Did everyone get to listen to baby's heartbeat at there 16 week app? Mine is tomorrow and I really want to hear just to make sure baba is ok!

Rosehyd2 · 17/08/2017 18:17

@Gemxo I did but I remember a lot of people earlier on this thread didn't. A lot of places don't attempt it in case they can't hear it as it's still early and they don't want to cause worry.

millsbynight · 17/08/2017 18:55

I did @Gemxo but every trust is different and some do not routinely offer it. The midwives who do do it stress that it's not always possible to find a heartbeat so not to panic if they can't find it.

Gemxo · 17/08/2017 18:59

Ye I completely understand that, it would just be nice to know everything's ok after such a long stretch since 12 week app!

Gemxo · 17/08/2017 18:59

I'm actually gonna be 17+4 at my 16 week app tomorrow🙈 so feels like forever since 12 weeks!

Rosehyd2 · 17/08/2017 19:13

I agree completely! I wasn't expecting to hear mine but at the last few mins she said right pop on the bed let's see if we can find little ones heartbeat.
I was 15+5 at mine so it was ages ago! I'm actually 17+5 now so although it was a fortnight it feels like a month.

MissyJones80s · 17/08/2017 19:34

I'm so glad others are wondering about movement, I'm sure I've not felt anything yet I try to in bed at night but nothing at all aside from occasionally something that is most likely digestion!! Can wait to feel it though it seems so long since the scan so it would be nice and reassuring to feel something !!!

Waitingonasmile · 17/08/2017 19:47

I'm sure anyone not feeling anything will notice it really really soon. It can change so quickly. I could go a few days without feeling movement until 19 weeks and it's baby number 2. Suddenly, it's much stronger and happens all day.

MrsCorr · 17/08/2017 20:07

@waitingonasmile I'm the same. I felt the odd flutter the last few weeks but the last few days I have been noticing a lot more movement. I'm 19+3 with my 2nd baby. I'm sure the rest of you will feel it soon then we can complain when they kick us in the bladder & keep us awake at night haha!

rememberpurpleronnie · 17/08/2017 21:01

Had my 20 week scan today and delighted that we are expecting a healthy girl! Was a big relief as there was a 1 in 50 chance the baby had congenital heart disease after DS was born with a heart condition. Over the moon Grin

millsbynight · 17/08/2017 21:07

That's such good news and what a relief @rememberpurpleronnie !!

Brilliant news rememberpurpleronnie!! Grin

Ruthcarr1990 · 17/08/2017 21:55

Hi lady's been away so not been on, need to catch up on what's been happening!!

Has loads of hip pain while I was away. To the point I considered hiring a mobility scooter!! Will deffo be mentioning it in 2 weeks at my consultant.

Felt lots of flutters and movement over the past week or so. Even felt heartbeat which my dh also got to feel. Xxx

Icantthinkofastupidname · 17/08/2017 22:11

I guess it just depends where you are in the country what you get at 16wks then, seems pretty split. I'm 17+3 today at my 16week. I think my next appointment (is it 24 weeks? Can't remember) is actually in that week tho. 3 weeks tomorrow until 20wk scan. Still seems like so long away. Not finding the sex, but with no movements yet and no attempt to listen for heartbeat at appointment today, it will just be a relief if everything is ok.

MissyJones80s · 17/08/2017 22:23

Thanks wonderful news rememberpurpleronnie Smile

rememberpurpleronnie · 17/08/2017 22:30

Thanks everyone! Sure there will be lots of lovely 20week scans in the next few weeks. It all feels abbot more real now!

SJ1989 · 17/08/2017 23:14

@Gemxo I didn't get to listen to heart beat st my 16 week appointment even tho I was actually 18+2 weeks so surely more chance of picking it up ok! Wasn't a happy bunny!

20 week scan tomorrow!!! Eeek far to excited/nervous!

SJ1989 · 17/08/2017 23:14

@rememverpurpleronnie can news about your scan glad all was ok and you can now relax :)

Gemxo · 18/08/2017 10:45

So I've just come out of my 16 week midwife app, I am so disappointed!! Did not get to listen to the heartbeat even though I told her I am not 16 weeks I'm actually nearlly 18, apparently they don't do that anymore!!! She didn't check my weight either which also worries me? Shouldn't she of done that?

She didn't ask me whether I had been having pains or any issues, which surprised me. It felt like a lot of me asking her questions as she wasn't really telling me anything? Also when my sister had her 16 week app, she was offered a lot of vitamins and little vouchers, nope didn't get that either. Looks like there making a lot of cuts I think as I feel quite neglected!

My next app is 25 weeks, is that normal? I thought midwife apps were every 6 weeks not 8?

I jut feel quite upset with the pointless appointment I've just been to.

Owl1011 · 18/08/2017 10:51

@Gemxo that sounds really frustrating for you! I had my 16 week appointment last Friday and she checked my urine and blood pressure but didn't check weight.

I did get to listen to baby's heartbeat which she found really easily and I was 16+5 then so I'm sure it would have been picked up with no problem if she had done it for you. Apart from my scan at 20 weeks in Sept, my next midwife appointment is at 24 weeks.

Care seems to vary so greatly in different areas, I'm in Wales so we probably have a slightly different system if you're in another area?

rememberpurpleronnie · 18/08/2017 11:17

@Owl1011 @Gemxo
I am consultant led and haven't had the foetal heart beat listened to yet, I am 20weeks. I think they are waiting until later on in pregnancy to listen in as if they can't find it it causes worry. It does seem to vary massively by area though. I've only had one appointment since booking in and it was more of a blood pressure, urine, medication check, so I don't think your experiences are that unusual. Disappointing though when your appointment seems pointless- they do get much more thorough later on!

Maybebaby2 · 18/08/2017 11:24

Great news rememberpurple and congratulations! Smile

Gemxo sorry you had a frustrating appointment. Mine didn't ask me many questions, I asked her more than she asked me. I was trying to remember everything I'd been worried about!
She said I wouldn't see her again till 28 weeks which I think is a very long gap, especially as I hadn't brought a urine sample so that won't get checked again till 28 weeks? Apparently it's because it's my second I don't need an earlier appointment.
At least we have 20 week scan to look forward to!

peachgreen · 18/08/2017 11:26

@Gemxo My midwife did listen to the heartbeat at 16 weeks but only because I BEGGED and promised her if she couldn't find it I wouldn't go to EOU! I think in many areas they don't do it any more as it's not guaranteed and can be very distressing. Other than that she just tested my urine, took my blood pressure and sent me on my way! I have my 20 week scan in September (actually will be nearer 22 weeks) but otherwise I don't have another midwife appointment until 28 weeks!

Maybebaby2 · 18/08/2017 11:34

Forgot to say I did get to hear heartbeat so it must be different areas that decide if they do or not.
peachgreen my next appointment isn't till 28 weeks too. At least I know I'm not the only one, I had thought it was odd to have that big a gap but it must be the norm?

Owl1011 · 18/08/2017 11:55

Thank you @rememberpurpleronnie this is my first so it really sure what to expect at each appointment! Also really glad to hear that your scan went well, wonderful news you are having a girl!

I'm 18 weeks on Sunday but I've been ultra paranoid about every little thing so have booked yet another private scan for next week as September is just too far away for meConfused. I think I'm single handedly funding the place!
