Congrats dream, hope your recovery goes well. Congrats too mcbaby, glad you got to use the pool!
Thanks for the new thread vicki, and good luck bright- babybright will be here before you know it now!
Hope babytea conks out soon tea. babynorthern has had a bath and it seems to have knocked him out. Have the tongue-tie appointment this afternoon, so hopefully it will go ok.
Rise re bf I go with the 'pull loose top up, pull stretchy top underneath down' method of feeding and I find nobody bats an eyelid. It's easier once they latch straight on rather than flailing about at the nipple like they do in the first week or two. I've fed babynorthern out and about a few times now and am feeling quite confident already, much more so than I was with DD2. I don't bother with scarves or bf covers or anything, they would probably attract more attention and get me all flustered!

Northernexile · 17/05/2017 11:29

Hi leeds! Hope baby makes an appearance soon for you. Is it your first?
Hope tomorrow's sweep gets things moving MrsJW!

stationaryace · 17/05/2017 11:37

@1004Rise find somewhere you're going to be comfy/decent back support. I'd suggest prepping a muslin in advance to mop any leaks and for winding baby, then just get the boob out Smile I found cardigans good for not exposing my back as the breeze annoyed me but it depends what you're wearing really. You will feel like all eyes are on you, but really no one is looking. Unless you squirt them in the eye, then they're going to notice Wink

Hi lucky, hope this means you get to meet your baby soon.

I'm back in my underbump maternity jeans! Take that black leggings!!!!

newbieho · 17/05/2017 11:44

Good luck to all of you having sweeps and induction!

@MrsJW15 Hope DH gets better soon x

@Sipperskipper Cute baby 😍

@dreamofhungarianlanterns Gosh that sounds scary but glad to hear your wee boy is now with you. Lots of (gentle) hugs

@McBaby Congratulations! The girl power 💪

Hope all goes well @Rustler74

Come on baby @Brightsmoke !

Hello @luckyleeds 👋

First night at home and all three of us are learning. Newbie baby hates being on his own so an extra pair of hands/ boobs would be useful. Fourth semester in full swing. I have never thought that having a shower or brushing teeth could be my guilty pleasure. We are waiting for the first home visit of the midwife.

Those of you who have pets - how they reacted on the little ones? My cats are definitely in shock. Pet remedy plug is turned on to make the fur babies feel more comfortable.

newbieho · 17/05/2017 11:46

Thanks @Tickyboovicki for a new thread Smile

savagehk · 17/05/2017 11:57

1004 we've just had the same chat on the fb group :)

My comment there:
It gets a lot easier pretty quickly. At first you are so fussed by checking baby is latched right etc that there's a lot of boob out and a lot of attention needed. Once you and baby are used to it, you can get by with exposing very very little.

In my case, breastfeeding specific clothing really helped at first (where you can get a nipple out without exposing a tummy or taking clothes off your shoulder, etc) - means to the casual observer they can't actually tell if you're feeding or just cuddling.

If you need extra cover, a muslin (or a specific feeding cover) will help out but some babies will object and some of the specific feeding covers make it so obvious what you are doing I think they draw attention much more than discreet feeding does.

luckyleeds · 17/05/2017 12:01

Yes my first. We don't know what we're having so lots of white and grey vests! Considering a long walk around the supermarket as it's raining. Although would have to avoid the sweets aisle - sweet tooth cravings still hanging around, which lots of people have told me points to a little girl.

WishIWasSleeping · 17/05/2017 12:20

Thanks for the new thread!
Congrats on all the wonderful new arrivals.
Good Luck to those with planned births coming up.
Fingers crossed for all those left for a spontaneous birth!

Well done on getting back into your under-bumps Stationary! I'm back in my pre-pregnancy jeans, with one of DD's bobbles as a button extender! But I still find the pregnancy trousers more comfy! Grin

I'm not liking 'tucking in' my remaining bump though. My muscle tone looks shot! Def going to have to try and work hard to tone up once I can get DS into a routine that works with DD's nursery times. One of my best friends is about to be proposed to in two weeks and I need to feel more confident for the inevitable wedding and pictures! And I need to not moan in real life about being unfit because I'm not supposed to know. But the ring is so beautiful! Grin so excited!

Also found this pic - something for everyone to keep in mind when you're feeling rubbish or your day isn't going to plan. xxx

Morning ladies

Thanks for setting up the new thread.

Are any of you new mummies suffering from swollen feet, ankles & legs? Been wearing compression socks for almost a week but midwife said it might take another week for the swelling to go down. Really starting to get on my nerves.

BouncingBlueberry · 17/05/2017 12:30

@WishIWasSleeping thanks for the picture. Made me smile which is just what I need today after hardly any sleep.

Badgerbird · 17/05/2017 12:41

dream big congratulations on the birth of Harrison! Here's hoping you heal swiftly :)

Congratulations mcbaby! Glad you are both doing well and you got a pool birth :)

38+5 today and don't think she's gonna be here anytime just yet... famous last words?!

stationary I love the name Girl Grin

Yeah come on baby bright! You can do it! :)

ticky please try and be gentle on yourself, it's first day, babies are very unpredictable and don't care about showers and packing Wink Please remind me of this!!

Welcome lucky!! Sounds exciting, keep us posted.

northern hope tongue tie appointment goes well, it really helped my friends little one.

newbie glad you're home :) have you thought about trying a sling? It's all gonna be new to us too Confused

Hope you can get a nap in blueberry

Tickyboovicki · 17/05/2017 12:57

@jennymac31 no swelling here but always very warm and struggling with insane nightsweats! As if being a new mum wasn't glamorous enough 🙄

I have showered! And in great success mode my mini man then slept for just over an hour and a half so I had time to pack up his room! Also back in my jeans so finally have some options as to what I can wear! (I have so many jeans, seems to be all I wore before I got pregnant! )

Welcome @luckyleeds always exciting to have someone else join us 😊
Hope all those still pregnant are feeling ok. We're just waiting for the rain to stop so we can get some fresh air!

CoxsOrangePippin · 17/05/2017 13:21

wish that's lovely, were you consulted on the plan/ring by her DP? I have two weddings in August so reckon I should concentrate on finding a tummy-friendly dress I can nurse in rather than aiming to be back in shape so soon.

1004Rise · 17/05/2017 13:30

@newbieho it gets easier! (Can't believe I'm saying that) Baby rise has been sleeping in her next to me without any problem for the past 2 hours..... this is the same cot she wouldn't sleep in on the first night 😁

@stationaryace laughing at unless you squirt them in the eye!

@WishIWasSleeping love that quote!

Welcome @luckyleeds

Has anyone done a comparison of boys vs girls so far.... I've completely lost track!!

MrsJW15 · 17/05/2017 13:33

Love that @WishIWasSleeping!

Enjoying hearing all your stories of life with new babies to help prepare. A little bit jealous of you all though!!

teainbed · 17/05/2017 14:00

I ordered loads of clothes yesterday! Very exciting to be thinking about dumping the maternity stuff.

@jennymac31 mine took ages to come down, no idea why.

BabyTea managed a nap eventually. No idea what all the fuss was about. Hmm

teainbed · 17/05/2017 14:01

Welcome @luckyleeds !

FoxMulder · 17/05/2017 15:02

No sweep offered at 40 week appointment after all. Huh.

FoxMulder · 17/05/2017 15:03

Oh and thanks rise for the happy due date Grin. I feel like it's my birthday or something.

newbieho · 17/05/2017 15:16

Thanks @1004Rise and @Badgerbird I am sure it will get easier, it just seems hard at the beginning. Being hormonal does not help 😉 The midwife came over for the first visit and she seemed to be nice and happy with the little one. Birth registration appointment booked for tomorrow.

Tip for those with houses/ flats with few levels/ floors: have a box of nappies/ cotton buds or pads/ spare clothes/ changing mats on each level and it will save you unnecessary walks up and down the stars. Our little one decided to wee and poo himself during the MW visit and thanks to the box and changing mat downstairs we could sort him out quickly.

newbieho · 17/05/2017 15:17

@jennymac31 my feet are still swollen and MW said it is normal.

WishIWasSleeping · 17/05/2017 15:41

Thanks guys.
I was a bit harder on myself than I should have been with DD, and didn't appreciate I needed to rest too. I tried to do it all. It's just not worth it. You'll feel emotionally better to schedule nothing for some days. (Except your pelvic floor. Please don't forget those!)

@CoxsOrangePippin - A nice comfortable dress should really also be my goal, but I know they'll want a low key beach wedding and I kept telling myself I'd go back to the gym 'tomorrow' after DD, and then I was pregnant again. I lost a stone in the first 3 months of being pregnant with DD and I think that really helped me to have an easier pregnancy, as I really struggled with DS this time around. I wasn't happy with my wobbly bits before the children, so it's not really pregnancy related!
And I wasn't consulted on the ring, he did it all by himself. However the ring is the one I told my DH I originally wanted (and didn't get!) and I know she will absolutely love it.

Newbie's tip on lots of changing stations is a good one for the first couple of weeks whilst you have so much going on, or an additional child! (DH/P's don't count!) - after the new haze goes though and you get a routine I found it better to change in one place, and quite enjoyed the walk up and down the stairs as this was on some days the only exercise I got!! Grin

Tickyboovicki · 17/05/2017 15:41

@newbieho we've done the same with a changing box upstairs and down, best bit of advice I was given!

mrspage1985 · 17/05/2017 16:49

We considered having the stuff downstairs to do changes there aswell .... however we have 2 Labradors, one with a habit of eating poop Blush think she might think all her dreams had come true with baby poop being offered up in front of her!!!

PeachIcedT · 17/05/2017 17:18

Thanks for the new thread, there are already so many messages on it! I had a sweep today at midwife appointment- it was not the most pleasant of experiences, especially as I had to move to sit on clenched fists midway through, but she said she 'just' managed to get into my cervix. It left me feeling really tired and now I'm getting occasional period pain-like cramping. I didn't expect that one hour post sweep. Also been booked in for outpatient induction next Friday if baby does not appear on her own. All a bit real now.
