Mighty. Mine does the clamp down. Have you tried putting forcing your little finger in the corner of baby mightys mouth to break the suction seal?

teainbed · 30/05/2017 08:45

Aww thank you @dreamofhungarianlanterns and @mightymouse76 !

Congratulations @Badgerbird !

Also have a clamper here.

@KLane I think it was pretty quick, within 24 hours. Are you able to take paracetamol? kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/mastitis/

newbieho · 30/05/2017 08:59

@KLane antibiotics helped me after two days as well as manual pump. I've topped it up with paracetamol and ibuprofen.

@mightymouse76 @1004Rise Yes to nipple pulling and head shaking 😭 he does it unexpectedly so it's difficult to predict when to break the suction in.

PeachIcedT · 30/05/2017 09:05

Congratulations @Badgerbird she is gorgeous!

Hoping the FUC is holding up ok, I know it's difficult with every twinge but it has to happen before too much longer now.

@mightymouse76 the clamp down can happen to me too, and the problem is it happens so suddenly, leaving me with a very elongated nipple.

The whole breastfeeding thing is tough. I keep getting visions of switching to formula as baby seems so stressed out when unable to feed or latch quickly. It doesn't help having all the equipment and tonnes of formula given to me as it would be very easy to switch.

The graph is interesting @teainbed, to ask a dumb question, what is it that makes breastfeeding easier at 5/6 weeks and beyond?

In the back of my mind I can't help but think baby would be more satiated on formula but I'm keeping going for the time being.

savagehk · 30/05/2017 09:21

Peach they start going longer between feeds, feeds become quicker, any latch issues etc are normally sorted out...

For nipple clampers, push them into the boob so they can't breathe then they let go.

EsmesBees · 30/05/2017 09:40

peach I found it easier after 6/7 weeks when the cluster feeding stopped, she started to have more predictable patterns, and you start to be able to go out more and appreciate the convenience. This bit is intense, but it honestly does get better very quickly.

You can do it newbie. Remember you've just created a whole new human, so you can definitely make it to a feeding clinic Wink

Congratulations vanilla and badger. Can't be long now bean. Hopefully he will come quickly after keeping you waiting this long.

EsmesBees · 30/05/2017 09:41

Oh and on the mixed feeding thing, I got advice from a bfeeding clinic before introducing a bottle with dd1. They were the ones who recommended starting with 30ml.

teainbed · 30/05/2017 09:45

Also @PeachIcedT the extra time needed in bottle feeding to wash, sterilise, make up the formula, warm the bottles as well as the time needed to feed the baby is consistent no matter the age. If breastfeeding is going well it does eventually get to the 'just whip your top up' stage whereas currently it's long feeds, getting the latch right, burping, possetting! None of that in a few more weeks hopefully.

FoxMulder · 30/05/2017 10:09

Congratulations badger!!

I'm loving having a newborn again! She's SO cuddly, I can't get enough! I love watching their instincts in action and listening to those cute little noises.

WishIWasSleeping · 30/05/2017 10:30

Savage.. Ha ha ha!!
So I brought a couple of extra hooded towels from Aldi...
jeez with the tags!! I think I dropped a couple of bits on the floor too!!

I would like to express so that my husband can give a bottle at night but my midwife said not to do that before six weeks so he doesn't get confused and potentially refuse breast feeding but would there be a benefit to me expressing and freezing milk now so I have a stock? I don't want to run out while I'm exclusively breastfeeding, if that's even possible? Oh so many questions!

beachsands · 30/05/2017 10:36

Congrats on the new arrivals Flowers bean at my 40wk appointment I was 3-4cm and had bulging waters for a week by then. Baby was born later that night - though I stay pretty active that day. You'll have baba soon.

Sipperskipper · 30/05/2017 10:48

Great advice on the breastfeeding, it is reassuring to know it gets a bit easier. Baby sipper latches & feeds well but each feed is about an hour! (She has both breasts each feed). Also, I have to really get myself in a good position- multiple pillows to prop me up, nursing pillow.....keep thinking how the hell will I manage this anywhere but on a sofa or bed!

Also, she is awake in the day A LOT- not crying or anything, just looking around, and I keep panicking she isn't getting enough daytime sleep! She does sometimes go off if cuddled to sleep, but usually wakes up as soon as put down.

Its really good to know all this is normal and we're not alone!

MissMooMoo · 30/05/2017 10:57

Here is my lovely boy.
We have called him Felix

MrsJW15 · 30/05/2017 11:00

Baby W is currently eating endlessly in the day although so far sleeping ok at night. She's only on day 5! Not sure if we should feed every time she fusses or if she's just looking for comfort. Really I think she could do with having another poo. We've had lots of posset this morning.

MissMooMoo · 30/05/2017 11:05

@MrsJW15 I have been letting baby Moo eat whenever he wants, sometimes its a proper big feed and sometimes he latches on for a few minutes, sucks and falls asleep.

MrsJW15 · 30/05/2017 11:10

Gorgeous @MissMooMoo!

@Sipperskipper you are right - great to be doing this together!

@mightymouse76 we get some clamping here too. Particularly as she tends to fall asleep while eating!

Good luck @beanturnipandspud! And congratulations @Badgerbird!

MrsJW15 · 30/05/2017 11:11

Ha @MissMooMoo baby W is currently asleep on me after: feeding for about 7 minutes, falling asleep on my chest, cuddling, going into crib, grumbling trying to eat daddy and then eating again for 3 minutes!

notasillysausage · 30/05/2017 11:29

Hi, I'm a bit of a lurker on this thread. I posted a little on older threads but have been quiet for a while.

Congratulations to all those with beautiful new babies Flowers I'm 40+5 now and climbing the walls. Is anyone else still hanging in there too?

KLane · 30/05/2017 11:29

Thanks @newbieho @teainbed I've been on a routine of paracetamol and ibuprofen all weekend, which has helped with the fever at least. I can't believe how quickly it escalated! I've never hoped for any antibiotics to take effect so quickly.

Badgerbird · 30/05/2017 11:36

Congrats missmoo and vanilla!! Sounds like you both had similar experiences and I really hope the antibiotics are doing their job Smile

clsire great that baby is healthy weight and pleased you can get some help.

Good luck bean!!! I'd have thought when you're that far down the line it can't be much longer....

esme Flowers for yesterday.

How's it going so far today newbie?

Badgerbird · 30/05/2017 11:36

And Thankyou for all the congrats Smile

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 30/05/2017 12:14

Wow badger particularly for a first timer sounds like you wasted very little time giving birth and from the photo I see you were doubly efficient and produced a clean and fully clothed baby. I look forward to reading your bestselling book Grin gorgeous congratulations.

Lovely missmoo yours looks like a happy little bean.

Just been signed off by midwives, Harrison 2 weeks old today! His jaundice has gone from 200 to 22, she tested herself and they matched Smile she's happy with everything except his little man boobs but said just go to GP if they get any redder fron the swelling. He is also having tiny leaks from them, she said unusual but fine it's just my hormones Shock.

mightymouse76 · 30/05/2017 12:31

@dreamofhungarianlanterns @Badgerbird 😂 I'm buying that book!

CoxsOrangePippin · 30/05/2017 12:35

Day 10 here and just finished the antibiotics for an as-bad-as-labour painful infection. Hoping that being off them will help my mood stabilise a bit and I'll have fewer fits of crying.

Anyone out there who knows how long before you can sit down after an episiotomy coming unstitched? Confused

Sorry to be a miseryguts over here. I know it will all be better soon...

The nice thing is my parents are visiting tomorrow and bringing us food for the freezer Smile
