Feck sake, why did shorts weather have to arrive after I've reached the stage of outbumping all my shorts (and I refuse to buy maternity ones now) Confused

Ava1985 · 27/08/2017 17:18

Hi look I'm 15.3 wks now so little behind you..

And thanks ladies looks like light is still at the end of the tunnel ref the sickness then! Had bad sickness with dd (1st baby) and got away lightly with ds... So similar to dd this time! But I didn't have sore boobs at all with dd which I did with ds and I do this time so is a mix really of my two pregnancies so far !

Anybody going to keep the sex of the baby a surprise and not find out at 20 week scan?

Hope everyone is well x

pretzelpieces · 27/08/2017 21:42

coffee oh how scary for you. Glad they checked you out and found the heartbeat. Pregnancy is definitely an anxious time.

tri I've got underbump black denim shorts that I usually wear over tights or leggings so I've been wearing those, is that an option? Get some and then layer them when it's colder?

ava we're going to find out the sex prediction.

TriJo · 27/08/2017 22:51

Pretzel Shorts with tights/leggings is a look I've always absolutely hated on myself unfortunately! Will probably do the elastic band/hair tie trick tomorrow with a pair of Gap shorts that don't quite close.

lookatthemoon · 27/08/2017 22:58

Ava - we're not going to find out the sex either. Didn't know with DS either and then with the excitement of him being born we forgot to look until midwife said 'what did you have'?!🙄

Tri - the hair tie trick doesn't even work on me anymore. I've outgrown all my current jeans and can't get new ones until I fly to Australia this weekend. I am literally wearing yoga pants everyday.

lookatthemoon · 27/08/2017 22:59

Ava - forgot to ask if you are finding out the sex? With a ds and dd you are nicely balanced ...

Sah2241 · 28/08/2017 10:33

All this talk of shorts is making me jealous! I'm more likely to be investing in a maternity raincoat at the moment - clearly I live in the wrong part of the country!!

TriJo · 28/08/2017 11:05

I'm in London - 28-30 forecast today and 25 tomorrow. Will probably wear a dress for work tomorrow though.

Sah2241 · 28/08/2017 11:54

I don't envy you actually, London when it is hot can be very uncomfortable. It's 16 degrees and raining here - maybe I should be grateful...!

NoParticularPattern · 28/08/2017 19:26

Just doing a quick check in to put this back on my watched threads. Took me ages to find you!!

Currently 17+3, midwife appt last week went well- heard the heartbeat and everything! I have my date for my 20 week scan- 14th Sept when I will be 19+6! Seems to be coming up very quickly now!!

With regard to dopplers I have borrowed one. I've found the heartbeat a few times and it's really reassuring for me since I'm yet to feel any movement (still early and I'm fat so dont think that helps). Will be certain not to use it should movements drop or any bleeding happen though. Although I doubt I could reassure myself that easily anyway!!

Currently feeling very fat and I have awful pastry induced heartburn. I never get heartburn normally so this is not something I am used to dealing with!! Anyway at least no nausea now and feeling slightly more energetic too so fingers crossed second wind second trimester is here!!

Ava1985 · 29/08/2017 09:55

Weather been brill here too - in north west! Warm and sunny and not roasting and sticky!

look same here, we aren't finding out the sex! We didn't with the other two either! Can see why people do (shopping for one!) but I love the surprise and the placing bets at the end (I've been wrong twice now though Grin)

Have my 16 week appt today at 15+5. Will have my two dc with me so guessing fm will be a bit hectic. Hope they listen to hb!

tri London is always that bit warmer in the summer, must be a nightmare getting around when hot and pregnant Confused

Much love ladies X

Ava1985 · 29/08/2017 09:56

I meant that bit warmer than the north west ha ha it's obv warmer in general in summer 😂 Baby brain has struck...

TriJo · 29/08/2017 13:15

Ava I'm just glad that both of mine have been due early in the year (my DS was March 2016) so I never have to be 30+ weeks and having to get the tube in hot weather! I can deal with damp feet and winter coats when I'm huge much better than I can deal with roasting hot weather, that'll be the Irish genes.

Got a total of around 4 hours sleep last night, just too warm in our apartment and TfL doing engineering works on the Overground line near us so too loud to open many windows. Feel like I'm going to crash and burn later.

rasmusklump · 30/08/2017 17:25

Hey all. I'm late to the party but can I please join? I'm 16+4 (according to private scan). I found out quite late so only just having my booking appointment tomorrow.

I have two DC already but this will be my first with my new(ish) partner.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed as this wasn't planned but looking forward to meeting this new little person Smile

f1sher · 31/08/2017 15:20

Welcome @rasmusklump and congratulations Smile

I've given myself a right fright today - was rushing to a meeting in Central London, paying more attention to the map on my phone than where I was looking and tripped. Came down hard on my front/side and then a lovely cabbie came to my rescue, scooped me up and delivered me to my office building where I could weep in private.

Midwife wasn't concerned but advised me to pop along to EPU anyway to put my mind at rest, so got husband to leave work and come and join me. Baby and I have been thoroughly checked out and baby is all fine -
we got to have another scan, which was very much the silver living on a shitty day and we saw hiccups in action!

Home now, feeling very tired and bruised and very much aware that I was very lucky and I need to start taking better care of myself...

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 31/08/2017 17:29

Welcome Rasmusklump. Congratulations!

Oh no f!sher, how scary for you. I'm pleased everything is ok with the baby. Hopefully you can have a good rest tonight and wake up feeling a little better. I imagine it's knocked it out of you a little!

Gardenaddict · 31/08/2017 20:41

Hi, ladies. I've been lurking since the first thread started but didn't feel ready to post until now, but I'd love to join (and the FB group if that's possible?).

I'm 18+5 with my 1st baby. DH is very excited and I am sort of getting there - despite this being a planned pregnancy it has felt pretty overwhelming all far.

Anyway, I look forward to taking part rather than just reading from here on!

I see quite a few of you are still running - is anyone else still trying to keep up their pre pregnancy exercise routine? I do lots of Pilates, and am sticking with my regular class rather than a pregnancy one, bit instructor is aware so tailoring things where necessary now.

TriJo · 31/08/2017 22:51

With something like Pilates you should be fine as long as your instructors can give modifications - you would probably find a prenatal class way too easy at this stage. Prenatal yoga didn't really click for me until around 28 weeks with my son tbh.

lookatthemoon · 01/09/2017 09:40

Welcome Garden and Rasmus! *

Garden* I'm still doing pilates and barre too - hoping to go back to reformer classes next week. Last time I did them there was a heavily pregnant woman there and she said she found it really beneficial.

F1sher - how scary - you poor thing! Glad to hear all is well - bubs is well cushioned in there.

Gardenaddict · 01/09/2017 20:13

I'm booked up until early December in my regular class, but figure that I will have to skip the classes from the start of the January term as baby is due 27th Jan and I can't imagine I will be in a fit state with only a couple of weeks to go!

Has anyone else started to think about shopping? I don't want to start buying stuff yet but we are considering going to look at prams tomorrow - purely so we can then watch eBay for a second hand bargain... I'd happily leave all shopping for another couple of months but wonder if waiting until relatively close to the end is a mistake. Second (and third!) timers, what do you reckon?

Snozwanger · 02/09/2017 08:03

Hello ladies, just catching up on this thread again after a while (been following the Facebook group too).

Hello newbies!

I had my 16 week appointment on Thursday and got to hear baby's heartbeat which was great.

Those of you with bad skin, I can really recommend tea tree oil. I've used it religiously morning and night and it's really healed up my spots.

As for buying stuff, I've been holding off until I know the sex but I have been researching cot mattresses as wondering whether to reuse DS's mattress due to SIDS risk. Decided as it has a built in waterproof cover that I will and just buy a new moses basket mattress as that one is foam and may not be completely clean/fungus free.

rasmusklump · 03/09/2017 17:31

Thanks all for the welcome Smile

Has anyone found out the sex yet? I went for a private scan when I first found out and they told me they could determine the sex but I resisted. I found out with the other two so really want this to be a surprise. Not sure I'll manage to hold out though!

TriJo · 04/09/2017 11:09

(Im)patiently waiting for 20 week scan! Would have loved to have done Panorama etc and found out early but at the end of the day it doesn't make a massive difference. I suspect girl, DH suspects boy.

My back is fecking killing me this morning, was in Brussels at the weekend and we didn't bring a buggy. Relying on the Manduca for a full weekend wasn't our brightest move when toddler is now built like a tank! (87cm tall and around 12.5kg)

Gardenaddict · 04/09/2017 15:58

We had a private scan at 18 weeks and found out then as I couldn't wait and local hospital were cagey about whether they'd tell us at my 20 week scan (which is actually at 21+2). It's a girl for us - although I am being pragmatic about the (admittedly small) chance they got it wrong.

I wanted to know as felt it would help 'personalise' all the changes I'm experiencing and help us both bond with the baby, which it definitely has. We won't be buying any gendered stuff, though - mainly due to personal preference.

Loxy4527 · 05/09/2017 14:33

Eep! Nearly lost the thread for a mo!

Welcome newcomers :)

Just had 16 week appointment - very boring. Urine and blood pressure checked, nothing else. Met my proper midwife, she's nice.

Starting to realise that I'm not going to get a lot of information about what I should be doing to prepare from the NHS. I think because a lot of the baby apps are American based they give the impression of your "health practitioner" being a lot more involved and more regularly (checking heartbeat, advice on nutrition and exercise etc).

On the exercise, I've been way too lazy the last four months. Was attending the gym earlier this year and doing the odd run but then stopped. I'm thinking I'd like to try the couch to 5k program as a gentle re-introduction to being fit and maybe try out a pregnancy yoga class, get swimming again etc.
