Rustler you live in a lovely part of Hertfordshire!! Sorry to hear you've had stressful day, sounds confusing!!?

So I'm anaemic. I know a few of us on here are. My level was 10.5. Who's been taking the iron from Drs and how has it effected them? Black poos, constipated, tummy aches?? I'm scared to take them so have been using other iron supplements.....

Hi hisa!!

Glad mat leave is going well asvebture :)

nursebickypegs · 23/03/2017 16:49

@PeachIcedT that sounds reassuring! DH bought some some vest tops today which I can wear with cardigans, so I can cover up if I want too. We had a chat about BF and he wants to bottle feed him if he can, but he understands that the first few weeks are important.

@teainbed @1004Rise I have lists on Netflix ready and waiting for sofa days! DH has 4 weeks off work so he can make me lunch and tea what's the big book that you mentioned tea?

Bless you @Rustler74! You're allowed a breakdown and I'm pleased your midwife supported you and listened!

My SPD pain is awful today; I "opened my legs" too far while getting out the shower and now it feels like I have been kicked!!! Off to bed I go...

newbieho · 23/03/2017 16:51

Hey @Hisashiburi 🙋

@Badgerbird Iron tablets brought my life back to normal. No side effects and I felt so much better

yellowismyfavourite · 23/03/2017 16:53

Nurse15 that sounds scary... hope you are feeling ok today

Thanks everyone for your comments about the contractions/BH. I did read them earlier but only just got chance to reply. Had my 34w appointment today and mw said to call hospital if it happens again tonight. Have had a few more during the day and feeling strangely full and tight. Back for another growth scan next week anyway as fundal measurement is still being weird! Baby is 3/5 engaged which could be why I look like I have slow growth though...

raspberry hope your day got better... cold showers are horrible.
Welcome hisa

savagehk · 23/03/2017 17:01

I'm sceptical about the anaemia thing. Last iron was 10.7, which is a bit low, but not 'too' low. I have no other side effects. I'm taking spatone in the mornings, but not the tablets (which from last pregnancy I can confirm do have .... effects).

I think anaemia is to be expected during pregnancy. Obviously if you have other side effects or if the iron level is too low, then yes, some intervention is needed. I note the side effects include pre-term delivery and small babies. Take that, DS (9lb4 and 2 weeks late).

PeachIcedT · 23/03/2017 17:03

Welcome @Hisashiburi! Glad you are enjoying mat leave @Adventuregame.

@Badgerbird I've been taking them for just over 2 weeks, my reading was the same as yours. The only side effect is the one to be expected - black stools. Hasn't altered but bowel movements whatsoever but it can in some people. What other supplements have you been using instead?

@nursebickypegs Yes it was so simple, she tucked the muslin into her bra straps and voila! A very happy fed baby. Ouch to the SPD, I nearly forgot today I can't raise my leg up to shave it as easily as I used to, it's all too easy to aggravate SPD :(

nursebickypegs · 23/03/2017 17:35

@newbieho @Badgerbird I'm on iron tablets, 3 times a day and I'm having a B12 next week. My HB was 8. I've been saying to everyone how drained I was for weeks! The iron is slowly helping, but I'm really tired out easily. Tomorrow we are going shopping/collect the nursing chair and I am dreading it already because of how slow and tired I get.

@PeachIcedT it's soooo painful and to be crass, it's right on the pubic bone. I've had to take a codiene and lie down, and I've got a pillow in between my legs.

Weird question, anyone else notice their skin has totally changed during pregnancy? I'm quite pale with some freckles, and I'm now COVERED in them on my face. Cheeks, nose, lips... I'm like a dot to dot.

astormgivenflesh · 23/03/2017 17:43

Had a weird thing at the Drs yesterday; called up to ask for a Mat B1 form and receptionist said something had popped up on my file and I needed to come in straight away. I asked what and she said I was low in iron and needed a prescription and to get checked by dr.

Off I waddle down to surgery but dr has no clue!? Says nothing is showing up at all about iron and that my white blood cells are a bit low indicating a recent infection but that's it?! Dr then checked me, says baby was stretched across me and needed to turn in the next few weeks and then got on the phone to midwives saying I wasn't being seen enough and that they had to call me.

All very odd!

nursebickypegs · 23/03/2017 17:50

@astormgivenflesh that's what happened to me weirdly; kept being called in for low iron, midwife would say it was fine, nothing prescribed. My
OBGYN spotted I was low. Weird. I hope your baby turns!

astormgivenflesh · 23/03/2017 17:55

@nursebickypegs it's so strange! Receptionist had me quite worried as she said I MUST go in right away but then dr had no clue what she was on about so I just left feeling very confused!

Rabbitykins55 · 23/03/2017 18:04

For ladies looking for a swimming costume I have a maternity size 12 one if anyone wants it? I'm tall and it's too short in the body for me. PM me your address and I'll post over the weekend. Smile

nursebickypegs · 23/03/2017 18:05

@astormgivenflesh i would call the GP and ask them to check again; we use a system at work called Systm1 and sometimes blood results appear in different places. Bless you. Chuffing receptionists!

Rabbitykins55 · 23/03/2017 18:18

@nursebickypegs my skin has got more freckly too. It does have a proper name but I'd be lying if I said I could remember what it is!

Brightsmoke · 23/03/2017 18:24

Rabbity, what a kind offer. I'm size 12 and would love to take you up on it. How tall are you?

I have been digging through my wedding box, and have mr & mrs mugs that I didn't know we had! Would you like them Sanity? Or anyone else for that matter?

Rabbitykins55 · 23/03/2017 18:28

@Brightsmoke I'm about 6ft! It's got lots of bump room but not built for someone with my long body! It's nothing fancy, just a new look one. Smile

teainbed · 23/03/2017 18:30

It's chloasma or melasma. The freckles.

Teaspoon74 · 23/03/2017 19:07

Hey Storm - probably sthg to get the practice to pursue. You don't want a situation where the receptionist (who may be new?) starts trying to interpret results. Could be dangerous!

Savage side effects or benefits?!? #smallheadpreferredplease!

Nurse what's on your Netflix list? I don't have and rarely get to watch much tv so want to od on boxsets ;). And how comfortable are you talking to your DM about the bf thing? Sounds really unfair of her to lay that on you. Surely the answer is you'll do what you need to and if she doesn't want to see it, maybe she shouldn't spend time with bubs (too harsh??).

Hiya Hisash. Welcome! Wouldn't say I'm feeling desperately healthy tbh, but I am a bit in wonder at what is gong on inside me, so not all bad! Hmm

What massive book Tea?!?

Blueberry great news! I also had a ME appt that I didn't cry at!!! Thought that meant I was getting on top of these bloody hormones until I saw a group of police (hospital is St Thomas', opposite Parliament) and whilst I really wanted to just say thanks for the work that they do, I started tearing up and getting emissions and just couldn't. Grrrr. Pregnancy tears!

Rasperry cold shower sucks! And that sounds like an awful start to yesteday!! Hope today was better. No swimming pool you can slip into to use the showers? Or, though may be a bit of a trek, you're welcome to pop round here if SE18 isn't too too far??

Rustler omg that fox stuff is so lovely!! Where are you getting them from??

Rise & Newbie I'm struggling with socks too - given up on tights though. Leggings are my friend!!
*
Esmes* I had a similar moment earlier where I started to think about the (still scary but) nice bits to come as a first time mum. Humbling to think about the responsibility we're taking on for a whole new person. All those firsts yet to come are overwhelming and tantalising at the same time. Terrified but starting to feel excited - which is a helluva way from the ambivalence I had at the beginning (when we found out that despot 2 forms of contraceptive and a morning after pill our little fighter had decided she was going to be joining us anyway!!).

Nurse15 jeez - glad you're ok. Don't need that stress at the best of times let alone when you're heavily pregnant!!!

Redblu are work being sympathetic? If you're signed off sick for medical reasons then it has to be because it's necessary. Just don't overdo it by doing other stuff!!

And I totally agree with Rustler, Rise, Esmes, Savage & anyone else who said we need to keep in touch post births. I can't say what a godsend this group has been for advice and support!!

EsmesBees · 23/03/2017 19:28

If we are planning to keep in touch via Facebook then someone is going to have to teach me how to use it. I only go on there to buy Scandinavian baby clothes.

I'd also recommend the LLL book on breastfeeding. Don't be put off by the name, it's actually a very down to earth guide.

nursebickypegs · 23/03/2017 19:31

@Teaspoon74 nope I entirely agree. I said that I can't control when he wants feeding and I'm not hiding away! She keeps mentioning that I was bottle fed and so settled unlike my cousin who was BF. I think she's more concerned that she won't get to have him to babysit often when he's tiny! MIL says similar, so I feel like I have no "female" support other than you guys!

Thank you for the books! I am ordering now.

Teaspoon74 · 23/03/2017 19:33

We've got your back Nurse!!

And is there a FB group already or do we need to set one up??

RasperryInAMelon · 23/03/2017 19:36

AAAARRRGGGHHH!

I'm ready to curl up and die... been handed a fooking massive project which needs to be submitted by next Friday... my last day at work and will likely need me to work a least 12 hour days until then to get it finished.

Shower won't be sorted till tomorrow, so another cold shower in the morning and to top it all off... I think I'm coming down with something and can hardly swallow.

Will try my best to make tomorrow's meet up at Victoria. Remind me - who else is coming?

OP posts:
nursebickypegs · 23/03/2017 19:39

@Teaspoon74 I'll check Netflix now!

nursebickypegs · 23/03/2017 19:52

@RasperryInAMelon nooo!! That's bloody awful!!! Your last day!

@Teaspoon74 & everyone else;

So on Netflix I've got
The OA
Arrested Development (my favourite show of all time so I rewatch loads)
Archer
Making of a Murderer
How to get away with Murder
Bates Motel
Bojack Horseman
Brooklyn 99
Friday Night Lights

And Amazon Prime
Parks and Recreation (actually this is my favourite TV show ever)
Sneaky Pete
Greys Anatomy (only seen up to season 4... I think)
Nurse Jackie

I don't watch a lot of TV, but when I do I BINGE! I'm trying to get hold of ER dvds as I'm proper nostalgic for that time when I thought being a nurse would be exciting and sexy Hmm some of these shows I have seen before, so it's for "comfort" sakes, esp Arrested Development which I watched when my Nana died.

RasperryInAMelon · 23/03/2017 20:00

Oopsy... cross posted without reading other messages! 🙊

@Hisashiburi welcome! 👋🏻

@Rustler74 sounds like a very confusing appointment - hope everything is sorted now though!

@PeachIcedT I'm looking forward to getting started with these NCT classes to find out more about BF and getting comfortable with it.

@Adventuregame hope you're enjoying being on leave? Sounds like you've got things under control there!

@yellowismyfavourite make sure you look after yourself lovely!

@nursebickypegs I'm a freckle face anyway, but a colleague mentioned the other week I look like I've got more. I hadn't really noticed tbh...

@Teaspoon74 that's really kind of you, should be sorted by tomorrow though! Thanks ☺

@1004Rise @newbieho @Teaspoon74 I've decided I'm living in slippers and sweatpants a week on Monday!

@Teaspoon74 there is a FB group set up! PM me and I can add you!

Re Boxset Binging... I'm a Now TV person... any recommendations there?

@nursebickypegs you're telling me! Woke up at 5.45 this morning - just on a train home now and back in at 8 tomorrow!
