Hi all its been a while since I posted but I've been following along and dipping in and out of discussions for the past couple of months so I hope you are all doing ok!

I am 16+5 with my first pregnancy and still don't think I've felt any movements which is starting to make me feel a bit anxious, especially since my midwife didn't listen for a heartbeat at my 16 week appointment. How do I know when I've definitely felt something that's not my digestive system?! How can I stop winding myself up waiting to feel something?!

pretzelpieces · 21/08/2017 22:08

tortoise easier said than done I know but please try not to worry. I didn't feel movements until 21 weeks with my first (I had an anterior placenta which also makes movements less detectable). This time I have felt some movements but then will go long periods without (presumably then the baby is kicking inwards, they still have so much space at this stage).

pickledprogress · 22/08/2017 07:09

Tortoise as others have said try not to worry I only know it's movement as this is my second bubba - still early day for it too - their so tiny as well with loads of room in their too!!

Tortoise22 · 22/08/2017 08:24

Thanks pretzel and pickled it does make me feel better to know that there are totally normal reasons why I might not be feeling movements yet! I am finding that my midwife appointments are not reassuring me like I was hoping they would, I went in expecting to hear the baby's heartbeat and came out stressing about not feeling any movement yet. I understand the theory that movements are a better measure of health but it didn't make me feel better at the time!

EmilyK83 · 22/08/2017 08:41

Tortoise you're not alone with the worry...at my midwife clinic apparently they don't listen for a heartbeat as standard at the 16 week appointment - and with such a long wait between the 12 week and 20 week scans, I just want some reassurance that everything's still ok, especially in this period where symptoms have decreased and I'm starting to feel a little more human again!

Apart from the constant tiredness. And the spotty face. I feel like a teenager again...

Tortoise22 · 22/08/2017 10:56

Emily it was the same for my midwife clinic, I was really disappointed because of friends in other areas who got to hear the heartbeat at 16 weeks and really appreciated it. It feels like forever between 12 and 20 weeks!

I'm the same with the tiredness and spots too! I always think its so unfair to have both spots and wrinkles at the same time!

EmilyK83 · 22/08/2017 11:44

It's not fair is it Tortoise - I don't understand why it's not consistent across the whole of the UK! My appointment is next Weds and I'm getting married 3 days later...planning on announcing the news at the wedding and really want that reassurance before we do!

With you on the spots AND wrinkles front too...and think the latter is only going to get worse as we get less and less sleep haha!

Tortoise22 · 22/08/2017 12:07

Emily double congratulations to you!! Smile that's such a lovely idea to announce it at your wedding, I'm sure that will make the day extra special for everyone there!!

EmilyK83 · 22/08/2017 12:33

Tortoise thanks lovely! Semi-tempted to try and get a private scan booked in just so I can see whether things look ok, though!

Loxy4527 · 22/08/2017 13:54

Yep, spots and tiredness here too. It's not even 2pm and I caught myself falling asleep at my desk again. Part of my job is drawing storyboards on a computer and I opened my eyes to just see a big squiggle down my screen where I'd drifted off...

pretzelpieces · 22/08/2017 19:21

loxy Grin

Emwahs · 22/08/2017 20:13

Haha loxy that made me laugh. It's been a Hetic day for me today so it's a lazy evening on the couch as the husband is away for the rest of the week.

I have a hen do at the weekend so that's going to really tire me out but it's a three day event :-(

Tortoise22 · 23/08/2017 11:00

Loxy I'm with you, I find it so tough to stay awake in the post-lunch slump at work!! My boss actually caught me nodding off in a meeting last week Blush luckily she has kids and is very understanding!

Thattwatoverthere · 23/08/2017 23:56

Spots and wrinkles here too. My friend knew I was having a girl before I did as apparently girls make you look a bit rotten Grin. And that's before being called fatty and chunky this week at work. Clearly I'm not at the glowing stage yet then!

My midwife won't listen to the heartbeat until 25 weeks either Sad. I do get why but would have been nice to check all was ok!

Private scans are definitely worth it in my book, I wouldn't have said it until I got one last week but it was such a reassurance for the horrible 8 week wait between appointments. And for the odd little pic in 4D where my baby appears to have no legs Hmm. Will get one at about 30 weeks too because I can't wait that long without seeing my baby. I'd have one every week if I could afford it

lookatthemoon · 24/08/2017 05:55

Well sounds like I'm having a girl then! I spent first pregnancy with DS with lovely thick hair and glowing skin. This time I have huge boobs and horrible skin. And I cry A LOT!

Anyone else noticed their appetite ramp up around 16 weeks? I am eating like some sort of starved animal ...

EmilyK83 · 24/08/2017 08:34

lookatthemoon With you on the appetite front! Every day starts with me telling myself it's going to be a nice healthy day...and then I get this uncontrollable urge to eat everything in the kitchen. Not ideal...

Tortoise22 · 24/08/2017 08:47

Same here emily and look, I can't stop eating!!

Sah2241 · 24/08/2017 09:33

Totally agree with the horrible skin, mine is awful at the moment. But on the plus side, my hair is the best it's ever been - so thick and shiny!! I'm getting it cut on Saturday and am thinking of asking for a "cousin it/sia" look to both show off my lovely hair AND cover the awful face 😂😂

pretzelpieces · 26/08/2017 08:23

Quiet on here, is everyone off having a fabulous bank holiday weekend? We went to the beach yesterday, nice weather here. I'm going to a clothes swap at a friend's house today but not actually clothes swapping anything because I've got a bump of course and nothing fits!

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 26/08/2017 08:43

Sah - That made me laugh! I have terrible skin and terrible hair right now. People keep commenting on how tired I look, which is ridiculous as I'm getting more sleep than ever (DH is off work for a few weeks so I have had a few lie ins!). With DS my skin totally cleared up and my hair was amazing (If I had left it a week without washing, it would have still looked fab...obviously I did wash it more because I'm not gross Grin). It started dropping out badly around 4 months after he was born. Now I'm pregnant again I thought it would go back to being amazing, but it's just dull and dropping out everywhere Sad.

Aww have fun Pretzel. I bet the beach was lovely! I wish we lived a little nearer to the coast.

I've had a pretty stressful week. DS was admitted to hospital (he's fine now, poor little thing) then when we finally got home I started bleeding. They checked me out with a doppler on Monday and Wednesday evenings and there's still a heartbeat, but it's been really distressing Sad. Am I the only one who finds pregnancy such an anxious time?!x

lookatthemoon · 26/08/2017 11:38

Oh Coffee that sounds awful! Poor DS - glad to hear he is on the mend. Scary about the bleed - hopefully it is just one of those things. Must have been distressing for you! Hopefully all has settled now? x

Ava1985 · 26/08/2017 11:45

Oh coffee what an incredibly tough week for you and your family. I hope your ds is feeling better and the bleed you had was just a a one off and all okay from here on in Flowers

Hope all you ladies are doing well and bumps growing nicely!

Sickness still lingering for me and I've had a stinking cold to help me along the summer hols Hmm but other than all okay here.

Much love ladies X

lookatthemoon · 26/08/2017 13:14

How far along are you now Ava? Last pregnancy I'm pretty sure I was still pretty sick up to 16/18 weeks. It did go eventually though - and it never came back! Hopefully same happens for you soon! x

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 26/08/2017 15:41

Thank you Look and Ava. It was pretty horrible. I had been running but stopped because it all hurt...then the next day I had a massive bleed. I was in tears on the way up to the hospital and thought I'd done something to the baby, but thankfully there was still a heartbeat. I bled for the next two days, so went back again on Wednesday and things were still ok. Thankfully no bleeding since then.

Oh Ava, I'm so sorry you still have sickness. How miserable. Can they give you anything for it? The cold probably doesn't make you feel great either! Hope you feel better soon x

Tortoise22 · 26/08/2017 16:08

Poor you coffee that sounds so scary. This is my first pregnancy and I've been feeling pretty anxious throughout, its so hard to not know exactly what is going on with the baby. So glad that everything was ok for you in the end.

Ava my sickness has only just passed now that I'm 17 weeks. When it didn't go at 12-15 weeks I was starting to feel that I would be nauseous forever!
