dani meant to tag you as well - indeed I'm keen for the experience to be great for both of us, and that's why I'm so unclear either way - because I can totally see it as another bonding experience just for the two of us if everything goes perfect; but it may not, and if it gets stressful or is really long, I'm hoping then the doula would take over the more tedious parts of watching my birth plan, pain relief etc and hubby could be the hero responsible for kisses and cuddles :)

TinklingTheIvories · 17/03/2017 20:52

We 'may' have brought a pushchair/pram today

Found a bugaboo chameleon with two sets of covers, red and sand. Only £100. Bargain.

It's official, we've started buying baby things!!

Notyetthere · 17/03/2017 21:17

Butter hope all goes well with your SIL. It is a worrying prospect but medicine has improved so much and that baby (with lots of intervention and care) will grow strong. Fingers crossed.

As for baby shower, I am not having one. I am not used to them and part of me can't be bothered. My 2 closest friends live miles away and I would want to have them there if I was to have one. For my work colleague, we all went out for a nice lunch. I found that quite nice and fuss free. I like the idea of a BBQ after the birth though. That way attention is on baby rather than me.

Rhodes lol definitely be careful with the wallet. Definitely get mum to bring her credit card. Just back and £60 lighter. They have lots Aden & annais large muslin pack of 4 for £20. Lots of sleeping bags and a few one off looking sleep and body suits. I picked up a few sleep and bodysuits in various sizes and that was meant to be it but as I walked to the tills I saw a laundry basket with a picture of an owl print on it that matches the cotbed. I had to get it. It's an impulse buy at £9.99 but I felt like it was meant to be.

danigrace · 17/03/2017 22:44

@notyetthere did you make any purchases? Grin

@Spindelina studies done at yale with ultrasound amongst other things concerned us a little, & whilst more research needs to be done on the topic we had a long chat and decided that we wouldn't act on any 'bad' news received anyway, we would still carry to term. So as there is no improvement in prognosis to knowing issues earlier & the only benefit is being mentally prepared we decided for us it wasn't worth doing. But that's obviously a very personal descision and one I understand absolutely isn't right for everyone. Obviously the ear trumpet doesn't use ultrasound at all which is why it doesn't bother us.

@Lallypopstick baby-cue haha, love it!!

@natienka maybe you could 'interview' a few doulas to find the best fit for you both?

Spindelina · 18/03/2017 06:54

danigrace thanks for explaining that. If it's the ultrasound itself that concerns you (rather than just the non-benefit of possibly finding out things you have no intention of acting on), then that makes sense.

CatRash · 18/03/2017 07:08

It went well thank you Dani. Baby was much more cooperative and she got the measurements easily. She pointed out baby licking his/her lips too - wonder if he/she could taste the strawberries and grapes I'd eaten in the fluid??

She gave me 4x free photos too because i had to come back for such a quick scan. Think she was glad to have such a quick, easy scan on a Friday afternoon!

natienka · 18/03/2017 07:39

@dani, that's really interesting. Could the benefits of knowing what's wrong be that you can act while in pregnancy? Not to terminate (which I also didn't want to do) but e.g. if my son had the same condition my first son did, we could arrange for e.g. blood transfusions in utero (sounds very sci fi, but to be honest the process we went through to get this child is more sci fi than any sci fi book I read and I read them lots! ;) ). That said I think my attitude is definitely tainted by the loss of the baby; I needed to know everything that happened that's why it took so long but at least we found a cause and now are awaiting a healthy bubba, yay :)

About to head off to an NCT Nearly New sale in an hour. I'm taking a huge suitcase (the 20kg checked luggage type). Pray for me.

Notyetthere · 18/03/2017 08:16

Dani yes. £60 worth of stuff. Laundry bag, growsuits and sleep suits. A couple of cute dresses in the bigger sizes 3-6months and 6-9months.

OP posts:
Notyetthere · 18/03/2017 08:37

Nat enjoy the nearly new sale. I have just come back from the Next Sales. head hangs in shame. I will pray for you!

Here is my hoard. This week has been a write off with regards to not spending anymore on baby clothes. Looks like baby is sorted for clothes for the 1st 6-9 months. We were careful to pick up items according to the seasons to ensure that we didn't end up with a pram suit for 0-3months when it will be summer.

nat seeing a couple of Douglas with dh might help with your decision. Interview sort of thing seems like a good idea. Having a doula that can take care of the midwife side of stuff whike dh can just concentrate on you might be nice.

danigrace · 18/03/2017 09:53

@Catrash yay for the successful scan and free pictures!!

@natienka so sorry to hear of your loss and so happy/relieved for you that all is well with this bubba

Seahawk80 · 18/03/2017 09:56

Jealous of everyone's shopping! I promised DH I'd not buy anything this month as we have to pay the remainder of the balance of the credit card we put our new bathroom on last year. Still my mum has bought me lots so looking forward to getting that!

There is a nearly new sale near us next weekend but I'm working. Am sending DH - will be interesting to see what he comes back with! He's gone to see Everton play today (he has lived in London all his life and his family are from London but for some random reason he chose to support Everton) am hoping he doesn't visit the gift shop 😂

danigrace · 18/03/2017 11:02

Haha @Seahawk80, if he comes back with a 50 odd quid little football kit after you promising not to spend... Lol

I won a subscription to Project B which was a nice surprise! (for posting a bump phito on their pinned post, did it in Jan and forgot all about it!). This is the box I was sent yesterday, & I'll get another different one in months 7, 8, & 9 too Grin Already enjoyed the porridge, a fruit bag, & some of the dark fruit & nut choc and plan to try out the deep conditioner and nail polish this afternoon! Smile

Dani thst looks lush. What a nice little surprise. Enjoy your hawl.

Sea lol about dh going into the gift shop! I have enjoyed watching dh getting carried away with baby clothes. I mentioned to him on Wednesday that Lidl had a baby event on and he popped into the one in town on his to work on Thursday and picked up several items. He misunderstood my suggestions and picked up an item of everything in the event. I think its a bit early to have a sippy cup or weaning food storage pots. Lol. £30 in Lidl including a small top up food shopping.

rhodes2015 · 18/03/2017 11:28

seahawk similar here...we live in North Staffordshire but DH chose to support arsenal Hmm he hasn't been to too many games this season though.
I'm having a month off buying next month! My mum has bought lots too, she doesn't drive and only really has a Sainsbury's in walking distance so we are currently the very proud owners of EVERYTHING for a baby girl from Sainsbury's Grin they have some gorgeous baby clothes!
not ooh some lovely bits there, I did the next sale online on Thursday but my bits haven't arrived yet.

rhodes2015 · 18/03/2017 11:31

not lol at the sippy cup, my DH does the same, pointing out high chairs etc.... we haven't bought the car seat to bring baby home from hospital yet!

Seahawk80 · 18/03/2017 11:41

Ha ha @rhodes2015 - funnily enough Arsenal is my choice for the baby to support - not quite our local team but near us and near where we will probably end up. I've put my foot down and said it is not being dragged up to Liverpool - plus it would be expensive!

@danigrace he will in a lot of trouble if he does!

@Notyetthere also laughing at the sippy cup! I'm planning not to give DH any instructions for the nearly new sale, will be fun to see what he buys and as it will be cheap it can't go too wrong!

natienka · 18/03/2017 12:06

Well that was... Disappointing Hmm not much at the NCT sale. Of coursethe reason might have been that we have literally everything we need, so my plan was to get really cool clothes, a sling, some cheeky wipes, that sort of thing. But only bought 3 clothes and a soft book! To an extent I'm glad as i packed the bag full but then went through everything before paying and put most stuff back as either it wasn't the quality i wanted or not exactly what i was after.

But i got a nice goody bag with lots of samples and i had cake :) Cake

Best news of all: hubby met me at the sale, suitcase and all, all the way from Boston after a week away! Was so chuffed to see him! Getting out of there with two suitcases must have looked quite funny Grin

Also I bought two pieces of cake (you know, just in case), ate one and the other one fell on the street Confused but my unphased husband picked it up and ate it. Off the street, not even the pavement; the crossing.

I guess i can now rest assured he won't be the type of father to fuss over sterilising everything... BlushBlushBlush

Notyetthere · 18/03/2017 12:12

What was brilliant to watch was he picked up a dangaree, put several little girly tops to wear underneath to ensure he got it just right. Grin.

Notyetthere · 18/03/2017 12:29

Nat that made me laugh. 2 suitcases and cake. I prayed for you, that's why you found nothing to buyWink to save your purse.

Does anyone have a linea negra yet? I don't even have a hint of one. Maybe I won't get one. Am not worried, just curious!

ButterflyFree · 18/03/2017 20:36

Nope no hint of a linea negra at all for me either @Seahawk80 - some get them, some don't!

What about belly buttons as well - has anyone's popped out yet? DH keeps teasing me and saying mine will look funny when (if) it does, but I don't think it will pop out actually.

bluebird1235 · 18/03/2017 20:42

Mine is very close to popping out.... it's gone triangular! Confused

Bawbles · 18/03/2017 20:53

seahawk no linea negra here - I didn't get one last time nor did my belly button pop out.

butterfly
The top of my belly button is increadibly stretched/taut this time - I keep touching it as it feels so odd!

Seahawk80 · 18/03/2017 21:14

My belly button feels weird too, it looked a bit different 2 weeks ago and now it feels a bit sore and soft. Maybe it's getting ready to pop!

My sister never got a linea negra either so think I won't get one. Am sure the sun on holiday would have bought it out.
