Congrats flipflop!!! Hurray! I knew you'd beat me Wink hope you are recovering well.

mummabubs it wasn't as bad as I expected, think the thought of it was worse than it actually was!

Ah well, cervix still mostly posterior, so guess I'll just hang on in there until Sunday for my next one....

Hey ho.

xflipflopx · 26/10/2017 15:37

@boxesoffrogs mine was too yesterday. And I cried last night feeling totally sorry for myself.
Hang on in there.

xflipflopx · 26/10/2017 21:11

Baby has a chest infection and is now in itu.
Can’t believe how my day has changed. She’s got to be in for 5 days.
Absolutely devastated she has tubes everywhere
This is so not fair

boxesoffrogs · 26/10/2017 23:51

Oh no flipflop. That's horrible, but she is in the best place for it, just remember that. Thinking of you FlowersFlowersFlowers

Nothing happening here, nothing at all. Except baby happily dancing about.

Bobbiepin · 27/10/2017 00:40

@flipflop these new babies look tiny and delicate but they are so tough you wouldnt believe. Honestly you are the most vulnerable person right now, are you being looked after? Do you have support?

Can baby be fed/breastfed/hand express colostrum and syringed? That stuff is liquid gold and will help if you can get it in.

I really hope you're ok and baby recovers quickly Flowers

TippetyTapWriter · 27/10/2017 00:43

So sorry flipflop. Really hope she makes a speedy recovery. My ds was in scbu for a week with breathing problems and suspected sepsis. It's unbelievably hard but they really are in the best place and the staff were amazing. He had tubes everywhere too. IV fluids and antibiotics. Canulas in each hand and one foot, oxygen canula up his nose and a nasal feeding tube. Plus all the monitors etc. First time I ever held him he had an oxygen mask over his face too and all the machines kept beeping and I was so paranoid about knocking a canula etc. He's a strapping healthy 2.5 yr old now and you'd never guess he'd ever been ill in his life! Sorry I'm just rambling really but I've been there and my heart goes out to you xx

xflipflopx · 27/10/2017 02:36

@TippetyTapWriter you have basically just described what she now looks like. We was an hour away from going home.
At least the antibiotics were started quite quick so she wasn’t allowed to get too poorly.
It’s so heartbreaking.
@bobbiepin I’ve tried to hand express but there’s nothing coming out they said they may be able to give her to me tomorrow to try and feed her but only if she’s got good readings as they don’t want to stress her lungs. My dh is looking after our dcs at home and will come to to see me again tomorrow.
I think this is the worst bit the middle of the night when your brain has time to think about what the hell happened today. Woke up...straight into labour baby here within 4 hours of first pain. (Other two were 24 and 12) had a lovely day and then the shit hit the fan.
It’s just the most horrible thing I’m on the ward with all the other babies awake and crying and my baby is away from me.
I’ve actually only just realised I have quite a tummy ache and have had it for a bit no surprise what has just come out of there but strange how I didn’t even feel it as I was too preoccupied.
Gona ask for some paracetamol now.

mrsbumblebees · 27/10/2017 02:53

Oh flipflop congratulations on the arrival of your little girl, I'm so so sorry to hear she is poorly, what a horrible situation for you. As others have said she is in the very best place and it's great they got the antibiotics in her quickly. Hopefully she'll be on the mend very soon, in the mean time just wanted to send you a big hug and say I'm thinking of you both. Please keep us posted xx

Bobbiepin · 27/10/2017 03:37

Oh sweetheart that's so tough. I know there's not much that a stranger on the internet can say to make you feel better but know that we are here with you. If you can get some sleep then do but if you're awake maybe ask if you can go and sit with her. I might be mistaken but I think NICUs are more flexible with allowing parents in.

Big hugs Cake Flowers

GimbleInTheWabe · 27/10/2017 04:22

Congrats @xflipflopx on the birth of your lovely girl and I’m sorry to hear that she’s had a bumpy start. These newborns really are so much tougher than you think and she’ll be getting the best care possible. My DS was treated for a suspected infection when he was 3 days old and also ended up pretty high tech with tubes and beeping machines hooked up to him and it looks scarier to us that it is for them.

Your brain has so much to unpack, i actually found writing it all down really helped me. I wrote down my labour and how I felt and what happened after. It helped me understand what had happened and get my head around it all.

Soon you’ll be out of hospital and this bit will seem like a distant memory. Take advantage of having a midwife there when you need them and ask all the questions you want, that was the one positive of my DS going back in to hospital was getting loads of advice from the nurses.

TheLegendOfBeans · 27/10/2017 07:44

@xflipflopx

Congrats on your new arrival and sorry to hear she’s needing that little extra help.

DS sounds like he was in a similar state to your DD and we ended up discharged day 5.

It’s a cliche but you’re in the best place.

mrsbumblebees · 27/10/2017 17:09

How are you both doing today flipflop? Thinking of you x

xflipflopx · 27/10/2017 21:57

Hi all
Well today didn’t start out great they were saying the need to lumber puncture her to rule out meningitis but consultant eventually said there’s no need as all her other signs were ok.
Phew...she is still breathing very fast but everyone is insisting once the antibiotics kick in she should be ok.

What an nightmare...the worry really does start from the second their born!
If there is a bright side I have been moved to a sideroom with own shower and toilet plus no more snoring ladies so should get some sleep.
All the best to everyone on their own unique journeys
@boxesoffrogs anything for you?

Bobbiepin · 27/10/2017 22:16

No LP is a great sign, and your own room is a very good shout. Give you the time and space to process what's going on. Have they given you a time line of when they expect things to start changing? Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon.

xflipflopx · 28/10/2017 07:54

She is out of icu and in the ward with me now. They have just done some infection marker blood tests and if results have gone down their happy antibiotics are working and we can just do the 5 day stint but if markers gone up again they will lumber puncture her today to make sure no meningitis.
I honestly don’t know how the docs do this stuff day in day out! Amazing people!
I’ll keep you updated

Bobbiepin · 28/10/2017 08:50

Amazing news @flipflop so so pleased she's on the mend. Make the most of the ward staff too, lots of them are happy to have a cuddle for an hour or so if it helps you sleep. How are you feeling?

boxesoffrogs · 28/10/2017 11:38

xflipflopx so glad to hear that, hope she continues to get better today!

No signs here. Had curry last night, pineapple for dessert, long walk with the dog and nada.

Getting a bit worried now... ah well, sweep no 2 tomorrow morning, such fun!

boxesoffrogs · 29/10/2017 08:06

Feeling upset this morning, about to go for sweep no. 2. Feel like this baby is never coming out... Sad

TippetyTapWriter · 29/10/2017 08:12

It can't be long now boxes, any day. Good luck!

tamepanda · 29/10/2017 08:58

@boxesoffrogs I felt the same way until 90 mins ago when things suddenly started getting very sore and quickly!
I had my second sweep just before 12 yesterday and it didn’t really do much for until about 4:30 this morning!

Fingers crossed for you that things start happening for you today as well!

butterybean · 29/10/2017 21:36

Hey Boxes,

I was due on 17th, still pg. Had second sweep today and some monitoring but still nothing. Induction on Wednesday if nothing before then.

Hope youre ok Flowers

mrsbumblebees · 30/10/2017 06:22

Any updates ladies? Thinking of you all! x

boxesoffrogs · 30/10/2017 06:33

No 😫 second sweep yesterday. No signs. Grumpy and fed up. Dp keeps suggesting sex, nothing could be further from my mind right now. After all those growth scans and the 'oooh your bump is sooooo small' blah blah blah, I now feel like the bloody titanic. Wake up every time I try and move in my sleep now.

Induction booked for Saturday if nothing happens... Dp's parents fly in on Friday.... I know these things happen, but had 'we had planned ' it so we would have had a few days ourselves with the baby before they got here. Now I am feeling a bit sad that that won't be happening. So much for an October baby, eh. Ah well, at least I am not back at work today like other teachers.

Any news lamepanda or butterbeans?

boxesoffrogs · 30/10/2017 06:34

Sorry, I meant *butterybeans'!

mrsbumblebees · 30/10/2017 09:23

Oh no, sorry to hear that boxes - very frustrating. Hope baby doesn't keep you waiting too much longer! As another member of the small bump/multiple growth scan club I can say with confidence now that It's all rubbish - Thea was 8lbs 1oz!
