@Zampa I would have no problem keeping the section date a secret. I think it's important you get chance to recover from having a baby and getting to know the new person in your life.

My sister who is wonderful, has said she wants to come to the hospital as soon as she knows that I'm there. I won't tell her though, I need time with baby and husband.

Topsyloulou · 17/08/2017 20:52

@Zampa glad the scan went well & measuring ok.

I had my fit to fly appointment with the midwife today. DP & I are off for a long weekend in Vienna. We're both exhausted & suffering with this wretched cough but it will be lovely to spend some time as a couple. He's just worked 12 days straight, I'm used to him working away but not for that long. Our last child free weekend was in February, happens to be the weekend I conceived the baby!

Baby was all fine & mw did the fundal measurement. Everyone keeps saying my bump is huge but she's measuring spot on. Mind you DS was measuring spot on the whole way & he still ended up at 9.9lb!

Zampa · 17/08/2017 21:22

Have a wonderful weekend away in Vienna topsy!

Thanks for support re section date. Going to try and have baby to myself for 24 hours but I bet I'm desperate for family company once she's born!

SarahS17 · 18/08/2017 08:05

Thank you for everyone's advice re-maternity leave. Glad everyone's appointments are going well :-) Had my 28week high risk appointment yesterday and they have warned me to prepare for my stomach getting a lot worse so high protein low carb snacks every 2hrs and no normal meals which is sad and will be difficult as I love my food!!
He's measuring 2lb 9oz which seems big to me but apparently is in the 50th percentile which is good. My only worry is that his legs measure in the 47th, stomach 70th and head 92nd!!!! They told me not to worry, but this doesn't seem right...?
Seems like when you hit 28weeks the midwives suddenly pile on the appointments and pressure, I've have appointments and scans coming out my ears and she was very keen on breast feeding. I have very bad atopic eczema, psoriasis and asthma and trying to figure out whether it will help or not as in a way I don't him to get my bad immune system! Has anyone had any experiences of preventing things like this?

Zampa · 18/08/2017 12:22

I wouldn't worry about the different percentiles at this point (and probably not ever). DD has been 50th percentile for most measurements since birth, except her head which is 9th! She looks normal and her head/brain is growing, she just has a narrow skull! The key is that they track the growth charts, I think.

My only comment on immunity is that breast feeding is supposed to prevent/assist issues like eczema but each case is unique, I guess. I know someone whose child had allergies which caused all kinds of skin problems and she had to give up dairy and wheat whilst breast feeding in order for the baby to recover. Definitely something to pick up with your HCP.

lydiangel83 · 18/08/2017 12:55

@SarahS17 @Zampa I agree % are all over the place, data accuracy is low, and babies grow at different rates. Tracking growth probably main thing. Our stats looked very strange but within 'normal' at 20 wk scan and have had 2 private scans since to reassure us all is (hopefully) well

theotherendofthesockportal · 18/08/2017 13:35

@Zampa you absolute love, the bra extenders have arrived :) thank you 😊

GingerHanna · 18/08/2017 13:37

I think we're going to need a new thread soon... shall I set one up?

You're welcome sock!

Thanks for offering Hanna. Happy to leave to you!

funnybeanz · 19/08/2017 17:57

Hi all

I'm wondering if anyone can offer any advice/reassurance? I'm 27 weeks pregnant today, with my first. Throughout the pregnancy I've had increased discharge, used to wear a pad everyday, I've mentioned this to my midwife twice and she just said it's normal. It seemed to stop being so heavy for a while and I stopped using a pad, however the last couple of days I've had damp knickers, the discharge is clear, it doesn't smell but I can tell my knickers are feeling damp and then go to the toilet and there's a damp patch in them. It's not really enough to come through to my clothes although it did get onto my bed sheets this morning, like a little wet patch when I was sat up in bed. I'm now on holiday (in the U.K.) until Weds, it was supposed to be a relaxing break. I've got my next midwife apt on 31st Aug. Do I wait and mention it then? Do I phone the Drs when I get back from hol? Or do I need to do something now whilst on hol? I feel ok in myself, although I do feel like my belly is heavy and I'm getting tired but probably nothing more than normal.

Can anyone offer any advice to an anxious first time pregnant woman?! Thanks a lot x

theotherendofthesockportal · 19/08/2017 18:36

Hi @funnybeanz I am 27 weeks this week and have noticed an increase in discharge. So much so, I am planning to buy some pads.

As far as I understand it's just part and parcel of being pregnant!

Zampa · 19/08/2017 19:06

As sock says, discharge is normal. I've not had to resort to pads (yet) but noticed a couple of times that it's leaked through to my tights. Yucky! But ok!

Topsyloulou · 19/08/2017 22:09

Increased discharge is normal. Just another glamorous pregnancy symptom!

I've had to start wearing full on sanitary towels as my cough is so bad & my pelvic floor is now so weak with baby's head pushing down on it that I'm leaking urine when I coughShock. Some days are better than others, today no leaking, yesterday was pretty horrific & got through a few pads. Hopefully it will improve as my cough gets better, I can't cope with this as well as everything else pregnancy throws at you for another 12 weeks!

lydiangel83 · 20/08/2017 03:03

Sharp pain where baby's head is (I think),
Anyone else had this? Got to go and travel to visit relative in a coma in intensive care tomorrow so don't want to make a fuss if nothing but also pain doesn't feel good :(

Zampa · 20/08/2017 08:00

I don't think you should be in pain @lydiangel83. Give your midwife a call. I'm sure it's nothing serious (and you'll probably be told to rest/take paracetamol!) but worth checking!

I get stabby pains occasionally but nothing persistent.

Zampa · 20/08/2017 08:01

And sorry to hear about your relative. I wish them a quick recovery.

Hazandduck · 20/08/2017 08:14

@Lydia I have noticed either a kick or head butt down in my groin that makes me feel like I'm going to wet myself! I also find the kicks are now getting painful and take my breath away at times (28 weeks tomorrow.) I know you're ahead of me so it is probably normal if we are both finding kicks painful?

lydiangel83 · 20/08/2017 08:17

Thanks guys it was right up by ribs. 111 said go to A&E didn't think to ring midwife but will do so this morning. Didn't do anything last night as have relatives staying and pain subsided as I was on the phone. Just hope no damage caused. It really hurt for probably 10-15 mins and took my breath away. Baby in breach so I think it was where head was but it had moved and at same time I think that the pain went away.

Hazandduck · 20/08/2017 08:35

Sorry it's too early for me on a Sunday, I must've misread your message, I read it as head butts getting painful! Agree with @Zampa, midwife will be able to advise you. Hope today goes well with your relative :( x

Hazandduck · 20/08/2017 08:37

Ah glad you've spoken to someone now and the pain has stopped! It's all so uncertain isn't it. A few people have said I've had a look cross my face like I'm going to throw up, and it's when the kicks hurt or get uncomfortable! I guess this is my punishment for not having any morning sickness! If I'm honest though even when it makes me feel sick, I still love feeling baby in there being a total rotter! X

theotherendofthesockportal · 20/08/2017 09:56

@lydiangel83 I have had pain under my right ribs intermittently for the last week now. After doing some gentle prodding I discovered a round shape there which I can only assume is the baby's head. I promptly stopped providing after that.

All my kicks are still in my lower tummy, so I think baby is lying diagonally across me.

I found this website useful: www.bellybelly.com.au/pregnancy/rib-pain-during-pregnancy/?sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjgvqieuOXVAhXjDcAKHWoIDEAQ9QEIDjAA

Sorry about the huge link I'm on my phone.

I'm hoping I don't have to endure a further 13 weeks of having my ribs head butted.

izzibee29 · 20/08/2017 09:56

@lydiangel83 glad the pain subsided defo be extra aware of how your feeling today. I am sure your relative would want you to look after yourself too.

27 weeks tues and I agree that baby's getting stronger. I sometimes have to stop talking for a moment when they are kick kicking. Did encourage baby yesterday To go for it though as they finally showed their musical preference. We were driving home and the steriophonics came on the radio and baby went mad. So we turned it up a bit. First time baby has decided to have a dance to a song 😊.

lydiangel83 · 20/08/2017 12:45

Thanks ladies midwife said probably baby moving position and reassuring to feel some kicks. She said go to drop in clinic but I won't get there until tomorrow so will see how rest of today goes and pay more attention to movement. Am just shattered and doing 5-6 hr return journey wth DH to see my uncle in hospital :-/

CiCiClementine · 21/08/2017 10:46

Hello, I don’t post that much but find reading all your posts really valuable! Just thought I’d jump in here with a couple of things:

@lydiaangel83 I have had quite a lot of rib pain, quite searing at times! My baby is also lying breech and last week, its head was trapped underneath the top of my left ribs. I followed an exercise which was to stand facing a wall, feet about 40cms away, cross your arms over the top of your head and press against the wall. Keep moving your arms slowly higher up the wall to lift your rib cage up. By doing this the baby moved out and the pain disappeared. Have been doing this lots in the last few days as find it really helps!

And re. discharge – yup, am in this club too! I was worried that it was amniotic fluid leaking but think it’s just past and parcel of the journey we’re on! My comfort is that apparently it makes it more ‘slippery’ so the baby comes out more easily!!!

Hope that helps!
