5th thread!

Going by the pace of ‘Thread #4’, this could the last one as we might all have our babies by the time it runs out. Unless we all give detailed commentary during labour Grin.

@bluebird1235 my OH has come to each mw appointment and has always been welcome so I'm sure yours will be too Smile

mcnics · 25/04/2017 20:17

@LuciBee231015 yes! I have numbness / tingling where just under where my bra sits across my ribs, it's so weird!

danigrace · 25/04/2017 21:01

Love a bit of lentil weaving Grin, DH isn't that way inclined but is 100% on board with the reusable nappy thing thankfully (he has sensitive skin so worries the baby might and thinks this is the way to go from a health and environment standpoint) which I'm pleased about as it's what I wanted too.

@Imaginarymenagerie oooh thank you very much!! Will have a look. And congrats on your win!! Star

@bluebird1235 we work together (our own small business) so DP has been to every one of my mw appointments and has always been made welcome.

Notyetthere · 25/04/2017 22:03

Blue of course you can take DH. I took DH to the 16 week appointment because we were going to the pub afterwardsGrin. He has not been back since but then there has been no pub visit afterwards. I might take him along on Friday to the 31 week appointment as he has a rare Friday off.

I repacked the baby's bag by putting the clothes in separate zip bags according to size. I'm sure even DH can find the right size now.

Baby's bag contents

2 vests - New born/up to 1 month
2 vests - 0-3months
2 long sleeved bodysuits - new born/up to 1 month
2 long sleeved bodysuits - 0-3months
2 sleepsuits - new born/up to 1 month
2 sleepsuits - 0-3months
2 muslin squares
1 large muslin/swaddle/blanket
10 size 1 nappies
10 size 2 nappies
2 pairs of socks
2 cotton hats
1 sweater
Water wipes
3 pairs of mittens ( we will probably lose these as only the sleepsuits have the built-in mittens but being July, if it's too hot then probably we shall dress baby in body suits and a light blanket while in hospital.
A cute rattle that came free with the M&Ps goodie bag at their baby event.

Writing it down makes it look like I have packed too much! Maybe it isBlush. Any advice on what I won't need and that I could take out?

OP posts:
glitterglitters · 26/04/2017 06:44

Don't worry @Notyetthere better to be prepared than not. I was in for less than 11 hours with number 1 and nothing got used. But if I'd been transferred or had needed to stay then I was prepared. We only live five minutes from both hospitals and dh will know what I need now so I'm packing quite light this time.

TinklingTheIvories · 26/04/2017 07:31

@Notyetthere that looks like an amazing list. Going to copy it if thats ok so I've got an idea of where to start with mine!!

Because we've recently moved, the hospital want to see me for another scan (yay!) and more bloods (boo!). I'm excited to see the bean again, as we assumed that the 20 week would be the last time until July!

Notyetthere · 26/04/2017 11:27

If the midwife measurements show that baby might be as big one, then I will probably take out the newborn/up to 1 month size clothes. Or I will just leave it all in the bag; apparently fundal height measurements are not accurate.

OP posts:
glitterglitters · 26/04/2017 12:24

Just grabbing a coffee in town after buying some odds and sods for my bag.

The pyjama section of primary was like a maternity ward. Everybody was pregnant trying to buy a cheap nightie 😂 it's the one thing I didn't actually pick up though as I felt a bit odd choosing a little mermaid set when I'm 31 and having a baby.

Had I not been pregnant? I'd have bought the correlating My Little Pony set too 😂👌🏼

glitterglitters · 26/04/2017 12:26

Also for those planning on breastfeeding, loads and loads of fab strap tops for £2 each. Good for layering and one up one down. Also lots of lightweight shirts with buttons.

After number 1 I was more horrified of tummy showing whilst bf in public than actually bf in public.

LuciBee231015 · 26/04/2017 14:44

I bought a selection of nursing tshirts today. Bought 5. Should be ok to get me started. That way no belly on show!

I need some cheap nighties for hospital too, will have a look in primark then!

Notyetthere · 26/04/2017 15:08

When I was in Primark last time I didn't get much inspiration with nighties but I don't think I fully understood exactly what I was looking for picked up a lightweight cotton dressing gown which I was very pleased with. I will check out the light weight shirts. I wear dresses mostly so I have gathered those that have strappy sleeves that I can drop on one side.

Glitter good point about tops that you can drop a sleeve rather than raise the bottom. I would also be horrified about belly exposing.

Luci where did you get your tshirts from? I need to get a few of them.

OP posts:
Spindelina · 26/04/2017 18:58

glitter has already mentioned it, but one up one down worked for me - strappy vest top that you can hoik a boob out of the top of, with another top over it that you lift up, which makes you feel less exposed. You end up with very little showing, most of which is covered by the baby's head.

Imaginarymenagerie · 26/04/2017 19:07

A friend told me that maternity bump bands are brilliant for tummy coverage while feeding. You can then lift you top and tummy remains covered.

LuciBee231015 · 26/04/2017 20:47

I got the nursing tshirts from Asos. They are layered with easy access and still look quite nice as well. Should be comfy even if it's warm.

I also got a nursing night dress and nursing shorts and tshirt pjs from asda online!

Twixes · 26/04/2017 21:25

That's a good tip Menagerie, I did the one-up-one-down trick the last time, ie maternity unclippable string top under loose top, found I was quite modest that way. Might have to consider the bump band for summer if it's warm, two layers might be way too hot!

Twixes · 26/04/2017 21:27

Notyet that looks like a great list...id probably put more of each in though! I'll be in for 5 nights so I'm thinking min 5/6 of each and I might even do some newborn some 1 month sizes...!

Lallypopstick · 26/04/2017 22:00

Anyone else finding pregnancy is making them way more emotional? I've been ridiculously tearful today, with a valid reason behind the upset, but I never would have reacted by crying before. I don't like it!

Notyetthere · 26/04/2017 22:47

Lally yes that. I have had a couple of cries at work but thankfully it has been away from everyone. I was one of those that frowned at people who cried at work; we have a lady that is always getting upset but now she sort of has my sympathy.

Twixes i thought about packing more but I thought if we need more then DH can nip off home and get the extras. We are 4-5 miles away from the hospital.

Today I felt very pregnant today. I think I waddled in the office and that 200m walk uphill to my car finished me after work. I was so out of breath but I had to hurry as a storm was brewing. It poured as I got to my car. Now collapsed on sofa almost unable to crawl upstairs to bed. Gah

OP posts:
Notyetthere · 26/04/2017 23:10

So many typos and grammar errors! I'd better go to bed.

OP posts:
Kitsandkids · 27/04/2017 01:41

Hello ladies. My husband put up the baby's wardrobe today so I washed some of the bits I have for the baby to get them hung up and put away, which was quite exciting!

I need to buy a bag I think to use as a hospital bag, and get some zip lock bags to put baby outfits in. I'm starting to get organised. I bought a nursing bra the other day but need to get a few tops I'll be able to nurse in as I'm a terrible prude and would hate to be exposed!

I've got a midwife appointment tomorrow so will hopefully hear heartbeat again. And another scan next week.

I know pregnancy can affect your joints but when I wake my right thumb is very 'clicky' which is just bizarre! Every day I have to bend it a few times and get it to click as soon as I get up!

bluebird1235 · 27/04/2017 06:12

@Lallypopstick all of my emotions have got much more extreme! I cry at something slightly sad on the TV or when DH says something which I perceive to be mean (though I've usually overreacted!) and I get quite angry when people do silly things - I was quite abrupt to a lady with a silly untrained dog that kept being annoying the other day. Felt quite bad about it afterwards!!

I haven't quite decided what to do about feeding whilst out and about. It's ok if I'm just feeding one but I can't help feeling like I'm going to be feeding one and the other is going to be screaming loudly wishing he was being fed too and I haven't come up with a way of getting both boobs out at once that doesn't make me feel like I'm just completely topless! (Also not really fond of getting any amount of boob out in public tbh!)

I had midwife appt yesterday (29 weeks) and asked her to measure me with the tape like I guess you guys all have every time. I'm now measuring 41 weeks!!! I feel like it vindicates my complete lack of fitness and the fact that I now get overtaken by old ladies with walking sticks if I walk anywhere!! I have a growth scan on Friday so hoping the babies are measuring nice and big to go along with my enormous belly!!

Need2morehands · 27/04/2017 07:13

Another here with unpredictable emotions I find myself laughing at how annoyed or upset I have gotten over absolutely nothing all rational thoughts have gone by lunch time and anything can set me off from not enjoying a cup of tea to the dog making a nest out of her bed (she is being extra spoilt with treats as I know how crazy she must think I am right now poor thing)
As for packing I am almost finished iv packed a suitcase half is babies half is mine so far in babies side I have
4 outfits including vests in ranging sizes all labelled on the zip lock bag
2 cardis
1 pink hat
1 blue hat (we don't know what we're having)
3 muslins
3 bibs
A cute toy giraffe from big brother
2 blankets
Water wipes
Cotton wool
Nappies
Pre made bottles (I am planning on breastfeeding though)

In my side
2 button pjs
1 button nighty
Socks
Disposable knickers
Big granny knickers
Pads
Nursing bra
Sleep bra
Toiletries
Dressing gown
Breast pads
Coming home clothes
Flip flops
Slippers
Towel
And t shirt for partner.
Think that's everything, il pack change snacks iPad and charger closer to b day. Also booked in a trip to the salon the week before due date for a pamper so hopefully baby won't be too early.

mynameisntLinda · 27/04/2017 10:13

notyetthere you joke about a comentary during labour but I was on Mumsnet whilst in labour.. just hadn't realised I was in labour yet. I think 5 of us all gave birth on the same date chatting on Mumsnet haha.

For anyone that already has a little one I would highly recommend the book "there's a House inside my mummy".
My 2 year old loves it, along with "Pirate Pete I'm a new big brother"
Someone recommended to me and they are great.

kitsandkids JoJoMaman Bebe do some lovely feeding clothes. Mainly last time though I ended up with Primark vests. pull one top up and one top down and for £2.30 a vest I really didn't mind all the baby sick and the fact they got a bit stretched out of shape lol.
I haven't bought nursing bras yet. I can probably use my normal bra for now but i'll defo get a couple of feeding ones ones my supply settles, god knows what size they'll end up this time haha
need2morehands the ziplock bag with sizes on is a fab idea! I haven't even thought about a bag.. im just blindly hoping I stay at home although I should really learn my lesson from last time lol

Spindelina · 27/04/2017 10:30

I would really like to have slept more last night. Boo to insomnia.
