Sounds horrific Barnes. I had something similar a few weeks back. It was my first experience of vomiting bug/toddler combo. Not my favourite of the parenting milestones!

And that sounds very scary Raspberry. Try and take it a bit easy at work.

So jealous of all those finishing work. It's going to be a long long slog til the 15th May. We are having a night away tomorrow though! Only the second time we've done it since DD was born.

Adventuregame · 24/03/2017 08:03

I just want to add to the breastfeeding conversation that we don't all have the choice. I'm going to bf (if I can) for the first week so baby gets the collosstrum but then I have to go back on my injectable medication which you can't bf on. I might push it to 2 weeks but I have to weigh up my health alongside bf benefits for baby. It's a really hard decision.

Barnes79 · 24/03/2017 08:14

Three hours - no vomit! 🎉👍

1004Rise · 24/03/2017 08:19

@Adventuregame that is hard, but you're doing the best for your baby by switching to formula so you can take your medication. You are the most important person to your baby and you have to be fit and healthy to take care of him, you being there is more important than him being fed on breastmilk.

coxsorangepippin · 24/03/2017 08:20

Absolutely adventuregame and mum's health is necessary for baby's health too

Rustler74 · 24/03/2017 08:23

Oh @Barnes79 I hope you feel better soon and pleased that vomiting has stopped. I'm feeling so lucky that I've not had it once, as I absolutely hate vomiting. I can be really nauseous but I rather push it back down than allow it to come all the way up and I've been pretty close a few times in the last weeks. I really hope I won't get a bug!

@nursebickypegs are you gonna join in fb too? @coxsorangepippin I also have not posted a thing about my pregnancy on fb and I plan to keep it that way. The group is closed and possibly even secret soon. No one of your friends or acquaintances can see our posts or even when you post or comment.

Re TV, I like Gilmore girls a lot. I'm not currently on Netflix but I'll look into it. My main concern is the availability of subtitles as I'm hard of hearing and English not being my first language makes that aspect harder. At the moment I'm thinking BBC and itv iplayer and I have some comedy and drama box sets, too. If they will no longer satisfy me (and baby) on sleepless nights and days, I'll be happy to know if I can watch Netflix with subbies.

Im looking forward to meet some of you later today!

Rustler74 · 24/03/2017 08:25

@Adventuregame fed is best! Don't let anyone tell you to feel odd or guilty. I find it amazing already that you'll be giving the early milk. Have you decided on formula yet?

Tickyboovicki · 24/03/2017 08:45

adventuregame we were so lucky on our NHS courses, they were so fair and kept reassuring everyone fed is best, and that everyone needs to do what works for them and baby!

teainbed · 24/03/2017 09:42

Any amount of breastfeeding is good. Even a day or two or colostrum. We are lucky we have a safe alternative in formula.

teainbed · 24/03/2017 09:46

Enjoy your meet up this evening ladies. Brew

savagehk · 24/03/2017 10:02

adventure you have a valid medical reason for not being able to continue bf. I find it sad that others start out trying but then give up, probably due to lack of support or views from others (like nursebickypegs 's family!). Or views that babies should be sleeping through, and they would if only you gave a little formula, or that your milk 'isn't enough' (this is very rare, about 1% of women) etc.

Adventuregame · 24/03/2017 10:09

Thanks all. The only thing so far that has made me and DH glance at each other was the midwife at antenatal workshop who was so lovely but in the stats she was saying that bf reduces cot death risk by 50%. Then I felt a bit down.
Think I'll try aptimel to start and see how I go - I'm told that not all babies like all formula. Let's hope I have an easy one that'll drink anything !!

Barnes79 · 24/03/2017 10:14

Adventure I'd like to see the research that gave her those figures - 50% sounds extreme. Anyway, did you know that feeding using formula reduces death by starving and malnutrition by 100% 😜

teainbed · 24/03/2017 10:15

Yes I hear the 'not enough milk' thing a lot but I wonder if they mean 'the baby was crying, I was exhausted, my nipples were shredded, I just couldn't do it anymore'. Sad

Brightsmoke · 24/03/2017 10:15

Wow I can't believe how many of you are up so late, half 7 and I'm ready for bed 🙈. Sorry to hear your feeling rough Barnes, hopes it's just a short lived bug!

I needed a cuddle today, fur baby normally isn't allowed on the sofa, but I made an exception. He gave me this look when he got kicked in the head 🙈 I think he's confused 😂

We did our NCT breastfeeding class last night. It wasn't as good as the main NCT bit, and definitely felt a bit more pushy. For example, we were all keen to talk about when and how to add in a bottle feed (either expressed or formula) so that dads could do one feed and she wasn't hugely enthused about that. I think it was partly to do with the personality of the people leading the session.

It was helpful and I did learn things from it. And she was very clear on where we could get support if we needed it.

jennymac31 · 24/03/2017 10:36

Morning ladies

Raspberryinmelon & Barnes - hope you are feeling better.

Nursebicky - I love my audible app and would be happy to share my library with others.

Regarding bf, I'm not really thinking about it and will see what happens when baby arrives. I had a difficult birth (long labour with ventouse, stitches etc) and really struggled with bf when I had dd. Lasted 2 months (during which time dd managed to give me thrush on my boobs) after which point dd's weight had dropped severely and she was already born quite underweight. I literally had a breakdown because I felt a failure for not being able to feed my baby. It wasn't a lack of support for bf experts or anything like that. It just the simple fact that bf didn't work for me and I made the decision to go onto formula in order for my baby to survive as well as to enable me to maintain my sanity.

I know that breast is best but I also know that putting my dd on formula after 2 months has not hindered her development and if I go through the same experience with this time with baby boy then I won't push myself to the brink of another breakdown in order to bf.

jennymac31 · 24/03/2017 10:47

Apologies for the ranty post. Just remember the judgemental comments from other mums and people in general that I didn't try hard enough and gave up too soon. 4 years have passed but it still upsets me when I think about it, hence why I'm just gonna see what happens or works when baby arrives.

Teaspoon74 · 24/03/2017 10:48

Thanks for the NCT feedback MrsJW. Start mine tomoz. Another milestone!!

Bright gorgeous furball!! Totally have doggy envy. Would love to get a border collie or springer whilst I have a chunk if time at home but being convinced i's probably not the greatest idea with 1st child on way/ to cope with.

Rustler you've just reminded me that I need to put some of the scandy noir dramas on my Netflix list. Bitten springs to mind... any other suggestions folks?

Barnes woo hoo!! Brew

Rasperry look after yourself. Glad that last night was ok, eventually. & ta for the FB help. Keep counting the days, and good plan to speak to your boss!

Teaspoon74 · 24/03/2017 10:51

Oopsy- Borgen, not Bitten!

teainbed · 24/03/2017 11:05

jenny Flowers I had ductal thrush with DS I have never felt pain like it, you have my sympathies. It was so much easier feeding second time round though I was able to troubleshoot before things got much worse if that makes sense.

newbieho · 24/03/2017 11:13

Hello All, can I ask who is still planning to come this afternoon for a meetup in Costa in London Victoria between platforms 7 and 8? Me, the bump and blue handbag will be there Smile we usually start around 6pm. Looking forward to meeting you guys!

newbieho · 24/03/2017 11:16

Love the photo @Brightsmoke 🐕

lullaby23 · 24/03/2017 11:18

teaspoon oh was about to look up Bitten assuming it was some Swedish vampire series! Love Borgen, The Bridge, The Killing etc. I'm a sucker for the BBC4 9pm slot so currently watching the second series of Follow the Money. Oh and lots of decent foreign language box sets 4OD under the Walter Presents section.
