No wonder you're not with your first husband/ partner any more. A'se.

My DH would have a breakdown if I wanted my mum there. Actually, she'd wind me up as well.

I can understand how you'd feel "safe" with her, but I know exactly where your DH is coming from. It's a very special time.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 07/03/2007 22:10

I had my mum and my sister and dh there at ds birth. My sister was there by a bit of an accident as she wasn't going to stay but at the time I didn't really know who was there and who wasn't so it was fine. She was fab, very helpful.

In France it is partners ONLY! so had no choice to have Mum there with dd. In fact it was lovely just dh and I, it felt more special and we had time after delivery to be just the 3 of us. I'm looking forward to that again.

Hope you car is good AM.

SOH, thinking of you and dh this evening.

Night, xxx

largeginandtonic · 07/03/2007 22:31

DH just phoned and said he wont be around this weekend, the ship is off to Guernsey! He was on his way when he phoned, some other poxy ship couldnt make it I was going to Plymouth to see him. I may still go, will be company for the weekend and the kids would live it.

So wish i had nipped out and got the wine

Pebble scary midwife, avoid in future at all costs!

AM, kk supplier???? Where, it may be closer to me than my 'local' Weybridge store

TYG had not though about that issue, internals in front of DH. He is sooooo not gonna like that, he was all weird the other day when i said the doc had examined my pubic bone (over pants)for the symphysis pubis Dysfunction! God knows what he would do if the doc did anything else

SOH i so hope you are resting and hugging DH, please stay calm.

Should go to bed, have new silly parenting mag to read. I have a stock pile if anyone would like me to send them over?

largeginandtonic · 07/03/2007 22:37

When i had the twins it was my mum and dad with me for the section (dad outside in the baby resus room) For dd it was my mum and exp, ds#3 it was my mum, sis and exp. Dad hovering right outside. DS#4 was my mum, exp, friend and Jonah (ds#3)

Not sure what to do this time, my mum is not actually much help but it is nice to know she is there. Would like my friend (diff from last time) as i was her birthing partner. Also would be nice to just have DH but he wont even watch me wee (leaves the room and wont do it in front of me either) so what the hell will he be like when im grunting like a walrus and pooing????

Thought for the night

charleymouse · 08/03/2007 04:58

Morning ladies
Thanks for all your support, tis much appreciated.

There is no interenet access at the hospital . But I have a 12 hour pass. Came out last night at 7.30pm and have to be back by 7.30 am. Am currently cursing having my tea so late last night that I have terrible indigestion/heartburn and am missing out on my own bed. Tossing and turning though since 2.45 and I thought it was not fair to keep DH up when he has to look after DD at the moment and I can sleep all day tomorrow. So I thought I would see how you were all getting on.

Babes being monitored 2x daily and seem fine, I have had another scan and the fuid has stayed the same so due another scan tomorrow oope make that today and if necessary I will have an amniotic fluid reduction. Basically I hintk they siphon some of if there is too much - not sure yet how risky this is will discuss with the consultant if he feels it is necessary.

Apparantly my iron levels are a bit low at 10.4 (doesn't sound to bad to me) so I have doubled up my spatone and am "declining my iron tablets" hospital food is already playing havoc with me so do not want to exacerbate things further SITMI.

Just a quicky LGT, I had a breast lump after DD was born and was examined and referred for tests within days, if they think it is potentially serious they really do react pronto so I think this is a good sign it is just a pregnancy thing. Everything came back clear just a side effect of pregnancy/breastfeeding. I know it's hard but try not to worry.

Can't believe I had to miss the Spa meetup GB, I cancelled my pregnancy massage as otherwise entertained IYSWIM. Ho hum, hopefully will get to the next one.

Preggers brain and time of morning leading to confusion so just replying ad hoc at the mo.

You can get Twinings Earl Grey decaff that way you don't have to reduce your intake. I can't believe I have taken my own tea/coffee into hospital they only have full caffeine stuff on the maternity ward .

Hopefully the drugs test will just be a glitch and will all get resolved when they get their act together.

Anyway feel indigestion is abating so will try to get an hours kip before getting up to go back to the hospital.

Take care and I will try to keep you posted.
Please excuse typing and spelling as I do not have my glasses on and am knackered.

largeginandtonic · 08/03/2007 08:10

Morning all, so lovely to hear from CM last night. Wish i lived closer and could visit her in hospital, it is sooooooo boring. I remember it well from having the twins, i was in and out before i had them foe a couple of weeks.

Im going for coffee with my new friend this morning, she is 15 wks preg with her 3rd baby and is currently convalesing (sp?) after being rushed to hospital a week ago last sunday with appendicitis. It came on in minutes, she was changing her youngest sons nappy (he is 18mths) and had this awful pain that did not go. She was rushed in to hosp and had a ruptured appendix Baby ok though, too small to be affected and they did key hole surgery to sort it out. How scary must that have been????

Anyway will think of you all as i have my costa coffee, mmmmmmm

See ya later

Oh and MersJB i had forgotten Granny had a wine box!!! Prg brain has really out done me this time, i mean me forget wine

twelveyeargap · 08/03/2007 09:10

Glad you had some time off Charley. Good luck. x

Kicked a very heavy laundry basket out of my way last night and felt something in my fanjo go "crrrracckkkk". Crack, fanjo, hahahha, gettid? Sorry.

Hurts like hell today. Was already a bit ligament-stretching kind of sore and now I'm hobbling around with a pain in my fanny. The shame of it. I think I actually damaged something. Ow, ow, ow. FFS. 17 working days to go. All the prospective replacements are muppets. Beam me up Scotty. I've had enough.

twelveyeargap · 08/03/2007 09:13

I'd really like to bring in an exercise ball to sit on. I think I'd get laughed off the trading floor though.

ShowOfHands · 08/03/2007 09:44

Morning all.

Sorry to be such a whinge bag yesterday. Nothing's going right atm. We started the year buying a new house, pregnant, DH had a new job to look forward to etc. Now we're facing being homeless, DH is being bullied at work and now accused of taking drugs, FIL cannot get out of bed because of his accident and I've buggered up my shoulder. DH didn't sleep at all last night, I felt like such a witch as I'm exhausted and couldn't sit up with him and this morning he's red-eyed, can't stop shaking (I think he's in actual shock) and keeps asking what he's done to deserve this. I can't work out how his B sample will come back negative if it was taken at the same time as the A sample. Again, I'm biased but he is the kindest, sweetest and most honest man. I cannot bear to see him go through this.

Sorry again, just wallowing.

Charleymouse, tis lovely to see you still pregnant and well! LG&T I heartily concur, you are a lush! And sod birthing balls, I'm bringing a birth pool into work and floating round the library. The bath is my second home. TYG, sympathies on the pain, crossed my legs reading about it! Pebble, this baby's lying exactly the same as yours and to find that out the midwife had to do all the prodding you described. Good ol' Mathilda kicked her as hard as she could though, especially when she grabbed her head, wriggled it from side to side (into my bladder!) and said 'nope not engaged'. April, I want one of those KKs and MrsJB I'm coming to give birth in France so I can tell MIL she's not allowed to come and watch. Honestly, this woman will just turn up if she finds out I'm in labour. She is a force to be reckoned with.

Anyway, at work so should behave like it.

Thanks for all being so kind to a miserable old hag yesterday.

Bensonbluebird · 08/03/2007 09:56

Re Annemia: I'm always a bit annemic I think so I'm thourghly briefed. Don't know if anyone else has said this but it is th tannin in tea that stops your body from absorbing iron, so even decaff is no good. I find that if I drink Rooibosh I can fool myself that it's real tea. My other top tip is nettle tea (load of iron in that. I think floradix is amazing, my iron levels had nearly doubled by the end of my last pregnancy. I think if you take it mixed with some orange juice the vit c helps you to absorb the iron. Don't take too much tough or it makes your teeth go brown!

Bensonbluebird · 08/03/2007 10:16

Just managed to catch up. What a time everyone is having!

Please at least try to go home early today SOH, sounds like you and DH need some quiet time together.

CM - You sound very cheery for a woman who has been in hospital. I would hate it.Is your DH having to take time off work? must be really hard to organise your life when you are stuck in hospital. Do you have lots of books to read?

TYG - Take your ball in, bet they'd all be sooo jealous.

madeindevon · 08/03/2007 11:15

hi. wanted to ask your opinion girls.
had 28 week bloods taken last week before any d injection at hospital.
anyway these result must have been sent to my gp as the receptionist there calls me and says that my haemoglobin levels arent low but they are borderline so gp suggests i take iron tablets and has written prescription.
i not seen doc at all or spoken to her about what other supplements i might be taking (im taking sanatogen pro-natal) and i have a good and varied diet i think.
anyway i got the tablets. and they are 305mg tablets to be taken daily. this sounds like a lot to me? but im not a medical professional... i started taking them yesterday and amd feeling really wierd today...lightheaded, fuzzy head (only taken 2 so far....one yesterday and one today) now this may be a massive coincidence.....but i have felt soooo well the whole way thru. i work full time 10 hrs a day 5 days a week and have felt tip top.....but today i dont...

anyway does anyone take iron tablets? whats the dose? and how do they make you feel?

twelveyeargap · 08/03/2007 11:36

It's definitley 305mg and not 30.5g? Recommended dose for prenatal anaemia is around 30g a day, I believe - less if you're not anaemic, around 18mg. Obv they might give you a boosted dose as you don't aborb it all, but 100x the intake seems awfully high.

I would call and ask the receptionist to check with the doctor before you take any more of them. You only absorb about 20% of what you consume (hence the constipation when you take the high dose tablets), but I just can't imagine why they even make supplements with 305mgm, because 20% of that is still way above your RDA. Spatone is 5mg...

Definitely check if that's the right dose. Sounds odd.

ShowOfHands · 08/03/2007 11:38

Most websites say they will prescribe 30mg or 60mg depending on how anaemic you are. I got the same call from the GP yesterday about being anaemic from my latest blood count and they have made a prescription up. I am healthy and eat well too, but am always anaemic anyway.

I think I'm going to give the tablets a miss, use spatone and eat more greenery and apricots. If you read yesterday's posts you'll see my own discussion/questions about anaemia!

ShowOfHands · 08/03/2007 11:39

How are you feeling TYG?

twelveyeargap · 08/03/2007 11:42

Apart from the pain in my fanjo - just fine!

I wish I could come and give you some moral support. I'm still gutted/ angry for you. I do think it will turn out ok, but it's no consolation at the moment.

Sample B might turn out ok. I expect that there is some margin of error, but if not, then you know that other forces do medical review of these tests. I think cannabis stays in your system for a long time, so they might take bloods to check, plus there is the fact that your DH has been taking pharmaseuticals which could cause a false positve.

I'm sure they're not in the business of going through this whole recruitment process, just to ditch people without due cause. They can't - it wouldn't be just and they're there to bring justice, aren't they?

madeindevon · 08/03/2007 11:52

to TYG
yes just checked the bottle again. def 305mg
hmmmm
maybe i should make a phone call

ShowOfHands · 08/03/2007 11:54

I keep reading such conflicting information. A lot of scientists/scholarly journals say that hair testing is incredibly flawed and they are convinced that envirnomental factors skew results. Other websites say it is highly accurate (but sites advocating the use/selling kits etc). Whatever caused the false positive will still be there in the second sample. I am convinced that it's anti-inflammatories causing it. According to every site I look on they look the same as cannabis molecules and cause false positives fairly frequently. The thing is they only asked DH if he had taken anything in the last 3 months and yes, he took Ibuprofen occasionally for headaches and told them this. However, last year he had a persistent soft tissue injury and took a 6 month course of strong anti-inflammatories and had to have a steroid injection. They did not take note of this as it was over 3 months ago. It cannot be anything else.

I am less sad today, more incensed. It's wrong and unfair and DH is (ridiculously) ashamed to tell anybody in case they jump to the fairly logical but wrong conclusion that he smoked pot. Even his Mum asked if he was 'sure'? Grr!

The second sample is tested by an 'indepent medical practitioner' so I think this might be it, no room for leeway. It's terrifying.

Anyway, are you sure you haven't done yourself a serious mischief?

Pebblemum · 08/03/2007 12:05

Afternoon all

Great to hear from Charleymouse, glad she had a bit of time away from the hospital, must be pretty boring stuck in there all day

Finding out the way the bubs is lying has explained why i keep getting weird pushing feelings in my ribs on my right side. I knew it didnt feel like bubs was kicking now i know its his/her bum pushing into them. Wish it would stop though it is the most uncomfortable feeling ive ever had. The LO didnt protest when the midwife was having a good prod and wiggling the head from side to side, instead it waited until later and booted the hell out of me

I have been having lots of problems with my internet connection lately. I was messing around on here last night when it suddenly went offline and i couldnt get the connection back and it has done it again today, very annoying. Fingers crossed it stays on now though, Dh has had to go to work early and ds2 is off to school so i may sit on my bum for a couple of hours and see what bargains i can find online

ShowOfHands · 08/03/2007 12:07

God, the bum under my ribs? Ouch! It's so weird and I have a foot tapping on the other side at regular intervals. Hope she stays head down though...

Mrsjaffabiffa · 08/03/2007 12:19

Morning all..

Just a quick post as I have sooooooooooooo much to do today, but wanted to check how SOH was? Glad you are not quite so sad today. I will be thinking of you all next week whilst we are away and really hope you have some more positive news by end of next week.

TYG. Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! get checked out, sounds like it could have been your pubic bone? SPD is it, I've not suffered in any of my pg'cys but I'm sure someone will have the in's and out's of it. Try to rest if possible.

AM, how's the Car???

lg&t, what a pain about N this weekend, you should still go though, change of scenery and all that. Oh and I agree, you forget wine. Are you Ok? It's a BIG box!!!!!

CM- lovely to hear from you, think about you all the time. GOOD LUCK. xxx

twelveyeargap · 08/03/2007 12:24

SOH - how long is his hair? Your hair grows approx 0.5inches a month, so if his hair sample was around 3 inches, the strong anti-inflammatories would be on the sample.

I'm afraid I'm not clever enough to find out how long this kind of medications stays in your system, but if you have hte name of it, I'm sure your doctor can tell your DH.

If he's unhelpful, then email me twelveyeargap at googlemail dot com with the name and dosage if you can at least get that from the doctor.

DH reads tons of medical research for his job and is great at finding info like this. He just might be able to find out if they stay in your system for a long time (and his hair was too short for it to be the original dosing); thus they would HAVE to be taken into account.

Oh, and from memory, when I used to get Depo Provera injections - they have steroid in them in order to make the hormones slow release from the muscle. So perhaps the steroid might have increased the length of time that the drug stayed systemic. Same goes for the intra-muscular hay-fever injection you can get. That has steroids in it; again to make it slow release.

twelveyeargap · 08/03/2007 12:28

Oh and the independent medical review - I think it's more than just retesting the sample. I got the impression from that Yorkshire Police thing that they employ a doctor to take a more full medical history as well.

ShowOfHands · 08/03/2007 12:39

I don't know the dosage but I'm pretty certain it was Diclofenac. His hair is a couple of inches long, curly and is only cut about every 6 months...

LupinsBigLump · 08/03/2007 13:03

SOH sorry you are having a rotten time atm, hugs to you

Good to hear CM is doing ok

I have just been for scan and consultant appt - little man has his head under my ribs and his feet way down low - no wonder the kicks are so painful, every thing is fine altho he is a little baby ahhh cute - they did rather worry me in a funny way the consultant said so matter a factly if your waters go before your next appt then please come straight in (derrr what else am I going to do !!) and then the mw said "I am writing the delivery suite number on your notes - we dont usually do it until 34 weeks but I think I will write it on here just in case"" what do they know that I dont?? I also spoke to them about being sterilised at the same time as section - male consultant said "well we will do it but dont recommen it in case in 6 month you change you mind" female midwife said " at 35 with 2 kids - thats plenty for anyone, stick to your guns and make them do it"" I did laugh

Got my glucose tolerance test and 28 wk bloods in the morning

Anyway going to take dd out on her bike as its such a lovely day and the sun is shining
