@Pollyp87 I'm sure they are used to seeing people with and without there partners. Not every partner is going to be able to get time off work for each and every appointment. I took my Mum to one appointment with me as my husband couldn't make it due to work. They didn't bat an eyelid.

In regards to sickness until mine got really bad it seemed to stay manageable if I ate little and often. Also wearing seabands helps a lot of people. X

spydie · 08/01/2018 15:11

@gem & @pollyp87 don't worry about the Drs, you will likely be in and out. I referred straight to MW this time, but with my first saw the Dr and was asked if it was planned...I think they are standard questions to highlight any patients that might need extra support rather than to judge.

Gem173 · 08/01/2018 15:20

@spydie
Do we have to say if it was planned or not? Mine is but cause I’m young there’s that judgemental side to it. Would rather not answer. 😂

StrawberryLemonade · 08/01/2018 15:21

Please don’t feel scared of going to the GP anyone they really aren’t judging you. I work in the nhs and really it takes an awful lot to judge someone at all and even so we wouldn’t let it show.
I’m feeling really tired this afternoon - home from work and I think I’ll have a little nap before picking DD up even though I have more productive things I could be doing.

Eloisa123 · 08/01/2018 15:29

When I went to the GP first time, they just said congrats and gave me the number of the MW service. That was it. This time didn't see the GP at all. It really is in-and-out and not something they get that involved with, unless there are medical issues outside the MW's scope. Definitely nothing to worry about!

StrawberryLemonade · 08/01/2018 15:40

Yeh I’m not seeing my GP just have Midwife booking later this week. A bit worried my scan will end up being late as I’m nearly 10w already but don’t suppose it really matters.

agteacht · 08/01/2018 15:59

Hi Pollyp
I have Axa PPP too, not sure if there's any use of it for pregnancy purposes but would be interested to find out if you discover there is... thanks Thanks

TinoTheArtisticMouse · 08/01/2018 16:06

I'm with Bupa and it doesn't cover pregnancy - only elcs, but when you're being rushed into theatre you're not going to call Bupa!

TinoTheArtisticMouse · 08/01/2018 16:06

They should be emcs bloody autocorrect!

Frescoed · 08/01/2018 16:07

I've just been to my GP appt. I didn't think I would need one, but the surgery I've just registered with insisted; it took about a minute, and they gave me a number for the midwifery team to fix a booking in appointment. Just some very standard questions - had I had any children before, any known complications. The midwife will do a fuller medical history and a discussion about home circumstances with the booking in, from memory.

Babydreaming · 08/01/2018 16:08

So I’ve finally moved house! The nausea has been less noticeable as I’ve been busy but I’ve still felt exhausted! I registered with the GP surgery this morning and had to tell the receptionist I was 9 weeks pregnant. She said to call back tomorrow and then book GP appt so I can be referred to midwives so it definitely looks like my booking appointment and scan will be later!

Pollyp87 · 08/01/2018 16:13

Thanks for the comments on GP - I’ve got a bit of family history with births/general female anatomy so will probably have a bit to talk about with them. We will see what they say but hopefully a quick in and out. Stupid thing is that they won’t prebrook appointments anymore so I have to wait for them to call me tomorrow morning to give me a time...what’s that all about?!

agteacht & tino I had heard that rumour. I have no out patient benefit left until April so wasn’t planning to look into it then. Looks like I’ll have to pick the best of a bad bunch otherwise, any advice on what to look for from anyone?

spydie · 08/01/2018 16:23

@Gem173 they may not even ask! And up to you whether you answer. I really wouldn't worry, woman 'young and 'older' have babies all the time, I don't think anyone will judge Smile

To whoever was asking out about private....I've had policies with both BUPA (current provider) and AXA and both only covered pregnancy in emergency situations.

SpriteGirl · 08/01/2018 16:43

@Babydreaming congratulations on the move! Must be a weight off your mind.

Stephiewoo · 08/01/2018 16:49

I was also asked if this was a planned pregnancy, I said yes, and is my only planned one!!!
People can be so judgemental, I go back to work next week after some time out, my job is stressful at the best of times but been really let down by colleagues recently, so will be interesting to see their reaction when they see I'm expecting.

I went it alone with all of my pregnancies and this will be my first with a supportive partner. So will deffo be new to me 😂

Wasn't sick this morning! Happy days 😃

Peoniesandcats · 08/01/2018 16:54

Have also got AXA PPP but doesn't look like pregancy is covered which is a shame.

When is everyone thinking about telling work about their pregnancy? I don't think I want to tell them until 14-16 weeks really..

Mine's just an office desk job though

Pollyp87 · 08/01/2018 16:55

Thanks @spydie it was me! Oh well, it was a long shot!

I’m wondering if there’s anyone I want to let in on my secret so they can come with me if OH can’t. I don’t want that person to be my mum though!!! My sister lives 200 miles away as well. Frustrating. My OH is so supportive, he really is amazing, the only person I’ve ever been with who isn’t a selfish wanker who puts himself first. It’s just so frustrating that he can’t be here all the time.

Pollyp87 · 08/01/2018 16:56

Congrats on the house move too @babydreaming !

babyH3O · 08/01/2018 17:09

@Pollyp87 Your uterus will be level with your belly button at 20wks (if I remember rightly!) then grows at a certain rate per week. Is it 1cm per week ladies?? I certainly feel firmer in my lower abdomen also - at 10 wks I think my uterus is currently the size of a large orange...!

Regarding private health care - I live overseas and had enquired while I was in the uk over Christmas time about private maternity hospitals as I am no longer a UK resident so not entitled to NHS treatment free. There are no private maternity hospitals in Scotland, and the doctor I saw for a scan at a Nuffield clinic said he thought the only options were London and maybe Manchester. I haven't decided yet where to deliver - it will be extremely hot where I live in the summer but I would need to fly home before 35wks so it could be a long time away from my own bed. Lots to think about.

Gem173 · 08/01/2018 17:10

Right done the doctors appt, now got to phone midwives.
Somehow my doctor put my pregnancy as unplanned. When clearly I ran out of the pill 3 months before I even conceived. Silly woman lol she was nice anyway and said good things! Totally lied about who knew but ah well they will know eventually. Bmi on point, she said I’m due 29th aug when my app says 28th but that’s the only difference. Wasn’t too bad, only horrible thing was the lady on reception, rude woman 😑

BertieBotts · 08/01/2018 17:36

Would you not want to deliver where you are H30?

Gem173 · 08/01/2018 17:46

Booked my midwife appt for 29th jan at 4pm

babyH3O · 08/01/2018 17:47

@BertieBotts I think so... my other half is a teacher tho so the timing worked well for spending the summer holidays in the UK. We live in the Middle East so temps will reach high 40s by August. Blush Also, I'm O negative and had a PPH after DC2... not sure they even have stock of my blood type where we live which they should have on standby in case of another PPH, so a few other things to consider also. Will ask more questions of my obstetrician and make a decision after the 12wk scan. Are you in Germany? I assume you will deliver there?

BertieBotts · 08/01/2018 17:49

Oh OK that's difficult. Yes I will deliver in Germany, nowhere to stay if I came home, and I think the healthcare here is very good especially around maternity.

spydie · 08/01/2018 17:59

@peoniesandcats I'm waiting as long as possible before telling work. Last time I didn't really show so if I can make it anywhere between 16 and 20 weeks before spilling the beans I'll be happy. Mine is also just desk based. Last time I told boss at 8 weeks due to sickness and he told people! Sickness not so bad this time which is good... I'm betting on a bit just on that basis lol Wink
