@Minster2012 that sounds lovely! Think we're gonna go with clouds/weather for our theme

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 08/02/2018 19:33

Ours is a woodland theme too Smile but pink & grey for the little miss - going to get a few Bambi bits I've seen. I did see THE most amazing cot mobile on Pinterest and it was perfect.. clicked through onto Etsy and it was £220!!!

karategirl · 10/02/2018 08:24

Hi everyone. Thanks for your support - I think I was just having a bit of a weepy week. Feeling much better now. Still puking (although only once yesterday, and touch wood not at all today!) and have had a new wave of exhaustion this week, but that could be to do with overdoing it at work (it's been a bit of a nightmare over the past few days!)

@Heregoes @Raspberryblonde I finally told my brothers last weekend! It was lovely. I'd made them each a card, and sat them all on the sofa. Said that I'd hoped to get them all a joint experience, or tickets to something for Christmas again (last year I sent them indoor skydiving together) but this wasn't being advertised before Christmas. Then gave them the cards, which said they had lifetime membership to The Uncle Experience, and a load of silly quotes about how it's all the fun of having a kid, with none of the responsibility and that it means they have an excuse to watch their favourite kids films and stuff. My mum took photos of their reactions. They were really excited, and I'm so glad I told them all together - even if it meant waiting.

I've told a few people at work this week too, and it's starting to filter out more generally. I feel a bit more comfortable now people know, I'm glad that people hadn't started to guess. A couple of people asked me on Monday where on earth my bump is, but I'm actually starting to show this week.

@Heregoes I know what you mean about priority seats! I travelled to London the other day, and was in the priority seat on the bus, feeling like utter death. A lady got on with an elderly gent and turned to ask if he could have my seat, but I obviously looked green as she then turned away and asked the lady sitting on the opposite side of the aisle! I then had to escape the bus to throw up outside King's Cross. Decided it was safer for all involved for me to walk the rest of the way!

@Lifechanges @Minster2012 @Winterfell I have a couple of days off next week, and we're going to start stripping wallpaper and organising stuff in the nursery. We're thinking a literary theme, with pictures from, and based on, our favourite books. No idea about colours etc though. We're planning to keep the sofabed in there, at least for the time being, so that there's somewhere to sit, and it can be used as a bedroom in emergencies.

Heregoeseverything · 10/02/2018 12:39

I can't believe you're still puking @karategirl , you poor thing! Remind me how far along you are? I know you've said this many times but my brain is mush at the mo!

My current second trimester lull continues - nosebleeds seem to have stopped also touch wood - but I do have random nipple daggers and persistent leg cramps!

Heregoeseverything · 10/02/2018 12:40

PS So glad telling your brothers went so well, sounds lovely! Also glad your bump didn't give you away, I'm at the stage now where I still haven't told plenty of people (awaiting 20 week scan) but if I meet up with them I'm pretty sure they will guess when they see me!

Megadesk63 · 10/02/2018 21:03

Hi everyone :) Hoping it’s okay if I join even though I’m a bit late to the thread! I’m 17+1, baby is due 20 July and it’s our first (I’m late 20s) - very excited and slightly anxious about it all at the same time but thinking that’s normal...
Just wondering if anyone has had the second trimester burst of energy yet? I’m waiting and waiting (and waiting) for it and not sure whether I should just accept that it’s not going to happen...

karategirl · 11/02/2018 11:24

@Heregoes don't worry, I can't remember how far along anyone is either! I'm 17 weeks today. Glad to hear the nose bleeds have stopped. I had quite bad lower back pain last night, and crampy / restless legs. Did not sleep well at all! Are you using pillows when you sleep at all? I'm not at the moment, but think I'm going to have to see if it helps.

Welcome @Megadesk63, good to have you along. You're at a very similar point to me! I'm due on 22 July, and also late 20s. I haven't had a burst of energy as such, but the utter exhaustion that I had in the first trimester has more of less abated, so I suppose comparatively it feels like I've got some energy. I'm still pretty tired if I try and actually do anything though! We had friends over for dinner last night, and to stay the night. I had to bow out and go to bed while my husband stayed up, opened a second bottle of port and rolled into bed at around 3 this morning. Quite glad I didn't try and keep up with it to be honest!

Bromeliad · 11/02/2018 19:56

I'm not getting a burst of energy. If anything I'm just as tired as I was in the first trimester. I think this might be because I can't get back to sleep once I've woken up to go to the toilet. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Megadesk63 · 11/02/2018 20:49

@karategirl @Bromeliad glad it’s not just me! I was completely and totally exhausted in the first trimester so in a way I’m comparatively less tired as I can keep my eyes open past 8.30pm! and I think it is down to peeing in the middle of the night as I then don’t get back to sleep for ages - I’ve resorted to a podcast with a soothing voice to listen to when trying to fall back to sleep but it wakes OH up which makes him super grumpy!
I’m the same with having people over - had some friends for dinner a couple of weeks ago and I always love seeing them but for the first time ever it got to 10pm and I was internally thinking ‘oh please go home!’. I’m impressed your husband was up till 3am, haven’t been able to do that since I was a student!

karategirl · 12/02/2018 20:54

@Megadesk63 Trust me, he regretted it afterwards! He basically did nothing all day on Sunday. I, of course, was not at all entirely sympathetic about his sore head... Grin

Winterfellismyhome · 13/02/2018 17:51

20 week scan tomorrow. Havent felt bean move so really worrying

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 13/02/2018 20:54

Try not to worry about not feeling them @Winterfellismyhome I've read that it's sometimes 25 weeks before you feel anything. Unless you've already felt something?

I think I felt fluttering last night, definitely couldn't tell you if it was baby kicks though. It was little little bubbles inside me, only noticed because I was laid down and still though before going to sleep.

Winterfellismyhome · 13/02/2018 21:07

@lifechangesforeverinjuly

Im not sure if ive felt anything and passed it off as gas or wind tbh. Im quite chunky so that might have an impact 🤷🏻‍♀️

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 14/02/2018 07:03

Same as me then @Winterfellismyhome definitely don't think I'll know what a kick feels like for weeks yet Confused!

NotEnoughHandCreamInTheWorld · 14/02/2018 12:06

Hi there ... late as usual! I'm due the 1st July with dc2.
Had our 20wk scan on Monday and all looks fine, and like a girl. Ds (4yo) is spectacularly unexcited by the whole thing.
Nice to meet you all!

Winterfellismyhome · 14/02/2018 13:27

Had my 20 week scan. All looks good. Need to go back so they can check the heart properly because she turned over halfway through and blocked the view lol. They also think its a girl

Welcome @NotEnoughHandCreamInTheWorld Smile

southpacificgoat · 14/02/2018 16:12

Hello all, I joined right at the beginning but then worried I was going to jinx things and have since just been lurking. I have finally told my family, friends and colleagues as well, so thought I may as well join in here again too. I am due on 19th July with #2. Lovely to hear that people are starting to have their 20 week scans now! It is all starting to become a bit more real. Mine is not until early March but I am already looking forward to it with delight and trepidation in equal measures. I had a massive scare early last week when I started bleeding at just over 16 weeks. I was so sure that suddenly all was over. An awful feeling because I had started feeling the baby move at 15.5 weeks. Suddenly I could not feel it anymore. I got checked out in MFAU the next day and they could not see the source of the bleed. All was well, but of course I was then on edge because of the sudden lack of movement. Last night, lying down I could feel the baby again, so am much more relaxed again. I spoke to my friend who is a midwife and she said that at that stage babies often hide very low down in the pelvis, which makes it hard to feel movement. I certainly can believe my baby was preferring the basement in the last week. I felt as if I was balancing a cannonball on my pelvic floor. Also, for those who worry that they haven't felt any movements yet, it took ages for me to feel anything with my first. I am sure it was around 22 weeks before I knew he was in there. His placenta was anterior so made his movements less obvious throughout pregnancy - well until you could actually feel and see him turning over when running out of room.

karategirl · 14/02/2018 22:09

Glad your scan went well @Winterfellismyhome, and hello @Notenoughhandcreamintheworld and @southpacificgoat

I've not had my date through for my 20 week scan yet, but hopefully it'll come through in the next few days. In other news, I've now been prescribed cyclizine and I DIDN'T THROW UP TODAY!!! Grin

InstructionsRequired · 15/02/2018 20:16

That sounds really scary @southpacificgoat thank goodness everything is ok.

Had my 20wk scan today, amazing to see how much the little one has grown since the 12 wk scan and fascinating to see all the organs and bones so clearly. Also looks like we’re having a girl! I was convinced she was a boy but delighted with a healthy looking baby and can now start to narrow down names.

(Is anyone else whose been told they’re having a girl worried it will turn out to be a boy with teeny genitals or is it just me and DH?! Blush)

RaspberryBlonde · 16/02/2018 14:26

Just trying to catch up with thread! Very excited for those of you having 20 week scans. Mine is at the end of the month, but think we are probably going to wait to find out if it's a boy or a girl. Instructions I only know of one person who was told the wrong thing, but the other way around...were told it was a boy and ended up with a girl!

Southpacific we share our due date; how old is your DC1?

Great news that the mess have helped with the sickness karate, did you have them earlier in the pregnancy? Sounds like your reveal with your brothers was lovely, can't believe you managed to keep it quiet so long!

My discovery of the week - maternity clothes are mainly designed to make you look more pregnant.

KTD27 · 19/02/2018 07:22

Morning all. Hope everyone’s feeling well karate Yey for no vomiting! Long may it continue.
raspberry YES! All the trousers sort of stop above my pubes and then are elastic offering zero support to my never flat tummy so I look HUGE! normal pants I barely look more than plump. So silly. But don’t fit in my normal pants anymore so massive it is.
I’m full of 19 week anxiety. We have our 20 week scan next week and barely feeling this one move at all. It’s my second baby (third if you could our loss last year) and that’s definitelt why I’m paranoid. Every so often I feel there’s a something but nowhere near as strong as my ds at this point. Maybe an anterior placenta? As long as baby is ok I don’t care. Is hard though. Am going to ask for extra scans as I’m very nervous about this pregnancy. Think my consultant will be ok with it she said she’d give me whatever I needed. Love that woman.

Minster2012 · 19/02/2018 13:54

Hey everyone, hope everyone is feeling ok, 20 week scans that’s awesome, KTD27 I think we are going to be consultant led too as the midwife, who we met on Thursday says they do that for IVF babies and bearing in mind it’s mine & DHs baby growing in my best friend she can’t go on the previous bump/weights/growth of my friends other babies as it’s not the right genetics & we are v different (she is tall & her DH not, I am average my DH 6’5!) so best to have extra scans which we’d like!

We got a good strong heartbeat so all good with baby.

At the weekend we put on Facebook the wonderful thing my friend is doing to explain things & why I will turn up with a baby at the end of July & why she’s pregnant! We were inundated with love & best wishes and ppl saying how amazing it is. So much love! So glad it’s out there now!

She is finding it hard going back to sleep once waking up & she’s getting restless now.

On a different note as she was missing wine & drinking I found a site which I bought her some non alcoholic wine & prosecco & even G&T and she says it’s really good!!

The website does have hefty postage £7, but the prosecco she says is fab, it’s drydrinker, the prosecco is scavi +Ray abd I also got her 2 of the merlots £8 I think and one of the more expensive £13 reds & the rhubarb gin & g&t. Her DH drank a glass of one of the merlots without realising it was non alcoholic!! 🙄 so if you want a drink it has s good recommendation!!

Heregoeseverything · 19/02/2018 14:16

@RaspberryBlonde I agree re maternity clothes but it's a tough call - I am painted into my non-maternity dresses and people started guessing I was pregnant due to material stretching with bump, so I switched to much more forgiving maternity dresses. Met a friend for coffee and told her I was pregnant and she said, "I know, you're wearing a maternity dress" ! Grin

@KTD27 Sending you empathy, I've been very anxious about my 20 week scan. Was only feeling faint flutters which in large part could conceivably have been wind (!) - only started feeling more confident they were movements around the 20 week mark (which was 2 days ago!). I have an anterior placenta, and so do around half of women I believe. I had my scan this morning and whereas I do need a re-scan as she wouldn't let them see her heart and face, she was definitely in there and moving away!

@karate So glad you're a bit better on meds!

KTD27 · 19/02/2018 14:56

minister hats a great shout! I’m totally craving booze so I’m going to check that it now.
heregoes thank you I’m pretty sure I have an anterior placenta or at least that’s what I’m clinging to!!!

Heregoeseverything · 19/02/2018 15:15

I was where you are literally a few hours ago, @KTD27 ! It's such an anxious time. I felt like I might throw up just before the scan (and only partially because of my DH's dodgy driving Grin ).
