The striding around without a care thing can be a pregnancy symptom too rather than part of the person's own normal character. I'm normally someone who is always spotting potential problems with any situation or plan and picking over ensuring every detail of something I'm doing is just so, then worrying in case a different way might have been better after all but as soon as I'm pregnant, I'm far too easygoing and struggle to care about anything going wrong, not just in relation to the pregnancy but life in general, sometimes to a worrying extent and not infrequently it causes problems. It's like having a personality transplant! I think it is hormonal to some extent but also very much linked to the pregnancy tiredness, which I seem to get quite badly. I just struggle to concentrate on anything long enough to build up any worries about it.

When I was pregnant with my son a couple of years ago I was halfway through a course of CBT for needle phobia as the severity of the phobia had caused quite significant problems for me during hospital treatment following the loss of a previous pregnancy and part of my treatment homework was to watch YouTube videos of ultrasound scans of injections, so I could see what was going on inside the body. I found that so hard to do every night and would cry, squeal and groan through them each night but a week or so after I found out I was pregnant, I was just sat watching them as calmly as a sheep!

It's odd how pregnancy affects people in such opposite ways. Hope things get better for you soon.

mrsbumblebees · 05/05/2017 13:17

It's amazing how much people's experiences vary isn't it?! Pregnancy certainly does strange things to the mind (and body)! Hearing everyone's different experiences is definitely comforting, and we are all doing a good job of getting through it, even if it isnt quite what we might have expected!

JanuaryJuniper · 05/05/2017 16:15

It's comforting to hear that others are going through similar feelings to myself iykwim?!

When I found out I was pregnant I had been on anti depressants for nearly two years and no way near planning on coming off them...once I found out I was pregnant I gave up wishing two days. Considering all that I'm actually not doing too bad but honestly there are days when I really struggle.
These last three weeks have been hard and I feel detached, which is so weird, it's like I don't have strong emotions either way about the pregnancy which then in turn makes me feel incredibly guilty (as although a surprise, it's a much longed for baby and will complete our family). I don't know what to think really, why am I feeling like this? Then I hear some of you say you are feeling detached and it's a great reassurance that I'm not some cold fish!! X

boxesoffrogs · 05/05/2017 19:14

Well done january, I was on anti-ds for a while a few years ago, and it's a struggle to come off them esp if you have to go cold turkey. You are not a cold fish, or if you are then I am a great big frozen haddock! I completely get what you mean with the detachment thing. I seem to go from one extreme (feeling/seeing bump develop although I still just look fat!) to wishing it wasn't happening when I think about how much is going to change. I feel too young for all this, which is ridiculous as I am 33 Blush

Have to go to visit dp's parents this week, will be first time we have seen them since telling them about that and the engagement. Involves a stupidly early flight and I am dreading it. We will be there for less than 24 hours, and I just want to stay at home and snuggle my dog, rather than having to go and be on my best behaviour. Don't know then that well, so it's all a bit strained... Sad wish I felt a bit more positive about everything.

ButterflyGem · 06/05/2017 09:43

Aww it's good to hear everyone's different experiences & I think it's all normal & good to talk about. I was really anxious before 12 week & it's strange I've kind of relaxed a lot now but can easily find things to worry about if I let myself. I'll be worrying until my next scan in 3 weeks. I also have kind of felt detached about it all though & not bought anything yet, like it's not real until I see the baby at the end & desperate for a bigger bump to appear. @boxesoffrogs I'm also 33 & am thinking I sometimes feel old compared to other pregnant people I know but also too young in my head to become responsible for a baby if you know what I mean 🙂

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 06/05/2017 19:19

What I'd give to be 33 again! I was 33 when expecting ds1 and he was born just after I turned 34, then had ds2 just before I turned 36, this one is due to arrive less than 2 weeks after I turn 41! I feel very old right now!

Am 16 weeks tomorrow and still no bump, I just look fat (still). Haven't told work, have been there 4 weeks and wondering how long before it becomes more obvious as I want to tell them before it gets to that stage. Just hoping they don't sack me. Have first consultant appointment next Tuesday and just hope that they find the heartbeat as I'm very paranoid right now that she will have died, I haven't had a scan for nearly 5 weeks, and until I get a bump I'm just fearing the worst. I'm trying to think about the positives that I'm constantly exhausted and falling asleep early to the tv and waking at night which are my usual pregnancy symptoms but I won't rest until I hear her heartbeat again. I wish I could feel more positive about things, it's daft in one respect as I've never had a later loss, but just worried now that I'm off the steroids and I come off progesterone tomorrow, it's the what ifs that are troubling me, what if the doctors are wrong and I still need to be on them, what if my killer cells still try to attack her....if someone could put me in a coma until October I would happily agree!

ButterflyGem · 06/05/2017 20:04

@Loopyaboutmytwoboys my mum had me & my twin brother at 43 & all was healthy etc lol. She drank lucosade all through her pregnancy too even though you're not meant to. I'm sure everything will be fine let's try & think positive. I've been reading a book called the secret by Rhonda Byrne & it really helps to change negative thinking into positive, it's hard not to worry though isn't it. I don't think I'll fully relax until the baby is here lol xx

mummabubs · 07/05/2017 07:04

@ButterflyGem Really? Where did you hear that about lucozade? (Only because my midwife has actively told me to drink it regularly as I have low blood pressure?!) Confused

Cineraria · 07/05/2017 08:09

I would imagine it comes under the general thing about caffeinated drinks mumma, like tea, coffee, cola etc. Ok in small amounts but not something to drink all day.

emmaluggs · 07/05/2017 10:00

How to be people not google things? I received a worrying letter yesterday, one of the growth hormones is measuring lower average, I have a low risk result for the 3 chromosome issues. This low hormone could mean just a smaller baby or placenta blood flow issues. I have a Doppler scan at 23 weeks for them to measure blood flow so it is being monitored. As I received the letter yesterday I've kind of been alone with the information therefore I have been googling, I've now convinced myself that I'm going to be induced at 28 weeks and have a terrible time. how do people stop googling???? The concrete information I have from private scans is that everything is on track yet I fixate on this one bit of potential concern, then I think well this is stress is no good and so goes the cycle. Sorry for the ramble, I just needed to get it out. My partner is so supportive, but I don't feel he can fully understand how my body has potentially failed my little one already

ButterflyGem · 07/05/2017 11:49

@mummabubs I've just presumed it would be classed as en energy drink & so high caffeine & people at work told me, but since your midwife has told you to drink it then it can't be too bad. My mum lived on it when she was pregnant & it didn't do any harm though. @emmaluggs I've been googling everything too it's hard not to but it's really bad just causes unnecessary worry. All will be fine I'm sure xx

mummabubs · 07/05/2017 16:09

Ahhh I do see logic there. Although lucozade contains less mg of caffeine than a standard cup of tea- glucose is the main energy booster in that drink! Maybe it is just due to my low blood pressure then that the midwife suggested it, and (not that my midwife knows this!) but I gave up caffeine completely as soon as I found out so with any luck a bit of lucozade won't be too bad at 18 weeks!

GimbleInTheWabe · 07/05/2017 19:40

Anyone else got way more clumsy since becoming pregnant? I cut my leg on a table and today I stubbed my toe so badly I think it's broken! I can't put any weight on it at all and it's so bruised and swollen Envy

On the plus side tomorrow I am 19 weeks!! And our bathroom is going to be finished so I will finally have easy access to a toilet- yaaayyy!!

mummabubs · 07/05/2017 20:29

Congrats Gimble- both on 19 weeks and the bathroom! 😁 I feel more clumsy, not sure if that's partly as my balance doesn't feel quite as fab as usual (I'm 18+1 but showing quite a bit already) :/ !

leannejade · 07/05/2017 21:12

I was at my God sons christening today and we had to stand tot maybe 25 minutes for the service, then afterwards when we were all outside, my skirt felt tight on my stomach where I started to feel sick, then got really light headed, needing to sit down and get water before I passed out/threw up.
I've had no sickness in this pregnancy and had eaten and drank just before leaving, but the health assistant noted my blood pressure was a little low when I signed up to a new doctors.
Is this a common thing? Anyone know how to prevent this? I've been light headed already this week but I put it down to stress at work.

Cineraria · 07/05/2017 21:31

Are you drinking plenty of water, leannejade? I find I need at least two litres a day or I get faint and have palpitations too.

mummabubs · 07/05/2017 21:33

Hi @leannejade! As I mentioned a few posts below my midwife said my blood pressure is low (it's always been on the lower side but was 90/50 at my 16 week check). She advised lucozade and orange juice and basically said drink as much of anything that I can stomach! Maybe mention it to your widwife? X

leannejade · 07/05/2017 22:08

Cineraria I could probably do with drinking more fluids, I just thought I couldn't hack standing up anymore lol

Mummabubs I've hot my 16 week appointment a week tomorrow so I'll mention it then. I was telling my fiancé about the lucozade post as I've been steering clear of it since getting pregnant! May have to try

TippetyTapWriter · 08/05/2017 11:33

I've been getting faintness and hot flushes the last week or so, especially in the morning and definitely worse if I have to stand still for a while. Think it probably is low blood pressure. Mine was also lowish - 90/60. Makes me feel really weak and sick! I definitely need to drink more. But nothing except tea appeals to me!

mrsbumblebees · 08/05/2017 12:44

I have been feeling light headed if I stand up to quickly recently, and last week I fainted on the train which was horrible - I am seeing the midwife tomorrow so will see what she advises, but I think I probably just need to drink more fluids, and avoid standing too long, especially on hot and overcrowded trains!

Corrinax · 08/05/2017 17:18

I wish id stop being so anxious its getting me down top im glad im not alone! Im 17+5 my belly is starting to get fatter n i heard the hb at midwife app last thursday but the next day im worrying again iv booked a private gender scan for 21st so daddy can come then!

Has anyone felt movement yet and where abouts? As when they listened to the hb last week the baby was still soooo low i was surprised how low he still is

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 08/05/2017 17:36

I've got my first appt with a consultant tomorrow, from what I've heard I will also see a midwife so they should definitely be trying to listen to the heartbeat, so am praying all is ok. Have been having some uncomfortable feelings, just hope that my scar tissue isn't stuck to bits of me that mean the baby can't push upwards, as it's really not pleasant this last week ish. Hopefully I'm worrying over nothing, can feel two solid lumps on my tummy now, which I presume are bits pf scar tissue that have moved, but it's not a line of them so just don't know what to think.

confusedat23 · 08/05/2017 20:11

Hey ladies... i've got my 16 week appt tomorrow and we'll be talking about my screening results.

Mine came back with very very low PAPP-A and i wondered if anyone else had similar? X

PingusMistress · 08/05/2017 20:28

Sounds a bit icky about your scar loopy, hope the consultant can check it out for you. I'm the same age as you so you're not the only oldie on the thread Wink

I've been feeling a bit of movement for the last few days corrinax. It feels more noticeable when I have close fitting stretchy clothes on like over bump maternity trousers, and it's between my belly button and bikini line. It's a very hard feeling to describe, a bit like your insides rearranging themselves, but not that dramatic! I'm 15+2 but it is second baby, I've read you can feel it earlier second time around.

Was very surprised today when I weighed myself and I'm still the same weight as pre-pregnancy. I don't quite understand that cos my belly and boobs are much bigger! Hopefully my bum has got smaller to compensate but that may just be wishful thinking!

mrsbumblebees · 08/05/2017 20:41

Sorry to hear you have been feeling anxious Corrinax, you're definitely not alone though! I'm 16+4 and haven't felt anything yet, plus I don't have a bump yet either! I know it is early days for these things, especially with a first pregnancy, but seeing other people's bumps and hearing about all the movement they have felt so early on does make me worry, I'm trying my best not to let it get to me though and to remember every pregnancy is different.

Good luck tomorrow loopy and confusedat23, I've got my 16 week appointment tomorrow too! Sorry I don't have any advice about the screening results confused, I couldn't have the combined screening as the baby was too low down to get the NT measurement, so I have to have the quad(?) blood test tomorrow instead. Does anyone have any experience of this, and know how quickly you get results?
