Hello all. I've had a bit of an eventful week...
Weds - had midwife appt (29 weeks) and got her to measure me, just for fun, as I get all my growth stuff from scans. I'm already at 41 weeks by the tape measure!
Friday - had growth scan, all looking good. Both babies ~3lbs and looking healthy.
Then went sailing, overnight, just a short trip involving lunch and dinner in two very yummy pubs.
Sat - sailed home again in time for first day of antenatal class. Was really good and made me feel so much more relaxed about the whole thing.
Sun - second and final day of antenatal. Again, excellent, and copious yummy cakes etc.
Got home and hadn't been there for more than an hour, thought I'd go upstairs to check something but when I got there suddenly there was a massive gush and I just had time to run to the (tiled) bathroom before it soaked through my trousers and made a massive puddle on the floor. Called the midwife, went to hospital, confirmed that twin 1's water had broken, though there's still a little bit left. Had to get transferred to a different hospital as there are no neonatal beds available in the hospital near me.
I'm just getting monitored now. Both babies still inside and ok. Heart rates good. Had two massively painful steroid jabs (in my butt!) and now it's just a waiting game. Apparently 50% chance of going into proper labour within 72 hours and I've done 27 hours already. Had some weird pains this morning that might have been contractions but they seem to have gone away.
Been on a tour of the neonatal ward and had a chat with nurse and registrar about possibilities and feeling much more positive now.
No idea quite what will happen now but fingers crossed they stay in there a bit longer and get as big as possible before they come!
I'm so glad everyone else is doing well. I always looked on my growth scans as a nice way to get another look at them so hopefully those of you that are having extra scans get good news!
For whoever was talking about combination breast and bottle feeling, I had NUK teats recommended for this. Apparently they mimic how the baby feeds from the breast and you can get ones with different sized holes for different aged babies. Apparently otherwise they get so used to how easy a bottle is that they can't manage the breast anymore.
Sending positive vibes to all of you. And for those that haven't packed bags yet, I would definitely get on it!! I hadn't done mine and DH and I did it in five frantic minutes before leaving the house. I have some things which are useful, some completely useless and forgot some rather crucial things like a spare pair of trousers - managed to leak all over the ones I was wearing by the time we made it to the hospital so now I'm wearing scrubs!!
