I would love another girl but we shall see! Chinese predictor says girl Grin I'm having harmony at the end of jan so will find out

milney25 · 04/01/2018 20:26

Welcome to all our new ladies!

Gizzymum · 04/01/2018 20:28

@Gem173 It's non-invasive screening. They take a blood sample from the Mum to be, and there is baby dna (or something like that) in our blood. They then use that baby dna to check for various genetic anomalies eg downs, Edwards, Patau, gender based anomalies and they can also use it to tell you the gender. There's a variety of different tests but not all look at gender related anomalies or can tell you the gender. Ours is £400 (Manchester area).

@Eloisa123 The Chinese gender thing told me DS was going to be DD 😳. I'd love a girl as then I'd have one of each, so I'm preparing myself for the fact it's going to be a boy. My parents would also like it to be a girl (they've 4 grandsons and only one granddaughter). However, I'm repeatedly told I have the "easiest" baby ever, and I've heard girls are meant to be more difficult, so perhaps a girl would be too much of a shock to my system.

Pollyp87 · 04/01/2018 20:50

Hello ladies,
Got my BFP last week, a very merry (and unexpected!) late Christmas present! We weren’t ttc so it wasn’t until AF was a week late that I started to put 2+2 together with my symptoms. Couldn’t believe it at first, think my OH is still getting his head round it a bit, as am I. The first thing I thought was that I’m not ready to push a baby out but am absolutely over the moon and excited and also terrified! I don’t even know where to start, haven’t discussed with anyone else yet but have an appointment to see my GP on Tuesday. Was anyone on medication which they’ve had to come off? I’m due 28th August ☺️

Pollyp87 · 04/01/2018 21:08

Oh and just adding myself (baby brain has definitely already started...)!

@Pollyp87 hi - congrats! They had to switch my migraine medicine to Aspirin (which actually worked better!) but I then had to come back off it while BFing. Am on anti-depressants but one you can take while pregnant.

Pollyp87 · 04/01/2018 21:26

Thank you! It’s still sinking in. I’ve been told I can’t take any of mine, one is an antidepressant - amytriptaline - which I take for interstitial cystitis (which I’ve conincidentally recently been told I don’t have!!) I’m fine to stop taking it now I don’t have it but the withdrawal is horrible, the only way I can explain it is that it’s like a really strong sense of de ja vu that comes over me all of a sudden, it’s so weird!! She said we can discuss it all on Tuesday though so see what she says!

I think I’ve been ok symptoms wise, I get nauseous quite badly at night but no actually sickness yet, I’m bloody starving and I’m really dizzy/lightheaded quite a bit too. I had some bleeding last week so hoping for an early scan, I’m 7 weeks tomorrow.

What about vitamins?

CaffeineDragon · 04/01/2018 21:40

@Pollyp87 they should offer suggestions of alternatives or a plan to wean off. Hope they can help.

I take the pregnacare ones. Make sure you are taking folic acid asap as it's really important the first 12 weeks.

Pollyp87 · 04/01/2018 21:53

I got the boots version today so I’m on those now, the pregnancy plus ones with the extra capsule of cod liver oil too. I feel like I need a lot of advice/steering so if anyone has any tips I’d be really glad to hear them and take them on board. My boss is on holiday for another week but I’m wondering if I need to tell her next week as I do a lot of driving for Work so not sure if they’ll need to know for health and safety etc.

Hufflepuffinalltheway · 04/01/2018 22:05

Hope it’s okay

Gizzymum · 04/01/2018 22:09

@Pollyp87 Welcome! I'm not sure they'd need to know if just driving. Even if you have to lift things I imagine you wouldn't have to tell them. I have a manual job which would entail lifting people (well, helping them move) which has on occasion been a 6 person job! I didn't have to tell mine but I decided to tell them early for DS1 as I didn't want to have to make excuses if I had bad morning sickness or if, god forbid, anything bad happened and I disappeared (I work in a hospital and could run off to the EPU if needed). I'm still on mat leave but have told Work already as I'd arranged a meeting to discuss coming back to work just before I got this BFP so decided to keep the meeting and just fill them in.

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 22:10

Driving is OK, you need to tell work ASAP if you work with chemicals or do heavy lifting, and some places prefer to know if you work with young children because of certain illness risks (HFM and chicken pox mainly), here in Germany they don't want you changing nappies or having saliva contact with under-3s unless it's your own child so you can't help it! Other than that you can tell them when you like but I think you have to tell them by the 16th week? It's probably listed on gov.uk. You're legally protected and they have to allow you time off for appointments, so it can be useful if they are being funny about time off at short notice, but on the other hand, there's no subsequent protection if you miscarry so sometimes people prefer to wait if their employer isn't very supportive and they are worried they might be let go if they lost the pregnancy and the employer assumed they would TTC again.

Gem173 · 04/01/2018 22:18

Okay now guys don’t laugh but I go to the dentist with my mum because we have the same dentist and find it easier to go at the same and get it over with. Now my mum books it and it’s under her name so I’m not sure if I can change it. The appointment is end of jan and I’m not sure if they will do an X-ray on my mouth (they usually do every year or 6 months to update their systems) now if this is harmful to the baby how will I tell the dentist with my mother in the same room? Haven’t told my parents yet and won’t be till mid to end of february x

CaffeineDragon · 04/01/2018 22:20

@Pollyp87 @BertieBotts it's 15 weeks before five baby is due, so technically 25 weeks! My work would kill me if I waited that long! Still waiting until after my scan though.

Pollyp87 · 04/01/2018 22:23

That’s for the advice on Work place, I’ll keep quiet for now then, I’d rather wait until after the first scan to tell anyone at all. I’m field based and often work from home so have enough flexibility for appointments/illness.

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 22:34

Gem maybe email or phone them beforehand and ask to put on their notes? Or just fake a stomach upset the day before and cancel your appointment and rebook?

Gem173 · 04/01/2018 22:59

@BertieBotts
I’m thinking of going up there after a doctors appointment and seeing if I can cancel but keep my mums appointment. Just tell her I have something going on

Babydreaming · 05/01/2018 06:08

@pollyp87 I probably won’t tell work til as late as I can! My sister in law had just started her new job when she got pregnant and her 6 month probation period ended when she was 24 weeks so she managed to hide the pregnancy from work until then!
Congratulations by the way :)

OP posts:
TheGrumpySquirrel · 05/01/2018 06:44

Yep you don't have to tell work until 25 weeks but doubt I can hide it for that long. Trying to wait until 16/18weeks if I can hide it till then.

StrawberryLemonade · 05/01/2018 07:09

Work would kill me if I didn’t tell them until 25 weeks as they need time to advertise for maternity cover while I’m off. I haven’t told them yet but I’m feeling so rough that I might have to soon. Hopefully will be able to wait until after 12w scan.

Does anyone else just feel unrelentingly exhausted? I’ve slept but don’t feel refreshed. Every part of my body feels exhausted! I hope this passes soon. I don’t remember it being this bad last time but then I didn’t have a toddler to look after then either.

amzq87 · 05/01/2018 07:28

I've been super tired too @StrawberryLemonade but this is my first. I said to DH yesterday that I don't know how people with small kids do this bit - I don't think I could at the moment so hats off to you!

amzq87 · 05/01/2018 07:32

My manager knows - had to tell him when I had a rough couple of weeks with MS but none of my colleagues know yet. He was pleased for me and has just let me be flexible with hours when I need to be Smile

CumbrianExile · 05/01/2018 07:41

My team leader knows because she guessed after hearing me order a lemonade on the work Christmas party! She won't tell anyone else though, and I'm glad someone knows and I don't have to hide my nausea from her!

I'm with you StrawberryLemonade, feeling more tired this time, but I do think running round after my 3yo isn't helping any! (And now I want some strawberry lemonade 😀)

kathrynalicem · 05/01/2018 07:42

I had my first scan yesterday at 6 weeks 6days. I had it early cause I was worried about some discharge I had. I got to see my little bean and it's little heart beat. So exciting!!! So glad I did it and really put my mind at rest!

Pollyp87 · 05/01/2018 07:53

I’ve felt like absolutely exhausted for weeks already, it was one of the biggest signs for me that something was different, I slept through a whole day a couple of weeks ago and that is really unlike me. I’ve really struggled this week though, probably less than 5 hours every night, it’s killing me!! I have really vivid dreams too. It’s got especially worse since I’ve come off my medication too, they were a definite sleeping aid but hoping I’ll get used to that fairly soon.
