Fingers crossed this works, no idea how to make a thread but giving it my best shot. Let the May babies continue!

Also for those who were struggling with wind, try laying them on their left hand side for a little while, knees up to belly. Helps with wind at the bottom end... or maybe you don't have farty pants babies like me Hmm

Badgerbird · 08/06/2017 23:00

I think a muslin would be breathable too but wouldn't put anything thicker or waterproof or loose in the sleepyhead with regards to sids tea but am open to thoughts/ideas....

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 09/06/2017 02:13

Not caught up today but frankly Harrison can feed as much as he wants tonight, DP thinks he has a cold so has decamped to spare room and baby and I are watching election coverage. Fascinating.

mightymouse76 · 09/06/2017 04:42

Thanks for the tips on the sleepyhead- i was also under the impression you had to be careful about layering on as currently everything has been breathability tested (why it probably doesn't have a waterproof layer).
I have started to place a folded muslin by his
Head when I'm there to watch/remove once he's settled, but that won't solve his pee-fests
The spin cycle is a great idea though @Rabbitykins55

Mini mighty just went from 9.30 to 4am without a feed, and dad did the 9.30 as a botttle so my boobs were like leaking taps!! Thankfully being drained now. But have had 2.5 hours sleep before the midnight shift takeover, and about 2-3 since!! Feel semi human!! Tuning in to the news now @dreamofhungarianlanterns

EsmesBees · 09/06/2017 06:34

Good luck today MrsPage!

This is the second time we've used the sleepyhead and I've never used anything on it apart from a grobag. But then I have been lucky to have two non sicky babies.

Baby bees up every two hours last night, but good excuse to watch the election coverage. I am finding the sleep deprivation is starting to kick in now. On days when dd1 is in nursery I find it ok as I can have a nap, but when she's at home I get very tired.

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 09/06/2017 07:56

Good luck Mrs Paige and high five on the sleep mighty! Jenny your DP doesn't need to go to flicks to see wonder woman, he can just sit at home and admire you Wink

I took my stockings off on day 3 after shower and never put them back on. Was still in hospital and expected to get told off but the midwife that noticed said I seemed quite mobile so it was fine. Wine to those still wearing them

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 09/06/2017 08:25

Boob pillow! He is a master of unlatching, twisting his head and then landing slap bang on top of his favourite toy Grin

teainbed · 09/06/2017 11:26

Hope everyone recovering from election night. Love the boob pillow!

I'm also very tired! Too tired to eat which is unusual. I feel we make some progress with nights and I start to feel more energised and then regress and that feels very hard. Breastfeeding is 'working' in the sense that BabyTea is feeding and gaining weight but I feel like the life is being drained from me. Hopefully I can catch up this weekend on some rest.

jennymac31 · 09/06/2017 11:37

Morning ladies

Were any of you given iron tablets to take after having your baby? If so did you finish the course of tablets prescribed? I had misplaced my tablets for a few days and started taking them again but now have really bad stomach cramps and nausea, which are known side effects. Am gonna stop taking them completely, as don't think I need them bur just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced such side effects.

Northernexile · 09/06/2017 11:46

Morning all, congrats bean and good luck today mrspage! Looks like another thread is nearly full up too! Babynorthern is 7w today, and I'm also a bit tired from too much election watching during the night feeds.
Re the socks, I was told I could stop wearing them once I'd finished my Clexane Injections, so 10 days. That was quite long enough- I would never have stuck 40! I wasn't told to take iron jenny. Why were you given it- are you anaemic?

jennymac31 · 09/06/2017 12:06

Northernexile - no I'm not anaemic but was given them along with my painkillers and injections when I left the hospital. Tbh I never questioned it, as assumed hospital must have had a reason for me to take them.

CoxsOrangePippin · 09/06/2017 12:34

@jennymac31 I was given some but told I could take them or not as my hb was just over 100. So I didn't, because I was more concerned about the cramps/constipation. Just eating lots of steak instead!

1004Rise · 09/06/2017 12:48

@mrspage1985 good luck today, hope we see baby page on this thread!!

It's a sorry state of affairs at 4 am when your newborn is asleep and you're staying up watching tv - who me never!! 🤔 The world has gone mad, I'm retreating back into newborn cuddles much better use of my time!!

@jennymac31 I stopped taking my iron tablets when I went into hospital and no one mentioned it again 😯

@teainbed sounds like you're having a hard time, you're doing an awesome job, if you can get some elongated sleep over the weekend you will probably feel so much better... remember your own mantra everyone fed includes you! Try and eat something that is tasty but easy, looking after yourself is just as important. 💐🍰 and hugs!

jennymac31 · 09/06/2017 13:00

Thanks for the comments ladies.

Don't want to speak to soon but feel like the cramps have subsided, which is good. Definitely won't be taking any more of those iron tablets.

savagehk · 09/06/2017 13:20

jenny I've not got side effects from mine, and apparently you can ask for a different formulation. Or spatone / floridax much easier on the stomach.

RasperryInAMelon · 09/06/2017 13:22

Wow... so three days in to being a mummy and I hadn't realised how little time I'd have to just sit and do nothing I guess...

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. Molly is really settling in well and is such a content little girl and DH and I are smitten.

BF seems to be going well although it takes a little while to get a good latch on occasion. We're currently getting 3 hourly feeds at which point we all get some welcomed sleep!

We had a bit of a scare our first night at home when she brought up all of the mucus she hadn't expelled during a vaginal birth during the night and started choking, I couldn't move quick enough but thankfully DH got to her and flipped her onto her front. She's been totally fine since and as adorable as it was, her little piggy grunt has gone now.

MW came for home visit yesterday and all was well, just need to have my section scar redressed on Sunday.

Lots of visitors at the moment which is lovely but still very surreal!

vanilla8 · 09/06/2017 15:06

@jennymac31 I stopped taking mine as they gave me the same symptoms.
I was told to take them after two blood transfusions and discharged with level of 73. However I've switched to spatone and getting iron from food instead.

Day 13 post section and still quite tired so think my iron levels are still low but think it's something that takes a while to build levels up.

Spending the day in bed today with lots of cuddles

1004Rise · 09/06/2017 18:31

@vanilla8 you're allowed to be tired, like the midwife said to me if you had bowel surgery they'd be pleased that you got out of bed by the end of the week, if you're like me you'll have been up and down changing baby vanilla and still trying to do 101 other things... 4 weeks on I still forget what I can't do (although 30 minutes in a car serves as a quick reminder 😬) Good plan having a day in bed! 😉

teainbed · 09/06/2017 19:22

That sounds scary @RasperryInAMelon glad all was well in the end.

Lovely picture @vanilla8 hope you enjoyed your day in bed.

I'm already thinking about going to bed! Rather grim 24 hours with BabyTea. I was reading that growth spurts are thought not to exist anymore and it's now 'wonder weeks' Confused I'll keep reading and report back!

@jennymac31 don't answer if too intrusive but did you and DH come to an understanding about things at home?

EsmesBees · 09/06/2017 20:02

A day in bed is a fine thing vanilla. I should have done it more the first time round.

Tea sounds like you are doing wonderfully with three other kids to look after. It's so tiring this bit.

For the first time in the two weeks since baby Bees arrived both girls are asleep in the evening at the same time! Sitting down with wine and a curry. It's amazing!

crazyzooo · 09/06/2017 20:36

@tea I actually bought the "wonder weeks" app... I decided it was worth it for a couple of pounds.. We are about 9 days away from our first one, so I shall report back if the app is any good (or particularly useless) Smile

MrsJW15 · 09/06/2017 22:31

Crazy I bought it too. I think our leap is due around the same time. Everyone tells me it's great, so we'll see.

Baby W is cranky again tonight and a bit sicky - although managing to eat plenty as well. DH seems to have calmed her with a finger in her mouth, at least temporarily. I think her tummy is just uncomfortable and she tries to eat through it which then makes her throw up the milk again!

jennymac31 · 09/06/2017 23:00

@teainbed - I would say that we kinda have a consensus in regards to how we do night feeds/night duties but am going to see what happens once dh returns to work.

crazyzooo · 09/06/2017 23:13

@mrsjw15 and others who babies are sicky... How much do they bring up?

Baby Crazy is quite windy for an EBF and he normally brings a bit up after being burped. Today is a different ball game!!Confused I have been covered in baby regurgitation and had to change my clothes twice... He is otherwise as normal/eating fine and output/nappies as expected.

I am not sure whether to worry or not... Babies are confusing beings!

1004Rise · 09/06/2017 23:22

@crazyzooo Baby Rise is windy too and will bring up a little bit most of the time. Then occasionally (like now, just as I was drifting off to sleep 😳) she has Mt Vesuvius style eruptions, usually after she's eaten too much. I asked the HV about it but she said it's just because she doesn't know what full feels like. It's one of the reasons I've just bought dummies to try and stop the over eating when she just wants comfort 🤔
