Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far.

@Lydia and @Zampa how are you both feeling?

Is anyone else also struggling to sleep through the night? No matter how tired I am I'm always awake from 2am-ish until around 4am. I feel so cheated

theotherendofthesockportal · 23/07/2017 09:50

@JCleRoux I'm struggling to sleep too. I haven't slept properly for months. I thought I was imagining it but my Fitbit confirmed I'm only sleeping between 3-4 hours a night. This helped me to decided to go maternity leave at 33 weeks so I can attempt some rest and relaxation before becoming a mother.

Has anyone had leg cramps? I'm getting them in the morning when I wake up.

lydiangel83 · 23/07/2017 16:14

Thanks all still feeling ropey but made it to Tesco and back for mammoth food shop plus vitamins plus first ever nappy purchase as Pampers were half price! Could see the difference on the food bill! Really been knocked out by this bug:-/

@JCleRoux I am awake almost exactly the same times as you it is horrible. Am in a bad habit of checking my phone at that time, as can't turn light on to read in case wake DH (fat chance!). My friend is GP and she said pregnancy-related insomnia is a thing due to hormones (I don't sleep well at best of time to be fair) but also body's way of preparing you for motherhood! Surely we should be stockpiling sleep now though?!!

JCleRoux · 23/07/2017 18:53

I keep hoping that I'd be so knackered I'll just sleep.

@theotherendofthesockportal no leg cramps over here (yet!). Are they only in the morning?

@Lydiangel83 wow half price for nappies sound like a good deal!

izzibee29 · 23/07/2017 19:58

Hey ladies

My sleeplessness comes and goes but I always seem to need a wee every 4 hours in the night despite wether I have water during the night or not. I am getting lower pelvic aches which can really steal my sleep time if it's acting up.

I've not had leg cramp yet (phew).

Am starting to think me and hubby need to get cracking on the nursery and bulk buying stuff so the expense doesn't hit us at the end in one go. I know it's a while to go but I can't help having a bit of an internal panic about it. Silly really.

Zampa · 23/07/2017 20:04

Thanks for asking @JCleRoux. I had a little cry this morning as I still felt so ill. Barely slept due to coughing and DD was up at 5am (but she was being cute and has really cracked saying "Mama" now so all is forgiven). However feeling better than I was so hoping for a decent rest tonight and then work in the morning.

Hope that you're having a good holiday buttery and that you're also on the mend DuRez.

lydiangel83 · 23/07/2017 21:01

@izzibee29 felt like a bit of a life event, I never usually walk down the baby aisle lol! Can see they will add to weekly grocery spend for sure though!

I've started pregnancy yoga this week to mainly meet local mum's to be bough but disappointed so far. Exercise is VERY tame and mum's a bit cliquey (I missed the first two sessions due to hols). Has anyone else tried it yet and what do you think? I can't tell if it's this instructor or if other classes would push you more than leaning side to side and rotating ankles then wrists!?

lydiangel83 · 23/07/2017 21:01

Sorry to hear you're so rough @Zampa :-/

Topsyloulou · 23/07/2017 21:11

@theotherendofthesockportal I had terrible leg cramps with DS, 3 or 4 times a week. They were always in the middle of the night & would make me scream out in pain. My leg would still hurt the next day. I haven't had any so far this time, only a couple of twinges. Hopefully you won't suffer as badly as I did.

We finally finished DS's room this weekend so on to the nursery next weekend. We've got all the essentials, just need to pick a paint colour & get the finishing touches. We visited friends yesterday & came home with bagfuls of newborn, 0-3 & 3-6 month clothes from our friend's daughter, she's going to be a very well dressed young lady!

lydiangel83 · 23/07/2017 21:13

@Topsyloulou keep hoping for some friends to offer us clothes but not happened so far! Bought a few things on eBay but otherwise will probably be a Primarni baby :-)

GingerHanna · 24/07/2017 17:54

I bought a lot of reusable wipes today. I looked them up ages ago and said I'd get them after summer when the nursery is ready to start filling with 'stuff' but they are 25% off for July so I just went ahead and did it.

Now it feels really real and like the clock is ticking faster every day!

Nursery currently taken over by foster kitties but will have to be moved to a different room for a day soon so we can get the skirting board finished. Then I can sort the room properly.

In other news, scan on Thursday to check up on the myoma and glucose test Friday to see if chocolates binges are to be banned! Hmm

OP posts:
lydiangel83 · 25/07/2017 08:11

I've never heard of reusable wipes @GingerHanna are they instead of wet wipes? The kitty family sounds sweet - love that nursery is getting warmed up with fur babies :-) we still have done so little, building up to buying a pram and hoping I have found a bargainous one in purple too second hand via Twitter!
Is the scan due to your previous / current conditions? Sorry can't remember but would be interested to get my glucose checked as I've been borderline diabetic before

theotherendofthesockportal · 25/07/2017 08:47

Morning everyone,

I am at the hospital awaiting my glucose test, I'm at high risk of Gestational Diabetes - lucky me. Dreading this morning as I'm already starving!

I'm very keen on using cloth nappies for baby. Is anyone else thinking the same? Or able to offer any information?

GingerHanna · 25/07/2017 09:40

Good luck sock! I've got mine on Friday and I'm not looking forward to it.

There is a forum on here under products for nappies which is really helpful. Also, go to The Nappy Lady and fill out her questionnaire. She'll then give you tons of free advice on which ones are most suitable for you. She's also got lots of useful information on her website about the pros and cons etc.

I did a ton of research but have decided against as LO will be at nursery from around four or five months and they only use disposable, so we'd lose the benefit really. Sad

kimblesj · 25/07/2017 10:39

All of those waiting for glucose tests don't panic! I have had gdd in all 5 pregnancies and this time since 8 weeks. If it's managed it can be fine x

GingerHanna · 25/07/2017 11:27

@lydiangel83 Yes, they're instead of wet wipes. Much more economical and environmentally friendly. Have a look here for the details.

Pram shopping is Thursday after work. We know the model we want and it's now in the sale at 25% discount - but there are four versions! Confusing.

Midwife isn't entirely sure why the hospital has flagged me for GDD. I wondered if it was my age (37 next month) but she didn't think so. But LO's stomach was measuring a week ahead on my last scan so she said I might as well get it done anyway. Closest relative with diabetes is half-nephew so not close enough to raise a red flag.

theotherendofthesockportal · 25/07/2017 12:18

I survived the glucose test! I was starting to feel very hungry and tired by the end of it. I did treat myself to a McDonald's on the way home as it might be the last time I can do that for a while. Then back to work for the afternoon.

@GingerHanna thank you for the link to the Nappy Lady. I filled in the form whilst waiting at the hospital and got an automated email from them to say they will get back to me within the next couple of days.

The next bit of shopping for us is the cot.

stuckinny · 25/07/2017 16:11

Morning,

You're all making me very envious talking about nurseries etc. We still haven't found a house so I'll be putting plan B into action: moving and storing furniture so we have room for a bassinet and the bare essentials.
The weather here has been terrible so getting stuff done when I'm actually at home hasn't really happened. I have to get my act together before I get any bigger.

I remember having leg cramps when I was pregnant with DS. I've had one so far this time round but managed to stop it before it got too bad. Fingers crossed there won't be too many more.

I have a doc and scan appointment on Thursday. They want to check to see if the placenta has moved.
Then in two weeks I'm meeting with a new practice. If I like them it'll mean a longer drive but it's more midwife led and I think I'm more likely to get the birth I want. (And the hospital is owned by the health network I work for so hopefully a little cheaper too).

DP doesn't want to do any shopping for the baby, and I mean nothing! It's driving me mad. He's worried about something happening to the baby and then we'll have to deal with all the stuff. I'm determined to be more organised than I was for DS (no car seat or anything when he was born) but he's making it very difficult. I'm buying stuff regardless and hiding it away but it really puts a dampener on things.

AGnu · 25/07/2017 19:41

We've just invested in cloth wipes too. DS2 has had 2 dirty nappies since we bought them which is v unusual for him but did give us both a chance to try them out & even DH agrees they're much better than wet wipes! We got the rainbow premium terry ones.

Is anyone else getting a pressure type feeling in the vaginal area? It happens occasionally when I stand up after sitting down for a while. I'm getting kicked almost constantly so I'm not overly concerned! My DSs found it hysterical last night to shout at my belly after I told them she could probably hear them. Poor baby! She was definitely responding though - my whole belly was shaking! Grin

I'm getting awful heartburn now. I've been using milk & Rennies but the Rennies leave a chalky coating on my tongue. I bought some Gaviscon today so hopefully that'll be better. Pregnancy is so glamourous!

Topsyloulou · 25/07/2017 21:29

@AGnu I had that pressure for the first time today. Felt very strange, hope it's not going to become a frequent thing. Don't remember having it with DS.

Spoke too soon about the cramp, had a really bad attack on Sunday night. Took ages for it to go!

I've developed a lovely red angry rash at the tops of my thighs / groin / hips. It's not too itchy at the moment but is spreading & my bump looks like it could be going the same way so I rang the midwife who told me to go to the dr. Saw the very lovely nurse practitioner who said the rash is nothing to worry about, just got to use some aqueous cream so I'm using DS's diprobase. However I did come away with some antibiotics as the urine dip test was positive for an infection. I have absolutely no symptoms & having suffered with cystitis several times over the years I'm all too aware of what it feels like. She's sent it away to be tested as my sample was very dilute & it was a very positive test for an infection. Another delight to deal with!

JCleRoux · 25/07/2017 22:35

Ive also never heard of reusable wipes. Are they made of cloth?

@AGnu the pressure I felt was in my lower tummy. Not vagina area. How long have you been feeling like this? I've also been suffering with heartburh and have a bottle of gaviscon in my bag, bedside table and desk at the office. I don't like the texture of Rennies and milk just make sure me want to wee.

I have my 20 week scan on Thursday. Am going alone because DH has a job interview 🤞

We are using my DS's old furniture for the baby and I've been thinking of painting a few pieces so that it doesn't look like complete hand-me-downs. DH says I should bother because 'the baby's not going to know' Hmm. Blokes!

GingerHanna · 26/07/2017 07:36

@JCleRoux if you have a look here they explain the different fabric types and which is best for your requirements.

I've gone for the premium terry (rainbow colours) as it's good to poo as well as food etc.

@lydia I am starting pregnancy yoga tomorrow so I will let u know how it goes. Have been getting horrible sciatic pain and am blitzing the house in arrival for in laws so am hurting a lot! Hopefully pregnancy yoga will help. Still don't have much of a bump but lots of flutters and kicks Now! Definitely letting his presence known but that also now puts limitations on how much I feel I can so. Dh has been amazing picking up the slack! Hope all are well. Much love x

JCleRoux · 26/07/2017 11:48

Thanks @GingerHanna I saw the same on google. Good that you recommend them. Will get myself some as well.

Hope you are all having a good day so far

MonkeyPoozzled76 · 26/07/2017 14:12

Hi ladies, I'm a bit late to the party but can I come and join you? I'm currently 21+6 with my first, a boy. I've been very nervous thus far due to a MMC last year with lots of complications, hence lots of lurking.

Pleased to report all looking good this time, although I'm under consultant care due to being deemed ancient at 40yrs! Anterior placenta so I'm feeling kicks but he can be sporadic. I've had very few other symptoms so really not help my nerves.

DH has gone into overdrive reading Which reports and panicking about buying things so we have a pushchair, bedside crib and car seat so far. It's been stressful for me as I've been so worried about something going wrong I'd have happily waited, he doesn't cope with the emotional side of pregancy at all so focuses purely on the practical, it's hard work so be lovely to chat.

I've just started a lovely NCT yoga class and have already met four ladies local to me, we've started are own little whatsapp group and will meet up while the class is off for summer break, so really chuffed as in a new town and know nobody! Motherhippy I've got sciatica due to a degenerated disc which has been playing up loads, yoga is really helping, lots of stretches I can do every day to help and I've also got an excersie ball to bounce on instead of slouching on the sofa of an evening.

Very interested to read about the cloth wipes, I shall do some research into those!
