I basically watched all five seasons of the Good Wife while feeding DD. I was bereft when I ran out.

Raspberry just say no! I'm being serious. We were actually talking at work today about how becoming a working parent has made me so much better at saying no to unreasonable requests and working out what is actually achievable given the time available. So this would be good practice for you!

teainbed · 23/03/2017 20:27

Personally I wouldn't Adventure unless I was in a high risk group.

Have a read of this. http://www.northerntrust.hscni.net/pdf/GroupBBstreptococcusGBS))infectioninnnewbornbabies.pdf

1004Rise · 23/03/2017 20:38

@nursebickypegs that's not helpful from DM or MIL, I think I'd tend to agree with @Teaspoon74 and be on the "if you don't want to see me bf then don't visit baby" I'm not sure I'd be comfortable right away feeding in front of anyone other than DH (someone needs to check that the latch looks right ) but I will eventually and people will just have to deal with it.

@EsmesBees See if you can line up "The Good Fight" for this time round... it's the spin off from the Good Wife with Diane and Alicia's partner in it whose name I can't remember.... no where near 5 seasons yet but worth looking out for

@Adventuregame glad you're enjoying your leave, we're not jealous at all!!

@RasperryInAMelon SAY NO - yes I'm shouting at you, in the nicest possible way you're or that important that there isn't someone else that can do it. Just say that you know you wouldn't be able to do it to the standard that you want given the time constraints and you're not prepared to work long days in the week before you go on leave. (I know this is easy to say but you need to think about you and bump first) for Dutch courage (sans alcohol obviously)

Welcome @Hisashiburi

Badgerbird · 23/03/2017 20:46

nurseb I'm gonna have to check some of those programmes out. My faves on Netflix have been :
Dexter
Breaking bad
Better call Saul
Orange is the new black
Narcos
Peaky blinders
However just realised I wouldn't recommend watching any of these with babies around!! Not a very nice vibe for breastfeeding.

rabitty I'm quite dark skinned but have light smattering of freckles in summer. Since being preggo they've come out early :)

yellow it was you who thought maybe early labour! So pleased you're ok!

raspberry what a pile of poop!! Sad Crappy thing for them to do. Can you delegate or share the project?

Thanks for thoughts on anaemia.... I know what you mean savage. I stopped taking my spatone incase it skewed the results, prob wasn't good idea! I've bought Solgar gentle iron which I've used in the past so will take both and am on an even more iron rich (veggie) diet. Realise rennies don't help wth iron absorption either so trying to make sure I don't have them near food. May get Drs ones and take one every other day and see what happens..... looking forward to this tiredness lifting a little :)

Teaspoon74 · 23/03/2017 21:01

Rasperry - feel better soon!! And in case you're not sorted by tomoz, there's always the Queen Mother Sports Centre just on the side of Victoria Station. Very easy to pop in for a shower ;). As for the work - what Esmes said! Don't be bounced into an unreasonable deadline!!

Nurse & Badger thanks for the list!! More please!! And for you, if you've not yet seen Quantico or Scandal or Newsroom, they're all pretty good. Thinking I might need to try and watch Homeland and 24 as have never seen either. And only seen s1 of breaking bad! And not even gone near game of thrones- worth it??
Oh, and a pal recommends Oz.

;)

Barnes79 · 23/03/2017 21:04

Not having a great evening - lots of backache (which is brand new) and one episode of vomiting (so far...) Sad

nursebickypegs · 23/03/2017 21:06

@Adventuregame @teainbed I have a friend who is asking me endlessly if I've had this test yet. I need to look into it.

@Badgerbird I LOVE ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK! The new season starts in June, so I can't wait to binge in a day!

@Teaspoon74 heard such amazing things about the Newsroom, isn't it by Aaron Sorkin? Love his other work.

@1004Rise it's not helpful in the slightest, and MIL is a HEALTH VISITOR!!! I'm going to grab the books teaspoon recommended, and maybe pop along to a BF group I found in Nottingham today to ask questions. More I think about it, the more I want to BF. I was bottle feed and such a sickly kid, coughs & colds, ear infections...

peasandquiet · 23/03/2017 21:13

Rasberry, I second what esmes said about once you are a working parent you have to stick to time constraints usually due to childcare, there have been days since I went back where the shit has just been hitting the fan and I had no choice but to leave, completely not in my nature and not what I would have done pre baby but your little one comes first. It's completely unreasonable to expect that much of a heavily pregnant person, who's got one week left and is trying to do a decent handover.

The LLL book is a good one, even with the off putting title. I have to say with the feeding in public thing I felt way more judged for bottle feeding in public than if I had been able to BF my son. First timers be prepared for these two questions;

Is she/he good?
Are you feeding him/her yourself?

You will be asked these two questions by everyone you've ever met and complete strangers all the bloody time!!

There is already a FB group.... I'm pretty sure Rustler knows how to add someone??

Just been to see beauty and the beast and it was wonderful. A few hours me time has really cheered me up.

Teaspoon74 · 23/03/2017 21:15

Barnes* poor you! Haven't been able to shake the vom so huge sympathy!!!

Nurse yes!!! 3 series and great acting. As an ex journo and a more recent politico the issues they cover are well handled too (tiny bit overdo now and again, but that's Sorkkn!!). If you like US stuff, assume you've seen The West Wing and the remade House of Cards??

Barnes79 · 23/03/2017 21:15

Spoke too soon 🤢

Rustler74 · 23/03/2017 21:22

Yes @RasperryInAMelon it's quite confusing as it turns out I will attend a growth scan at 9.10 in one hospital then see the midwife at 12.00 in another hospital. Not too pleased... will call again tomorrow to see if I can see the midwife earlier as otherwise it's too long in between and I have to go to work that day. Fact is that I'd swapped the original appointment for growth scan at 11.30 for the more convenient 9.10 with the possibility to see the doctor's team after that in the same hospital. I hope I'm calmer tomorrow when the specialist midwife calls back so I can ask to just be in one hospital instead of travelling between the two!
Re the job Raspberry I think you should say no. It's really unfair of them to give you that project!

Rustler74 · 23/03/2017 21:24

Message me or Savage if you want to be added to fb group, I think Raspberry might know too?

EsmesBees · 23/03/2017 21:26

Rise I had no idea there was a Good Wife spin off! Thank you.

Yes peas those two questions plus 'how is she sleeping?' complete with sympathetic head tilt.

coxsorangepippin · 23/03/2017 21:35

We can also stay in touch on here - just need a thread in postnatal clubs instead of antenatal clubs!

yellowismyfavourite · 23/03/2017 21:36

esme up to season 7 of the good wife is on Netflix now. I love it so will definitely look for the spin off. And the newsroom... love Aaron Sorkin the west wing is one of my favourites.
barnes look after yourself and hope you feel better
raspberry that seems a little harsh of them when you are so close to going. I hope you can get it sorted

coxsorangepippin · 23/03/2017 21:36

I don't know about you guys but I have lots of extended family / slightly distant friends on fb and don't much want them to have posts from me about nappies appearing in their timeline!

yellowismyfavourite · 23/03/2017 21:37

Thanks badger and raspberry false alarm but am definitely doing my hospital bag this weekend!

Teaspoon74 · 23/03/2017 21:45

Re FB group - Rasperry, you've got mail!

Barnes hugs!!

Rustler hope you get it sorted. Who knew how much time this whole process takes with appointments and scans etc. Insane!!

Yellow v glad re false alarm! Feels like something we want to be able to plan for. My biggest dread is going into labour before I'm prepped for bubs!!

nursebickypegs · 23/03/2017 21:53

@Teaspoon74 House of Cards is also on my list, as I am a HUGE Kevin Spacey fan and I just love him. Loved the West Wing. Have you seen Studio 60 in the sunset strip? It's one season and it's GREAT!

@peasandquiet I'm so naturally sarcastic I'm just going to be rude to some old granny who is just being nosey and asking those questions. I think the breast/bottle thing is so taboo, I feel like I can't raise it with my friends. I did a FB status and I won't do that again!

Keep meaning to watch the Good Wife as I loved the actress in ER. She was one nursing idol when I was a kid!

Badgerbird · 23/03/2017 22:00

Oh no barnes SadAngry Let's hope it's fast and furious like my vom bug was! Horrid puking with a bad back! X

Teaspoon74 · 23/03/2017 22:01

Nurse is studio 60 the one which had Josh from West Wing in it? Was reluctant to watch coz I heard it was good and hot canned mid storyline, but will give it a go if you recommend.

House of cards is brill, but dark.

nursebickypegs · 23/03/2017 22:02

@Teaspoon74 yes! It's just one season and it ends in the middle of a story, but it's (obviously) well written.

mrspage1985 · 23/03/2017 22:06

Adventure I'm booked in to a clinic for the strep b test, wasn't much more than the at home ones

stationaryace · 23/03/2017 22:12

cox posts won't appear on your timeline or their feeds when you post in a private group, so you won't spam them with all the baby stuff. Unless you post a load to your own wall Wink Pretty much all the groups I'm in on facebook are closed/private so no comments about it being all babies/sewing groups/fabric sales/reusuable nappies etc from my sister.

You can watch anything you like on tv for easily the first three months, probably up to 6 months and your kid starts noticing the tv. I got through so many good box sets last time, including The Walking Dead, it was great. This time round there will be a toddler so if the tv does go on then she will demand her shows Hmm I think I'll have to make friends with the radio on low.
