MrsJB, you're so lovely. I feel so gutted for DH, he was only tolerating work because he knew he was starting in the police force this summer. And this whole thing is ludicrous.

I don't know what to do. I feel sick, shaky etc.

Shudder to think what my bp is doing.

Juicylucytoo · 07/03/2007 16:33

SoH - What you should do is GO HOME!!!!

After the absolutely shitty day you've had, you should do your body and your head and your baby a favour and hit the couch... with at least 3 Gingerbread men and a cup of Earl Grey.

YOU DESERVE A REST!!!

I'm sure your DH will be able to appeal. No use worrying about it until he has spoken to the recruitment officer and got the lowdown on where to go from here. As you say, false positives are common and even top atheletes get to appeal and have 2nd tests. Hair samples indeed. Are you sure it was the Police Force he was appying for and not a job on a froensics TV series? God help us all if that's the state of their testing accuracy.

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 16:35

Yes, how exactly are we supposed to trust a bunch of people who accuse my husband (Mr Health 2007) of taking drugs because of his hair.

No blood test, no urine sample, just a hair test. It's actually quite ridiculous if you step back from the situation and stop crying for a moment...

Creena · 07/03/2007 16:40

Oh no, SOH - am so sorry to hear this.

Is there some way that your DH could appeal or contest the results? Especially as hair tests are recognised as flawed? Perhaps he could offer to undergo a more thorough and reliable form of testing to resolve the situation?

Don't give up - it's not the end. This can't be the first time they've had false positive test results, especially if they're using hair tests. I know it's hard on your DH but I think he should be persistent and keep on at them for at least an explanation and an opportunity to undergo another form of testing.

Will keep my fingers crossed for you both - I'm sure it will all work out.

Creena · 07/03/2007 16:46

Would just like to share a bit of news with you all; have just come back from my 4D scan and it was really good. Bobba was nice and active and we got to see everything. And I mean everything! Yep, we know which flavour we're getting and it's the blue one!! He kept flashing his bits at every available opportunity so there was no mistaking the gender at all. I just hope that his flashing antics don't turn out to be a permanent personality trait! Really looking forward to buying some little fella outfits now as I've seen loads of things in the shops but have never been able to buy them without knowing what flavour we were getting.

I've put one of the 4D pictures in my profile if anyone fancies a look.

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 16:56

Oh congrats, great pic and a little boy. That's wonderful.

Juicylucytoo · 07/03/2007 16:56

God my typing was crap. Have just re-read my post

Hope you have left SOH and are on your way home

Creena - wow your scan pic is amazing!

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 16:56

Tis cannabis by the way.

No chance.

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 16:57

Leaving work now...

Juicylucytoo · 07/03/2007 16:57

What do you mean by no chance? No chance of an appeal?

OP posts:
Mrsjaffabiffa · 07/03/2007 17:17

JL; I think SOH, means that there is no chance that dh has taken cannabis.

At least you have some answers SOH, hopefully it will improve from here, I know it delays things a bit for you, but try not to worry too much. Have a snuggly evening with dh, rest and think positive.

twelveyeargap · 07/03/2007 17:33

SOH, you poor, poor love. How awful for you both. Such a shock when you knew he couldn't possibly fail it. God love you both.

I just found this on the South Yorkshire police website. It shows that they (so presumably all other police forces) do a review of a "positive" hair test, so all is not lost. As he has a valid reason for a "false positive", ie the Ibuprofen, then I'm sure this will come out ok. I expect they'll review the level of toxin or some such thing and show that the levels can't possibly be related to actual cannibis.

Medical Review

A ?positive? laboratory result will be subject to medical review by an independent medical practitioner. The review process interprets the results in light of any factors that may provide a legitimate explanation for the presence of the drug(s) (eg. medications taken by the donor in the days before the test). If the presence of the drug(s) can be explained away legitimately, the force will be advised of a ?negative? outcome.

If the presence of the drug(s) cannot be accounted for in this way, the force will be advised of a ?positive? outcome. The positive outcome reported will include details of the drug(s) identified.

A ?positive? result after medical review indicates that there is evidence of illicit drug use that cannot be explained by any of the legitimate medications used by the donor.

It WILL be ok.

largeginandtonic · 07/03/2007 17:37

Oh SOH your poor Dh and poor you! WTF is going on? You have had awful day, hope you rest later and DH gets some news. Surely it cant just end here, this must have happened before to someone and they have had to deal with it?

Huge hugs to you xxxxx

Great news on the scan Creena! The baby looks gorgeous! So what will his name be then?

TYG 'oh no' on the buggy front!!! Is it in stock if you get it direct from the web site? Hope you manage to get it, it's sooo lovely.

Am making fish cakes for tea, such a palaver. They had better eat it all without so much as a whimper or a 'yuk' or i will go in to meltdown!

twelveyeargap · 07/03/2007 18:00

I love your pic Creena. We decided not to bother with the 3D thing and now I'm sorry. With all the expense we've had recently, it seemed like a cost too far. Boo. I'm thrilled you found out the flavour.

Ordered my buggy. Jeepers. The woman in the shop called the distributor who said she needed an order by tomorrow as she was going to have to take my buggy off a "stock" order from another shop - when it finally arrives in.

Nggghhh. Done now and am very pleased to report that I got the whole lot about £50 cheaper than I was quoted from the retail part of the main dealer. Plus she gave me £10 off the usual cost of the cabrio car seat. If baby arrives on time, I might be a couple of weeks without the carrycot but the buggy should be in in April.

Does anyone know what the hell iso-fix bases for car seats are all about? Can you put them in any car with a 3 point rear belt or do they have to be specially fitted? Just off now to post in "products" to try to find out.

ShowOfHands · 07/03/2007 18:22

I'm home now. Yes I meant no chance that he had smoked cannabis. He has phoned a barrister friend of ours who is checking out appeals and we're considering paying for a private repeat test as a back up. They are also retesting his B sample of hair, so it's a waiting game now.

SKYTVADDICT · 07/03/2007 18:32

Oh my god SOH, what a horrible day.

Don't know what to say really just wanted you to know I'm thinking about you and your DH.

largeginandtonic · 07/03/2007 19:18

I really really want a glass of wine.....is it too irresponsible to

a) send on of the newly bathed twins out in the dark to the local shop with a pleading note

or

b) go out myself and abandon all the children for 10 mins.....

I know, i know neither. Godnamit all where is DH in my hour of need.....(actually he is about half hour outside Plymouth on a very big ship) No sword in hand though

Oh i miss him [sob]

Just ignore me.

SOH a re test and a friendly barrister sound like a very good idea. Im sure it will be ok but it really is something you could do without isnt it. I cant believe it sometimes, just when you think life couldnt get any more complicated.

Im sure the baby is drawing pictures on my tummy from the inside. That was a movie i think?! A scary one at that.....It's probably writing "im never coming out after all the shouting that i can hear" or "keep it down"

They ate the fishcakes though Have managed to save some for myself too, double

Mrsjaffabiffa · 07/03/2007 20:04

lg&t, Go and get your blooomin large box from Grannie soon, she won't eat you,

twelveyeargap · 07/03/2007 20:14

LG&T - I would leave them for 10 mins. I'm not kidding. Particularly if they're in bed. Just tell one of them you're going out so you don't create pandemoneum.

Note won't work btw... Not if the shop wants to keep their licence.

aprilmeadow · 07/03/2007 20:19

Good evening

SOH - OMG poor you. I hope that you are having a 'take it easy' evening. Sorry to hear about dh, i hope that you are able to get a 2nd test done and prove his innocence. A friend of mine works on the trains and has to be so careful where he socialises as he could be tested at any given time and if he has been around people smoking wacky backy it can affect his test results.

LG&T - you dont need the vino! Eat one of your yummy creations

Creena - congratulations of your little man. Lovely scan picture

Cant wait til tomorrow, very excited about picking up my new car. It's like Xmas all over again

Also, have managed to find a 'supplier' of KK's. I work for a design agency and i am responsible for placing the print. One of my printers came in yesterday to pick up a job and somehow the subject of KK's came up. He happened to mention that the Tesco near where they office is stocks them!! I told him that he HAD to bring some in with him today with my proofs if he wanted me to give him anymore work.... I thought he would forget but bless him he came in today with a selection of 12!!!! I was in heaven - obviously i had to share, but managed to eat 2.5 without being caught Custard filled with choc on top, glazed choc ring and half of another. yum yum yum

twelveyeargap · 07/03/2007 20:24

I must be just a lush then!

Juicylucytoo · 07/03/2007 20:31

Well that makes 2 of us TYG

Pebblemum · 07/03/2007 20:47

Evening all

I wrote a long post earlier thought i had sent it, popped to neighbours for a few hours, came back just now and thought i would catch up on the goss only to find i hadnt sent it in. I ended up deleting it just so i could catch up. I would blame my pregnant brain but ive been playing Big Brain Academy on the DS against the nieghbours and beat them every time so my memory cant be that bad

SOH - what a day you have had Hope everything gets sorted for dh and quickly too. I think you should just give each other a cuddle, go to bed and hope for a better day tomorrow. PS hows your injuries, not causing too much pain, i hope

Creena - great pic of baby, so clear, makes me want to get one done but I get my 32wk scan in 2wks so i think i will make do with that. Congrats on having a blue one too (really want to know the flavour of mine now)

I went to see midwife today for next set of bloods. I made dh come in with me to hold my hand (severe needle phobia as well as invisible veins that never want to give up any blood)but to be honest he wasnt much help, he just kept cringing whenever he looked at my arm. They took the blood from my wrist as it was the best option but it bloody hurt, in fact my arms still throbbing a bit now. It wasnt my usual midwife i saw today but a nurse and another woman who im sure was pretending to be a midwife, she was useless. She took my blood presure twice within 5mins because she forgot she had already done it, then after writing all my details on the vials ready for the blood she went and used different ones by mistake so she then had to rewrite them and she was so slow and disorganised with everything. They found protein in my sample again and i said id had one sent off last time but she didnt even have my notes there to check the results.

They then decided to measure my bump and for all you ladies worried about measuring too big all I can say is....I'm not ha ha. Actually im coming up small, i should be 29 but im only measuring 27. Im not worried though, i was told the same thing with ds2 but a scan showed it was ok and as i have a scan booked for 2wks anyway im pretty sure that if there is anything to be worried about they will pick up on it then. I was also told today that bubs is head down with his/her back curved down my right side. It took ages and lots of really horrible heavy prodding for them to find that out, they were pressing down so hard i was having trouble breathing (poor dh was looking on in astonishment, think he was worried they would damage bubs)We then listened to the heartbeat which was very strong. Its the first time dh has heard it during this pregnancy. Anyway all is fine, ive got all my appointments booked for the next 6wks, now all i have to do is wait and hope the woman i saw today isnt the one meant to be delivering my baby

twelveyeargap · 07/03/2007 20:52

Ouch. Hate people prodding my belly.

DH was somewhat uncomfortable yesterday when I had my internal exam right in front of him. Said it was VERY odd looking at another man with his hand up my fanjo - regardless of the context!

He was otherwise great. You know the good thing about what happened yesterday is that it reassured me that DH will be ok when I go into labour for real. I kept worrying (without any real basis) that he'd fall apart.

Pebblemum · 07/03/2007 21:04

I remember thinking that about Dh with ds2 which is why i had my mum there as well I didnt think dh would faint or anything but i wasnt sure how sympathetic he would be to my pain IYKWIM and after ds1's dad falling asleep for most of my 21hr labour with him and then moaning at me because it was taking so long I decided to be safe than sorry. This time around, however, dh has said it would be nice if it was just the two of us as he found it hard to relax last time with my mum there (hes a big tough man and doesnt like showing his emotions ) Part of me still wants my mum there (shes been at both births so far and was a great help, she also feels a bit like a lucky charm as i had two very straightforward labours with her there) but at the same time i can see where dh is coming from. I think i wil probably go along with what dh wants this time
