Ooops!

elkiedee · 20/04/2007 15:11

Congrats to the new arrivals - or their mums, I guess I shouldn't be jealous since I'm not even due until Tuesday.

Cats are both back on the bed, it gets all the afternoon sun so is nice at this time, wish I could snuggle down back with them (just a problem of rather visibly stained duvet, cover is in machine).

Very sad, I am, but watching Location Location Location (recording from this morning) wondering what someone really young needs of these huge houses (one was 5 rooms with a self-contained flat in the basement to let out) she could afford in York at the time this programme was made. I come from Leeds and York's a beautiful place. I now live in London and I'm convinced that we need to move back to Leeds by the time baby is due to start school, as I can't see how we'd ever afford to climb from our first rung of the ladder, very small two bedroom house.

CaptainDippy · 20/04/2007 16:22

Oooooh, I feel soooo naughty - I am MNing from a Police Station!!!!!!

Don't worry my raging PG hormones haven't got me into serious trouble (yet!) - I am waiting for DH to finish up some work and then we're going to go and pick up the DD's and go home together .....

Hee! Hee!

Just done some good shopping - bought essential foody stuff, gorgeous top from Topshop in the sale (yippee), couple of Birthday presents and some black flipperty flops ..... super ..... feeling a bit more like my normal self now .....

Congratulations!!! - To LuceWheel and to Zazas (AT LAST!!! ) ... Wonderful news ..... Sienna Grace is a lovely name, zazas hon, sounds like a wonderful birth too - good for you. Looking forward to hearing more from you both and seeing cute pics etc etc Oooooooh, it is all so lovely - WHEN'S MY TURN!!!!!!!?

Mmmmmm, runny, difficult one - Yes, it probably is something you should have nipped in the bud sooner, but is not too late - Just correct people, it is the only way to do it. We have something similar with DD2, she is Sophia and the amount of people who call her Sophie drives me nuts - I just make sure I correct the mistake everytime cos they are two totally different names, imho!!! Not that Sophie isn't a v.nice name, it just isn't her name!!! Rah!! Just tell everyone they are Joshua and William, do be prepared for the odd blip though, we're only human, after all!

Mmmmmmm....

Whoops - apologies for mentioning Angel Tots, Bugmum ... Hee! Hee!

Glad the witch hazel is wonrking a treat nutty - wonderful stuff imho!!

Woowzers, LLL, pretty traumatic birth experience, [[hugs] to you hon - Well done for getting through it, and I sure you will agree, it was all totally worth it though, eh!!?

Anyway, DH is ready to go, so gotta scoot, people coming for tea ...... Eeeeeek!

Katy44 · 20/04/2007 16:26

Please can someone send the last couple of group emails as I've missed them!

aprilmeadow · 20/04/2007 16:49

just wanted to congtratulate sospl. lovely quick birth!! beautiful names as well

eca · 20/04/2007 18:45

hey folks!!

congratulations to SOSPL, Lucewheel and Zazas! (so pleased you got the homebirth you wanted Zazas!!) I think that's everyone who's popped since me, sorry if i've missed anyone!

So, for those who want it... the birth story!!...

Well, it all happened so fast for us. I didn't really believe this was it until it was nearly too late!! The midwife nearly didn't make it!! I'd seen her the day before and she tried to do a sweep and couldn't even reach my cervix, said it was very unripe and that probably nothing would happen in the next couple of days etc. And so when I started getting contractions I ignored them (thinking perhaps I was imagining it etc etc) and waited for the action to evaporate! I was still thinking "surely this can't be it" when they were 3mins apart! I thought I'd put Desperate Housewives on at 10 and the distraction would be the end of it. Got to 10.20pm and suddenly went VV grumpy and felt like I couldn't cope, remembered what the NCT classes said about transition and was horrified to suddenly be wanting to push!!!

Dh called midwife 10.30pm and the two on call were the furthest away (25mins). She said she'd be on her way asap. 10.45pm waters went with a bang and urge to push was overwhelming. Dh rung her again to see where she was and was instructed under no circumstances to let me start pushing (which - of course- was exactly what I wanted to do). Then we had 35mins of waiting, me trying to breathe, dh trying to make me breathe, and a lot of desperate prayers to God that the mw would get here on time! She got here at 11.20, 2nd midwife at 11.40 and Torrin arrived at 12! They estimated labour had been about 7hrs.

There was no time for any pain relief, so I got by on tens and flower essences! Madness.

The gory bit... I had an internal tear because he had his hand by his head. mw said i wouldn't have torn if he hadn't. But, mercifully they decided not to stitch it. Now i've developed a haematoma (sp????) swelling which is incredibly painful meaning i can hardly walk round.

But I'm totally loved up with baby Torrin now and still haven't slept! He's adorable!

Lots of labour vibes to all who want them!! I think the RLT definately had an effect and also I had a few baths with Clary Sage in and reckoned that helped things along.

xxx

Wow, so many babies!!!

Congratulations to SOSPL, eca, zazas, lucewheel and anyone else I've missed. Beautiful names too.

maveta - just seen your message about positive birth stories in Spain. I must admit I still can't quite believe it myself. I think my 'matron' was some kind of angel. The rest of the medical profession lived down to expectations. This was my conversation with the obstetrician on his rounds a few hours after I gave birth and KICKING afterpains were in full throttle (after he'd just sent DH out with a mere gesture of his thumb over his shoulder):

NURSE: She's asked for some hot water to put in her hot water bottle.

DOC: What d'you want hot water for?

ME: Because the hot water bottle really helps my afterpains. (And you lot haven't given me more than a paracetemol for them).

DOC: No, that won't help.

ME: Yes it will. Afterpains are the same as contraction and period pains and a hot water bottle on my legs really helps.

DOC: No, you're wrong (shakes head).

ME: Well I've been having periods for over 20 years, so I should know.

DOC: No (shakes head more vigorously).

This went on for a while. At least his female junior had the grace to look embarrased. Eventually, seeing he was getting nowhere he said: It'll give you a thrombosis.

What, in the thighs???????

Can't fault them on their medical care, but their after care and pain management was dreadful. Which makes me midwife seem all the more incredible.

EllieKthePA · 20/04/2007 20:20

Also, Octo, wanted to say how pleased I am for you re the school situation.

Runny, gorgeous pics of William.

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments, and to my lovely ttc buddies who dropped by. Really appreciate you all and your friendship.

All ok here, but totally knackered!!

Will email some pics over the weekend.

Labour vibes to everyone still waiting.

Lots of love, Claire xx

CaptainDippy · 20/04/2007 20:36

Boo! Good evening! Well, BF and her LO's have gone and our two are fast asleep, completely knackered. Dinner was good and the 5 children didn't create too much mess and devestation, which was a surprise. All tidied up now, so time to reeeeelaaax! Hurrah!

Poor, poor Ellie - she's had one hell of a night / day - Matthew (her oldest) has got a dirty great splinter in his foot and she was up in the middle of the night trying to get it out with him screaming and kicking and generally being a PITA!! She had to call Andrew (M's dad) to come over about midnight in the end and he lost his temper with him too - Absolutely chaotic nightmare..... Took him to the nurse / dr today to see if they could try and extract it and after 2 attempts, they gave up too. Have told her that it will just have to wait to come out by itself .....

Argh!!

All that on top of just having had a baby!!

So there you go ......

Emmymummy · 20/04/2007 20:44

Boo to you too CD!

Ellie, sorry to hear you've had such a crappy night. Kids are such drama queens when they have minor injuries aren't they? Em is exactly the same - she's had a few small splinters recently and you'd think I was trying to murder her when getting them out. I have ended up taking the same 'stuff you then' type attitude as you eventually with a couple of them as the fuss is just not worth it. The best thing I've found is to leave them to soak for ages in the bath as sometimes they just float out by themselves (although Matthew's sounds like a big splinter, so maybe not). Anyway, hope you manage to get some rest tonight.

Clarice - nice sympathetic Dr, just what you need after giving birth! Why do they have this kind of attitude?

EllieKthePA · 20/04/2007 20:48

the doctor kept refering to it as a tree
