Oh gawd @1004Rise that sounds frustrating! Hope you have better luck tomorrow... will let you know how I get on with ours on Wednesday. So in continuation of my parenting style, which is 'stick a boob in it, and if that doesn't work, throw money at a John Lewis', I am now the proud owner of a babybjorn bouncer, which I will be trialling tomorrow in an effort to be able to pour my own cereal into a bowl tomorrow morning.
Wish me luck...

Out of interest, is anyone else mixed feeding? Baby has one bottle a day given by DP or whoever might be in to help so I. An gave a sleep. We occasionally have a problem with him overfeeding though, and puking up. It's happened twice now, once again this evening where he has boob, is still hungry, downs a bottle, then starts to puke. I had a baby sitter in today who very sweetly showed us a bath routine, but suggested he have a bottle straight after (not long after a quick stint on the boob). He's puked a couple of times, once in his cot then again as I was holding him up afterwards..and now I'm too scared to lay him down...bang goes my evening nap Confused guessing this is classic overfeeding though, right? It's why I prefer boob but the hourly feeds are Shock😖

mightymouse76 · 29/05/2017 20:09

@EsmesBees Flowers for your mum
Hope you feel a bit better. I'm still on the up/down crying rollercoaster-not sure it will ever end!

EsmesBees · 29/05/2017 20:54

Thanks mighty. I miss her loads but know she would be so proud.

We mixed fed my first with a bottle a day from about 6 weeks, but never had an issue with any coming back up. How much are you giving him? I think we started with about 30ml.

MissMooMoo · 29/05/2017 21:02

Baby boy Moo arrived on 25/05 after a long labour that ended in EMCS.
I didnt know it but my waters started leaking slowly on the 23 and as a result we both had an infection after the birth.
We came home yesterday!

mightymouse76 · 29/05/2017 21:05

Esme thanks that's interesting...sounds like we're giving him too much...60-70ml (basically a whole little premix bottle).
If it's a solo feed after a couple of hours that works, but too soon after boob and it goes wrong. I'll try reducing the top up feeds by half and see how we go

MrsJW15 · 29/05/2017 21:31

What a day. I slept very little, but because of me! I just couldn't sleep. First night with baby so I may have just been nervous. So although I napped I was tired today. And baby has been feeding all day! I'm lucky that she is good at it but it's been a lot!

I'm also on day 4 and a little teary tonight. Then I was worrying about how much she was pooing (or not), although mw says it's fine (there are some advantages to being in hospital for ages).

We also had too many visitors today. When they'd gone we came back to the room and the nursing assistants had made the bed and left it quite high. I tried to put it down without realising where they'd put the car seat and I think I damaged it with the bed. Queue absolute tears and panic. I don't know if it is damaged or not but it looks dented and I think mum is going to go buy another one because I just don't think we can use it. I assume I'm not being crazily paranoid?

@MissMooMoo Hope you are ok! I suspect we may have been through something similar. Baby also born on 25th by EMCS. Baby comes off antibiotics tomorrow and then we can go home!

@mightymouse76 That's a great parenting style!

@1004Rise well done on the nails! Terrifies me!

Ooh exciting @beanturnipandspud - good luck!

Kimmy Schmidt is next on my list - I'm on Jane the Virgin at the moment!

Paige84 · 29/05/2017 21:36

13days old here and settling in for another marathon feeding, he's been going for almost 2 hours now and still going. In the daytime he's a star and feeds for 20-40 minutes and naps for 2-3 hours but from 6pm onwards there's no sleep, hours and hours of feeding and tiny baby rage if I try to put him down. I'm a first timer so just wondering from anyone who's done this before if the random night stints are normal or something I need to worry about? After losing 6% of body weight in the first 5 days, he's now already 9oz heavier than birth weight so I'm reasonably sure he's actually getting milk and it's not a supply issue?

1004Rise · 29/05/2017 21:54

@EsmesBees hugs for today, She definitely would be proud of you! 💐

@mightymouse76 I think she got confused between the feeding position and the walking around doing stuff position, DH greater success probably because he doesn't smell of milk 🤔

Barnes79 · 29/05/2017 22:22

Paige I'm a first timer too but mine does the same - brilliant at eating/sleeping during the day but an absolute devil at night. "Baby rage" definitely sounds familiar... Confused

crazyzooo · 29/05/2017 22:33

@Barnes79 and @Paige I feel you. Have had baby attached to a boob since 8pm.. He falls asleep with a nipple in his mouth and if I try to move him he wakes up in full on baby rage.. Fun night ahead Grin

vanilla8 · 29/05/2017 23:23

After waters popping on morning of 25th baby boy vanilla born 27th by EMCS. Still in hospital, not the best of times with antibiotics and blood transfusions, will try and catch up with thread and post birth story later in the week I hope

Congratulations @MissMooMoo and @vanilla8 !

@Paige84 totally normal unfortunately, cluster feeding + evening fussiness. It does pass thankfully.

Paige84 · 30/05/2017 02:23

Congratulations to the latest arrivals!

Thanks folks, good to know it's normal. After posting on here, the wee man promptly fell asleep for 2 hours - in his moses basket too. An unheard of treat! Even if we're now up for the rest of the night, I'll feel better for having had a little solid block of sleep Grin

newbieho · 30/05/2017 06:00

Congratulations @MissMooMoo and @vanilla8 x

@mightymouse76 @EsmesBees I am watching the discussion on mixed feeding with interest. DH and I sometimes use bottle at night or when the baby newbie has got growth spurt/ demands more milk. Baby is food-greedy and wants to drink more and more. The refusal ends up with tears and massive tantrum. As a result he suffers from overfeeding (vomiting, poonami).

@Paige84 @Barnes79 @crazyzooo baby newbie joins evening rage club. Ge cluster feeds for entire morning, sleeps a little on the afternoon and throws a fit on the evening.

newbieho · 30/05/2017 06:09

DH comes back to work today and I am scared. Baby and I need to leave the house to get to BF group for (hopefully) tongue tie referral. I am terrified Confused

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 30/05/2017 06:54

Congratulations missmoo and vanilla, your baby looks very content Smile

Newbie big hug. DP has today off and then back to work wed. Also apprehensive as no idea how I'll manage everything we've so far done between us. Just do what you can and a few tears won't matter. Sounds like you need to prioritise getting to the feeding group, I guess we'll learn a lot about managing outings as we go along. Hugs and let us know how it goes.

Flowers for you esmes, tough day yesterday. Also for you tea, you've been extremely generous with your advice and I bet you've kept a fair few folks going on here, as well as looking after all your little ones Flowers

teainbed · 30/05/2017 06:56

Found this elsewhere on MN.

Well 2.5 hours after my "been in long walk, bouncing on ball, eyeing up clary sage" post I started having contractions.... thought it was wind then 12 hours later Baby Badger was with us Grin

Had everything set up at home but had to have her on labour ward due to meconium in waters. Gas and air, lots of growling, threat of c section and a quick ventouse suction before skin to skin and breast feeding. She's absolutely amazing and we're besotted Smile

I haven't caught up with everyone yet but hoping there are more babies and less members of FUC FlowersBear

Badgerbird · 30/05/2017 07:23

mightymouse76 · 30/05/2017 07:31

@Badgerbird congrats!! Hope you settle well.
@dreamofhungarianlanterns I second the praise of @teainbed ... you've been a calm rock to many of us! That chart proves it Wink

@newbieho good luck today, and also on the TT referral. If you don't get the second opinion, you can go straight to a private lactation consultant who can do it for you. Many have sliding scales of fees ranging from voluntary to full to suit all budgets.

We've got our TT Follow up appointment today so looking forward to that.

Long broken night here- mini mighty has fed every hour or so and creaked and whimpered in between so not sure how much sleep I managed, but I'm keeping tea's article in mind, that you get more than you think in those moments of closed eyes!

We only had one episode of inconsolable crying meltdown at 5, so not bad going at all by his standards....

newbieho · 30/05/2017 07:35

Nice toenail polish @Badgerbird

Congratulations and hello @Badgerbird girl 😍

Thank you @dreamofhungarianlanterns , tantrum no.1 is on its way as I dare to take the boob out from the sleepy baby and take a shower. Earning the title of the meanest mum in the world!

mightymouse76 · 30/05/2017 07:41

Anyone else's mini do the 'clamp down hard whilst pulling away' move? My poor nipples!!

beanturnipandspud · 30/05/2017 07:55

Congratulations @Badgerbird she is beautiful.

I am still firmly planted in the FUC! We had contractions yesterday that were painful, took some paracetamol and went to bed ... woke at 1.30am with more plug loss, had some cereal as I was starving and went back to bed. Woke at 5am to nothing ... although still have the dull ache in my back.
DH should be at work today, but he doesn't want to leave me. I feel so in limbo.
Sending bean to school holiday club today, so only have Turnip to occupy. Hoping my labour starts properly soon.
I can't be 3-4cm with bulging waters forever can I?

@mightymouse76 yes, with the added head shaking 😳😱 yowch, but then she smiles at me so I forgive her 💞

@beanturnipandspud has to happen soon, we're all rooting for you!

Congratulations @Badgerbird she's gorgeous!!

KLane · 30/05/2017 08:23

One week in and I've got mastitis already Hmm Not sure how as it's definitely not from lack of regular feeding! It's not clearing up on its own (plus a fever all weekend) so I've managed a GP appt this morning to get some antibiotics. Anyone had this in the past and remember how long it took for the antibiotics to start to clear it? It's so excruciating to feed through that I'm not sure how much more I can handle. Trying to use the pump a bit but it's not as effective.
