I am putting " no ward" on my book too. I'm really sensitive to noises and crowds, I don't think I could cope, I'd rather discharge myself

LuciBee231015 · 23/03/2017 16:16

I'll be lucky if there's a vending machine in my hospital 😂

glitterglitters · 23/03/2017 16:18

It sounds incredibly snobby but I've heard some bad stories about the post natal ward at my local hospital. It's in the middle of a very deprived area of my city and someone I know woke up to find the partner of someone else on the ward trying to go through her handbag, the post natal ward staff haven't had the greatest of write ups from people I know. One friend was induced and they sent her dp home, she progressed very quickly and they kept telling her no it was too soon etc and her dp missed their baby being born.

These are all very extreme cases and apparently they'll let dps stay now during inductions (though with a dc to think of it in the first instance it's probably not ideal) but most people I know go to the next county for the big hospital it's not that well regarded. This is despite having an amazing neo-natal unit!

Notyetthere · 23/03/2017 16:34

Glitter no need to feel bad about your choices as to where you give birth. It is a moment when a woman feels most vulnerable therefore one needs to do and go wherever they feel most comfortable.

My hospital has recently been rebuilt where it has individual rooms so even post natally, you have your own room and bathroom. SIL gave it rave reviews and she feels that took great care of her last year.

OP posts:
thumbsupforthesixbillion · 23/03/2017 16:37

Now I need to find out if paying for room rather than a ward is an option, I doubt it as I think I'm in the 'lucky if we have a vending machine' category of hospitals but it's worth looking in to!

glitterglitters · 23/03/2017 16:41

Thanks @Notyetthere I had such a brilliant experiencing dd1, whole suite to myself, two midwives, radio, birthing pool and then my own space and bathroom afterwards with dh able to stay. I really hope I can have a similar experience with number 2 ☺️

ButterflyFree · 23/03/2017 17:14

Not snobby or bad at all @glitterglitters - I'm exactly the same. There's absolutely no way I would agree to be on a ward because I simply wouldn't be able to bear the lack of privacy/personal space. As @Notyetthere said, giving birth will be one of our most vulnerable experiences, and we are all entitled to do whatever we can to make the environment in which we do it as comfortable as possible.

glitterglitters · 23/03/2017 17:18

Thanks ladies. Also just in case, nobody actually gives birth on the ward itself in case anybody is freaking out!

Kitsandkids · 23/03/2017 18:33

I had a midwife appointment today and heard the heartbeat which was nice. It sounded like a load of galloping horses! Ha ha!

natienka · 23/03/2017 20:16

Sigh... apparently a private room at UCLH is something like £650! And not an amazing one, just private. (need to verify this) What the hell... I think it will be a 'no postnatal ward for me pleaaaaaseeeee' as well, though needs must.

On a positive note, had a scan this morning (23 weeks, we're under FMU care), everything is perfect, no need for concern in this pregnancy but for reassurance, another scan booked in 6 weeks so we'll be getting to see Bubba a couple more times at least. Also got my Mat B1 form so that's sorted.

Then went to a lovely pregnancy yoga class - two students only, so great level of attention. But damn, it was tough! I do yoga with some youtube videos and it's really gentle for pregnancy, but this one was a proper workout ;) It was so lovely for the relaxation in the end, when I finally lay down he was moving around SO much! Great feeling.

And now packing... off to our babymoon on Saturday - Gran Canaria here we come! London is FREEZING.

Wishing all you ladies a lovely evening :)

danigrace · 23/03/2017 22:31

I'm hoping to not do hospital at all, we're booked in for a home birth but via the nhs so I just hope they come! Apparently they are quite good where we live so fingers crossed, or DP may end up having an experience he wasn't prepared for Grin

Pregnancy pilates here this evening, also a proper workout! I'm sure my arm and thigh muscles are getting better than they were pre-preg, or the opposite and that's why I 'feel the burn' more lol.

natienka · 24/03/2017 08:21

Sigh again... (sorry need to vent) 23w + 5 and throwing up in the car??! Whyy? I just had a banana? In a truly ninja style I captured everything in two sandwich bags, thank goodness, so no cleaning, but not a fun thing to do on a motorway...

natienka · 24/03/2017 08:25

On a funny note (or..) I told a colleague, mum of two, I'm going to Gran Canaria for a week. Teary eyed, she said 'Enjoy it while you can', then a long pause, then she went.

Oooookay then ;) motherhood will be fun! Grin

LuciBee231015 · 24/03/2017 09:05

natienka that does not sound like fun at all! Hope you feel better, fingers crossed it's a one off!

27 weeks today over here! Been getting more tired this week and a real stuffy nose. Apart from that, lots of movement and loving it. I have my 28 week blood test on Monday and then midwife Friday to look at the results and have the usual check up, I'll actually be dead on 28 weeks at that appointment.

Seahawk80 · 24/03/2017 10:53

@ButterflyFree both DH and I have been stitched up at chelsea and Westminster as it used to be our local hospital and we are both v accident prone! It's a really nice hospital and my friend had both her babies there on the NHS and loved it so the private wing should be amazing!

I'm def on the discharge myself rather than linger on a ward team. Made me think of poor DH when he had an accident and had to have an operation in Thailand (as I said accident prone) he had barely come round and I was shoving food under his nose saying eat this and hopefully we can go back to the hotel tonight! My sister has had over 50 operations and she is the queen of getting out of hospital as soon as possible!

I am slightly leaning towards a home birth as I can as I hate hospitals so much but my main worry is that our flat isn't very well soundproofed and the neighbours could hear everything - might keep me from swearing too much and make for a calmer environment though!

glitterglitters · 24/03/2017 10:55

@Seahawk80 lol that was my logic too. I'd prefer a home birth but my neighbour is a saint, and even though it turns out I'm not a screamer, I don't think I could do that to him whilst he's watching The One Show 😂

natienka · 24/03/2017 11:30

Haha yeah I wondered that too about home birth, I definitely hear my neighbours kids all the time ... would be a good payback haha!

Seahawk80 · 24/03/2017 12:20

Ha ha @natienka @glitterglitters - it would be payback for hearing their kids run up and down but I think that will happen anyway when the baby is born! Mine had a massive row last night, I was torn between waking up properly and listening or going back to sleep, I must have gone back to sleep but I remember hearing her say "I'm not the one who's done something wrong" sounded like a good one!

glitterglitters · 24/03/2017 13:41

Wahhhh. I was feeling all smug that despite everything I hadn't been suffering with back or hip pain and put it down to not being stuck at a desk anymore but just walked dd to the park and my hip is grinding. Nooooo 😭😭😭

Notyetthere · 24/03/2017 14:44

Like you Glitter I am in 'feel sorry for myself' mode. I am coughing constantly now. Started off with a tickly throat a few days ago and I assumed it was a cold coming on but now I think it is turning into a nasty dry cough. Any remedies out there that might help? I miss OTC drugs!

OP posts:
glitterglitters · 24/03/2017 14:47

I think there's a honey and lemon glycerin from boots you can take. It just appeared on my Facebook today from when I was pregnant and full of cold two years ago. I'll get a pic

glitterglitters · 24/03/2017 14:48

Due July 2017 #4 …… Well into 2nd Trimester! 20 Week Scans and Bumps Galore
Notyetthere · 24/03/2017 15:41

Glitter you are a star! There is a boots next door to my office so I will pop in now. Thank you.

OP posts:
glitterglitters · 24/03/2017 15:50

No problem. Having a cold when you're pregnant is horrible. ❤Flowers

CatRash · 24/03/2017 15:59

@DrewOB0 Great bargain on the SnuzPod - what colour did you go for? We've gone for a SnuzPod too and found fitted, waterproof mattress protectors on Amazon for a fraction of the price of the branded ones.

Sorry to hear about the cough Not - just in time for the weekend too :(
