Hi all
Thanks for all of your views. I am veering towards an early scan for the reasons you all described. I will see if my local place does external though! I have my first doc appointment a fortnight tomorrow so maybe after that. I will be 8 weeks then. Will be looking forward to hearing all of your scan experiences between now and then! ❤️

E2017 · 04/01/2018 13:01

How are you all feeling today. My mother put her foot down and made me call the dr who has put me on cyclozine (probably spelt that wrong). Apparently nausea 24/7 and vomiting 15-25 times a day minimum warrants being put on anti sickness stuff. 🙁

Gem173 · 04/01/2018 13:05

I’m not having an early scan, I can’t really afford it so just taking comfort in the fact that my baby should be okay and I’ll see her soon. (Hoping for a girl but if not il still be very happy) 6 weeks to go!

Babydreaming · 04/01/2018 13:53

@gem173 im secretly hoping for a girl too! I have a little boy already so would be great to have one of each. I’d be very happy to have a healthy baby of either gender though!

@E2017 hell yes i would think so!

Don’t mind if it’s a boy or girl. This is my first but my husband already has a son. He was getting rid of some of my step sons clothes the other day and I said anything that’s in good nick keep in case it’s a boy. He looked at me solemnly for a moment and then said “We are having a girl” Grin. So that’s that decided!

Gem173 · 04/01/2018 14:37

When do you find out the gender? I think through nhs it’s 20 weeks. But I think you can find out at a private scan at 16 weeks? Which I think I might do. I’ve already got my names sorted for boy or for girl so just waiting on being told!

YouCantBeSirius · 04/01/2018 14:39

I had my flu vaccine today, I've never had one before so hyped myself up for nothing. I barely felt it.

YouCantBeSirius · 04/01/2018 14:41

@Gem173 some hospitals won't tell you at the 20 week scan. I'm going to book a private scan when I'm around 16 weeks though so I can take my DD and DSD with me to find out.

Gem173 · 04/01/2018 14:49

@YouCantBeSirius
Oh okay; well I’m hoping to book a private one too :) how many weeks are you?

YouCantBeSirius · 04/01/2018 14:57

I'm 10 weeks today although dates may change at my 12 week scan. How many weeks are you?

Eloisa123 · 04/01/2018 15:01

Have any of you told your existing DCs yet? I'm leaving it as long as possible - till all scans, tests etc have been done...and even longer if I'm not showing too much. But would love to hear how your DCs have reacted if you've told them already!

Gizzymum · 04/01/2018 15:05

@Gem173 You can find out the gender from about10w if you have NIPT (eg harmony).

clementineclouds · 04/01/2018 15:09

hi everyone, okay if I join? expecting DC1 on the 14th Aug. Have had a long and bumby road to get here, so am more anxious than excited at the mo. had an early pregnancy scan, just before christmas, so got to see the flutter of a heartbeat. just trying to take 1 day at a time.

I've been nauseous for a month, and in the past few days, seem to have an adversion to all foods (whilst simultaneously being starving all the time). happy to have the symptoms, as take as a good sign, but will be glad when they do one.

just taking one day at a time...

how is everyone else?

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 15:13

Yes, we have told DS but he is older and knows about miscarriage as we've had one before. He's very sweet and protective.

Hi clementine :)

DH is rushing back from work with bananas for me as I've told him it's the only thing I feel like eating (that or melon!) - I've managed to stomach a yoghurt, but that's all.

Whichoneisit · 04/01/2018 15:15

We’ve booked a harmony test at 10+3. I think we’ll find out the sex from that. Have a DD and DS so no preference, so long as all is ok.
Haven’t told DC yet (12 and all 8). We were thinking of telling them after the viability scan but we’ve decided to wait for the harmony results.
Still haven’t been to GP yet and I’m 8 weeks tomorrow. Must make an appointment next week. I guess the nhs nuchal isn’t that important if we have the harmony test but it’ll be good to get booked in.
Still finding the nausea manageable minus the odd day (today). Keep disappearing off to the kitchen and hovering between the fridge and the sink. No appetite at all!

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 15:20

I remember hearing if your DC are little to tell them as late as possible, preferably when you've started showing and/or feeling movement, because they will struggle to process that a baby is coming but not for several months yet, and they don't have anything concrete to hold on to, whereas a visible bump, and/or soon being able to feel kicks from the outside, helps to make it more real for them.

Emmasmum2013 · 04/01/2018 15:44

We've told DD - she alternates between being rather excited and wanting to play games that involve an imaginary baby (she had me stuffing a cushion up my top the other day and pretending the baby had suddenly "arrived", if only it were that easy!) and saying she doesn't want a brother or sister.
She has said she'd like a girl more than a boy. And I would too I think. I've nothing against boys, I'd be very happy either way, but we've already got a lot of girly baby things still from DD! So it would be cheaper haha. Plus I think it would be nice for her to have a sister. I think I always wanted one secretly.

Emmasmum2013 · 04/01/2018 15:47

Won't be having an early private scan. I used to work in an NHS radiology department and I've heard some bad things about some of the places that do them - dodgy ultrasound machines bought off ebay and all kinds. Plus its not that long to wait for the usual 20 week NHS scan to find out.

YouCantBeSirius · 04/01/2018 15:48

I've told my DD and DSD because they were worried about how sick I was. My DD wasn't exactly thrilled Grin but she's come around now. DSD seemed happy about it.

Eloisa123 · 04/01/2018 15:56

Yes I'd like a sister for my DD too! She sometimes asks for a baby brother or sister but don't know how that will translate into a real reaction when she finds out! How old is your DD Emmasmum?

Bertiebotts - have you tried kiwis? They are so refreshing and a nice pick-me-up...

gkeen369 · 04/01/2018 15:59

Haven't told DD yet (she's 6 next month) we're waiting til after the dating scan but then I'd like to be able to take her along to the anomalies scan. I know that's a risk and we'll handle that if anything untoward shows up but I'd just love her to find out the sex at the he same time we do (has to be a boy. No girl EVER made me feel this bad Grin)

amzq87 · 04/01/2018 16:04

Hello @clementineclouds - welcome and congrats! Hope that long and bumpy road has brought you to a lovely place and all goes well x

Emmasmum2013 · 04/01/2018 16:07

Shes 4 @Eloisa123 so she's a little young yet to really understand. And I think once I'm showing it'll become a bit more real for her. But she seems to be taking it all in at her own pace. She'll sometimes ask me "mum, have you still got a baby in your tum tum?" Bless her.

BertieBotts · 04/01/2018 16:08

Funnily enough he brought a kiwi too! But it's still hard so I'll leave it a couple of days I think.

Emmasmum2013 · 04/01/2018 16:13

@gkeen369

I've a feeling mine is a boy too!! I just feel so different to last time with DD!
