@Gemxo Please don't worry! I'm under the mental health consultant as well as the diabetes clinic and classed as high risk. I've suffered anxiety in the past and panic attacks. They are only looking out for you and your baby and extra monitoring can only be a good thing! I'm also a Social Worker and can guarantee you we have much more to deal with than people who have had and managed a mental illness in the past! Please enjoy your pregnancy and stop worrying although I know that's probably the worst thing you can say to someone who has anxiety

Ah emzwell, MN is terrible but also awesome! You'll develop a tough skin to some things on here eventually, (or else jump ship to netmums ).

I love the cakes and I consider myself a (fairly) hardened mumsnetter! I'm too introverted to do anything like that, but I absolutely love that people get to celebrate whatever the hell they like in their pregnancies. If people don't like it, they don't have to read about it or attend any parties.

I was also ridiculously excited to find out the sex of our baby. We didn't find out last time and I really enjoyed finding out this time, you know, while I wasn't high as a kite on morphene with full spinal block and baby not breathing after a very difficult birth. If anyone fails to understand that, they can frankly go and fuck themselves .

Oh buggar that was poorly timed, considering klaw just said she was a bit nervous about the birth! Sorry! Ours wasn't the norm! And I've come back for more with dc2, so can't have been that bad.

@Emzwell I just read your thread too, sorry you experienced that 🙁 people on here can be Nasty and usually miss the point of the thread! If you hadn't mentioned what the party was for you would have gotten completely different advice, people get so caught up about their own beliefs and opinions that they can't see past it to see the other side of the story. For the record, I think you have every right to be upset with your mum, but at least everyone at the gathering will be there because they want to be and you won't have to worry about tension between your mum and dad as that's the last thing you need!

Emzwell I just read your thread too, sorry you got such a lot of horrible responses. Some people are just rude. Also they completely missed the point you were making! Don't let it bother you and stay with us, we're supportive on this thread not negative

Maybe we could all now comment with boy, girl or don't know and that saves someone going back through checking. I tried to count but gave up after 2 minutes.

Does anyone know when we get a MATB1 form? I thought it was at the 20 weeks scan but haven't had anything, next midwife is at 25 weeks and I thought I needed to hand it into work by then? x

mummyme I think you have to ask your midwife or doctor for one. At my 16 week appoint my midwive told me she could give me one after 20 weeks, so I guess I have to ring and ask her after 20 weeks, I don't think it's automatically sent out.

Have to wait another five months to find out as DH is adamant he wants a surprise!

Boyfriend would have preferred a girl so I'm really glad we found out in advance, to get our heads round it. I'm one of three girls so I'm finding I need a bit of time to get my head round having a son, too.

Boyfriend is very much a man's man, but he was a sweet and sensitive little boy and I think he feels that it's easier to be many different types of little girl than little boy. He also feels that men's roles have changed a lot recently. He will parent differently to his father. I've been reassuring him that a lot of it is up to us, although we can't help the general culture stuff. My mum said a lovely thing to me about it, which was that with a son in particular he gets to rewrite that father son dynamic as he'd do it and see it through different eyes. He doesn't have to be his Dad (who is a lovely man and father, but had his own stuff to rewrite).
