Welcome adorkaboo, congratulations! Hope you get your home birth! I just thought I'd let you know that your personal details are visible on the photo you posted so you may want to report your post.

Doublechocolatetiffin · 04/01/2018 21:52

Hello!! Sorry I haven’t been back here for ages. Ladypug put up a call for help on the Facebook page. If anyone wants to join, send me a PM with your email address and I can add you to the group. It’d be lovely to have more of you over there.

Baby is booting me as I write this so all seems well here Grin

cautiousoptimist1 · 05/01/2018 06:47

Thanks tiffin I've sent you a PM this morning.

Wineandpyjamas · 05/01/2018 07:44

Thanks tiffin - I've sent you a PM. Welcome adorkaboo how is everyone this morning?

HandbagFan · 05/01/2018 08:27

Thanks cautious - we’re delighted to be having a second healthy baby and think it will be lovely to have two boys close in age growing up together. But you’re right that a lot of people thought we’d have a girl - and are already asking if we’d have a third almost as if this new baby isn’t enough for us! Ho hum...

Welcome to Adorkaboo!

Lovely scan photo LadyPug - mine aren’t so clear due to BMI!

So, to join the FB group or not... I don’t put anything up about DS on social media at all so it seems a bit weird joining a FB group even though I know it’s private etc... I don’t even follow groups we go to etc to keep 100% silent on the subject... but are you all going to leave me here by myself if I don’t join in? I’ll have a think...

Wineandpyjamas · 05/01/2018 09:31

I'll still be checking on here HandbagFan! Want to join fb group just cos that's where I spend more time but I get it's not for everyone.

Needmorehands · 05/01/2018 10:22

@handbagfan - I'm not in the FB group either. To me the whole point of MN was the anonymity, which is the complete opposite of FB! I discussed bump on here months before more than 6 people knew about it in real life. SO I'll still be here if we just have the thread to ourselves :D
Hi Adorkaboo - another home birther here :) I thought my 4th would be my last...

PhoenixDown · 05/01/2018 11:17

Oh my word, it's a boy! DD keeps asking for a sister so it might take a bit of getting used to for her Grin but we're over the moon if a bit shocked as I really felt (totally unscientifically) it was another girl! all OK on scan. Anterior placenta which explains why I've not felt much movement yet to say it's my 2nd!

cautious I'm due 24th - 20+1 today. Finally past half way!

cautiousoptimist1 · 05/01/2018 15:23

All fine with my scan today, baby has long legs! I was shocked when she told me I have another anterior placenta as I've felt lots of movement already and didn't feel movement until 22/23 weeks with DD. According to my notes she's put me down for a growth scan at 28 weeks but she didn't tell me this so I don't know why.

I'm not sure about FB group either but it had really quietened down here so I may see how it goes. I like the anonymity here too.

LadyPug · 05/01/2018 22:35

Hooray cautiousoptimist glad to hear! Congrats Phoenix also! Totally understand needmorehands - for what it’s worth, I don’t really use it like Facebook (no friends, just use it to manage work page and follow a few work related groups) but I’ve quite enjoyed being a part of the group and seeing scan pics etc

Noredwine · 11/01/2018 08:05

I am 24 weeks + 5 now and feeling really tired today! Had a busy week and can't wait for a rest at the weekend - although hubbie away so I have sole huskie dog walking responsibilities all weekend which will keep me from being too lazy as will need to walk for at least 3 hours each day! Don't mind the walking actually when I am doing it - 1.5 hours a time is about all I can manage now - but afterwards legs and bum ache and I feel pooped! Pip squeak now starting to wriggle more frequently in the day and evening time - feels ever so weird - like a big fish turning over in my tummy! But I love it. Having gone from not buying anything until a couple of weeks ago I am now stocking up on all sorts in the sales!! Need to watch that I don't blow all out money!! Grin

Needmorehands · 11/01/2018 14:49

With you on the shattered-ness Nored, I have no idea how you're managing to walk 3hrs a day with your husky, I decided that dropping the kids off at school in the car because I needed to do errands and nothing to do with it pouring down was a viable reason not an excuse yesterday!
Only 22+1 here and starting to get a return of the SPD I had last time :( was really hoping to dodge that bullet this time around. Luckily I've had 2 days off work so have managed to make naps a priority! DH back either late tonight or tomorrow morning so looking forward to that

Chipsahoy · 12/01/2018 16:04

Hello all. I am not on the Facebook page either as don't use social media. Just mn.

I thought this group had all moved, so good to see people posting.
We are also team blue. I'm 24 weeks today!

#Noredwine
I'm the same, I hadn't bought anything but then in sales I've got almost everything. Crib, travel cot, bouncy chair, clothes, muslins, nappies, wipes, breast pads, bedding, pram. It's nuts.

I have a growth scan next week as my baby is measuring a bit small. Consultant isn't overly concerned and hopes to discharge me to midwife care and a hb after the scan. Fingers crossed.

#Needmorehands Oh no on the spd, my friend had that, it is awful. Will you get any assistance/ physio to help?

HandbagFan · 12/01/2018 18:30

I have bought precisely two outfits for DS2 - I have everything from DS1! I do need to sort a double pushchair out but think I’ll go second hand as it’ll only be for 6 months or so (2yr 3m age gap).

Feeling poorly today - aches, blocked ears, sore throat, fuzzy head - and feeling very sorry for myself! Luckily DH was Home early from work today and I got a nap while DS1 did. Would quite happily go to bed right now...

Noredwine · 13/01/2018 15:31

Currently in warm bath after 2 hour husky walk and don't reckon they are going to get their second walk today as pooped! Feeling very sleepy - my dream genie pillow thingy arrived from mothercare sale today along with half price Motorola baby monitor (currently charging to see if works) so looking forward to a sleep with new pillow tonight! Also bought a nappy bin which arrived too - bit of an extravagance but in sale and our bin is tiny and decking to wheelie bin sloppy and don't fancy overflowing bin of smelly nappies or dogs getting hold of them!! Bought a manual expressing pump set too although hoping it will stay in the cupboard for first 3 months. Looks like torture contraption!! Off to lanzarote with my mum in a week's time - can't wait! Even if rains there is a little spa so can just chill out and sleep and eat and read for a whole week! Bliss!

Noredwine · 13/01/2018 15:38

Needmorehands - sorry about the SPD - can you get an appointment at osteopath to help?
Chips - welcome! X

SoaksAndNaps · 14/01/2018 09:58

Hi All, I'm new to this and am so chuffed to find everyone here in the same stage as me! I'm 23+6 with a little boy due on the 7th May! Just wanted to say hi to everyone and it's been so lovely to read everyone's experiences on this! X

Noredwine · 15/01/2018 13:07

Welcome soaps and congratulations! It's a bit quieter on here than it was as a lot of the ladies have gone on to the private Facebook page. But some of us are still posting occasionally!
Hope all good with your pregnancy. I had a little scare at weekend as pip squeak stopped moving very much (well I couldn't feel anything) after having had regular twists and turns. Eventually called midwife on Sunday and she told me to go in and they found heartbeat straight away and all fine but was great to get the reassurance - i think pip squeak has moved so back facing my placenta which is anterior so that is why I am not feeling as much as I was. Had a few squirms last night and odd light flutter today so think all is ok! X

Noredwine · 15/01/2018 13:08

Oh and I am due 29 April (was originally 3 May hence why I am on this group!) it's my first so reckon I will be late anyway and still fall into May! I am having a surprise! X

TheCaptainsCat · 15/01/2018 23:07

Soaks, we are due date buddies, I'm due on 7th May, having a boy too! 24 weeks today!! Is this your first baby?

cautiousoptimist1 · 16/01/2018 09:01

Welcome soaks and chips.

Sounds like some of you have done really well in the sales! I still haven't bought anything. A friend has offered me her double pram to try if I want to closer to the time and I'm going to buy a fabric sling. I also want baby to have some outfits that are just for them rather than all from DD!
I do want to get baby's room ready before they arrive too, can't imagine trying to sort it out with a toddler and a newborn! We put DD into her own room at 4 months when she outgrew the Moses basket. When did any other second timers move toddlers out of a cot? DD will be 23 months when baby arrives and I don't necessarily want her to associate baby with taking her cot so was planning to buy another cotbed for baby but wonder if it's worthwhile?

I will have an extra growth scan at 28 weeks (and then one at 36 weeks) and I have an appointment with the consultant midwife at 30 weeks I think it is.

Needmorehands · 16/01/2018 18:37

Hello again, been busy at work but very ready for a quiet evening on the laptop and an early night now!
Welcome Soaks :)
Hope everyone is feeling better now.
The SPD seems to have eased a bit - maybe baby was just in an awkward position... who knows!
I asked DH if we needed a baby monitor as I flicked through the brochure for the Lidl baby event, his reply "No, I've got a spare webcam we can use!" no points for guessing he is a geek who loves his job!
Fabric slings Cautious - I love my caboo, but also have a lovely rainbow fleece sling which is almost the only thing we hadn't passed on to others when we were done with babies! As for moving into their own room, DD2 stayed in our room until we'd finished building an extension with more bedrooms in when she was about 18months as we couldn't fit her cot in the bedroom with her 3 older siblings! Don't think this one will stay in with us for that long though :D

cautiousoptimist1 · 17/01/2018 14:56

Sorry needmorehands, she's already in her own room but still in a cot rather than a bed. I don't know whether to move her into a bed and then reuse the cotbed for number 2 or to just buy another cotbed assuming it'll last for a few years anyway.

halloumisandwich · 17/01/2018 15:51

Hi all! I'm 21 weeks today with my first - it's a girl and I'm due 30th May. I've sent a quick message to tiffin about joining the FB group. Now we've had the 20 week scan and all is looking good, I've been starting to look at what we need to get, but it's all quite overwhelming - no idea how anyone makes a decision on what prams/cots/monitors to buy! Hoping to pick up what I can second hand to save some money so I need to start making some decisions soon..

cautiousoptimist1 · 18/01/2018 09:10

Hi halloumi. Welcome and congrats on your pregnancy.
My advice would be to consider your needs. For a pram, think about:

  • where you'll use it (off-road will need bigger wheels, shopping centres only will be fine with the little ones.)
  • where you live - you'll want something lighter if you have a lot of steps for example
  • boot size - if you're a driver and would transport the pram, test that it fits in your boot!!
  • do you regularly use public transport? If so I think you'll want something light/smaller that's easy to collapse on your own.
  • do you want to clip a car seat on? (Before I get shot down, it's not recommended for a baby to be in a car seat for a long period but I found it useful for nipping into a supermarket or something). Then you're looking for a travel system or you need to make sure your pram and car seat are compatible (you can buy adaptors).
  • do you plan another child quickly? You probably don't want to consider this mid pregnancy but some prams/travel systems convert to doubles later on to suit a toddler and baby. I wish I'd given this more thought as am now looking at getting a double as I'll have 2 under 2 (just!).

For cots, mainly think about size and location. If you want baby in with you for at least 6 months then your baby would probably outgrow a Moses basket so see if there's room in your room for a side sleeper or a cot or cotbed. If you're already setting up baby's room then you'll need to decide between a cot and a cotbed which will last until they're about 4 I think it is.

I would dismiss monitors for now unless you have a massive house. Baby should be with you most of the time for the first 6 months and you can decide in that time what you want/ need and where it will go.
