Thread #6 for the chatty mums due in December (or thereabouts!).

As we move into the second trimester there will be more dating scans, gender reveals and burgeoning bumps - and hopefully a reduction in nausea!

Meeshal I second lucozade. Or those hydrate drinks (those lovely blue ones!) and if you can stomach it, suck on normal/flavoured ice cubes.

Bloody children and their germs! Grin

However, hydration is now more important than ever. If NO liquid will stay down, off to the doctors with you.

Zaberwocky · 07/06/2017 12:04

Meeshal if it gets worse, as in no fluid, you need to call 111 who will advise where you need to go in the hospital for a drip, and some anti sickness stuff there.

Do you have any ketone sticks? You could dip your own urine to keep an eye on it.

Meeshel29 · 07/06/2017 12:09

I was gonna call 111 but I don't wanna make a nuisance of myself. I'll see how I get on with the energy drinks and then take it from there. I don't have any ketone sticks although I recently found out you can buy them so I may get some cos with my other two pregnancies I suffered with recurrent UTIs all the way through.
I have a pain in my chest above my right breast and I think it's anxiety cos I'm so worried about being sick again🤦🏻‍♀️
Yes - bloody kids!!!

Thanks for your help ladies x

Oh I actually think boy for southy, I think I was looking at the line above the nub (or what I am assuming is the nub Confused).

That sounds awful meeshel - I would try your MW and see if they have any suggestions.

Sorry didn't notice last page of thread! I don't think you'd be being a nuisance at all phoning 111 meeshel, take it easy and give them a phone if you need to.

Foxglove88 · 07/06/2017 12:25

Meeshel, you're not a nuisance, that's what 111 is for. The number was set up to help people decide what steps to take next. Give them a call x

Foxglove88 · 07/06/2017 12:28

Apparently all babies have a nub, if it points up more than 30 degrees it's a boy. I think that's right anyway!
My guesses would be...
Southy - girl
Tuxedo - boy
Big - girl
The others I'm not too sure about, but I'll put in a guess just for fun!
Glasto - girl?
Bluebell - boy?
Tiptop - boy?

CarlottaJo · 07/06/2017 12:35

I can't even see nubs so mine are all guesses based on nothing really, headshapes!

Definitely ring 111 @Meeshel29 xx

Back from the hospital and everything is good! I was literally only in 10mins in total and I cried my eyes out on the bed as she scanned me and said she could see the heartbeat. They couldn't see any reason for the bleed and Squishy was wriggling around and stretching! Back on Friday for the more detailed dating scan but new measurements put me 2 days ahead! Thank you so so much for all of the support, I'm truly grateful xx

Oh Mary Smile that's fantastic!

dirtygrubbybikerchick · 07/06/2017 13:03

Amazing @MaryShelley1818 ! So glad everything is ok x

Ok girls - I've posted this in the travel section as well but reposting here in case any of you girls can help!

I'm a terrible traveller and frequently get travel sick at the drop of a hat in enclosed vehicles (car, plane, bus, train etc). To top it off, I am a migraine sufferer and being nauseous sets headaches and migraines off.

I usually rely on travel sickness pills for journeys longer than 2 hours, and I'm about to travel (5 hour flight). However, as you know, I'm currently pregnant (and still suffering short spells of morning sickness), and I've been told by 2 pharmacists that I cannot take travel sickness pills or patches whilst pregnant.

Does anyone have any solutions they can suggest? I've tried ginger, sour sweets and pressure wrist bands and still managed to get travel sickness and a migraine that was so bad I had to ditch my connecting flight - and that was before this pregnancy!

AFAIK, the reason the pharmacists won't sell travel sickness pills to me is because they haven't been sufficiently tested on pregnant women. I can't get an appointment with my doctor before my travel date to get proper advice so I'm quite worried at the moment... has anyone who's pregnant been advised by their doctor that it's ok to still take them?

Thanks in advance.

MaryShelley congratulations!! So pleased that it went well :)

Over the moon for you @MaryShelley1818

TootsyBella84 · 07/06/2017 13:24

Ah so pleased for you Mary😍 Beautiful scan!

I got a bounty pack yesterday and it has some pregnacare tablets in it, are these the ones that made people feel more ill? Just so I know and I won't bother taking them 😂

Carley27 · 07/06/2017 13:25

Tootsy I think so.. I also got them but have been put off trying them after hearing others experiences!

OP posts:
TootsyBella84 · 07/06/2017 13:32

Ah I thought so Carley, I will just give them a miss then. I'm ill enough without more help 😂

So out of curiosity I've been looking at how much it costs to hire a birthing pool for a home birth.. After seeing the consultant yesterday she said she is happy to put me back to low risk for now so the idea of home birth is back on the cards! Dh has said he thinks he would rather me be in hospital but will support whatever I choose to do! Anyone else considering home birth? I know we've got ages before I need to start thinking about it all but thought I would start researching now!

Zaberwocky · 07/06/2017 13:35

Dirty yes you can! Avomine is absolutely fine during the first and second trimester, and is an over the counter treatment for travel sickness and nausea.

If you have to, get a prescription from your doctor.

dirtygrubbybikerchick · 07/06/2017 13:36

Thanks @Zaberwocky - I'll look into that!!

Zaberwocky · 07/06/2017 13:37

Oh and Biker nibbling on PLAIN tortilla chips used to help me loads with travel sickness. Like the dead cheap ones from Tesco. None of the others seemed to work as they were too greasy.

LapinR0se · 07/06/2017 13:37

Here is my scan pic, I posted a wee update earlier but it doesn't seem to have gone up.
Everything looks fine thank goodness!
He did say there was quite a bit of brown discharge but could not find any cause apart from a very low-lying placenta.
So unbelievably relieved.
Also had lots of blood taken and felt a bit wobbly so DH took me for a steak and chips lunch afterwards!

Zaberwocky · 07/06/2017 13:39

Tootsy I'd love to consider a home birth, but we're to far away from a hospital for me to consider it. A good hour drive, in good traffic! It'd take ages for someone to get to us in an emergency.

Though DH is still adamant that he could deliver it Hmm ... I'm yet to speak to anyone he's practiced on ...

Zaberwocky · 07/06/2017 13:41

So today, crampy. Totally not hungry. Just ... I can't describe how I'm feeling. Just not right. Like you do before you get the flu!

On a plus note, my DBS has finally arrived Grin so now I can skip merrily away into a town far away from my current job!

Carley27 · 07/06/2017 13:42

Congrats Lapin - lovely scan pic, glad it went well.

You must have a brave DH zaber, I think mine would like to be as far away from me as possible during labour Grin
